Senator Brownback To Drop Out Of Presidential Race
Republican Sam Brownback will drop out of the 2008 presidential campaign on Friday, people close to the Kansas senator said Thursday.
Trouble raising money was a main reason for his decision, said one person close to Brownback, who requested anonymity because the candidate had not yet announced his plans.
The senator is widely expected to seek the Kansas governor's office in 2010, when his term — his second — expires. He had promised in his first Senate campaign to serve no more than two terms. Read more...

He Gone
NOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooo!
He gone and forgotten.
Enter Jeb?
Don't let that door hit ya, Sam.....
Oh no, that might mean he'll start showing up for work. He's missed 40% of the votes this year.
what? there was a guy named sam brownback running?
next you're gonna try to tell me somebody named huckabee is in the race, too.
He probably only ran for president so he could collect a whole bunch of money to use for his Senate re-election campaign (he can do that, right?)
Anyway, as a Kansan, I can say that Brownback is a right-wing tool and everything that is wrong with government.
Does ANYONE seriously believe that Jeb Bush would EVER get near the White House after the historic fuckup by his Bro. Not to mention the fact that HE was involved in stealing the 2000 election. If he announced a run for the Presidency, he'd be dead within three months.
Now we need this religious wack job to drop out of the senate.
So long Sam. Now you'll have more time to debunk evolution.
See you later, sam... ya religious reichwing nutcase. Don't let the door hit you in the ass.
He was in the Presidential race?
Rumor is Brownback also has a wide stance.
The GOP will lose it greatness due to the lack of Brownback's goodness.
OK, I can understand using your position as a Governor to boost a presidential run, but how exactly does a failed presidential bid help you become Governor. I guess his campaign slogan will be "Brownback, not good enough for the country, but good enough for Kansas".
He was still running?
He spent 90% of his campaign money on Grecian Formula and Astraglide. The other 10% he gave to his wacko dipshit church.
I don't understand why the religious right didn't throw its support behind Brownback. By all the "standards" they have, Brownback would seem to be an ideal fit for them.
Who?
WHO?

David B.
I can't imagine campaigning for the guy. Let alone saying his name out loud without giggling. Ok I've got a dirty mind. But I can't stop thinking about Santorum and that Mr. BB's name would be an even better fit as a definition for something unpleasant.
YEEEAAAHHHH!!!!!!!
Oh crap, are they going to replace him with Jeb? Holy crap!
one down, ghouliani to go.
What happened to all those jeebus bucks? I thought the xiofascists were so powerful that they could buy the election outright.
Deeznuts @ 14:
Maybe all these years we shoulda been referring to the bowl-legged cowboy.

When's Frankenberry going to drop out of the race?

so only 3 Creationists left....too bad there couldn't be a good scientific debate, like on Global Warming and that would finish off the other three in about 45 minutes..
Another GWB Clown gone, Now it's time for Giulliani, Romney, MCcain and Huckabee to go! Ron Paul IS the only candidate to beat ....That female democratic GWB shill.
The only genuine Conservative in the bunch besides renagade corporatist Ron Paul. That must be the real reason Republicans couldn't support him. They're only into fakes and liars like Bush and Ghooliani who don't threaten their inner hypocrits.
Huzzah!
I'm a Kansan, and I hate the guy. As for governor, the Dems can put up a dead dog and I'll vote for it over Brownback.
OK, as a Kansan I'm relieved not to have to worry about a President Brownbackside, but now I have to do something about his run for governor. That's too close to home!
one less fascist in the lineup for the repugs
Hastert is making an early exit from the house. Look at all the rats scurrying off the ship..
It's survival of the fittest, Sam, if you know what I mean.
Oh, wait ...
thank god! ;-)
now, how about the other scientifically-challenged wingnuts?
hdhdfg @ 9:
You underestimate the stupidity of some people.
Once Colbert entered the race, you knew Brownback and Huckabee were toast.
Joementum @ 36:
God created Brownback's failure. Or was it intelligently designed?
Leaving only two Repub candidates who 'don't believe' in evolution. And Huckabee is 3rd in Iowa, right behind ol' Fred. What planet do these people live on? Or has what remains of their brain been warped by reality TV and MSM propaganda?
Of the 3 R front-runners, 2 are cerifiable (Huckabee, Guiliani) and the 3rd is an ancient character actor whose one political claim to fame was bullying his way into being the guy who asked about Nixon's taping system. And yet the papers are full of stories about how Hillary Clinton is shrill, ruthless, and my favorite, on message (guess we've forgotten what it's like to have a president who can hold a thought for more than 60 seconds.)
Ha Ha Ha! Gee, Sam (snicker!) what happened to the legions of biblethumpers - uh, I mean people of Christian faith? I thought they were gonna just rally around you. Guess not, huh?? How's it feel that a freak like Fred Thompson, whose lazy ass just wandered into the campain, was able to raise more money than you did? Sucks to be you, huh dude? Not that I'm gloating about your misfortune - ah fuck it, yes I am. But hey, don't worry! Tancredo should be joining you anyday now.
Hmmpt, another rat deserting a sinking ship. Move along, nothing to see here (snark)
Marge:
If you're like me, you kept thinking, "President Brokeback", right? ;-)
Sometimes, that word association, LOL
GOODBYE!
Hearing this gave me a good case of the lulz.
Brownback backed out??? YAAAHHHH....Maybe there is a God after all...
If nothing else this is a bit of salve to counter Chimpies moronic WWIII utterances...... I'll take what I can get at this point...JD
christOfascist clown. Good riddance.
Brownback was never going to make it anyway. Not that he's unelectable (although with that stupid name it would be an uphill battle for him to see the White House); he just doesn't have enough money to beat out the other Republicans for the primary, much less face a Democrat for the election. The Republican base (rightly) figured that their best shot was with a serious candidate like Giuliani or Romney.
Now if the rest of them would give it up...
Bye, bye shitbird.
I knew he must have been in trouble when I was solicited for a contribution on Oct. 14th. How did they get my e-mail address anyway? I have made contributions to dems and liberal causes only.
The subject was, "Human Life Hangs in the Balance". I wrote back and asked how much they care for the humans that are breathing.
Exerpt:
Life must be protected from conception until natural death. I support the Human Life Amendment, and will nominate judges who know that Roe v. Wade is a wrongly decided, tragic case in our nation's history. I have fought on this issue since I entered the United States Senate. I want to keep fighting for life all the way to the White House.
Unfortunately, not everyone shares this view. Speaker Nancy Pelosi recently called the destruction of human embryos, "a gift from God". Every Democrat running for President is pro-choice and will only nominate judges who support Roe v. Wade.
Did you see the lying quote attributed to Pelosi?
Good riddance a** hole.
Give him credit. Once Colbert declared, he knew he didn't have a prayer.
I guess he believes in Evolution Now.
Oh, Mordor: He's gonna run for Governor of Kansas? Hooo-boy: I hope that Kathleen Sebelius (sp?) manages to hang onto that office. Poor Kansas just threw out most of its Creationist Board of Education (for the second time) in 2006. I feel sorry for the state again already. Maybe Brownback needs to spend more time with his snowflake children. [/snark] Just another "pro-life" theocon who supports the death penalty, the NRA, chemical weapons proliferation and opposes anything that will better the quality of life for anyone not born to rich white Christians. Good shuttance to him and his split-personality moral code.
Maybe Oral Roberts University has a place for him? I hear that they seem to be short a President just at the moment...
Folks, our long national nightmare is over. Now we need to find a suitable successor for Kathleen Sebelius, who's done a great job as Kansas governor.
Praise Be
cubiclegrrl @ 55:
Unfortunately, due to term limits, Sebelius is on her last term.

EXCELLENT news. This guy was the one real Republican in the whole mix, the one guy who actually could have pleased their base. Glad to see him out of it.
Romney v. Giuliani going toe-to-toe in the bathroom, with it's-already-in-the-name Fred (short for F-head) in the corner picking his nose, and John-Wayne McCain dividing his time between watching the action through the window and studying his own reflection for any signs of life.
Larry Craig on the side, biting Romney's ankle. It's beautiful.
Coop @ 53:
He's a Friend of the Show, no?
Colbert might be fixing to dump that Putin guy.
Sen. Brownback. You are the weakest link. Goodbye.
If Brownback drops out in the middle of a cornfield in Iowa, and no one notices, did he ever exist?

So Brownback got a brown backside when he found he was out of money.
