Legacies

Yesterday in the Washington Post, Bill Kristol expressed frustration that the U.S. didn’t do more to help Burma.

What about using our national power to help the Burmese people against their tyrannical rulers? Burma’s regime lost what little legitimacy it had with its bloody crackdown. Parts of the ruling elite must be nervous. Couldn’t we give at least some of Burma’s generals and soldiers reason to doubt the wisdom of slaughtering political opponents? Couldn’t we turn our intelligence-gathering capabilities on Burma to monitor, document and publicize what is happening? Couldn’t we tell the generals who are ordering and the soldiers who are carrying out this crackdown that they are being watched, that their names are being recorded — and that the day will come when there will be plenty of evidence to hold them personally accountable for their deeds?

I believe that day comes for us all, Bill, but let me address your questions anyway and explain why we didn't do more to help Burma. Click here for more.

Sorry Billy but after Iraq we wouldn't trust bush to send a cub scout to canada.

So Bill "THE BLOODY" Kristol wants another bloody war for oil. Who's surprised?

We traded our power for the money to fight this war in Iraq.

Great explanation. Too bad only the educated and informed will read this, the ill-informed lemmings will simply scratch their heads and say, in a word, "huh?"

Chevron is already making money in Burma. There is nothing for us to pay mercenaries to fight for.

billy bully has no veracity any more. where has he been for the millions who have
had to flee their home in iraq? where has he been for the genocide in darfu?

with his head stuck up his butt, that's where.

if we ever get " taken over" by political opponents, does anyone think they might put Bill Kristol on their list? But I agree, Burma would at least be worth the fight

Which may explain why everyone else in the world is basically just watching us.

How in the world can someone be wrong EVERYTIME he speaks and still be able to sell it.

thepoetryman's picture

O, Bill! Behind your mask,
Like the last beat of Taps,
Convulses such somber notes of demise;
The tinted base of your deceit
Heaving death like a burning lamp…

O! Your manifest shiv enters my chest,
The plunge, nastily skewed, lances bone
And falcons of liquid screech forth my soul
Addressing what I cannot glimpse;
A sweltering certainty
Clearer than the throat of God…

This ache lies beneath all things
With a precision greater than self,
More blinding than the flash of white phosphorus
Comes your face and your hatred of living…

O! In this swift and decisive instant
The phantoms rise to greet me!
Unsightly they climb up out the collapsing urn
And I see the spiral of your hideous guise
Laying prostrate, groping with enraged beasts!
Thrashing as one in unbridled foulness,
Pawing at one another while the hand of God
Trembles at seeing such hopelessness…

Aw Bill, if *onlY* we could. Hey, maybe we could get the rest of the world's countries to help out. Maybe we could make some sort of club for nations to get together and, if need be, exert pressure on governments. We could call it 'The United Nations'.
What did you say, Bill? Neocons are bent on destroying the UN because it fears a one world government or any limitations on US hegemony?

BTW on another note, Bill, with all these wars you want: Where does the money come from?

=my2c

PS. How does this clown still get a podium to sprout his idiocy?

Billy is just not too smart.

Here's the deal, Bill. You and your neocon cohorts have bent America over and penetrated our anus. We can't go running from country to country putting out fires while you chicken hawks have your pitiful dicks shoved up the nation's ass.

The bottom line, Bill, is you guys have shagged the USA rotten. And because you have screwed us we cannnot help those other nations whose people are being screwed. This is a chain reaction fuckup started by you and yours.

Just saw on the crawl of c-span that George Allen will co-chair the Fred Thompson presidential campaign. Nice choice, Fred. Nothing like bringing that guy and his story back to the front burner during your faltering campaign.

If we think we're in trouble now (and we sure are) can you imagine how much worse it could get with someone like Thompson making major decisions for our country?

Notice it's the same people who want the government out of THEIR lives to "do something" about (fill in the blank).

Hey, Bill, why not get your buddy Rupert Murdoch to send a horde of papparazzi over to document the atrocities instead of relying on the CIA? Send all the reporters on staff at the Weekly Standard to go and do exposes on the corrupt regime. Maybe Hannity can arrange a "Freedom Tour" for Rangoon.

Putz.

Would not worry toooo much about Freddie Boy T. Even George Will, about as conservative
as they come, wrote an article in the NYT on Sunday telling his reading auidence that
Fred T. is a total and complete "joke". Am inclined to agree.

NOW he wants to take on the FAR east!!!!! China might be just a tad upset with us if we went into Myanmar, and even with ALL of the soldiers that we have in Iraq and Afghanistan and ALL of the private contractors, against China's army, it would be pathetic.

Get a grip Bill. I know war is profitable, but if we get blown off the face of the planet, where are you going to spend all your money?

For some reason the old song from the Inkspots (back before the earth was cooling) keeps coming to mind. "I don't want to set the world on fire, I just want to start a flame in your heart"

No idea why.

The debt clock has links to Washington contacts. I check it all the time. It's a big part of American news that never gets in the news. Funny, that?!? Really?!?

If you'll notice, they always predict an over-high deficit, and when it comes in under, the news is, "We're in great shape: deficit down." It's like saying I had planned to spend $1,000, I don't have, but only spent $800-- good for me!! Woo-hoo. (We only borrowed another $800 from China.)

Ruthless People's picture

From the link:

"And there are two key facts to keep in mind about China:
1. China has the largest standing army in the world.
2. China is holding a big honking chunk of U.S. debt. "

They are holding big chunks of our debt because of Bush and our standing army is depleted because of Bush.

Thanks a lot Chimp!

Do you know for certainty that the U.S. Nat. debt includes the "off budget" dollar amounts
dedicated to the cost of the war in Iraq...something like $800 BILLION at present???
If not, then each citizen may have an even larger individual debt.

Ah yes, spin us more yarns of daring do, diabolical intrigues, and implausible reasoning, Captain Sticky. You speaketh with grave and glib intonations and slippery illogical erudition of evil events and actions as yet to be realized except on Saturday morning cartoons created for compassionate National Socialists and self-important imbreds from the moral majority. The diabolical schemes and Satanic knotted String Theory you so desperately cling to has much to add to the potty discourse of your dubious dialogue for dummies. But then, here lies the rub.... and you are the rubee. With a desire to slash away at further useless blather, as with Occam's Razor, I strive to bring an atoll of tropical (topical?) clarity to this rigged hand of Canasta you have so crookedly dealt. Barring significant joint dislocation, road rash, spinal stenosis, stubbed toes or testicle twists....I expect to see your bucktoothed Smiling Jack joviality at the next booze ladened Campus for Christ Crystal Nacht and other such pitiful pathetic pleasures that are the want of so many of your fellow water-carriers as they eagerly await a stall to open for business, you toe-tapping yanker.

Remember when Bill sold us the war in Iraq and Congress fell for it hook line and sinker? Well if he hadn't done that, maybe we'd have some idle national security assets to direct towards the next humanitarian disaster, be it Myanmar, Sudan, or elsewhere. Unfortunately our army and marines are overtaxed and in no shape to stop appalling things from happening anywhere.
