Daily Show: The Manufactured Narrative of "Inevitable Hillary"
By SilentPatriot Wednesday Oct 31, 2007 12:28pm
Jon Stewart dissects Tuesday's Democratic debate and the clashing manufactured media narratives which say Hillary has it locked up one second, and that she's fighting for her life the next.
"But wait. You just told me it was over. Now it's apparently the fight of the century? Wow, what a manufactured showdown."

Hillary is a corrupt bitch.
Yeah! First one! That was great! Now, let em watch it..brb :)
Weapons Industry Dumps Republicans, Backs Hillary
Leonard Doyle, Independent UK
The U.S. arms industry has all but abandoned its traditional allies in the Republican party and is putting their money on Hillary Clinton.
http://www.alternet.org/story/65869/
The fix is in on this one...and has been for a long time.
corporate media, owned by the republican party, has been lusting after her for a number of reasons, and it is bound and determined to make her the Dem candidate.
All the polls are so overwhelmingly Hillary, and I don't know a single person who really likes her. Gee, it must be me.
One big puppet show, the media will tell you who has won soon enough.
Of course, "manufacturing a showdown" is the only way to drag out an election cycle a YEAR longer than normal, that is being used to distract the populace from the topic of Impeachment.
After the way the Bush Administration screwed up the Katrina aftermath, I thought there was no way in hell the people of Louisiana would elect a Republican governor. I was wrong. This makes me worry even more about the 2008 Presidential election. Hillary is facing a tough dogfight to win the Presidency even if she wins the Democratic nomination.
...the above comments in no way imply Hilllary looks like a dog
"Mind Control"
@6
meant presidential campaign, not actual election cycle.
DEMS DEBATE ‘UFOS’: HILLARY’S ‘UNIDENTIFIED FLYING OBFUSCATIONS’
Stewart is a master at taking things out of context, just for laughs of course.
My god, this is the best candidate the Democrats have? So there's a choice between Mayor 9/11 and one of the most corporate friendly, and funded, candidates in either party. Say what you want but I'm not voting for either, I might not even bother voting at all. There's no point. You'd think, with the horrible job the media has done and the Orwellien world the corporate media lives in, that people would vote for whoever the media DOESN'T like, since what they choose is almost always wrong. What in the world are people actually supporting with Clinton. What that she strongly stands for or wants to do is there to support?
http://www.ericmargolis.com/archives/1998/12/attack_on_iraq.php
Margolis's 1998 archives provide a convenient abbreviated snapshot collection of Clinton's Iraq activity of that year. (Not to suggest Hill and Bill are necessarily interchangeable or that anything's, like, predictable. I'm just sayin'...)
Lollimom @ 4:
Well it must be me as well. She's behind in all the liberal polls. None of the liberal magazines or blogs are on her side. I don't know of anyone who's supporting her.
These polls are BS. The corporate media wants her. They'd really love to get some old Clinton trash back on the airwaves again. Great for the ratings!
Lollimom @ 4:
Yeah, same here. I don't know anyone that wants her to be President.
"corporate media, owned by the republican party"
It's more honest and accurate to say that the corporations own both parties, not the other way around. Pick an issue and tell me either party takes a stand that puts them directly AGAINST corporations. It's possible and happens in other countries, never, ever here. Thinking otherwise gives un-deserved cover to the Democrats.
pepper @ 16:
I'll pass on that.
If Hillary is the nominee be prepared for President Romney.
hillary should have
been the one to wait 17 minutes
into the "debate" to
be asked a question
heh...
Hillary may win the primary nomination, because of 1. Fond memories of a not-so-bad, in fact, pretty-damned-good, very-much-the-opposite of the current abomination, Clinton administration; 2. The sympathy, and 'women's' vote; and 3. The MSM drumbeat that she is 'inevitable'.
But remember, the MSM backs, in fact, is part of, the Bush administration/philosophy/policy. So why are they 'pushing' Hillary?
Because in a general election, run on a 'Win-At-Any-Cost' Rove/Gingrich/Swift-Boat basis, Hillary is like a duck floating on top of a pickle barrel beside Cheney with a loaded shotgun.
And Obama is much the same.
Neither has much of a chance of surviving a general election, even in '08, when a change in ruling party seems a slam-dunk, truly inevitable, a next-to-death-and-taxes sure thing.
Don't bet against the wisdom of the maxim, 'Don't underestimate the stupidity of the American public'.
They proven it over and over again, most recently in the past two presidential elections.
And history usually repeats itself.
With no viable third party on the horizon, the Dems only hope is to select a general-election electable candidate.
And Hillary and Obama ain't it.
i just don't understand why the left, liberals, progressives and the thinking class reject hillary?
is it her adherence to AIPAC platforms?
is it the fact that rupert murdoch held a fundraiser for her?
the fact that she voted for operation iraqi liberation?
the fact that she supports the run up to a war with iran?
the fact that she is a corporate lackey?
the fact that the war-profiteers are backing hillary over the normal wargasmic GOP?
the fact that hillary supported lieberman's race against lamont?
the fact that hillary is ok with preemptive nuclear war?
i just don't see why all the dislike (see, intense hatred) of this woman.... /sarcasm off
pepper @ 16:
exactly
there are so few dems, like the courageous Kucinich, that are not corporatists. other than the rare dems with integrity, the leadership and the party in general is for corporations, not people.
Preacher Boob @ 20:
Right on! Hence my support for Kucinich!
I wish Jon would do a show (or a series of shows) on 'The Inevitability of Impeachment'.
Not only would it be good for the nation directly, but it would push Stewart right past Colbert as the inevitable election-winning presidential candidate for '08.
UFO does not = little green men. Just means it was not identified.
Bugger off, I still want Kucinich for president.
I like to thank somebody for standing up to the shit these people are starting again to take this country through. Jon has a real message he is trying to give and we need to really focus on it and stop the madness.
Senator Clinton is no more the front runner then her counter part Gulannie(or what ever) is. The republicans don't even like this man. These polls are staged by this administration and this corporate driven media who are very worried about being shut down when the next democrat takes office. They have purchased Senator Clinton so she will owe them their jobs. All the debates are owned operated and controlled by them. They brow beat Senators Obama and Edwards to come forth with their cases (and oh they most certainly did). We need to take notice that sense MSNBC came back with the true winner of the debate, you have not heard it anywhere. Not even our local news papers carried this important revelation. They all played it off or not mentioned the debates at all. By the way Senator Obama won it in the eye's of real Americans and I believe that Edwards took a strong second.
They (media), had no idea of just how forceful, precise and right on point they (Obama & Edwards) would be as they have promoted this woman as the so call front runner all over the networks and at this point felt assured they have successfully mashed it into our brains also. (not true by a long shot), They are way off base and to continue this game is not doing her any justice at all because it is adding even more supporters to other candidates base then before.
I know that is the case with Senator Obama as he has opened up several headquarters in all of the key States and you better believe they are heavily stocked and very well organized, with thousands of people working day and night for his leadership and the notion this woman is so far ahead in the polls as they are promoting, is way beyond the pale and it just goes far enough to outright call them cheats and liars and really warrants investigations into the mix.
I just can't fathom the idea, of even liberal media falling for these corporatist polls they are getting. Case and point is that they don't believe anything else from these people that promoted this illegal war ( and continue to this day to promote it). They promoted and lied about all the elections sense Bush took office in 2000, using the same bastards that did the polling then as now. John Zoby whom own the so called top rated polls are now promoting that American people have a new view of this illegal war and are somehow warming up to it . What is wrong with these people and I include liberal media in the mix as many of them are just as stupid and gullible in their efforts to present this shit to us.
These people are again purchasing our president and shutting our voices down and if we refuse to see this, we will again go through another eight years of being dismissed by the person in the white house who will be controlling this media.
They are working hard and fast to get even more control of our media then they already have if that's possible and we should all be lined up outside of the FCC department to demand our voices be heard. The Reverend Jessie Jackson, in which they all despise is doing the job that many should be supporting him on and that is getting in the face of these criminal FCC, thugs and blasting them about all of the NEW rules they are attempting to invoke on the people of this country to get control of our next election and if we do not wake up and help this man shut this shit down. We are in for an even bigger mess them we are already in. Forget who is leading it and get behind him folks.
If you think we are going through right wing hell now, just wait until they take over the Internet and shut our bloggs down, including this one.
When are we going to wake up and join one and other, instead of bashing, and shut these bastards down?
cheap shot at Kucinich, and a shitty game of cutthroat from the media as a hole..
maybe because he is the man with which the people actually agree with his policies?
is that what you are afraid of?
wait for some real primary results, and we will see who is gonna eat a bag of d*cks...
"Sanjaya"...Beeeutiful!
amgriffin @ 25:
Spot on Griffin. A question to belittle the only candidate with the balls to question the mental state of GWBush. Or, to paraphrase what Dennis said just a day or two ago...If there is not something wrong with the president, then there is something wrong with us!!!!
I like Hillary. Her husband Bill Clinton was one of our greatest presidents.
The Clinton years were a great time of peace and prosperity. The rest of the world loved Bill Clinton. Unlike this current president.
She will get the nomination and she will win. The powers that be want her to win and the American people want her to win. Giuliani is a thrice married, pro-abortion Republican who the Evangalicals will never be able to to support whole heartedly.
Get ready for our first woman president. Personally, I can't wait.
amgriffin @ 25:
No, it means "He said he felt a connection in his heart and heard directions in his mind.”
Three words...Give. It. Up.
OH-VER.
The Inevitable Hillary is being reported by the same people that gave us the Slam-Dunk War. I guess their memories are shorter than ours.
NBC did the best they could for the Republican party by attacking Hillary. One question by Russert showed this was personal. He asked why her shows were out dated. Now that let me know this was a sit up. Williams and Russert did the job they were sent to do which is bring down Hillary. To bad it back fired and now Hillary got more supporters. No one said a word about how the White House has asked Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter to help with the Middle East mess. I will be saw to let Hillary know the names of those who shouldn't be an insider to the White House when she becomes President. What's really funny is how Argentina just elected a female President as the US calls itself the only country that gives Woman Rights. I wonder if Brian Williams would like his daughter, should see want to be President one day attacked like Hillary was. If the American people are going to vote for a President with qualification this time Hillary stands alone. If Americans want another idiot who will continue the Bush/Cheney policy and put the US in more debt then we can just vote for any of the other candidates. Our National Debt is 9 Trillion dollars and counting and Bush has promised if we vote for another idiot our debt will reach 21 Trillion. So for all those comments about how Hillary is a bitch I say always remember that woman is some ones Mother, daughter or sister and how would you like it if someone called your Mother, sister or daughter a BITCH.
So Kucinich gets a question about fucking UFO's???? It was such an appallingly silly question, I don't blame Dennis for having difficulty knowing how to respond. This was just another attempt by our so called "liberal" media to discredit the one true progressive in the race.
you don't honestly believe that guliani will get the nomination do you? Mark my words its fred thompson or someone who hasn't shown up yet.
Republican strategists want hillary to get the nomination because they know that so many americans who follow politics casually or not at all will deliberately vote for the other candidate. We cannot let her get the nomination.
Oh yea vote nader pls kthxbai
The attack is on Kucinich, clearly. SUPPORT THE MAN.
You know, all we have to do with the press is get them on the narrative that nobody believes them. Once that meme creeps into the background, and it will, it will undercut everything they're trying to say. That's what eventually happened to the Soviets-- things got so bad, no one was buying their legitimacy and it all fell apart.
nsr @ 37:
I thought it was because our military industrial complex outspent their economy? Or maybe this is my chance to pimp it as reagan's doing. *fart*
gene214 @ 34:
Yup! My contempt for MSM is at an all time high...after Russert ask that question I literally screamed at the tv...and I wonder, do these people, who are enabling this administration, and the corporations behind it, care, or even realize they are destroying this country?
Kucinich's sighting of a UFO may be a sign that he will become President one day. Both Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan sighted UFOs.
All over the rightwingnutosphere they are in a frenzy about Hillary supposedly having an affair with a muslim.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/susan-madrak/the-body-person_b_70769.html
memeorandum shows it's been picked up by lots of rightwingnut blogs and they are running with it for all it's worth, and not just the blogs either.
http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2007/11/01/publiceye/entry3439833.shtml
gene214 @ 34:
Dennis should have answered, 'I see you, Timmeh'. Does that qualify?'
Jackie, you're right about people treating Clinton with disrespect, and when they due it usually has something to do with her gender. I think it's horrible. However, if she weren't a woman (and weren't a Clinton) how many women would vote for her? Would she have a snowballs chance in hell? Based on her stances on issues she'd be in the Dodd, Biden area roughly. It's nice that she would be good for women in this country on certain issues and she, like most everyone else, would be a giant improvement over Bush. However, on most issues where REAL change is needed she will do nothing, I'm guessing like her husband might even make things worse in some ways (NAFTA, Telecommunications Act, etc). A lot of people want change and Clinton will not bring that about. For people who really, really want healthcare, trade, foreign policy, etc radically changed (a majority of the country) her potential nomination is pretty dissapointing and, I think, poorly timed. Her stances on issues is so mid 90's and it was horrible THEN.
Hey, turkeys. You think "corporate media" wants Hillary? Well, maybe more than Kucinich, whom they obviously view as a kook; but they sure as hell don't want Hillary. The storyline, in case you haven't been able to guess it, was that they were bored by Hillary, and they were busy making up character flaws for her. She's too controlling, she's weak; she's a crazy liberal, she's a right-winger.
The truth is, that debate was the Russert attempt to fully energize the anti-Hillary forces, even taunting Obama to "go after her" with that totally idiotic Social Security bullshit; and when that fizzled, to pull the "corporate Hllary" number; and when that failed, Russert himself went after her on the phony-baloney "driver's licenses for illegals" bullshit, that was specifically aimed at parting Hillary from her political ally in New York.
Remember Dean? Do you think his campaign exploded all by itself? It was exploded by playing The Scream over and over, and completely irresponsibly NOT mixing the sound right so that it would be clear that Dean was just shouting over an enthusiastic crowd to make himself heard. Russert is a Giuliani man, after being a McCain man for years. He's a partisan Republican, and he'll go after any Dem. He was headhunting for Hillary.
My suggestion? Listen to each candidate on your own. Make up your mind. Volunteer for the one of your choice. Stuff envelopes for them, and vote for them. But our media, including these idiotic debates, particularly the ones run by the fat potatoheads of MSNBC, are totally unreliable.
Samson- @ 21:
No, it's the fact that she drives people like you even nuttier than you usually are. She is none of those things. Go UFO hunting.
coleshack @ 40:
Not just that, but Nancy influenced Ronnie with her astrological consultant.
I wish the media would treat Kucinich with more respect. The man told the truth! That's what matters. He weighed the consequences of his response, and he still told the truth. bush never came clean about cocaine abuse and being AWOL, Bill Clinton never came clean about smoking pot, Reagan never came clean about Iran/Contra, george h.w. bush never came clean about his long-time affair (yes, he had a mistress named Jennifer, too).
Kucinich told the truth. And by the way, we all have a "little voice in our head" that speaks to us. It's called intuition or conscience, or both. When it's especially clear, it's sometimes referred to as ESP. One thing we can be sure of, Kucinich will never hear voices from beyond that tell him to start two wars, lose them both, and then try to start another.
Disclosure: I support Chris Dodd.
Preacher Boob @ 42:
DK should have known the question was coming. It was being kicked around on all the blogs all week long.
http://talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/056706.php
It was his friend Shirley MacLaine sandbagged him and that's not the media's fault. That's definitely something that should be followed up on about any Presidential candidate (although Timmeh's asking him about it in the lightning round w/ 30 secs to answer was mean as hell. If it would have been about Giuliani or Romney or any other candidate any other candidate we'd all be having a field day with it.
Lollimom @ 4:
Nobody fixed this vote.
Umm, the Great Carsoni!
clearlyalec @ 36:
I have for 4 years now. That ain't about to change.
So let me get this straight, Stewart gets to bemoan the manufactured narrative of Obama confronting Hillary and then 2 minutes later supports the manufactured narrative of Kucinich as a UFO seeing moonbat loony tune? Thanks Jon. Thanks alot. I notice just two days ago he had one of his correspondants do a feature on how Kucinich's wife is hot too. Tool.
pepper @ 16:
Oh, please, give me a break.
Talk radio is 90%+ right-wing, not mainstream (otherwise known as progressive, which is about 70% of US citizens). Do I need to mention the name Murdoch? Newspapers and their "conservative" (code for right-wing) slant?
No, republican money bought out the media, and I can't allow you to spin that one into a foggy it's-both-parties nonsense.
After her hubby gave away the digital spectrum for free, I'd say that, yes, the corporate media does like Hillary.
Jim, taking time off from the Hillary campaign to come over here and shoot down left wing crazies? How in the world could you possibly say that Clinton doesn't have too close a relationship with corporations and the corporate lobby? Do you need a run down of the connections? If her last name wasn't Clinton and she wasn't a woman she wouldn't be leading in the polls and everyone knows it. You tell us a single stance on an issue that Clinton takes that would require her going against corporate interests. We could with other candidates in the field, not Clinton. If she's the nominee the Republicans have a chance, especially after the let down of the Democrats since '06. What the Democrats have done since '06 is a sign of things to come if Clinton, or anyone like her wins. When it comes time to challenge those in power, to call for fundamental change, to actually take a chance, she'll back down and never really solve the problem at hand. I'm so sick of politicians like her and the Republican candidates.
StCyrlyMe @ 26:
That my friend, is likely the ONLY way we can stop these fascists! Unite and march on DC!!!
Jim H @ 45:
She is most of those things. Despite her big-money-war-profiteer/lobbyist sponsored campaign so far, it's a smear to call her a "a corporate lackey" and I don't think she's "ok with preemptive nuclear war", but the rest are just plain undeniable facts.
Lollimom, what have the Democrats done on trade for the last few DECADES? Have they had a non corporate friendly trade policy (which by its nature is anti worker) or have they sold the farm (literally in many cases) to corporations and what have the effects been as a result? How about healthcare? Even the ones who are for expanding healthcare do so using big corporate healthcare firms, with only a few exceptions. Foregin policy? Not a damn difference, especially when it comes to the companies that build bombs (we export half the worlds weapons ourselves) and rely on government money to exist. Clinton in the 90's gave a speech at Lockheed freaking Martin (a company that wouldn't exist without tax payer handouts) talking about the wonders of the "free market". There's not much of a difference on taxes, certain taxes (like the Tobin Tax) are off the table by both parties even though the tax itself is needed an logical. They're roughly the same on monetary policy, both Clinton and Obama are surrounding themselves with the bond market strategy economic team that has destroyed the middle class in the US. It's not to say there's NO difference but the difference is as little as you could get in a democratic system.
Once again, the major media marginalizes and discredits the only candidate (Kucinich) who's policies and past actions reflect the majority of American's values.
Here is a clip of Dennis Kucinich's full response to the UFO question:
http://www.wcbd.com/midatlantic/cbd/news.apx.-content-articles-CBD-2007-...
Even if he did see one, he should have lied about it. He has now made it even easier for right wing pundits to portray progressive candidates as wackos. Damn you, Kucinich. You were doing so well up to this point.
any one notice 'miss piggy' aka chris matthews wanking his little one inch pecker while bashing clinton the past few days ? this guy is really unstable ... maybe he needs a snif of aqua velva or something ...
What ... is the obsession with berating Dennis Kucinich? Why do people say we want change then keep electing the same types of people to office? If we're collectively tired of the same ol' same ol' then why not try electing someone who has a plan for getting our troops out of the Middle east, reducing military spending and putting that money towards healthcare and educating our children?
I absolutely LOVE Jon Stewart, but am totally disappointed he has joined the "Dennis is a loon" campaign and will shortly let him know.
Listen to Dennis. He has a plan.
Go Dennis!
Jim H @ 45:
people like me? you go ahead and support your GOP-lite, corporate candidate.
she is ALL of those things.
the fact that you do NOT know that she supported lieberman, the fact that her Israel platform is identical to AIPAC's, that she is a corporate lackey, etc., tell me that you have no idea what you are talking about.
Who says The Daily Show doesn't provide real news. Here's what we learned: The media are preoccupied solely with horse race coverage and contriving gotcha moments. The press wants The Woman candidate to win, but they'll settle for The Black Guy. The most viable Democratic candidate, Edwards, must be discredited along with the most honest candidate, Kucinich or else they'll spoil everything. The other candidates are thrown a bone to underscore their irrelevance. The more substantive and experienced the candidate - Richardson, Dodd, Biden, Kucinich - the stronger they're cast as irrelevant. Not sexy enough to keep up with The Woman or The Black Man candidate. Hillary, NBC's favorite, provides no substance because she doesn't have to.
justabill @ 56:
of course she is a corporate lackey.
it is just as real as rupert murdoch's hillary fundraiser.
and, as far as preemptive nuclear strikes... she has repeatedly said that "all options are on the table"
again--ALL options are on the table. and since this inhuman tactic has been raised by the insane-neocons, it is a legitimate question to ask candidates. and all hillary will say is that ALL options are on the table. not 'everything but preemptive nuclear strike', she says ALL options.
anyhoo....
I liked Dennis's UFO comment. So he said he saw one. Big deal. Millions have. It's an object in the air, flying, one can't identify. What's so whacked about that? I've seen things that made me wonder too. Haven't you?
You know that was a cheap shot to Dennis Kucinich. Who here among friends have not said strange things. This was never meant to be public. Give the guy a break, maybe he was messing with Shirley or whatever her name is.
AND, that's WHY we love TDS...even us old timers...as long as there are some of our young people turned into JON (who has a better handle on what's going on than the MSM)...perhaps there might be a glimmer of HOPE for humanity...as for the rest of the sheeple they can just continue being conned by CHRIS, TIM, WOLF, FAUX NEWS et al...
Oh! how come that asshole moderator did not ask Barrack Obama about that gay-bashing priest he's been campaigning with. What about that popular video of Hillary denying she knew someone when they have her on video thanking and talking with him. I'd rather have a weird president than straight up fukin' crooked/cheating/lying politician.
EVERYTHING to do with Hillary Clinton feels manufactured and artificial. People said Al Gore was robotic, well that would make Hillary like something right out of THEY LIVE - where the hell are those sunglasses Roddy Piper gave me?
Seriously, if you haven't seen THEY LIVE, add it to your Netflix cue, or hit off Blockbuster, or whatever. We're living what John Carpenter was warning us about.
43 pepper Says:
Thanks for your comments and you made some good points. I just wish experience played a roll in getting the top job. I was on a call and got to ask my questions directly to Hillary about her Health Care Plan. I was impressed and let my friends know she has a good plan. I visited Canada and got first hand knowledge of the health care as I hurt my ankle. Now my daughter is in Iraq so I have gotten first hand information not given to Americans by the Media. One of my daughters college class mates sends me the paper from London and sorry they reported about how the White House plan to invade several Middle Eastern countries long before 9/11. You might not like Bill Clinton but most middle class and poor Americans lived much better then they do today. Bill left office with a US saving now our National Debt is 9 Trillion dollars. I have listen to all the candidates and with respect none are up to Hillary.
I notice the media nor the White House are reporting that they have asked by the White House if Bill and Jimmy Carter will help with the Middle East problem. 43 Pepper I find it interesting that you have so much distaste for Bill yet when ever the current Administration fails in the Katrina Storm and now the Middle East, the person Americans and the White House look to clean up the mess is none other then Bill Clinton. I guess what your saving is things are going find with the current leaders and the ones who are running for office that are clue less but when the United States hits rock bottom just call Bill Clinton to clean it up then treat him like a dog after he's done the job, until you need him again.
lucid fiction @ 1:
You took my line!
He nailed it! As usual.
There are such things are Unknown Flying Objects. Some of the most serious and down-to-earth people I know have seen one, and they are almost ashamed of the fact, because people react like idiots when they hear about it.
wow, that clip made me hate jon stewart.
Madam President 2008. Get used to it.
"Give it up", we'll have to get used to, once again, not having the healthcare system, foreign policy and economic policy that we should because she isn't going to do much of anything to fix what is broken. She'll do just enough to make enough people happy that calls for more fundamental changes will be fended off. Nice argument in favor of her too. Call anyone who critiques her policies haters, the ones she has enough guts to articulate in detail, then tell us to get used to it. Meet your new boss, same as the old boss.
Brando's Bald Head @ 51:
Who hasn't seen a UFO? I've seen multiple. If you haven't seen one yet, you're not outside in the dark enough.
zugzug @ 77:
I've seen a UFO too. But I never "felt a connection in (my) heart and heard directions in (my) mind." Though he has had opportunity to do so, Kuchinich has yet to even half heartedly refute those words from deep thinker Shirley Mclane's book. WTF?
The MSM are having a collective orgasm over Hillary Clinton. On programs like "Hardball," she is routinely the subject of at least 50 percent of the entire show's airtime. Ditto for the NBC-moderated, MSNBC-televised Democratic debate this past Tuesday. I don't understand the basis for this obsession with Hillary Clinton. Is it because she's a woman? Is it because she is the leading Democratic candidate? Is it because she was First Lady? Is it because she is well known? Is it because of the Clenis? When will the media focus on Rudolph Guliani (who, after all, is also very well known and is the leading GOP candidate in all the national polls) to even a fraction of the insane extent that it is covering Hillary Clinton?
Joe Biden is our Dem Nom.
At least he should be.
Why does the corporate media keep pushing Hillary on us?
It's like a set-up for defeat.
Edwards and Obama are fine - but they will lose in the general election.
Hillary is The Most Polarizing Figure I've seen in my lifetime.
Biden is the only one who can take us from this fascist nightmare.
Why doesn't the media push him as the "front-runner?"
No one I know, amongst a sea of upper middle class educated engineer-programmer-socially-aware-Dems, support Hillary.
Why are we being played?
And - why doesn't the media banter about how Bush is the Hitler and Lenin?
And why does the media give credence to his brain-numb authoritarian-worshiping sheepole - his willing executioners?
The rhetoric Bush spewed today should be morphed into an old Leni Riefebstahl Hitler reel.
Why isn't it sexist for a woman to vote for Hillary just because she is a woman? We need a candidate who represents the American people. Is this Hillary? She gave me heartburn double-speaking on Tuesday. I wonder how well she would take it is there were a poll where she was pitted against her husband (if he could run again). She would lose. Casting a vote for Hillary to relive the days of Bill Clinton yore is not the way to go. We need a change in Washington, out with the Bushes and Clintons. I think Edwards met her duplicity head-on. Hillary, you can't be all things to all people. I would like to see a woman president, just not Hillary.
Dirty Laundry Or Republican Talking Points
My outrage concerning the debate did not come from the actual debate. For the whole day, prior to the debate, MSNBC, lead by Chris Matthews, mounted a ugly pre attack toward Hillary Clinton. Not only did he try and discredit her, but he framed what the others candidates should be doing during the debate.
Using truth as his motivator, Matthews enlisted former Clinton enemies to rehash the sex life of the Clintons, falsely reported polling data, and framed the debate to be about other candidates needing to destroy the Democratic front runner. Not only was Matthews show guilty of this bias, but everyone of the other main news shows did the same thing, with the exception of Kieth Olbermann.
Realizing the importance of getting the Republicans out of office, it was had to see the entire panel, minus one, fall in lock step to do exactly what Matthews spent the day framing them to do. On the edge of my seat, I yelled at my TV many times before the debate and during the debate. The Republicans will use every point directed at Hillary to knock the Democrats over the head, and they have the tape to prove it.
Should Clinton win the candidacy, and she most likely will, none of the candidates can pool their support to defeat the Republicans because the Republicans will use the debate tapes to nullify their endorsements.
Everything they said about Clinton will be used to keep the Republican in power and the right wing media knows this. MSNBC devoted time and money to manipulate this dynamic and so did the two other right wing media networks.
Think for yourself, and don't let the hype fool you. Most of the true liberal left can see a lie, especially when it is a Republican one. Somehow we need to call MSNBC on their extreme right wing focus and how they have taking that focus to keep the Republicans in office, directly or indirectly.

...eh ...
You know what they say. "As long as you have them talking about you..."
This is why it's all (s)Hillary all the time.

Seems to me that posters on internet sites have been right about Hillary all along. She isn't presidential, she just wants the job like a 5 year old wants an ice cream cone. Television et al is just catching up. Her own campaign team is responsible for manufacturing the 'inevitable' concept. They're wrong about that too.

Her husband sucked. The actual left in this country spent the entire time protesting him, in case you didn't notice, lost in your fat bourgeois haze. Fuck Off. Billary is an abomination and a corporate sell out. The Clintons aren't even liberal
Look at how polarizing Hillary is. Since the debate all everybody's been forced to talk about is her. The debate caused a national debate about her! Imagine what we would have to go through if she ever got the nomination and was elected. It would be constant warfare with her as the target while others would be forced to defend.
No thanks, I'm going to pass on Hillary.
And here's hoping that Iowans and New Hampshirites (?) do too. Let's get her out of the way early.

I like the use of the meme concept, and agree with it for the most part, but one must take into account the entirely different lives lead by the Soviets and Americans. America is and has been in general a more prosperous place than Soviet Russia ever was. This gave birth to the complacency and...well, idiocy sometimes seen in the American Public (being Canadian, know that I don't hate you guys or any of that garbage). While Soviet life grew worse and worse, and worse, American life is, in a twisted sense of the phrase, getting better. Comfort is everywhere, anything you want you can basically get, and add to that the semi-freedom given the public and the guise of democracy, and that so much is untold in terms of any (not just this one) GOP's dealings in the world and at home. I don't know when it started, or even if it was intentionally started, but the country really is in the conception stage of, as somebody already stated, a very Orwellian government.
And on that, I'll add that Orwell was wonderful, genius even, but I don't believe that his warnings will ever become realities, perhaps precisely because of him and others like him...Huxley, etc.
Truth and education are key.
Contaminated Posting
From reading many of the post concerning this topic, it appears many Republicans have decided to further their efforts to eliminate the Democratic front runner. I note this because I know what a Republican talking point looks like.
The Republicans don't want to see Hillary Clinton in office because they don't want to face the fact that Bill Clinton beat them in two elections, and it appears Hillary will do the same.

Why not? That means the plan lying behind the on-purpose neglect of Katrina worked, which was to wipe out most of the left-leaning demographic of poor blacks, rebuild with soulless corporate business and turn the voting pool in favor of Republicans.
The entire country, however, isn't going to elect a Republican in 2008. They've just come across as too disgusting for a world of reasons.
Also, I don't like the Hillary beat-a-thon from both sides. I think she herself personally would rather not be larger than life, much less for the reasons she usually ends up being so. I don't see ego in what she does. She has the natural power to be a lightning rod but she doesn't behave provocatively. She is not much of a directly active participant in her own bonfire, and that's worth something.
What it's worth is that there is a difference between Hillary as a person and Hillary as a professional. I disagree with a lot of her professional views, but I believe she herself has a human heart and she is not black to the core.
Ineffective and held-back are what I'd call her potential presidency. But her and her husband spent a lot of time coaxing things into the right direction despite the setbacks they often created. The corporate going-through-the-motions reflects that they understand how the world unfortunately works and their only crime is not feeling capable of dramatically changing the rules without ending up losing, and the truth is that no one talking that tough [progressively] has been able to get the results, just excitement from wishful thinkers.
You need somebody who can win favor with the dumb, and then raise the bar for them. Bill Clinton didn't hit it, but look what he would have paved the way for had Bush not stolen the 2000 election?
Give Hillary a break. I think her pragmaticism is luminous. There are better choices than her, but I don't find it incomprehensible that somebody would want her for president...
screw most of you.. i'm voting for her on Tuesday. Why, because she seems capable, she has a plan, and all of this little crap doesn't matter to me. She worked with her husband during his presidency, and this country need health care. After having 2 terms of Bush, i'm going for the safe vote..
Obama brings a lot of light and hope, but that hope is dead for me.. I want politics to be politics agian, not some idiot saying things and hope we believe him.

Yes.. because people running for office shouldn't want the job. Let's not look into the over all proposal and their stance.., let's just look at how much they want it and dismiss them because of it.
I do have a question.. what the heck the criteria to be presidential.. if wanting the job isn't enough.. or being professional about it.. using political influences, or standing by something, while at the same time avoiding general suggestions... then what is? Being able to smile?

I can answer. Being rich and having friends in high corporate places.
For the love of GOD! When will it finally be seen? When will we all finally give a long-belayed - WTF? When will we all finally rally behind it?
We elect people to represent us. They, usually depending on the length of time that they have been in office, represent everything except us - the people that elected them.
I am reasonably sure that the Constitutional fathers did NOT intend for people to make a whole career out of politics. But that is the case in our time.
Worse, we are subscribers to the two party system. If we don't like one, we must vote for the other.
How about this? A third or fourth party? What a concept. In order for a party to get something passed, they must convince a majority of representatives/senators that the idea has merit. Not rely on a party-line vote down that line?
"You propose that I really have to convince all these people that are not guided by the doctrine that my district really needs an extra 10 million that's stuffed away in this completely unconnected bill for studying the mating habits of northern spotted porcupines?"
I am firmly convinced that if we returned to the roots - and the original intentions - of our forefathers, that most of our problems would be solved by individuals that actually would cast their votes in representation of their constituents. What a novel concept that might be. Not heard since the late 1700s. Hmm....
At this point, I really see no reason to vote anymore. We, as constituents, have about zilch to contribute to the political process in the US of A. Our decisions are made by the media, political power brokers, and other inflential people. The average Joe gets to cast a futile little vote that means nothing in the face of these mentioned groups. Hillary will get the nomination; there will be some predictably half-*ss choice for the Republicans. Hillary will get the nod. I really don't need to vote. It will happen regardless. But throw in a viable 3rd or 4th party that actually says that they want to represent you? Might be a whole different ballgame. A representative that actually wants to represent? Not pay back 20 years worth of campaign contributions? What a thought.
well.. if we have a 4 party system.. there could be a chance that nothing would get done... unless we make the system more diverse. Our current system works against itself enough as it is....
