Mike's Blog Round Up

Willkommen! Bienvenue! Welcome! Here at the C&L Cabaret it's time for the Blog Roundup Revue! No use in sitting alone in your room by the PC -- in here, life is beautiful! Let your Master of Ceremonies, Steven at Die Meinung Muhle, show you. And we're obliging -- if you don't like the songs of Kander and Ebb, you can try this little ditty that's perfect for the War On Terror.

Black waters run deep, and Blackwater's waters run very deep and smelly indeed . Read all about it while this jolly song runs through your head.

Pretty soon it will be time to set ourt clocks back, but maybe instead we should set the Democratic Party leadership forward. And while we're at it, upgrade the party frontrunner to a more appealing model and engage in some serious class warfare .

It is so hot here at the C&L Cabaret that we constantly have to battle to keep the women from taking off all of their clothes. So stick around. Today, we may lose the battle -- whoops!

Nice documentary you have there, Mr. Burns, but we need a lot more.

HOLY CRAP: In our WIngerweek Roundup we find that the Big Guy In The Sky doesn't put out the way he used to for the GOP. And the Bible-bangers of this lovely little town are on their way to learning that anti-gay bigotry carries a hefty price tag .

BOOK NOOK: Science fiction master Norman Spinrad (Bug Jack Barron, The Iron Dream) has written a near-future novel about an Islamist terrorist and is having a spot of trouble finding a publisher. He's posted the first third of the novel online and gone on YouTube to explain his take on 9/11 and the War On Terra. And in more multimedia fund, here's Todd Gitlin talking about his new book, The Bulldozer and the Big Tent .

Well, that's all for this week, mein Herrs and Heroines. It's been a groove and a gas and I thank Mike for the opportunity to make you all rue the day you shelled out for DSL. The secret password and the keys to the cabaret are being turned over to Jamie for the coming week.

So, in closing, I'd like to leave you all with this positive inspiring message:

The holidays will be here before you know it, and books like this make wonderful gifts.

Auf wiedersehen.

Those of us who were G.I. Joe enthusiasts when we were young find ourselves fascinated that Snake Eyes has finally been unmasked and his true name revealed.

Who amongst us could have imagined our erstwhile hero, Snake Eyes, would succumb to christo-fascist tendencies and apocalyptic delusions of grandeur?

Who could have predicted Snake Eyes would build an army of oil mercenaries to serve those that believe "Secrecy's Half The Battle"?

Scandal brewing at Oral Roberts

Mrs. Richard Roberts — who is a member of the board of regents and is referred to as ORU's "first lady" on the university's Web site — frequently had cell-phone bills of more than $800 per month, with hundreds of text messages sent between 1 a.m. to 3 a.m. to "underage males who had been provided phones at university expense."

Richard Roberts, according to the suit, asked a professor in 2005 to use his students and university resources to aid Randi Miller a county commissioner's bid for Tulsa mayor. Such involvement would violate state and federal law because of the university's nonprofit status. Up to 50 students are alleged to have worked on the campaign.

HOLY CRAP!! is once again great. I hope this little section of the blog never goes away. I find an awful lot of humor in little pieces the "Dog Bites Man".
A well deserved nip out of the behinds of those who grovel in front of the Alter of Bigotry and Anti-Science.

McCain lost the respect I once had for him when he went and donned robes at Fatty Falwells big money-making church.
Falwell, Dobson, and all the rest are so bigoted that it makes one wish a Dog did indeed exist.

During the week of October 22-26, 2007, the nation will be rocked by the biggest conservative campus protest ever – Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week, a wake-up call for Americans on 200 university and college campuses.

The purpose of this protest is as simple as it is crucial: to confront the two Big Lies of the political left: that George Bush created the war on terror and that Global Warming is a greater danger to Americans than the terrorist threat.

So they are going to turn two big lies into three to solve the problem of the first lie.
What a snow job, 75% of America know this war in Iraq is Bush's War, he owns it. He lied to get us there and is continuing the lie.
Iraq was the war that should have been fought, but Iraq didn't have huge supplies of oil.

But I'm sure FOX network will set their camera's up to make it look as if there are thousands attending your "big" events.

Sorry, I meant Iran was the war we should have fought.

Re; The Last Three Miles book at the end of your column.
If you want to purchase it for the holidays, great, but don't purchase through Barnes & Noble.com. They are a web site sponsor of that lesser American Patriot and all around hate monger, Rush Limbaugh. Go to his site and find out.
It's time NOT to put your money where your heart is. Boycott those businesses that support him and this war.

Re: BOOKNOOK
Maybe Norman Spinrad's book Osama the Gun can't find a publisher because it isn't very good. Of course that's probably not the only reason, since he has found publishers for other books of his.
Anyway, the whole Islam-Christianity clash of civilizations theme (or should that be meme ;-) ) has been done a few times recently (the movie 300, the movie Kingdom of Heaven, the book The West's Last Chance by former Newt buttboy, current Washington Times editor Tony Blankley).
I guess the SciFi treatment of the [th|m]eme maybe hasn't been done lately which might be a reason to try it. Execution needs to be better though.

I once heard an editorial director at a major publisher say "Life is too short" to deal with Norman Spinrad. He may be a good writer, but not good enough to compensate for what a major pain he is to deal with (from a publishing perspective). Having had phone run-ins with him from time to time during a previous career, my attitude is: good. Life is, indeed, too short to bother with the man. Sorry.
