Georgia blogger FlackAttack at Tondee's Tavern is covering this in great detail. But the short of it is that progressive Robert Nowak and Macon Mayor (which is what Marshall was before becoming a congressman) Jack Ellis are both running for the Democratic nomination in GA-08. They're both stunned by Marshall's anti-S-CHIP stance and his disingenuous arguments about why he supports Bush's veto. But Nowak has pointed out a myriad of reasons why he thinks GA-08.

Your right, its not the kids fault, but how much irresponsiblity should I have to pay for?? Maybe we can attach an amendment that states one can't have children unless they prove they can pay for them....

It is very stupid for the the Bush Cultists to demonize universal health care when its favored by 60-70% majority. Watching the GOP noise machine attack CHIP is like watching a zombie walk into a buzz saw.

That's just stupid. For example, where I work (the local power co) the hourly employees make between $11-17 an hour, which is a well above average wage in this part of the country. They are offered a family plan through work that is $147 a week (and it's getting ready to go up another $20). Out of 800 hourly employees, how many get it? Not one. Not one single employee has opted for the family plan. None can afford it. It's over a third of their take home at the top of the pay scale.

SCHIP is a wonderful and effective program, it's just too bad Congress couldn't figure out a way to place the burden for funding it somewhere else other than on the backs of poor, stressed out and hard working people who are addicted to smoking. Sales taxes are inherently unfair and regressive. Why not place the burden on people who can afford it? That said, I fully support the program, it's just that our representatives have demonstrated sever disregard for a less wealthy segment of the population that lacks access to representation who does something that they might not approve of while continuing to give the wealthy elite a free ride.

There is no problem with you, Cythraul merely comes here to flamebait. Ignore it and it will go away.
I don't believe that any family who has their kids insured privately now will drop that insurance and put their kids on govt. insurance if they qualify under the schip program. I wouldn't. So the argument that people with more money will jump on this program seems fairly flawed to me. No one is going to put their kids into a govt run insurance plan unless they need and have to.

I just wanna point out what a great job Pelosi and Reid are doing smacking the GOP around on health care. It’s an issue most Americans care deeply about, and GOP members of Congress, if they want to keep their jobs, are gonna have to split with the White House on this. That’s a first, and it bodes well for the Dems’ effort to reign in Bush’s Iraq fiasco.

'Malpractice' is a high-concept term. It's use spoils the ad (which may be effective anyhow, just as Moveon's ad was effective, even though the pun on Betray-us' name was something better left to the blogs).
Avoiding high-concept protesting is a constant concern in designing protests. Too bad Blue America confused the issue with this unnecessary legalistic (and inaccurate) term.
Great ad, a kick in the nuts. These conservatives who didn't learn from the elections in 2006 are committing political suicide. There is no problem with this bill. The only problem is Bush protecting the insurance companies who know they will loose money if it passes. So all they have to do is use the words "Socialized Medicine" to get their base. It has been proven by S-CHIPS, MEDICARE and MEDICAID, that government run health care works better than private insurance.
This has nothing to do with an entitlement program. It has everything to do with big business, lobbying and promises of Health care providers.
Need proof? Ask any politician, especially the ones who voted against this bill if they will give up their government health care (socialized medicine) for private insurance. I garun-fucking-tee you everyone of them will say NO.
A Marshall item from January. I wonder if he's been on "Better Know a District," because he doesn't know his... or his party.
I live in Georgia and a lot of the establishment Dems are afraid to stand against Marshall; they see him as Democrat who can beat the Republican in his district (I disagree, I think the reason he's so unpopular is because he isn't to the left enough to get minorities/the poor to come out and vote for his Republican-lite positions); however two great progressive Democrats are challenging him the primary. I almost hope one drops out and liberals put all their support behind one person and take this scumbag who constantly betrays his constituency out of Washington.
That is a sweet picture, but I think they should use a picture of a very cute helpless infant.
