FNS: The politicization of FEMA

icon Download | play   icon Download | play (h/t Heather)

It is a truth universally acknowledged that anything that FOXNews bobbleheads accuse Democrats of is something of which it can easily be shown that they themselves are guilty.

Case in point:  the difference in response by FEMA between Katrina and the Southern California wildfires last week.  While there is some truth to Mara Liasson's statement that simply the Bush administration has learned to avoid the bad p.r. they got after Katrina (although not completely), there's no denying that, as Juan Williams points out, with the wildfires, it was Bush's base that was affected.  However, leave it to Bill "I get everything wrong, but I have a direct line to the White House" Kristol, to claim the difference lies in the fact the political affiliations of the respective states' governors, and anyone who suggests that there is any politicization just doesn't want to admit how they were failed by their Democratic elected officials.

time for another fake FEMA press conference to talk about how much smarter everyone in Cali was

It's really too bad that kristol wasn't alive in Germany in the 1930's and 1940's.

Oohhh...mannnn ......I never get to go " FITZ" !!

But on a more serious note....Am I reading this correctly that Kristal the bloody is actually blaming the State Governors?

Jesus H Christ ..... Is this guy a blinkered biased republican cheer leader clown or what?

Katrina, as with each and pretty well every single time Bush has been tested on his leadership capabilities, he dropped the ball. Bush failed New Orleans and the surrounding areas and the US.
The Fool was probably trying to finish "My Pet Goat" !

and

is kristol

suggesting bush

favors the states with

republican governors for disaster relief

heh...

Fema. Back by unpopular demand.

Fuck Bill Kristal. He is a complete and total asshole. He is in the same sentence as Rush Limbaugh. He has as much credibility as Sean Hannity. He is as reliable a Bill O’Reilly. He is not any better than Glenn Beck, who is just about the stupidest right wing nutjob pundit in media. He makes as much sense as John Gibby Gibson. William “The Bloody” is an utter waste of time.

So essentially, according to Kristal, it's vote republican...or else.

Well, they've politicized the military, the Justice Department, the CIA, the CDC, the FDA, the EPA, and everything else... why not FEMA as well?

These guys are all politics, all the time.

And what about the politicization of mainstream media? No credibility for you fox.

Their busy with important things.

Passed Senate: H.Con.Res. 193: Recognizing all hunters across the United States for their continued commitment... (Passed Both Chambers)
Passed Senate by Unanimous Consent.

Brit Hume: "Well yes, FEMA totally failed to respond, but why is everyone always saying that FEMA failed to respond?"

Brit Hume is a national disgrace.

It's time to wake up, make our minds up
Time to get out of this hole

When you say 'politicized,' I think you mean PRIVATIZED.

There's nothing wrong with politics per se. The problem is making politics PROFITABLE, preferably without any hindrance in law (that can be prosecuted). The privatization of FEMA -- and the destruction of the governmental concept of equality itself -- is strictly about profits; not politics, except that it is to be their cronies who shall profit under their crimewave.

Mr. Kristol will do everything in his power to try and revive his credibility. He is nothing more than a miserably failed idiot.

L.A. Confidential @ 11:

...Passed Senate: H.Con.Res. 193: Recognizing all hunters across the United States for their continued commitment... (Passed Both Chambers) Passed Senate by Unanimous Consent.

Why wouldn't such a Republican resolution pass both Houses? You may realize that it is impossible to stop the Republicans from putting forward this kind of crap, and the expedient method for dealing with it is to pass it without wasting time on arguing over it. As such:

7/26/2007 Introduced in House
9/24/2007 Passed/agreed to in House: On motion to suspend the rules and agree to the resolution Agreed to by the Yeas and Nays: (2/3 required): 385 - 0 (Roll no. 891).
10/4/2007 Committee on the Judiciary. Reported by Senator Leahy without amendment and with a preamble. Without written report.
10/16/2007 Passed/agreed to in Senate: Resolution agreed to in Senate without amendment and with a preamble by Unanimous Consent.

The total amount of time on that is probably half an hour. You might consider, however, that the main reason why America still has forests to burn is because of hunters and hunting. Almost all the remaining flyway for migratory birds is because of hunters and hunting. Otherwise, it would be GONE.

FEMA did blow it Hume. THEY WEREN'T THERE when they should have been. Blackwater beat them by a wide margin.

In a way we are fortunate that these republican creeps are so incompetent. The way they have politicized everything would have assured their dominance for a LOOONG time if not for the simple fact that they are completely and utterly inept at EVERYTHING.

Nicole:

"It is a truth universally acknowledged that anything that FOXNews bobbleheads accuse Democrats of is something of which it can easily be shown that they themselves are guilty."

This is certainly NOT a "truth universally accepted". That is a lie and is false. Universally accepted means EVERYONE agrees. Clearly not everyone does.

Here is a universal truth if you like universal truths:

There are SOME things for which the Democrats accuse the Republicans of doing that they themselves are guilty of too. I know that the memories of people are like fish nowadays, but it was "only" a year ago that the Democrats accused the Neo-Cons of war-mongering and promised voters they would stop it if elected. Well, they were elected, and not only are they not stopping it, they ARE GOING ALONG AND SUPPORTING IT. In fact, they are building permanent bases in Iraq with Democratic consent. These democrats can whine all they want about being coerced and lied to, but they had a responsibility and they BLEW IT. So in this respect they are no better than Republicans.

Playing "party politics" as if it represented any truthful and reasonable discussion has been proven to be FALSE, so why perpetuate it? It's only making things worse.

You just falsely quoted Ms. Belle. So who is lying?

Wag @ 20 "In fact, they are building permanent bases in Iraq with Democratic consent.

That's funny, since Bush has THREE TIMES signed language barring permanent bases, and the House has now passed such language SIX TIMES.

So, no, without addressing all your lies, this one is a WHOPPER.

AGain, Paul in LA, why are you angry at me? I'm not the one who is killing Iraqis.

These Flying Republican Pigs have had almost absolute power for more than 6 years, yet they NEVER take responsibility for anything.

If these EF-EWE-SEA-KAYS are so impotent that they don't have control over anything (i.e., "it's someone elses responsibility, not miiiiine"), then what the HELL are they doing in office? Taking up space?

Lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way!!!

INEPT MORONS EVERYONE!

Brittany Hume is now the new the queen of revisionist history. She is so anti-fact that she is insinuates that even chimpy has been fooled by the facts of the past.
After her coronation Queen Brittany will be Joined by darth Cheney for a randy hunting party. This time I hope Cheney doesn't get all shit faced and does a proper job.

Twit Hume should be sent to Iraq to fight for his Fuhrer.

Katrina was mostly a lower class disaster. The Ca. fires are a mostly upper class disaster. By that I mean most of the people affected here in Ca. had the financial m
eans to flee their homes and do for themselves. New Orleans was a whole different story. Expecting any help from FEMA will be troublesome at best. Time will tell. We'll see how well the insurance companies respond to the needs of their upper middle class coustomers. Big difference between a disaster in the third world like LA, and one here in monied Calif.

"For what do we live, but to make sport for our neighbours, and laugh at them in our turn?"

And wouldn't it be nice if it were that simple?

Did anyone catch Brit (ney) complaining that the media fell for something "hook, line, and sinker"

So sayeth a man with 100 meters of fishing line coming out of his butt and his lips locked around a pole.

Paul in LA @ 20,

If I read this correctly Nicole may be quoting the first paragraph of Jane Austen's "Pride and Predudice": "It is a truth universally acknowleged that a single man in possession of a large fortune must be in want of a wife." (don't have the exact text available, but that's pretty close, I believe). If this is the case, this is meant ironically, as a reading of the novel will reveal. It's a more elegant way of saying, "Things may not be what they seem" or "Common sense is not all that common", and Jane Austen's writing is nothing if not elegant.

Perhaps I'm reading too much into it, but it struck me when I first read the post and it seems to make perfect sense in that context.

Just saying...Perhaps Nicole could enlighten us all on her meaning.

Sorry, that should be WAG @ 20.

In just the latest example of President Bush's mantra that "nothing succeeds like failure," Harvey Johnson has escaped punishment for his bogus FEMA press conference on Thursday, while his PR flack John Philbin is moving on to greener pastures at the office of the Director of National Intelligence.

For the details, see:
"Never a Firing Offense: FEMA PR Frauds Move On and Up."

Why the hell can’t Juan just tell it like it is? He is the kind of negro they always use to promote the black view. He is not going to tell it like it is for the fear he will not be invited back to that circus. They are scared as hell of real black Americans for the embarrassment they would suffer as they use the cheap tactics they pull. It is not a mystery that the bigots that have been running our government for the last six years, simply hate people of color and most of us could give a dame about any of them or their media circus.

They promote their hatred 24/7, all over the media and in every system of this government by speaking out against any policy that would bring any kind of honor, assistance or support to people of color. They disregard any contributions we make or steal it for their own. They are an embarrassment to decent white Americans

Any legislative bill that hits the senate floor, that would bring any kind of salvation to people whom also, I might add are tax paying citizens of this country and get nothing for it. They kill it and this sick ass media promotes and plays games all day long with the lives of people of color. They think they are being smart but they are in for a wild week end when the shit finely hits the fan.

This Chris guy is as stupid as he is dumb and it takes his dad to really talk about his ignorant ass, so I will leave it up to pops.

Bush has made sure that he and the cheap thugs that run this government into the ground are fully covered by the same law enforcement and judicial systems we all pay for because they know that many of them would not see another peacful day with the cheap evil tactics they are using to screw people of other colors.

We are not stupid as they may try to promote. Again for the record 80% of us knew in advance that Bush was a lying ass thug in a suit. We knew his policies would fail and tried to warn America of his misdeeds. If the truth be told, that is the biggest problem they have with black people in the first place. We called them on their misdeeds and refused to vote for their asses so now, they call themselves making us pay for our unwanted intelligence that many of them lack. We say go to hell to all of them. We will never live in their fear tank. Been there and done that.

They need to make sure they keep that protection forever at the rate they are going. We are going to wash their faces with everything they have done to bring the kind of pain they have brought to people who like those in Iraq, have done nothing to deserve it.

One more time for the record folks. George W Bush is supposed to be the President of the United States of America. The buck is supposed to stop at the white house door steps. He failed to do his job as the leading person of this country with Katrina. He knows that he failed and so do all of them, no matter how they cow tow and tip toe through the tulips.

Like everything else in his miserable life. He again FAILED.

Wag @ 23 "That doesn't change the substance of what I said, you are trying to start a fight where none exists.

That the neocons and FOX typically attack others with their own crimes in order to innoculate the words (and the crimes) is universally acknowledged by anyone with a clue.

Of course, it's still news to Mom and Pa Kettle. I think in context, Nicole's statement is completely fine.

Yes, they call you a thief if they just stole your hat.

Count on it.

Murdoch is the contemporary Randolph Hearst. War sells = Sell War.

Wag @ 24 "Democrats said they would end the war. They lied."

What Democrats said they would end the war? Name names.

The names you will name are ones like FOX. The fact is that no one in the Democratic Congress gave you a lollipop when you were three years old, either -- don't try sending them your psychiatry bill.

"That makes them no better than Republicans."

Just another one of your misconceptions.

"why are you angry at me? I'm not the one who is killing Iraqis.</blockquote"

You are also not building castles on Mars. So what? When you misconstrue in order to blame the Democrats for Bush's CRIMES, then you are just doing the hit job, don't kid yourself.

Disaffiliated leftists NEVER acknowledge the opposition except to slander the Dems by saying they are the same. It's a slippery surface where you don't have to do anything, and they, because you VOTED (oh dear!), are to blame for the way the world is.

Because you need a scapegoat to hold your simplistic worldview together. How convenient to have an entire party to blame for the actions by the other party in concert with the guy who stole two presidential elections! How convenient not to have to do anything substantial to change the world for the better, because it's far easier just blaming your scapegoat.

woodguy @ 32 ...Nicole may be quoting the first paragraph of Jane Austen's "Pride and Predudice": "It is a truth universally acknowleged that a single man in possession of a large fortune must be in want of a wife."...."

You are, I hope, aware that men are NOT supposed to quote (or be in knowledge of) Austen.

"If this is the case, this is meant ironically, as a reading of the novel will reveal. It's a more elegant way of saying, "Things may not be what they seem" or "Common sense is not all that common", and Jane Austen's writing is nothing if not elegant."

I wouldn't know.

And you, kind reader, might wonder that while it is universally accepted that children do not issue from sows, there is yet some reason for scepticism.

-- Jim Austen

Brit, Brit, Brith...All you left out was the tired "liberal media" label. FEMA wasn't there ya big dummy...! What DO you do again?

Paul in LA @39,

Personally, I haven't given too much weight to what men are supposed to quote, or do or think since I was about 11 or12, when I figured out that many men (and women) are fools.
I trust you must realize the quote from dear Jane (we've been on a first name basis for years now) that you cite here makes my pre pubescent decision the correct one.

It is sad that you're unfamiliar with Jane's writing. Try reading a bit of it sometime, you might find it enjoyable.

I can't watch Kristol AGAIN today. I'll just trust he sucked a wee bit more shit out of Bush's ass, and leave it at that. (Your country is like a bad comedy. Bad because it's real. Otherwise, you couldn't write better stuff; laugh-a-minute-riot material. Just sayin'.)

Yeah, this administration certainly wouldn't waste such a sychophant on the military. They are saving a political appointment for him once Snow kicks the bucket!

Actually the party affiliation of governors at emergency sites is probably a factor in response time.

A reichwing administration comes to the rescue of a state with a reichwing governor (although admiteddly more moderate).

This just should not be.

Funny that the most moderate conservative politician has a heavy Austrian accentl.

Excuse the typos, I haven't had enough coffee yet, and have the shakes.

Mmm...shakes (drool).

Look for lots of good republican Press in California over the next year, this is where they plan the 3rd stolen Election!

Hello, Gee, anyone from ohio move to San Diego over the last two years?

Wake up California.

Brit Hume: Admires the Democrat's early blame FEMA game and how fantastic it worked! What a complete dipstick. Really, when you relish your own manufactured delusion, now that's incredible!

Juan sort of gets it. Britney Hume, well he just never wants to get it.

One thing for sure is that the GOP is trying to repaint their image.

Case in point is the phony FEMA interview produced by FEMA using tax dollars.

Bush's FEMA is more concerned with their appearance than its actual tasking.

Like taking a can of deodorizer with you into a frequenlty used out house in the noon day sun.

Good smelling shit.................?

I wonder how they would have responded if a cataclysmic volcano erupted in downtown Los Angeles and the whole city was blanketed in flames/lava as New Orleans in water/sewage. On second thought they would have quite naturally blamed Major Villaraigosa, the cursed democrat, who failed to properly coordinate with both FEMA and State's anti-volcano reaction forces and their "See Jane Run" disaster plans.

Katrina: Democratic governor, Democratic mayor, President stays on vacation for five full days, returns to Washington, then visits area a week after event. Republicans blame Democratic politicians for lack of response.
Hurricane Wilma, October 2005: Republican governor (Bush's brother), Bush visits within 48 hours.
I-35 Bridge Collapse: Republican governor, Republican mayor, President visits within 48 hours.
California wildfires: Republican governor, Republican mayor, President visits within 48 hours.

Your sense of sarcasm must have been stolen by Jane.

How do we get monsters like bill kristol, brit hume, et al., denied habeus corpus, and then onto a private jet in the rendition program to, say Syria... where they can be surely tortured? With those idiots, I don't wanna take the high road.
and btw, is it my imagination or do they have Juan Williams' face made up 'white' on Fox? His mug is just a tad darker than Hume's!
