Trent Wisecup--Walking GOP Talking Point--Goes On Leave Of Absence
Remember this charmer?:
When we last saw Trent Wisecup, chief of staff to Rep. Joe Knollenberg (R-Mich.), he was busy blowing a gasket on YouTube and berating an anti-war protestor for following around the congressman with a video camera. [..] It was not a pretty moment, and Wisecup was mocked by MSNBC host Keith Olbermann for his generally unhinged behavior.
Wisecup followed up his on-camera performance with a long recitation to The Crypt of what makes a "true American," as well as posting comments on Fealk's own blog.
Well, it seems that Wisecup has now taken a paid leave of absence from Knollenberg's office, and it's unclear when he'll be coming back.
"He took a leave of absence," said Steven Betz, Knollenberg's field rep, of Wisecup. Betz was unsure of when Wisecup went on leave, but it was about a week after the encounter with Fealk.
Let's hope he gets the anger management training that he needed...maybe a course or two in Constitutional Studies would be helpful as well. We just want you better, Trent.

Unfortunately, as many of us believe, the more this country moves towards fascism the more extreme and violent people like Trent Wisecup become. Pushing and shoving are only the start if we have learned anything from history.
Me thinks his recent conversion to five enemas a day in order to combat his frequent attacks of "patriotism" have maybe done the job a little too efficiently, as he is definitely at a loss for words, subject matter, or grey matter for that matter. His handlers suggested that he take a "quiet moment", sending him to his room, absconding him of his usual duties of spanking the monkey for the party faithful.

Well, no doubt this guy got caught on tape. But I must say, I don't really think it's a good thing to good around and shove cameras in people's faces. The right is very good at that, and, first amendment or not, it sure feels like harassment, just ask that s-chip kid's family. Ending the war is a worthy cause, and maybe getting in politicians' faces is the way to finally get off the dime and force a change, but I can't help but think about the doctors and nurses who work at clinics where abortions are performed, or how much of the entire nation's time and money has been spent harassing the Clintons. Trent presents an ugly face to the camera, but the camera guy does not come off very well himself. Gotcha is hardly the name of the stakes in the game.
I for one really don't give a shit if he gets better just as long as he stays gone; some illnesses have no cure.
When Bill OReilly's folks do this sort of thing, it's called ambush journalism. We watched Keith Olberman do a 4-take hindsight piece on how to deal with it. This guy had one live take. Is there a double standard here?
I don't agree with Trent Wisecup's politics at all but I can't say that I am unsympathic with his reaction to this guy with the camera who seemed equally unmeasured and unarticulate in his own diatribe. No one comes off looking good in this one.

Not sinister or smart enough to mastermind an evil plot, but enough of a shitheel to be a henchman.

I just called and spoke to someone at Rep. Knollenberg's office about the Wisecup incident. Since he's my rep, I really let him have it! I told her to let him know that I think hiring an ignorant goon like Trent Wisecup is an embarrassment to the entire state, and that Rep. Knollenberg should NOT be offering him paid leave, he should just fire him on the spot. I then told her that if Rep. Knollenberg doesn't make things right with this whole embarrassing incident that he won't be voted back into office next year. He's a Bush Rubber Stamper anyways, so he deserves to lose his position.
Call Rep, Knollenberg's office and give him hell for employing such a blathering idiot!

I don't know, I think that the guy holding the camera was more out of line than Trent. I'm a lib, but I really didn't find anything wrong or out of the usual in what he said. Sure calling someone un-American is rude and obnoxious, but it's not out of line or different than anything that the republicans say now or about anyone else. Plus, the guy with the camera is basically harassing the congressman and his staff. You put a camera in somoenes face and start monopolizing the conversation, you're no better than the idiots from the WBC.

I think you're right. I didn't like this video the first time it came up on C&L. I hate this gotcha "journalism". That's what O'Reilly and his minions do when someone doesn't want to go to the Total-Spin-Zone (e.g. Rosie O'Donnell). How can we scold the falafel for what he does - and accept this? I thought Knollenberg remained quite polite. So, even if Wisecup has any other "anger" issues, clips like these only piss people off - and not the right way.
