Blue America Speaks With Randi Scheurer
By Howie Klein Friday Oct 12, 2007 1:01pmIf you drive north out of Chicago towards Wisconsin you'll hit the 8th congressional district, currently held by a semi-Democrat. I say "semi-Democrat" because Congresswoman Melissa Bean calls herself a Democrat and votes for the Democratic leadership and helps make the dream of corner offices and close in parking spots a reality for Nancy "Off the Table" Pelosi, Rahm Emanuel and Steny Hoyer. Unfortunately, when it comes to core issues, Ms. Bean has a distinct tendency to support the Bush Regime and to tend to the interests of corporate contributors before the interests of her constituents. She's an official Blue Dog and a Bush Dog her voting record is execrable.
Today Blue America is welcoming Randi Scheurer, a citizen activist-- not a professional politician-- to Firedoglake for a 2 hour blog session 1pm- 3pm, Central Time (11am- 1pm on the West Coast). Randi is very plainspoken about the issues. When we asked her when troops should start coming home from Iraq, her answer was a firm "tomorrow." If you don't have the time to come chat with her at FDL, please consider making a donation to her campaign on our Blue America page.

I will not support another Dem candidate unless they have a history of exhibiting spine. I won't vote for another Dem just because they are a Dem, or just because they are not politicians.
Good luck to Randi. I'm mad Pelosi isn't supporting Donna Edwards
I'm glad to see someone is making some moves because the Democrats in office sure aren't. I'll be sure to check out Ms. Scheurer over at Firedoglake when I get the chance. If not, I will check out the Blue America page.
By the way, I have to ask and I know its a question that everyone is pondering: What is the dog looking at in the picture? Hey, it could be important. The dog might be looking at one of those terrusts behind a tree.
Any person who has a litte white fuzzy dog is good in my book :)
Too bad IL-08 is "semi-republican". Otherwise anyone could run as a Democrat and hope to win. At some point your ideology has to reflect the people who actually live in the district. This is one of the most red districts in the state of Illinois (Gore-Bush 2000: 41.8-55.5, Kerry-Bush 2004: 44.3-55.7).
No doubt, Nicole, you'll be banging on doors for Scheurer's husband in the General.
Note, I love this site -- as it points out so deliciously the difference between liberals and lefties.
Illinois could do with some fewer self-hating Repub voters in the suburbs...
Randi was very nice and articulate....she seems very driven and doesn't tolerate corrupt incompetence......I think the country will benefit with someone like her....BUT..the job she's going after will be very Difficult. After everything thats happened to the country over the last 6+ years..She'll have her work cut out for her.But I think this woman is up to the task.....If I lived in her district, she'd get my vote.
I live in IL-06 and was represented for 35 years by Phil Crane, about as big a republican hack as they come. The district is moving but slowly, it's still very red. We are very lucky to have Melissa in there voting for Nancy for speaker, even if that's all she did. I can dream of a true progressive but the district would go red in a heartbeat if we aren't careful.
I don't care who you are,
This is what the world needs RIGHT NOW!!!
HILARIOUS!!!

I am sooo happy that someone is taking on Ms Bean. I don't live in the 8th, but I had told some of my friends that I am so frustrated with Bean I considered running myself.
Good on Randi. I'm going to go to Blue America right now to donate. I think I'll go to her website as well. Maybe I can work on her campaign.
Thanks C&L.
"Melissa Bean calls herself a Democrat and votes for the Democratic leadership and helps make the dream of corner offices and close in parking spots a reality for Nancy “Off the Table” Pelosi,"
She "votes for" the leadership? Those votes were held at the beginning of the Congress -- and Pelosi was elected Speaker UNANIMOUSLY.
And the Speaker did NOT support Hoyer's election, and does NOT particularly support Rahm Emmanuel's leadership position either, since she's not the DLC type.
And the Speaker is ENTIRELY BLAMELESS on how Melissa Bean or the other B. Dogs vote.
But it just feels so good to bash the Speaker. Maybe after you get done bashing her, you can get a cookie from Rove's successor, because you can ONLY be helping the Republicans by crapping on the Speaker at every turn.
Pelosi, from a WaPo article, http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/10/09/AR200710... :
Pelosi:
I am ashamed of myself for even entertaining the notion that Pelosi should pay attention to, and respect the Little People (the unwashed masses) who tell her what she should and should not do. After all, her base in her district does not know who the Leaders are, as opposed to the power-affirming and money-gathering servants AKA voting and money-contributing citizens. She is far better advised to treat the Repugs with respect than her own base.
Furthermore, as for replacing Bush Dogs? Nevermind about that; we have properly been admonished to accept the present cabal...oops, sorry, Blessed Leaders... as our betters.
Does this person have a website with any of her information or her political views on it?
Zenrage I tried looking for one but could not find it at all.
I found it... finally...
Its at Free The Democrats
The issues button does not take you to her stance on issues, but rather a showing of her opponent's issues. To see Randi's stance, you have to click on one of the three issues in red under her picture.
Otay @ 1:
I had the opportunity to talk one-on-one to Randi Scheurer for about 20 minutes at YK Chicago... she's definitely a populist Dem; not anywhere near corporatist/establishment. Worth supporting.
EconAtheist @ 16:
Excellent. But more importantly than positions, I want to make sure she is smart enough, full of spine and stubborn enough to withstand the fear-mongering tactics of the Repubs. Not that she isn't, but I want proof this time. ActBlue gave us Tester, Webb, McCaskill and others who completely folded to the obvious scare tactics of the right during the summer FISA passage and condemning MoveOn. I can't bare to see anyone else I supported pull this self-defeating nonsense again. A cute dog and a favorite song from the sixties doesn't do it for me (no offense against Randi).
Otay @ 17:
I asked her some ..what I thought were good questions....and she seemed up to the task.......she seems feisty.
I'm with Paul in LA up there^ cut Speaker Pelosi some slack.......if you can do better...run for her seat..I'm sure if one of us got the job...there would be a big learning curve..
mudshark @ 19:
Read my link up above. I can't speak for you, but others and myself were totally disgusted. I am now convinced she is listening to Broder's concern troll advice about distancing herself from the base and trying to get along with the 29%ers. In any event, her attitude and airing the dirty laundry to attack her base is disgusting.
mudshark @ 18:
Good! I like to hear this.
thanks for removing my comment
rxp @ 8:
I live in IL-08, Bean's district, and yes, it is very red. Unfortunately to Bean was much worse, so it was a matter of "the lesser of two evils." The local Dem party is making progress, though .... slowly.
jimbow8 @ 23:
That should say "the alternative to Bean was much worse...."
jimbow8 @ 24:
you also got it right the first time
