Crooks and Liars is co-sponsoring 10 Questions, an interactive web project that will allow for in-depth questions and answers between the public and Presidential candidates from both parties:

Unlike television debates, the 10Questions Presidential Forum makes full use of the web's potential to expand participation in politics. Everyone has an opportunity to ask a question, and to rally support for their question being in the top ten. The candidates have plenty of time to formulate their answers, and can post in-depth replies. Finally, the community will be able to grade the candidates' answers. With large numbers of people participating, the candidates will have an incentive to pay attention. Who knows, maybe we'll even change the course of the election!

Perhaps the best part about this project is, unlike other debating Q&A, 10Questions allows participants and the public to publicly judge whether the candidate actually answered the question given. Also the candidates are given ample time to formulate and present their answers.

Read more and participate! Remember, this is a bi-partisan effort...you can ask questions of ALL the candidates of both parties. We'll be following along as this exciting project progresses.

For Dems...."What will be the first issue you address and will you take the "honeymoon period" before you start working? and for the repubs...........if elected....will you condemn personal attacks..and if not will you expect to keep the job?

For all candidates: "If the the election results were in dispute would you accept being appointed by the Supreme Court?

So, where are the 10 questions?
Here are mine:
1. Is it more important for US Americans to get a $1000 tax refund or to fund medicare for poor kids?
2. Do US Americans believe that corporations should have as much power as the federal government?
3. Would the world be a better place if the free market were unfettered by government regulation?
4. Does stricter prison sentencing work to deter crime?
5. Is it as important to teach music and art in our schools as it is to teach math and science?
6. Should cultures other than that in the US be encouraged to flourish in the world?
7. Is poverty something that those with money should worry about?
8. How can our cities be changed to improve the lives of those who live there?
9. Where will we get our food in the year 3007?
10. Should I have a child now, or wait until these questions are answered?

This looks like it hasn't been going on very long yet. There are only 11 videos and all but a few are kinda cracky.

For either party - Do you plan on holding this current President and Vice-President accountable for all the laws they have broken?

For either party - Are you going to appoint competent, qualified, experienced people to positions, or are you going to politicize all the appointments by appointing cronies, contributors, and partisan hacks?

For either party - Why haven't you done anything to restore Habeus Corpus, the cornerstone to our democracy? When will it be restored?

For either party - Will you continue with the illegal practice of 'signing statements' which make the laws passed optional or irrelevant?

For either party - What will you do to restore the middle class? What will you do about fiscal responsibility and our national debt? Specifics?

For either party - Do you plan on operating in secrecy? Are you planning on being TRUTHFUL and ACCOUNTABLE to the American people?

For either party - When are you going to end this war and bring our soldiers home?

For either party - How do you plan to take care of and pay for the long term care so very many of our soldiers will need after they return home? Are you going to sweep them under the rug, drop the ball?

For the Dems - How in the hell could you let all the things that have happened over the last 8 years happen..? What do you plan to do to make it right, and not just perpetuate it?

xoites defends Constitution @ 2:

For all candidates: "If the the election results were in dispute would you accept being appointed by the Supreme Court?

Aside from accepting it, would you ALLOW all the votes to be counted?! This is a democracy and every vote in this country should be counted or the word democracy means nothing.

For Dems: Why has practically the entire Democratic party reneged on their promise/pledge to end the war; perpetuated on the basis of the twin fallacies of "hurting troop supplies" and "not having enough votes to override, etc?" Is it not true that only 51 votes are needed to attach withdrawal language to legislation that continues to fund the war? Why have the Democrats betrayed their constituents-78% of the country- and perpetrated clearly sham rationale to vote for bush's blank check funding?

For Republicans: What the hell is up with your sick fixation on torture?

I want to know why they haven't a thing to enforce all their subpoenas. That just went away.. I realize that is through the House of Representatives and their is only one Rep. running in both parties, but that makes me almost madder than anything. They had remedies and they did nothing. THey rendered themselves impotent/irrelevant. Now, no matter WHO is in office, they know they don't have to adhere to anything. There won't be any consequences.

For the Congress: Why is there still no backup, oversight, receipt/paper trail or system redundancy legislated for voting machines? Why would no member of congress use any bank without such measures (its illegal, in fact to not provide proof in banking;), but insist on saddling the voters with uninspected, partisan-supervised proprietary and corruptible software, answerable only to a corporation with special interests resting on the outcome, and that threatens the very fundamental rights of the republic?

I want the repubs called out for their serial marriages

I want to know WHAT (specifics) they are going to do to restore totally separate but equal branches of government - essentially to fix the balance of power (as the Constitution had set up)? Are they going to take all that power that Bush and Cheney have 'grabbed' and will be passing of to them in January of 2009 and run with it?

Oops.. I am over ten questions.. (I know they weren't referring to ten questions EACH).

nwmuse @ 12:

Oops.. I am over ten questions.. (I know they weren't referring to ten questions EACH).

Is that a question? (damn, I used up one 'o my own...)

I refuse to confine myself to ten questions...

Can any of you actually count to 10?

I really like nwmuse's first question.
One of the reasons I left the Navy is that I saw too many poor leaders replaced by people who said, "Yeah, the last guy broke the rules, treated people poorly and put his agenda ahead of the needs of the Navy. I won't do that."
And that was the end of it.
No one who served under the "bad guy" ever saw any justice. Retention in my career field was shockingly low for career Sailors, in part because of the constant sweeping of the past under the rug.
That said, my question to all of the candidates would be, "are you going to hold the previous administration accountable for their actions and are you going to investigate them and their misuse of the Executive branch?"

Democrats :

Given the overwhelming unpopularity of the US in Iraq , how would you personally attempt to resolve the generations-old sectarian divide , thus bringing about a legitimate and peaceful end to George Bush's (illegal) invasion ?

----------------------------------------------------------------

Republicans :

Why do you all enjoy being closet queens and such complete assholes ?

In all seriousness though, I've got one question for Hillary:

1. Can I sell flip flops with your picture on them? I'm thinking of selling them under the following name: "Flippery™".

As if Shitt Romney doesn't change his supposed beliefs more times than a weather vane during a tornado ?

There are some great multiple choice questions in Jon Stewart's "America" book. One of my favorites goes something like - "How much do you support the troops? " a. 110% b. 120% c.130%...

Would you IMPEACH a President or ANY governing official elected or appointed to office; if they do not uphold their OATH and DUTY to protect, preserve, and defend the U.S. Constitution; regardless if it may cause any incomveniences or impracticallity in his or her opinion and to prosecute the violators to the full extent of the LAW without granting them a executive PARDON or as such; to prevent the violators from prosecutions?

From Now until 3 months before being elected President; what would you do to prove that YOU would support IMPEACHMENT and that YOU will enforce this process?

Have you supported H.R. 333? If not, WHY NOT?

ARE YOU aware that President BUSH has has done an unprecedented EXPANSION of executive power and that IF you win the PRESIDENCY, you will inherit that POWER knowing that the BALANCE of POWER between the Three Branch of Government; and the Balance of POWER between the Government and the WE THE PEOPLE, will TILT greater to GOVERNMENT and the EXECUTIVE BRANCH?

AMERICA is not going to ACCEPT this, HOW DO YOU INTENT TO FIX IT before taking office?

People ask questions that are far too vague and will NEVER get an interesting answer. You have to ask something very VERY specific, which almost no one does (as happened on the YouTube debate). The candidates then just ramble on and bullshit because the question was too wide-ranging.

Make fun of the horseshit GOP and their 9 or 10 wrinkled old flavors of vanilla running ; the best of them is still worse then each and every Dem.

Yup, if its too wide ranging , you'll get "Let me answer that question, by asking you this..." and if its a republican, then you'll end up in 911 and torture land.

For any of the Republican candidates:

If your wife or daughter were raped and impregnated by Osama bin Laden, would you forbid her to have an abortion?

For any of the Republicans:

One of those bizarre, absurd, Rube Goldberg type scenarios in which in order to stop a terrorist dirty bomb that they knew would be detonated, they would have to blow up a specific building holding the terrorists, but also holding a boy's Bar Mitzvah party. In order to save millions of Americans, would you give the order to execute the innocent Bar Mitzvah boy and his friends?

the only question that is important is this one:

Could you win in the general election?

I don't think Clinton, Obama, or Kuchinich could because of gender, race, and philosophy. I do believe that Clinton or Obama could win the Democratic nomination but have virtually no chance of getting a majority of electoral votes in the general election.

The Republican nominee will have usual glitz that appeals in the general election (unless they take the Democratic path of trying to shove something down their party faithfuls' throats and do a Goldwater)

I suggest that the Democrats nominate Robert Redford - he would match up well with the likely GOP candidate, the Law & Order star - Fred Thompson.

What about Kucinich's philosophy makes you think he can't be elected? 63% of Americans wants troops out by the end of 2008, and Kucinich is the only candidate who has pledged to withdraw all troops as quickly as possible. Seems like all of the other candidates (including democrats) want troops to stay through at least 2013.

Can the citizens install a guillotine outside your office window and keep it manned with black-hooded armed guards, day and night-- just as a reminder who you work for? (Note: It might need to be tested on underlings once in a while.)

I've never been involved in an American election before, if in fact I am now. You certainly go all out in a big big way, and for-seemingly-ever!!! Is it always this nutty, or is 2008 exceptional? I mean, I know the stakes are high. Hang on to "democracy" (at least as you know it now) or have fascist brownshirts (Blackwater) breaking down your front doors in 2009-- off to the camps we go.

For any democratic candidate: What are you going to do to repair our tattered country?

For any candidate of either party: Do our votes count or is it all decided for us by the MSM?

I have a couple of questions.

"If you say you work for the American People, then why are you ignoring a direct order from the American People to get out of Iraq, bring the troops home and start refunding domestic initiatives like SCHIP?"

"Why are you ignoring the will of the American People?"

I have another question.

"Why is Hillary being annointed as the Democratic Nominee for President? Don't we get to actually choose, instead of our choices being determined by the MSM?"

To either party.......Do you still believe in Democracy? And to follow up..."Then why haven't you done your job??

You have to make a video to participate?

Someone make a video for me asking:

"Do you support war crimes against President Bush and other members of the administration, and, if not, why not?"

By the way, I HAVE asked the Kucinich campaign that question and even they won't respond.

mudshark @ 37:

Actually, I'd say that this question needs to be asked of every American, especially progressives. Call me a concern troll if you want, but let's face it, a lot of liberals fell asleep in 2000. Many of my progressive friends saw no difference whatsoever between Gore and Bush--one prof of mine even had a large banner on his office door that read: "Gore and Bush make me want to Ralph!" Hey, that's great. Some of these folks either didn't vote, or voted for Nader. Thankfully (or not) I lived in a ruby red state at the time, so there was no chance that their votes tossed the electoral vote into Bush's column. I don't think this was necessarily the case everywhere, though.

Turning one's nose up at the Democratic nominee if that person doesn't happen to share your unflagging commitment to Issue XYZ is not only arrogant, it is stupid. I guess I'm just a little sick of the attitude I get from comments here that tend to want to put all Democratic politicians, except for Kucinich, on the defensive. The Republican party is still the problem--if even a small percent of Republican senators would jump ship on the Iraq occupation, the thing would be well on its way toward resolution. Blaming Democrats for not ending the war just spreads the meme that the party is ineffectual when in fact it is the only real partisan source of opposition to the war, and support for most social issues that I value, in DC.

This is NOT a democracy! The US is a Representative Republic, NOT a democracy.

John Cole over at Ballon Juice has some great ones. My favorite - to any Republican - "would you have sex with a man to stop a terrorist attack? They certainly think it's okay to torture so let us see how committed to the cause they really are.

I go along with "the word democracy means nothing." Thank you chimpy!!!

1. What is the Military Industrial Complex and how do you plan to shrink it?
2. Why isn't Universal Health Care one of your main goals?
3. Does the State have the right to take a human life?
4. Would you support substantive Campaign Finance and Election Reform, and how?
5. Why do you use the term "War on Terror"?
6. After years of failure and misery, would you support the ongoing "War on Drugs"?
7. Are the Nuremberg Laws and the Geneva Conventions important to you and why?
8. Is the United States systemically racist and how would you change that?
9. Is an Israeli life more important then a Palestinian life?
10. Would you sit down with the President of Iran and North Korea and cut a deal or will you continue our policy of not talking to our so called "enemies"?

I want to know-
Are you going to bring our troops home from Iraq? When?
Are you going to restore our civil rights and privacy? When?
Are you going to continue the practice of being subservient to the executive branch?
Are you going to make universal health insurance happen? When?
Are you going to get Osama Bin Laden? When?
Are you going to continue shipping USA jobs to 3rd world countries?
Are you going to continue to let corporations destroy our environment and not pay for the damages?
Are you going to really push for energy independence? When?
