Where Are Their Lapel Pins?
By John Amato Saturday Oct 06, 2007 9:15pm![]()
It started with Edwards' haircut, then Hillary's neck line and now Obama's lapel pin. The media is insane, ladies and gentleman. I expect and understand that Drudge will pass the slime down the food line to Limbaugh and then to FOX NEWS. It's infuriating to see it instantly end up on the MSM. Christy explains...
Right wing Conservative, John Cole is shrill:
Seriously- what does the current Republican party stand for? Permanent war, fear, the nanny state, big spending, torture, execution on demand, complete paranoia regarding the media, control over your body, denial of evolution and outright rejection of science...Hillarycare doesn’t scare me as much as Frank Gaffney having a line to the person with the nuclear football or Dobson and company crafting domestic policy.
That is why the Republican party is in shambles. The majority of us have decided that the movers and shakers in the GOP and the blogospheric right are certified lunatics who, in a decent and sane society, we would have in controlled environments in rocking chairs under shade trees for most of the day, wheeled in at night for tapioca pudding and some karaoke.

my thinking is they lost them in a toilet stall during ruff sex with larry!
someone should accuse these guys of being "phony intellects".
first??
Where were those pins made? More than likely, not in the US.
So...where's the REAL patriotism.
No offense to the genuinely mentally ill, of course.
Becoming completely amoral to sate your greed and lust is a choice more than a condition, although they do seem to take it to a pathological level of excess....
roooth @ 4:
none taken
Good catch John. Barack is more of a trend-setter than we thought :)
INANE as well as INSANE.
Add ASININE while yer at it.
Please don't encourage them. These reich wingnut extremists wrap themselves up in the flag enough as it is.
Wingnut's Post Referred to by Cole:
Yes, not wearing The Lapel Pin is a conspiracy, enacted by Soros and the U.N., to make everyone in America forget they are Americans:
"Am I Canadian, or Mexican, Bubba? I forgot, since their was no flag lapel pin on t.v. to remind me"
"Beats me, Cletus, but I is gittin the desire to burn whatever flag it is that represents us. Fact, I now feel anti-whatever-we-is."
Rats and ships come to mind.
Ruthless People @ 8:
Amen. I've had enough of the pigs-in-a-blanket. A very poor use of a most excellent blanket.
Of course there is no flag lapel pin. It'd be too much. Clearly. Can't you tell? Bill 'New and improved joker products' Kristol is already wrapped in a flag, so he doesn't need a pin. I mean, duh.
OK for the Third Reich.
But the US should be above this sh*t.
I'm sick of reading the term "nanny-state." Lets not kid ourselves- "police state" is the actual term
Kristol can't wear a pin; he'd have to decide which one.
This is how it goes. The moronic media lashes out at every little thing that the liberals do.
But, for the asses that they kiss, they give a pass.
The Democrats have got to stand up to these administration whores and tell them to talk about something that the country wants to hear. If the media prostitutes continue to suck up to this administration, then the scum that they are should not be granted interviews.
Better yet, do what Nancy Pelosi did. Call them out on their non question and show the audience how stupid they really are.
it won't be long before they're wearing old glory condoms on their lapels. the way kristol has been going lately, he hasn't been listening to himself or he might flee in embarrassment. but he would have to have a soul to feel, so there goes that idea.
Yum, tapioca!
Seriously, thanks for a good giggle.
Now wheel me back in for that damned karaoke.
Never mind the republicrats. The only light out of the tunnel-Dr.Ron Paul.
ralph @ 10:
Amen, Ralph. Amen.
You know I read through some of the comments on the linked pages and what I can't figure out from the conservatives is that they keep worrying that we might end up like Europe. I can't figure out why the right figures that Europe is hell on earth.
JK @ 19:
Don't think so, he also says impeachment is off the table.
That and he is a Republican.
And a loony nut job who's economic and social policies will finish off the country just as fast as if we left Chimpy McFlightsuit in place.
If he was looking for a party to join he'd been better off going with the Wigs, at least nobody hates them anymore.
You RP Repugs are all over the place, get a grip. Nobody here is going to vote Repug no matter who they run.
We have had enough already.
Greg @ 21:
Europe is nice, and now has a more stable currency, and has a higher quality of life, and better pay.
And the people are healthier, and better educated, and live longer, and are happier, and have retirement available instead of perpetual work until the time comes to strip clean the accounts over at the hospital.
Gee, no wonder they hate Europe!
There is absolutely no way their God, laissez faire capitalism, can ever compete with that.
And they know it.
Where ARE their lapel pins?
If you're the kind of asshat who would ask
"Where is their lapel pins?"... just fucking give up.
You're a douche with the IQ equivalent to your average Freeper.
someone fix the title of this entry - it's grammatically incorrect.
"wheeled in for tapioca pudding ..."
Don't forget about IHOP and the f***ing underwear.
JK @ 19:
Ron Paul might be the shiniest turd floating in the GOP punchbowl.
He's still a turd though.
The reason they jump all over the most moronic things is because this administration has done absolutely NOTHING good for this country... there really are no bush accomplishments for them to point to...so.... they spend all their time "reporting" on really stupid, non-news items. I would love to see somebody get on these "news" shows and just dare these loudmouths to name one good thing this administration has accomplished. They can't! I've said it before, and I'll say it again... failed presidency, failed administration, failed party!
OMG look at the latest Fox News discussion on the lapel pin! http://unrealitycheck.com/archives/07/0710/obama_lapel_pin_washington.jpg
The "current" conservative movement has gone bad? Oh, how convenient. Which brand of conservatism are we in at the moment . . . Are we in 1970's Nixon corruption conservatism, 1950's McCarthy paranoia consevatism, or racist Goldwater conservatism?
This must be a new flavor of conservatism we're suffering from - I'll call it "Shrubfucked" conservatism.
Funny thing to do to repubs - say "Reagan Era" and watch em' "get happy".
What a bunch of crap. The american conservatives were just FINE with ALL of that, so long as the Republicans were in power. NOW HEAR THIS: As far as the average conservative is concerned, the Republican's ONLY transgression was to LOSE POWER by being too obvious about the fact that their only 'principle' was to hold on to it.
What a flag pin really declares
Do you really think John Cole is a right wing conservative? He certainly was one, but he seems to have seen the error of his previous allegiances. He curses the GOP every chance he gets and he says he plans to vote Democratic for the foreseeable future. It's true that he still has right wing friends and it's also true that his reactions to some things are still reflexively conservative, but give the guy a break--he's in recovery. It's a long process.
They create issues where there are none. Voracious topic changers and obfuscators, they stymied progress. Now they approach extinction.
burnt @ 2:
I imagine guys like this have always been around, but it hasn't been until the explosion of modern media that they got a platform or got piped into our haomes at every turn.
I'm not sure I like modern technology. I was happy in the 70's. We had enough modern stuff, and people were relaxed/normal/open-minded. We talked about conspiracy theories when we got stoned (and listened to great music, on vinyl), but we didn't worry about them the next day when we woke up. Now we live them-- every moment.
No, no, I figured it out, guys! The reason you can't see their lapel pins is because they're upside down. I don't mean the pins, I mean the people. We're looking at their asses! Those aren't lapels, they're pant legs. The lapels are upside down beneath the frame of the camera.
breakspear @ 12:
Yes, the Israeli flag.
Speaking of Limbaugh, hows about dusting off this old chestnut. From the most trusted name in news this weekend-----
And on Friday, the winner of the Nobel Peace prize will be announced. Among those nominated, former Vice-President Al Gore and radio host Rush Limbaugh.
Thanks for joining us on "This Week at War." I'm Tom Foreman. Straight ahead, CNN's Special Investigations Unit "Narco State: The Poppy Jihad."
JK @ 19:
Oh ya. I'd rather have nuts, than nuts in Washington. If you can't read what Dr. Ron Paul stands for on his website, please get someone to read it for you. We already have a president with his eyes wide shut and fingers in his ears when it comes to anywhere outside the US. He's been a failure. We don't need another. Had too many in a row now.

I'm not yet ready to dance on the grave of the GOP in its current form. The sad fact is that Reactionary forces in society have always and will always exist. It's the nature of Life and Change. The question is whether such forces will be (properly) marginalized by a decent society; or whether they will be embraced by a political party, as they have these last thirty or so years. In any case, there would be sweet irony in having the 1980s prophecy of Barry Goldwater (whose presidential campaign is considered the launch-pad for the modern conservative movement) fulfilled concerning the demise of the GOP. These are his words:
"Mark my word, if and when these preachers get control of the [Republican] party, and they're sure trying to do so, it's going to be a terrible damn problem. Frankly, these people frighten me. Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise. I know, I've tried to deal with them." (November 1994, Conservatives Without Conscience, John Dean)
AND
"However, on religious issues there can be little or no compromise. There is no position on which people are so immovable as their religious beliefs. There is no more powerful ally one can claim in a debate than Jesus Christ, or God, or Allah, or whatever one calls this supreme being. But like any powerful weapon, the use of God's name on one's behalf should be used sparingly. The religious factions that are growing throughout our land are not using their religious clout with wisdom. They are trying to force government leaders into following their position 100 percent. If you disagree with these religious groups on a particular moral issue, they complain, they threaten you with a loss of money or votes or both. I'm frankly sick and tired of the political preachers across this country telling me as a citizen that if I want to be a moral person, I must believe in 'A,' 'B,' 'C,' and 'D.' Just who do they think they are? And from where do they presume to claim the right to dictate their moral beliefs to me? And I am even more angry as a legislator who must endure the threats of every religious group who thinks it has some God-granted right to control my vote on every roll call in the Senate. I am warning them today: I will fight them every step of the way if they try to dictate their moral convictions to all Americans in the name of 'conservatism.' " (Barry Goldwater, Congressional Record, September 16, 1981)
You know what, Stan, if you want me to wear 37 pieces of flair, like your pretty boy over there, Brian, why don't you just make the minimum 37 pieces of flair?
Ron Paul 2008
Gary @ 43:
RP is a nutjob who will destroy this country as fast if not faster than Chimpy.
Nobody here is going to vote for a Repug so save your fingers and peddle that crap elsewhere.
revko @ 27:
Bears repeating, over and over and over...
As long as Ron Paul says he's GOP, he's dreaming if he thinks he's going to get my vote. Why the heck would ANYONE recommend Ron Paul, no matter what platform he has, as long as it has the GOP attached to it like a bad case of the crabs?
Ron Paul = GOP. End of story. When he goes back to being Libertarian, then we can talk.
Ok, I'm done with my rant. What I really wanted to know, why the heck does William the Bloody always have this "Don't worry, I know my hair is on fire but really, it doesn't hurt that much!" look on his face lately? Or has he always had that look on his face?
denial of evolution. I'm a repugnicon and I believe in devolution.
Did I just create something?
joee @ 25:
Yep. I'm not much of a "grammar nazi", but this is one mistake that I notice more and more in our world. It are getting really out of hand!
This is all the Repugs got............?.............lapel pins..........?
dispicable.
The answer to the mystery of the missing lapel pins is this:
Leading Republican compassionate conservatives held a secret meeting in Dick-Head's office and decided that it might be desirable to make instant recognition of each other less conspicuous than having flag lapel pins out in the open for all to see.
So they decided that if they had small, full-color, American flags tattooed on the heads of their peni, they would still have the same instant recognition of each other as they made their normal greetings, but the public would not be privy to their membership (Unless they left the stall door ajar by mistake).
So soon all American flag lapel pins will disappear from republican lapels. What are they going to do with all the old pins? Well, many of the die-hard, true-blue conservatives are having them installed as piercings in their ani to really give their good buddies a thrill as they meet and greet.
It is a convenient interpretation that patriotism is now some 2cent lapel pin by the very people who won't get their lazy butts to a recruiting station- like Bush's great idea for solidarity after 9-11: go shopping.
If John Cole is a "Right Wing Conservative", I'll kiss your ass.
Not a good idea to wear a tie in a street fight Billy.
Do reichwingers lap each other's lapel pins?
It's hilarious. It's not stop comedy.
If you're a dem without a lapel pin you're hitler and stalin rolled up in one. The lack of the pin CLEARLY shows the inability of the dems to lead or to be honest or to even be properly amerkin.
However if you're a repug it's ok to hire prostitutes, solicit sex in bathrooms, rig elections, commit impeachable criminal offenses on almost a daily basis and lie about it while covering up all the facts so that the sheeple never actually find out what's really going on. And THOSE are the people they want you to believe are the "good" guys because at least THEY know enough to wear a lapel pin.
Oh yeah and if a repug doesn't happen to be wearing a flag on their jacket that day it doesn't mean anything.
The political media is neither crazy nor stupid.
The political media's goal is to trivialize politics, reduce it to babble, insults, misdirection, obfuscation, wrestling in the mud.
The political media is and will be eminentlty successful because war pimps own and control it.
Look, the Timothy McVeigh's, the David Koresh's have taken over the rebulican party. These people are extremists and fanatics. Good. Fuck the republicans, they deserve to have their 'grand ole part' kicked to the dustbin of history.
There really are PIGS FLYING IN THE SKY !!!! Look over there, people !!!!
Sorry to see that they've taken their flag pins off of their lapels. What with using patriotism as a state imposed pseudo-religion, upon whose alter every conceivable crime and atrocity could be committed with impunity, the lapel pin was a good visual indicator for me of who I should not trust. If I had no other information about a person, the flag pin told me to be wary - this person is probably not to be trusted. It's been a good indicator that I have been able to use to proof-out GOPers, DINO's, corporatists andmanipulators of all persuasions. Kind of like the mark of the beast - the bad guys tell you they are the bad guys, but never know they're doing it. Now I'll have wait for these people to open their mouths and say something, whereupon they will prove that they should not be trusted.
Orangutan. @ 6:
I first pointed this out in the Sunday Morning Talking Heads thread. No Hat Tip for me though. :)
Thrasyboulos @ 55:
I agree. The media realized years ago that stupidity sells more than common sense. I believe that's why they continue to cover the non-stories the way they do. And, as we all know, the Republicans are overloaded with stupidity so they get the overwhelming media coverage without being called on it. The question that needs to be asked is, why is the public more interested in the former and not the latter? The simple answer. Stupidity
Where is there clown makeup?
GOP POLS TO WEAR FLAG PINS ON THEIR ‘TAPPING SHOES’
sic: "the media ARE insane..."
Kristol was wearing a lapel pin, it said: "Flag this!"
