Speaking of covered up stories, this one is old, but who has heard of it?

The Franklin Credit Union
Child-Sex Ring Scandal
Take Your Victim To The White House As A Guest of the GOP
Lawrence King was no stranger to President Bush. And Lawrence King was no stranger to Craig Spence. Several of the Omaha child prostitutes testified that they had traveled to Washington, D.C. with King in private planes to attend political events which were followed by [CHILD] SEX PARTIES. King and Spence had much in common. Not only were they both Republican Party activists but they had gone into business together procuring prostitutes for Washington's elite.
Bush's name had repeatedly surfaced in the Nebraska scandal. But his name was first put into print in July 1989, a little less than a month after the Washington call boy affair had first made headlines. Omaha's leading daily newspaper reported, "One child, who has been under psychiatric care, is said to believe she saw George Bush at one of King's parties."

I guess it would be too ironic to censor that on a post about censorship.
Whoa....so much to read....so little time!
Any Ideology taken to it's extreme and set in stone without balance and moderation is doomed to fail.. Simple as that.
I started to read a few of these stories, but they became too depressing. I dare anyone to read #1 through #3 entirely and not want to kill themselves or move to another country. The Bush years have proven just how weak we all are.
ScrewBush @ 6:
QFT. Granted, I started the day in a bad mood, but I could barely make it through #1 without my stomach tying in knots and my having to suppress an urge to run to the bathroom to vomit.
Mexico's stolen election? What? Next you're going to tell us our own elections are crooked!
ScrewBush @ 6:
The stories make me want to do something else...and neither involves suicide of fleeing the country...
I don't see waterboarding. Oh wait, that's
'advanced interrogation techniques'.....sorry.

UPDATE 1: FROM THE WATERBOARDING DEMONSTRATION
Karendc called me with the first report. It's ironic that on such a warm beautiful day in DC, they are all chilled by watching the rehearsal of the waterboarding. The victim in this demonstration is Maboud E. He is a US citizen of Iranian descent.
Just watching the rehearsal and knowing that they were NOT doing the "full Monty" they were still TERRIFIED watching it--even though they only did what can be done in good conscience.
Media has gathered to watch the demonstration.
Please feel free to post this live-blog wherever you can.
UPDATE TWO:
Lots of media is there. Code Pink, IVAW, and a group of highschoolers just walked by and got 'educated' about what waterboarding is.
Now they are doing it.
OMG--They have sat Maboud down and begin interagating him.
The police have showed up.
The cameras are videotaping this.
THey have done it twice. He's coughing and it's HORRIBLE to see.
Peaple are really disturbed. It's very horrible to watch.
Intro
You must enter an Intro for your Diary Entry between 300 and 1150 characters long.
UPDATE THREE:
Maboud is ok. He is very shaken up. Water got into his lungs and he panicked. He's talking to the press right now describing how it was. Everyone at the demo is shaking and crying.

Oh stop complaining. There's no room in the news for these issues.

Good on you to point that out. When I mentioned that simple FACT once before on this site, in response to a parroted attribution of the attacks to OBL, my post was characterized as "promoting alternative 9/11 theories" and deleted.

Perhaps Pat left us some words of wisdom.
of course, what should be el numero uno every single year, is the fact that the media is complicit in and controlled by the lovely corporatocracy. so, when one wonders 'jeez, why no reporty?', that is usually the case. of course the corporatocracy doesn't want people to be familiar with the deleterious effects of neoliberal policies, nor the military empire we have straddling the globe, nor the fact that the US foreign policy is anti-democracy, etc., etc., etc....
face it, our information in controlled by and filtered through: general electric, news corp, viacom, disney, CBS, and time warner. they are part of the neoliberal, military empire--thus, obviously, it is in their interest to NOT report on the majority of these issues.
i do have one question though... this is a list of the top censored stories of.... 2008? umm, i don't get it. is it a forecast of what might be censored? i think a more powerful list might be what has actually been censored. or is that what this is supposed to be, and they just screwed up the year? *scratches head*
L.A. Confidential @ 12:
That knowledge is one of the reasons why I find the current political atmosphere quite so nauseating: the acute knowledge that it can (and probably will) get worse before it gets better.
America doesn't have time for these articles, Oprah is having problems. And what about Britney and Lindsey and Paris Hilton.
I've been reading Project censured for a few years now. You guys in Post # 21 have it right. All America should be so disgusted they wish for the demise of the whole of the present administration. Can't happen soon enough.

Sadly, I think that it's high time that Liberals and Progressives arm themselves! What would you do if "w" pulled a Musharraf and declared martial law and suspended the constitution? All for our own safety, of course!

and, what was it that mitt 'i love torture' romney said about the issue of libery and security?
"And I hear from time to time people say, hey, wait a second. We have civil liberties we have to worry about. But don't forget, the most important civil liberty I expect from my government is my right to be kept alive, and that's what we're going to have to do" --mitt romney

ron paul seems like a decent guy, smart, honest, and all... but i see a vote for ron paul as a vote for complete corporatization of... well, everything not already corporatized...
Don't think these things can't possibly be happening, etc. Take a look at Bush's signing statements on laws passed by Congress...
March 9, 2006: Justice Department officials must give reports to Congress by certain dates on how the FBI is using the USA Patriot Act to search homes and secretly seize papers.
Bush's signing statement: The president can order Justice Department officials to withhold any information from Congress if he decides it could impair national security or executive branch operations.
Dec. 30, 2005: US interrogators cannot torture prisoners or otherwise subject them to cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatment.
Bush's signing statement: The president, as commander in chief, can waive the torture ban if he decides that harsh interrogation techniques will assist in preventing terrorist attacks.
Oct. 29: Defense Department personnel are prohibited from interfering with the ability of military lawyers to give independent legal advice to their commanders.
Bush's signing statement: All military attorneys are bound to follow legal conclusions reached by the administration's lawyers in the Justice Department and the Pentagon when giving advice to their commanders.
Dec. 23, 2004: Forbids US troops in Colombia from participating in any combat against rebels, except in cases of self-defense. Caps the number of US troops allowed in Colombia at 800.
Bush's signing statement: Only the president, as commander in chief, can place restrictions on the use of US armed forces, so the executive branch will construe the law ''as advisory in nature."
Reade the last one again and think of Iran. Do you think Bush will wait for or ask for Congressional approval to order a preempted attack on Iran? What hasn't the Bush administration lied about? Why wait to find out?
equilibrio @ 28:
Revelation of facts that belie the official conspiracy theory is categorically different from speculation on alternative theories. The former leads to the inescapable conclusion that further--in this case, a real--investigation is warranted. Conflation of the distinction has been the principal propaganda tool used to discredit skeptics and propel the lie.
equilibrio @ 28:
Ditto.
George Bush as permanent emperor. Roll THAT one around on your tongue and let it linger.
Got my passport...just a matter of time.
No specific mention of AIPAC or the Zionist agenda in relation to many of these stories. I think Israel's abuse of Palestinians and its neighbors sometimes made the list in previous years but seem nowhere to be found this time around. The AIPAC Spy Scandal is certainly big news and while not being fully censored it's still not getting a whole lot of coverage. Cui bono?

And also, kudos for recognizing the story #16.
Bin Laden still not wanted on the FBI most wanted for 9/11. Funny huh?
Godless SOB @ 31:
The thing I find unusual about Musharraf declaring Martial Law is the fact that he referred to Pres. Lincoln actions to justify his own. Does anyone think most Pakistanis will even know who President Lincoln is or care for that matter. This smells of CIA involvement especially considering Pakistans secret service has come up in several 9/11 reports. With CIA backing, the ISI has developed, since the early 1980s, into a parallel structure, a state within a state, with staff and informers estimated by some at 150,000. It wields enormous power over all aspects of government. Parts of the ISI directly supported and financed al-Qaida, and it has long been established that the ISI has acted as go-between in intelligence operations on behalf of the CIA.
Godless SOB @ 31:
We need to do it and do it quick! Before they start rounding us up, then it will be too late.
By the end of 2008 there will be martial law in the United States, and George Bush will be the dictator general. He jokes about dictatorship being alot easier, as long as he is the dictator. Hee Hee hee.
This is serious folks. Take to the streets at risk of forever disappearing. We must stand up for our rights, the constitution, and the belief that we have the power to make the change.
Do not let this election slip by without invoking serious change in today's politics. We need 3rd 4th and 5th parties, that are not formed by neocons and libs not happy with their "moderate" parties, that will destroy what BushCo has created and bring us back to pre Nixon government.
If you know people that are strong leaders and stand up for the rights of humanity, do all you can to put them into office.
2008? So now they're predicting what will be censored. Great way to boost their credibility ;)
Hello all,
I am a regular reader of C&L, and enjoy most of the posts and reading through the comments. I recently purchased the Censored book and enjoyed it very much, especially considering I am a young reporter fresh into the newspaper and journalism world.
However, correct me if I'm wrong, but I've never seen a post on C&L about:
"# 23 Feinstein’s Conflict of Interest in Iraq"
This is actually a huge story, and points out just how intertwined and similar top-level Democrats and Republicans are. Let's be honest with ourselves. These are all people that profit enormously from constant war and corporatization of everything.
I realize this is a lefty site, and there is no problem with that, but let's be even handed about this, shall we, for the best of everyone.
Keep up the good work.
Truth Be Told @ 46:
Ron Paul is asking people for doleouts for his campaign? What a f*ckin lazy commie. Doesn't he know that people can spend their money better than he can?
I've been harping about Bush's militarization of Africa ever since Cnn's so called reporter Barbara Starr embedded with the U.S. military parroted the military's propaganda, and more importantly what she DID NOT say . According to real journalists from foreign sources , the U.S. actually participated in bombing raids on Somalia ; that hundreds of civilians are being killed by U.S. backed Ethiopian forces in Somalia; hundreds of people are being arrested at borders and turned over to the CIA for interrogation ; and you might as well forget the U.S. media EVER mentioning that the U.S. government has interests in controlling African Resources i.e. OIL and Cobalt for example , one of the most important parts of CELL PHONE manufacturing .
But the the one that should be higher on the most censored list is the lie that the pres. of Iran said he wants to wipe israel off the map . Unfortunately he never said it . He never said the words Map, never said the "words wipe off ". To get the REAL translation and not Israeli front operations version , go to professor JUAN COLES BLOG who speaks FARSI . This purposely mistranslated speech IS leading us into WW III and the irresponsible complicit U.S. media will have a lot of blood on their hands .

At Kresge's and Woolworth's
But decadent brains were at work to destroy
Brats in batallions were ruling the streets
Saying generation landslide
Closed the gap between them
And I laughed to myself at the men and the ladies
Who never conceived of us billion dollar babies
Militant mothers hiding in their basements
Using pots and pans as thier shields and their helmets
Molotov milk bottles heaved from pink high chairs
While Mother's Lib burned birth certificate papers
Dad gets his allowance from his sonny the dealer
Who's pubic to the world but involved in high finance
Sister's out till five doing banker's son's hours
But she owns a Maserati that's a gift from his father

The comparison, my friend, is that the entire libertarian argument is based on the idea that nobody needs help from anybody else if only they worked hard enough, therefore if one cannot reach a goal through his own efforts, it must be because he is lazy and does not deserve to reach his goal anyway. Hence the libertarian revulsion towards universal healthcare and education, and social security safety nets. If Ron Paul wants to be president he should pull himself up by his own bootstraps and use his own money.

reyvn @ 62:
Actually I would argue that your assertion above is incorrect. Libertarians are for freedom of the individual to help (or not) each other at their own choosing. Not to be mandated to do so by the state. It does NOT preclude the possibility of people helping each other. Libertarians simply believe that people will help each other (or not) in a way that is actually self serving.
There is nothing inherently anti-libertarian about political donations. If individuals choose do donate, let them donate. There's no lack of liberty there, and it would be stupid of Ron Paul NOT to accept donations.
But, all that said, Ron Paul is not running as a Libertarian. He's running as a Republican.
re: #16 on the list who the f*ck cares anymore? Isn't #2 a lot more scary and a lot more relevant?
Fanon @ 67:
Oh crap, you're right...
In fact, Bush might use public outrage over #16 to trigger #2. I guess we'd all better shut up if we know what's good for us!
Why is Ron Paul even on discussion on this site. He's a REPUBLICAN candidate. Not only that he makes Reagan look like Mensa material.
Eric in Ottawa @ 68:
hee hee. I guess I am just a little tired of having 9/11 shoved down my throat and as a reason to 'be afraid be vrrrrrry afraid". Sorry for the outburst.;)
Nicole...excellent! Posting this! I'm always on that site. Notice #23 Feinstein conflict of interest in Iraq...and NOTICE Feinstein "caved in" (traitor) on the Mukasey vote!
I was also aware of #24, Ahmadinejhad did NOT say "Wipe Israel off the map". Whenever he says something, that's the media saying what they want you to here, to drum up an Iran War!
He didn't say "there's no gays in Iran", either (btw...). Even Seymour Hersch said that he didn't say that.
Thanks for posting excellent, intelligent things, Nicole!
When Ahmadinejhad says something, you must seek out an expert's translation. The CMSM purposely gives you the pro-Iran War talking points.
Fanon @ 67:

What the hell has he been doing with all those hundred-dollar-bills?
Why does our State Department give him the money with "no strings?"
Who the hell was the decider on THAT one?
AConfederacyofDunces @ 73:
I guess you can look at it that way. It's more relevant "because" of 9/11. Or, it's more relevant "because" people won't ever move past 9/11 and remain frightened to death of the boogey man.
And what didn't you get about #65's Wango Tango reference?
Lest I forget, yes, there are more than a couple of dems who deserve the same fate as all the republicans.... Feinstein may be at the top of that particular list...Along with her millionaire businessman husband and all their collective conflict of interest investments... Ya know, maybe half of all the shit we put up with is much less about the politics of left and right and just straight up class warfare purpitrated by the international wealthy against the vast majority of poor and the ever dwindling, in danger of extinction, middle class.. thruout the world. These 25 under ot unreported stories, just examples of that real truth.........JD

kudos to everyone at Project Censored
I've saved all the stories in a file in my computer. I have so much reading to do-- always!! Good thing I like reading, but...
Actually, I read a full page story about our "Buy-in" to Mexico in my local paper. Though I'm far more interested in the Arab "Buy-in" to the US, which also goes nearly unnoticed.) While it's an interesting story I fail to see why there is an impression given here that it was covered up, or even that what is happening is in any way equivalent to unlawful border crossing.
Let's be very clear about this. There is a distinct (and enormous) difference between being an invited guest and being a trespasser, no matter where you go, no matter where you are, no matter who you are.
L.A. Confidential @ 5:
Always has been true, and I suspect, always will be true, because of human nature. Except the getting to the failing part can be one helluva bumpy ride, for everyone!!! And sometimes for a very long time.
ysbaddaden @ 82:
"Is this any more elucidating?"
Not really. My point was simpler: If there is "no hard evidence" that OBL participated in 9/11
then WTF are we doing in Afghanistan and Iraq? I'm kind of a stickler for getting the facts right.
Bush & co. could give a flying f*ck about facts, just pursue their agenda.
The truth about 9/11 is important, I think, as all Bush's justification for his f*cked up policies flow from that event.
...
#16 - There is a big difference between "The FBI did not have enough hard evidence to indict OBL for 9/11" vs. "There is hard evidence that OBL was not behind 9/11." On this one, I tend to take Richard Clarke's word for it.
#22 North Invades Mexico - I've read in more than one reliable source that the NAFTA SuperHighway story is baloney.
#23 Feinstein’s Conflict of Interest in Iraq - I read about this here and there. I think Glenn Greenwald did a post on it.
Wow, #16 wasn't even censored on Crooks and Liars....guess that would be too obvious to go from 17 to 15, huh John?
[The 9/11 conspiracy discussion (MIHOP etc) isn't welcome on this site. The Bush administration's attempt to link OBL to 9/11 aren't part of that discussion, are they, huh daver? Sitemonitor]
i think you are all right
The Aipac espionage investigation and trial is so censored it does not even make the top 25 censored stories. This investigation and upcoming trial have barely been mentioned in the MSM. The so called "progressive" blogosphere has blog clogs when it comes to reporting or even mentioning this upcoming trial. Self Monitoring just like the MSM.
So Telling
Re item 16: If OBL didn't do 9/11, who did? I am so not confused...
Dean Booth @ 89:
You misquote. It's "NO hard evidence," not "not enough hard evidence." And on the basis of this noncase the US has illegally invaded and occupied two countries and slaughtered over a million people.
phayce @ 94:
You're forgetting Probably Cause.
Second, this quote from Project Censored says it:
These stories sound like a bunch of left-wing crybaby utopia bullshit to me. Get real. The world is a dirty, hungry, vile place where bad things happen. Bunch of damned wussies. Ooh, censorship. Guess what? Your neighbor is getting drunk and screwing your wife, cheating the IRS, taking mulligans on the golf course and dreaming of bludgeoning his fat ugly wife with an axe handle. And he frequently pisses on your prized rose bush! But, you're worried about esoteric shit half a world away that you know nothing about and that has NOTHING to do with your life. Fuck off and mind your own business for once. You may be surprised what you learn.
Samuel Abram @ 95:
So "probable cause," based on a "confession videotape," the authenticity of which is highly disputed, is legitimate reason in your view to illegally invade and occupy 2 countries and carry out mass slaughter?
Remember, Tony Blair promised a white paper proving bin Laden's culpability in the attacks, as he recognized the necessity of a high standard of proof as a basis for war. None was ever produced.
daver @ 90:
No, it's not. Free speech gives the writers of the deleted posts the right to say, write, or otherwise express what they wish. By simple corollary, C&L has the right to observe, ignore, or participate in the discussions of their choosing.
Face it: we're all gatekeepers, folks, traditional media, blogs, and audience alike. We read what we want, we express as we desire.
Their are plenty of other venues for MIHOP chatter, so use them. For free speech, it's all in a day's work.
From Federalist Paper #28 written by Alexander Hamilton a Founding Father of the United States:
If the representatives of the people betray their constituents, there is then no resource left but in the exertion of that original right of self-defense which is paramount to all positive forms of government, and which against the usurpations of the national rulers, may be exerted with infinitely better prospect of success than against those of the rulers of an individual state. In a single state, if the persons entrusted with supreme power become usurpers, the different parcels, subdivisions, or districts of which it consists, having no distinct government in each, can take no regular measures for defense. The citizens must rush tumultuously to arms, without concert, without system, without resource; except in their courage and despair.
Men our options are 1) keep complaining and do nothing and become slaves or 2) act like the men we are and rush to arms with courage in our despair while we still have our guns. I say let's start with hanging the congressmen who betrayed us.

Funny that is what the entire world is saying to the United States...Fuck off and mind your own business for once. If esoteric shit half a world away has nothing to do with my life, how come shit that our government does gets people so pissed off that they travel halfway across the world, plan for months inside this country, then murder thousands of US citizens which could have easily been your sorry ass? Look-up the term Blowback then go blow it out your ass.
Yeah, I like the videos on this site, but I'm not sure I'm 100% with the agenda. If your only goal is to keep Democrats in office, then this is a great place to be. If you want to find out the true nature of the two party system, the truth about 9/11, or the way the world really works, you'll have to look elsewhere.
I for one, do not endorse the blind loyalty to one party. If you look at who is funding the candidates on both sides, you will find the same people. If you look at the ct related to 9/11, JFK, OK City, or any of those things that you are not to talk about, you will find they all point to the same people who fund the candidates. At one point in time, this site was a really small grass roots organization. Now, I'm wondering if this site is funded by blog ads alone.
Anyway, thanks CL for the video content. You watch the TV, so I don't have to. But, I'll get my news from elsewhere.
