Senator McConnell Staffer Admits To Smearing 12 Year Old Graeme Frost

Via TPM:
Check this out: An aide to GOP leader Mitch McConnell has acknowledged in an interview with Kentucky's Courier-Journal that he actively sought to alert reporters to the wingnut smearing of 12-year-old SCHIP posterkid Graeme Frost:
WASHINGTON -- Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's spokesman acknowledged yesterday that he alerted reporters last week to questions bloggers raised about the financial circumstances of a 12-year-old boy Democrats had used to urge passage of an expanded children's health insurance program.
It has been reported already that an email from a McConnell aide went out to reporters telling them of the winger attack. But this appears to be the first time that McConnell's people are publicly acknowledging their role in trying to push mainstream reporters into joining the attack on young Graeme. Stewart acknowledged to the paper that he'd done this as "part of regular conversation with reporters." Read more...
Christy nails it, and I'll go one step further - given the ferocity of the attacks on Graeme and the Frost family -- this staffer should be fired and Senator McConnell should publicly apologize to the Frosts for his reprehensible actions.
Did Mitch McConnell mislead the media?
MCCONNELL: Is there an indication that your office was trying to push reporters to go dig into this background?
REPORTER: Then what was the deal with the email?
MCCONNELL: What?
REPORTER: What was the deal with the email from your staffer?
MCCONNELL: There was no involvement whatsoever.
REPORTER: From your staff?
MCCONNELL: None.
Also, The Hillbilly Report has a video posted so go and check it out.
Kentucky folks at peace rally outside of Senator Mitch McConnell's office, in Louisville, Kentucky, say thanks to Graeme Frost and shame on you to Senator Mitch McConnell!!!!

Did Mitch McConnell mislead the media?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
No, he lied.
Good Lord, these people can't even lie well any more.
Looks like the news here is that McConnell's staff confirmed what everyone already knew. I don't think they even attempted to deny it -- they just refused to discuss it because it's an embarrassment.
Oh, well -- better late than never.
To paraphrase the line in the movie Love Story. conservativism is never having to say you're sorry.
he is an embarassment to the state of kentucky, the city of louisville and the university of louisville who not only have a scholarship program in his name, but a dedicated wing of the library in his name.
i really really wish chris dodd would state his connections to uofl a lot more openly. and i really really wish that the university would dissassociate themselves from him if he continues to act this way.
mitch has a 45% approval rating here (probably less in louisville), an 11 year low. i can guarantee you this, should the democrats put up a strong candidate, like an andrew horne (a retired iraq war veteran against the war) or a greg stumbo, they'll win, not because of anything they will do, but because of what the minority senator has done since the last midterms. i hope andrew runs since he is the perfect embodiment of what mitch's constituents want- their sons, fathers, husbands, daughters, mothers, and wives out of iraq.
These people can no more admit their mistakes and ask forgiveness than they can be truthful.
This is great !
Great !!!
I'm sure the O'Reillys and Limbaughs of the world will report it tomorrow on their programs.
Here is a big question: How many "News organizations" repeated this lie before it was investigated and discredited? Which talking heads? How many reports? Have any of them (except KO who was not guilty but apologized for those who were) stood up and apologized?
It is almost time to out Queen Mitch the Closeted. Sure hope preparations are being made by those in the know.
THIS IS WAAAAAYYYY TOO FUNNY to close comments, you damned tease!
UnEasyOne @ 8:
Well, if you MUST call them "news organizations", that would be fux, cnn, msnbc, malkin and a smidgen of ABCblog. the smart one always attribute the story to "sources".
McConnells going down!! He is going to lose the election too.
Apologize? McConnell should step down. Republican politics... any and everything that moves. This will go down in history as one of the most vile political attacks in American politics. Spearheaded by Malkin and Rush. They're to embarrassed to apologize.
"Mislead"?!
He prevaricated, dissembled, misrepresented reality.
When did we stop calling liars "liars"?
If justice is to be served, McConnell would be taken behind the woodshed and given the ass whooping all fascist pigs deserve.
kasinca @ 14:
with the granddaddy of paddles!
These snakes apologize? Hell, they've wasted no time in going after the 1 year old
who is in the new SCHIP video and her family. I'm telling you, if you're not between
the ages of 0-9 months old and still in the womb you don't count two shits to these
cretins!
Watching cheney law on PBS and the way to get them is investigate "the crown jewel".
Begs asking the question to all those "Christian" Reich wing folks..."Would Jesus slime a 12 year old?"

Well , save the email , 4,750 phone calls to wrong wingnut operatives and their sites , and to the MSM so we could deny any involvement......
"Could the Dems really have done that bad of a job vetting this family?" Stewart asked in the e-mail.
didn't john roberts at CNN use that same phrase? i saw something about it in comments from an earlier thread.

to paraphrase the line in the movie PeeWee's Big Adventure. conservatives say: "HA! HA! HA! I'm NOT sorry!
The following news article shows that "Mitch" McConnell is easy on genocide.
"Pelosi Determined To Continue With Genocide Resolution
"October 15, 2007 7:41 a.m. EST
"Isabelle Duerme - AHN News Writer
"Washington, D.C. - U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced Sunday that she will continue to push a proposition that considers the Ottoman Turks' killing of 1.5 million Armenians an act of genocide.
"The resolution states that the deaths caused by the 1915-1923 deportation of the Armenians from the Ottoman Empire as "systematic" and "deliberate." Such accusations would consider the move from the Turkish government equal to genocide.
"Pelosi defended her decision by explaining that there has never been a better time to act upon the genocide issue. She claims that it was important for the resolution to be passed now for it to serve its purpose of justice as "many of the survivors are very old," as quoted by CNN.
""When I came to Congress 20 years ago," Pelosi said, "it wasn't the right time because of the Soviet Union. Then that fell, and then it wasn't the right time because of the Gulf War One. And then it wasn't the right time because of overflights of Iraq. And now it's not the right time because of Gulf War Two."
"The resolution has threatened to tarnish the relationship between Turkey and the United States, both close allies and members of NATO.
"The notion was confirmed by Gen. Yasar Buyukanit, the chief of the Turkish armed forces who, according to The New York Times, has claimed that the mere proposition of the resolution has "caused considerable disappointment" among the Turkish people. He was quoted saying that, considering the ties between the U.S. and Turkey, the passage of the resolution would be "sad and sorrowful."
"Gen. Buyukanit continued to say that the complete passing of the resolution would result in irreversible damage of the amicable relationship between the two nations.
""We could not explain this to our public," CNN quotes the general. "The U.S., in that respect, has shot itself in the foot."
"The possibility of the resolution being passed has already taken its toll on US-Turkey relations, as the Turkish ambassador was recalled from Washington and, according to CNN, a cease in logistical support to the US from Turkey is already being mentioned
"Pelosi's insistence was met with harsh criticism from the Bush administration as well.
""I think it's a really bad idea for the Congress to be condemning what happened 100 years ago," expressed Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, quoted by CNN.
""We all know it happened...But I don't think the Congress passing this resolution is a good idea at any point," McConnell continues, stressing the point that Turkey is instrumental in ensuring the safety of U.S. soldiers."
Let me get this straight? We have warrantless wiretaps and rendition for torture, and torture, and a Constitution-free zone in Guantanamo Bay where U.S. officials are exempt from U.S. Courts, from habeas corpus, and from judicial review of interrogation techniques and indeterminate imprisonment without charges. Now, "Mitch" admits that we have a U.S. ally that is guilty of genocide, but that we should overlook genocide because that would upset--something. Before, I thought that both "Mitch" and I were friends of Armenia, but I guess "Mitch" is a friend of Armenia only to the extent that no action in favor of Armenia offends any of our allies that have a history of genocide. There was a big difference between the Nazi Germans and the Ottoman Turks. The Nazi Germans had wholesale slaughter of the Jews (and Gypsies, and Jehovahs Witnesses, and others) but the Ottoman Turks in Armenia had wholesale slaughter and genocide of the Christians in Armenia. Hello! Hello! If America cannot express outrage against genocide against Christians, how can we maintain credible outrage against the Nazis. No, a foreign policy that winks at genocide, condones torture, condones rendition for torture, and suspends habeas corpus for people confined by the United States indeterminately without trial is a foreign policy that needs changing. No, the times, they are a-changing, and it's time to Ditch Mitch so America can speak out against genocide and torture and rendition for torture and warrantless wiretapping and the whole list of neocon policies. I am a traditionalist against genocide. I am a traditionalist against torture. I am a traditionalist against rendition for torture. I am a traditionalist against warrantless wiretapping. I am a traditionalist against suspending habeas corpus. Let's Ditch Mitch and restore the Bill of Rights of the U.S. Constitution to its traditional place of high esteem.
McConnell is a turd!

if there was real justice he would get an eastern kentucky dose.
my sister's lawyer joked once that if you could plead the eastern ky defense (pronounced DEfence) and answer yes to two questions you are not guilty.
1) did the sumbitch need killin? and 2) was you the sumbitch that shoulda killed him?
Senator McConnell = Scumbag
All the "old line" Republicans are beginning to see the writing on the wall... and THEY ARE BAILING!
Good riddance.
It is completely obvious to 70% of the voting public that the recent six years of One-Party-Rule by the G.O.P. has been a COMPLETE DISASTER for the country. It LOOKS LIKE most of them are simply going to give up and go home... but we must practice Constant VIGILENCE.
Don't take anything for granted.
Fight every battle like it's your most important battle.
Call your friends (and enemies) and neighbors and relatives... make sure EVERYBODY you know is going to vote.
Turn this into a personal political JIHAD...
THE MARGINALIZATION OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY: At 20 to 25 per cent of the national polling... they might still be VOCAL... but they will no longer be dangerous.
Elaine Chao must be proud of her husband for sending out the Flintstone sharks to attack children hurt in car crashes
This isn't surprising at all. I find the Bush administration's tax cuts for wealthiest Americans all at the expense of social programs directly impacting the children far more damaging than smearing. I encourage you to check out this link to see just how well do your members of Congress protect children?
http://www.childrensdefense.org/site/DocServer/scorecard2005.pdf?docID=1401
Like poet Wendell Berry, we need to ask: “How many deaths of other people’s children are we willing to accept in order that we may be free, affluent, and (supposedly) at peace?” To thatquestion I answer, “None.” Berry says: “Don’t kill any children for my benefit.” And so must you and I answer and emphatically tell our leaders: “Don’t let any more children die from preventable sickness, neglect, abuse, poverty and violence in the
United States or around the world for my ‘benefit.’”
Oh please! McConnell just mis-spoke. (rolls eyes).
I mis-spoke. Turkey-neck lied. No big surprise.
StirFry @ 29:
But but but we only lied! It's not like we hurt somebody you know! Gosh! You people are SO sensitive!
There is a special place in hell for southern Republicans. They are corrupt to the core and pure evil.
StirFry @ 30:
McConnel is morphing into Jesse Helms. Is it the corruption, the ignorance or the bigotry that makes all these knuckledraggers start to look alike after a while.
Without proof that McConnell knew his staffer was directly involved in the smearing, he can't be held responsible.
I personally think he knew, but opinion is not proof (unless you're a smearer).
However, the staffer should be marched out the door immediately, if not sooner. His level of involvement is unforgiveable and undeserving of public service.
I've heard a rumour there's an ethical standard in being a US Senator. It must be fictional; too bad.
ps. If proof is revealed about Mitch's knowledge, then go get him!
Ruthless People @ 33:
Yup, Lindsey Graham is morphing as well....there must be some correlation between the disappearing jawline and all the finest parts of rightwingery . It sounds like a good graduate research project.
BaScOmBe @ 10:
CNN's John Roberts did a report on it a week or so ago. The actual assertion that the Democrats didn't vet the Frosts well enough was made by an unidentified young woman. From the way she talked, you have to assume she's a Republican "strategist". Here's the link to a post about it on Think Progress:
http://thinkprogress.org/2007/10/11/cnn-blame-dems-graeme/
It's the Mitchs of the GOP that lost them the house and senate.
The fact that he has been reelected as senator from Kentucky says a lot about that bible thumping, hillbilly part of the country.
Mitch is a pathetic old fart!
That staffer didn't end up working for McConnell because he answered an ad in the newspaper; he works for him because he has qualities that the senator values. Even if McConnell throws that staffer under the bus, it won't change anything. McConnell will still be a GOPer, meaning that by his value system he puts property above people and privilege above need.
Even at this late date it still astonishes me how GOPers can value what they value and then believe that they can fool anybody with their play-acting affectations of humanity. You become what you do, GOPers.
If republicans had it their way, the sick and helpless
would simply be disappeared. Exactly like 1930's
Germany. Don't fool yourselves Americans. Its true.
Just read the Freepers comments on this subject.
...Stewart states that while there is no reason to question the Frosts, "only left-wing columnists and bloggers and others who seek political advantage seem to still be interested."
The right is too sophisticated to stay interested in their own dirty work for very long. The left are such a bunch of rubes. Yawn. These people are beyond obscene.
Cowboy Bob in Austin @ 26:
(Please note that all following mathematics is ignoring Supreme Court or other methods of interference and election tampering.)
The problem is that it only takes approximately 25% of the popular vote to win an election, under the current system.
You need 50.1% of the electoral votes in order to win a Presidential election. But to win the votes of each state, you only need 50.00001% of the votes in that state. Example: Republican wins states A, B and C by extremely close (51-49) races. Democrat wins states D, E and F by complete (100%) landslides. The total electoral votes for (A+B+C) are equal to (D+E+F), indicating that the two groups of states have approximately the same population.
The election is a tie, but the Republican candidate has only captured 25% of the vote.
f-ing liars! The reporter asked him the day after his aide admits to the email and he had the temerity to stand there and lie!
Remember when gonzo left? He bragged about "protecting our children". Great track record schmucks.
I can't wait until Mich McConnell, that pompous little prick, is outed like his buddy Larry Craig! He is a disgrace, how dare they do this to the Frost family.
Un spin control?
can a mod clean up my comment directly above and delete this message please? thanks.
Why can't the blogosphere get their hands on one of the emails sent out by McConnell ??? I would think that would end their lies about it.
This reminds me of those scenes in the Simpsons where the hysterical woman shrieks... "What about the children?! For God's sake, please think about the children!"
[deleted--do not advocate violence against anyone on this site]
No children have opposed the Republican party and lived!
Side-Show Bob
everytime i think the republicans can not go any lower, they exceed expectations. how long do we have to put up with them?
sitemon, i think you may have blown up the wrong post.
Huurrrummph... Did that make you feel better tough guy? Trashing a 12 year old?? Did Mitch the punkass bitch give you a promotion for your 'attention to detail' mofo?? I just wish I knew who you were so I could call you out directly asshole! My first reaction to all this latest is fucking republicans screwing someone over again, this time a kid.. IF I could ever confront you directly, I wouldn't just immediately wail away on your worthless carcus. First I'd ask a couple of questions and make a couple of offers, such as 'wanna pick on someone, pick on me, I think the republican plan to fuck children over sucks too!!! YOU don't like my position? Do something about it toughguy!!!.... And then I'd let nature take its course... Which in your case would probably involve slinking away to crawl under whatever fucking rock you and Mitch McConnel and all the rest of your ilk come from... And if not.... Well, in the long scheme of things, nature tends to balance out bad karma and dude, you're packing a heavy bad karma 'footprint'............JD
Gee Senator.....why dont you give your little asswhip a raise....
