Dan Abrams--most recently GM of MSNBC--looks at the laughably petulant and childish insinuations being made at FOXNews about Chris Matthews, moderator of last night's GOP debate. Apparently, the team over at FOXNews is incensed that Tweety would dare to say anything about the White House trying to control the flow and framing of the news and thereby taint George Bush as being anything less than the masterful Commander in Chief they say he is.

So what is the propaganda arm of the White House to do? Suggest that Chris Matthews is too liberal to be an unbiased moderator for the Republican debate, unlike their fair and balanced Sean Hannity and Brit Hume. Be still my gag reflex.

Tweety...liberal!

Thanks Nicole, taint and Bush in the same sentence...BLECH.

Tweety is the person that claimed herr dubyah should be on Mount Rushmore.

Maybe I'm losing my mind but this seems so ridiculous to me that I'm just laughing at it.

Until the issue of corporate control of our government is overcome, the media will continue to serve those corporate interests. It's not a question of liberal press versus conservative - it's a question of corporate interests versus citizen interests.

Doggiebobo's picture

I did not watch any of the Repig debate last evening(knowing that Tweety would
be the moderator), so I find it hard to defend most anything relating to Tweety...however,
for anyone to refer to him as a "liberal" seems absurd... He is what he is; an entertainer
and most assuredly NOT a journalist/reporter..

God I wish the other networks would do an indepth expose on how not-news Fox News really is. They're the big pink elephant in the back of the room that everyone knows is there and everyone knows what they are but no one inside the room is willing to point out. And I'm talking someone who isn't as obviously biased as K.O. - who I love watching - but seriously, like an all day Let's Point Out What's Wrong With Fox News coverage, starting with the morning shows and running through Jay Leno.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The credit crunch that has troubled financial markets in recent months will eventually take its toll on the U.S. economy, former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan said on Wednesday.

It's quite common knowledge that liberals will fawn over mann coulter over and over and over:

MATTHEWS: But when liberals oppose wars, they are treasonists. We’ll be right back with Ann Coulter. I’m trying to get these definitions down and being nice to this brilliant writer.

MATTHEWS: It has always been personal, and she's an agent provocateur. She sells huge numbers of books because I think a lot of relatively boring guys like to walk around carrying her books, to be honest with you. She's a very brilliant writer. She knows how to enrage, and she did it. This is very personal stuff. Unfortunately, you're dealing with a real-life situation with Ann [sic] Edwards' medical challenges, which we all know about, and the fact that they did lose their son Wade. And you don't make jokes about those things in polite society.

MATTHEWS: That‘s why she‘s a best-seller. You are a controversial lady, you write beautifully. You have a brilliant brain.

MATTHEWS: I stayed up last night reading your chapter on Willie Horton, which was absolutely stunning it its satire. It reminded me of the young George Will.

Yeah, chrissy is such the leftist!
lol.

If they joined forces, the other networks could bury Fox News six feet underground if they wanted to. The question is, why don't they?

So why is a gag both a joke and a reflex?

Or for that matter a retch and a wretch?

IIRC, Bush's official portrait has him set in front of the Fab Four on Mt. Rushmore, as opposed to the usual 'in the study' portrait favored by past presidents.

Dan Abrams has done several segments that have hit back at Fox. It is totally out of character for him based on his previous show.

I think that in this new incarnation he is trying to ride on Olbermann's coattails. He actually said as much in a recent interview. Whatever, I'm just glad to hear more Fox bashing. And as for the question of whether Fox is actually a news network, I have graphic proof that not even Rupert Murdoch thinks that it is:

Murdoch Mag Says Fox News Is NOT News

Also, a message to all Democrats and progressives: STAY OFF OF FOX NEWS!

Fox News likes to hire people desperate to keep their egos viable.

SAN FRANCISCO - Carly Fiorina, the former CEO of computer and printer maker Hewlett-Packard Co., has signed on as a contributor with Fox News' soon-to-launch business news channel, the media company announced Tuesday.

I am constantly amazed at the number of people that mistake Chris Matthews for a liberal.

Look no further than his gushing over Giuliani.

Ok, John. You can't have it both ways...Either Dan Abrams is a right-wing...shill or he's the fair-minded hero of progressive thought.
Come on. The truth is these guys are really only looking for the two "R's"...Ratings and Revenue.

Period.

slappy magoo's picture

The Alpha-Dog bravado is what disgusts me the most. THEY know they're biased. WE know they're biased, and WE ALL know there's a segment of the public that'll NEVER believe they're biased, either because they really believe what Fox tells them, or it's just Fox tells them what they want to hear, the truth as they think it ought to be. Kind of the same way some borderline mongoloids think wrestling is real, and some people know it's not really real but what the hell it's exciting to watch people get what's coming to 'em, right? It's those 2 mentalities that comprise most of the Fox news loving crowd, and the people who work for Fox and the people who love Fox despite knowing it's biased luuuuuuv to claim it's not biased, that in fact they're centrist, middle of the road, meat-and-tater eating American news that the liberal media doesn't want you to hear.

And the deck is so stakced in their favor, we now have the courts determining that the news isn't responsible for broadcasting the news anymore. We have an Administration more than happy to feed the news propaganda and Fox News is the greediest mouth on the largest teat. The only hope for the de-dumbification of America is the 'net and word of mouth. Keep telling people Fox News is bullshit and show them the proof until they either all see the light or die of old age. Hope there's enough time...

1.) I quit whating Fox News years ago. So why anyone bothers to cite Fox News on anything is meaninless.

2.)Tweety is such a suck-up to any one considered to be somebody it would seem that he is "fair and balanced' in that respect. His family is largely Republican and his democratic leaning was during his youth while a Congressional flunky. Those days a long gone and he is now somewhat of a schizophrenic talk show host. A journalis he definitely is not.

As for Abrams, His assendency as MSNBC GM has resulted in MSNBC trying mightily to be a Fox news wannabe. The only honest journalist on the MSNBC network is Obermann and I am waiting for his demize before long.

As for this segment:
I don't know, it was ok, but what is with the background music? Doesn't anyone just do the bloody news anymore? It almost makes me wonder if there are subliminal messages being piped in under the music:
"Buy a $5 drink from an uber-coffee-chain; lease a car you can't afford; put a yellow ribbon on the back of your SUV and do little else; Sleeeeeep"

Two prostitutes arguing over which is the least virginal. Mr. Abrams and his corporate outlet are just as biased as Fox News, only their lord is Wall Street rather than the GOP directly. It puts them on the same side very often, but not always, and so we get treated to these little spats. The sad thing is that so many people are convinced that guys like Abrams represent the counter to Fox News. Not even close.
