Michael Moore praises Crooks and Liars: Information, baby!

Thanks Michael!

Arlen Parsa sent this audio in: "Michael Moore (who will be on Countdown Tuesday at 8PM ET) did a fundraiser interview for the progressive indy station KVMR (kvmr.org) in California last week. He mentioned C&L as a great alternative media site."

icon Download | play

Moore: "Once people do have information, once their enlightened, and sometimes that has to start out with a Dixie Chick up on stage saying 'I don't believe what we're being told,' or 'I don't support the president of the United States in this'... That's the way change occurs... bit by bit, somebody tuned in while they were driving along. You know? Somebody goes down I-80, happened upon this Amy Goodman show.

Or somebody picked up The Nation, or In These Times, or somebody on the Internet came across Crooks & Liars, or any of a number of other sites, and slowly-- and this is the good thing about people--because they are now armed wit the information they begin to say 'hey, hey, wait a minute, wait a minute, what? huh?' and before long that 70% that was [for] the war becomes 70% that are against the war and 70% against Mr Bush."

That's how it works....

Cool stuff. Hi Michael M. if you're here reading (big fan here). C&L gets more famous. I voted for you (C&L) over at the Weblog awards. ;) (or whatever they're called-- best blog)

Yeah baby. Good point. Educate them one at a time. If we have the time.

Hi Michael Moore. If you are reading this please consider making a movie on why there is no footage of a plane hittnig the pentagon. Not about conspiracy or controlled demolition. SImply the lack of pentagon footage.

This country owes you big time mr. moore. Thank you!

Love ya, big man.

so WHO exactly is the 40% who flip flopped on imperialism??

what was the new evidence??

Michael Moore and Crooks & Liars make entirely too much sense for the Neocons to swallow them. They prefer disreality.

Congrats C&L

Hi Michael,

Please continue making movies and bringing the truth out in them.

I'm familiar with the medical field and my wife is a nurse supervisor. She constantly brings home stories that confirm items that I saw in "Sicko" a while back.

We need more truthsayers like you. Keep up the GOOD WORK. and
THANK YOU.

Begin Michael Moore trashing now...

Go, John, Go!!! You're hitting the big time!

How much cash did you slip Moore to plug your site, Amato?
Joking, but you got to wonder how many other influential media people out there frequent C&L.
Keep up the good work to all the contributers and moderators, this site is helping to create positive change in dark times.

Truth, like an object at rest, cannot be stopped!

kulshan @ 5:

I think-Correct me if I'm wrong-polls showed an unbelievable amount of people-70% were for the war in 2002. I say unbelievable, because I think the numbers were fudged, or the phraseology of the questions was such that the results were skewed.

Now it's 70% for getting out of the occupation and illegal endeavours in The ME. Still not enough. I think the evidence is the best at hand-the polls.

Michael Moore's point is well taken. All too often people are satisfied, or are persuaded by the various pundits, to accept what one sees and hears in the mainstream media as being true and to not question the status quo. A case in point is an article in today's USA Today written by pro-war enthusiast Jonah Goldberg who is overjoyed because the recent wave of anti-war films have not done well at the box office. The last thing that someone like Goldberg wishes to see is for the American public to think and to question why this war, and other wars, are fought because that would mean examining and analyzing the consequences that these wars bring about. Fortunately there are people and outlets, as Moore indicates, that are willing to go where others fear to tread.

"Democracy is commin!!...to the U.S.A"
-Leonard Cohen

p.s. Late night music post?

I dont think the war numbers switched because americans suddenly woke up, I think much of it has to do with people wanting to associate with winning. If we won and every day was an orgy of flowers and a new democratic triumph, theyd still love it regardless of how we got in.

Similarly if the good news starts to roll in again, so will the war popularity figures. Its less principle than bandwagon jumping in my opinion.

KVMR carries Travus T. Hipp's Morning News, an alternate news report on world affairs every day.

Travus used to work for a radio station in Gilroy California called KFAT. It's current incarnation KPIG also broadcasts his news, but he also does a commentary for them which I archive to archive.org daily and post to my site with his kind permission.

Here's an example, from today, at my site, with links:

[November 06 2007] Travus T. Hipp Morning News & Commentary: Paying Tribute To C/SPAN For Allowing “The Pigs” (from the ’60s vernacular) To State Their Case And Show Us Who They Are…

Truth cannot be stopped!

Euhm, maybe I should remind you of the Bible, the Kuran and all those other 'truthy' books out there that have been selling like hot cakes since the beginning of time as we note it and are still believed by way too many today.... The truth may go around fast, but the lie is all that will ever last. Why you ask? The lie is easier to find and pays a lot better. The truth is: we can't handle the truth, we're not ready for the truth, we're too stupid to see the truth and too lazy to find the truth,... unless it's on crooksandliars ofcourse. I love you guys! Love you even more Michael!

I personally would like to thank sites like this, but especially THIS site for waking me up to reality. Thanks.

As a former Michigander, Mr. Moore is a truly an icon of the Great Lake State.

Moore reads C&L on a daily basis.

Right click (assuming windoze) and DL one of the files... it's never too huge... The play links don't work for me.

I found C&L in a link on MM's website years ago. He linked to you often back then, might still don't go there much. Just a tip for other C&L's, be sure to check out rawstory.com, another great site.

As for Moore's comments, he is dead on. The Repugs have done a great job of saying "liberal media" every time they get a chance, a tactic which works. Meanwhile the "liberal media" is continuing to print White House talking points and corporate friendly "news" to keep their advertisers happy.

Only the informed are angry. We should ALL be really really pissed off right now....

Ignorance really would be more blissful :-)

Keep knowingly and willfully bringing the misinformation Michael. You bring a bad name to true progressives in this country.

Who the *#@% is Michael Moore!?!

C & L is a great site. I suppose a plug from anyone is a good thing. But I wouldn't brag about this one.

Mike Moore has more integrity in his left nut than the whole of BushCo. Lying liars and the delusional liars that love them.

I don't think even Mike could spin that story into any longer than a few minutes, bless him.

There's no footage (other than the security cameras) because no-one was filming in that area at the time and unlike the centre of NYC, there aren't large numbers of folks with camcorders surrounding The Pentagon.

If you're wondering why there was no wreckage larger than a car door, there are plenty of sites explaining what reinforced concrete will do to flimsy aluminium impacting the concrete at high speed, and if you're wondering why the engine being recovered in the infamous photo was so much smaller than the engines you normally see slung on a jetliner, go look up the term APU (or Auxiliary Power Unit). The short version is that it's a small jet engine mounted in the tail of the aircraft, just large enough to keep auxiliary systems (electrics and aircon) running without needing to fire up one of the main engines. Any larger pieces of wreckage would have ended up inside the building, and would not have been removed until long after the area was sealed off.

I hope that answers your question, but back on-topic : Kudos John!

Amy Goodman, Crooks and Liars, The Nation...yup, that about covers it for me.

That's all very interesting and oddly comforting; I don't REALLY want to believe that the Pentagon was hit by anything other than a plane, ghoulish as that is in-and-of itself. But I am perplexed that our government won't just say that, true or untrue, and at least try to give us a story we can believe, rather than just, "Shut up, tinfoil hat people". Telling us to move along just isn't cutting it. So absent that, once again I am forced to wonder if a) our gov't is a lot of prevaricating buttheads b) or if smarter people such as yourself should be working for them in the place of an unnamed nitwit.

Roger and Me. The whole movie was a fruitless attempt at getting an interview with big bad Roger Smith, right? Well actually he did meet with Smith on at least one occasion before the film was completed (probably more than once). He didn't reveal this in the movie and apparently a movie coming out called "Manufacturing Discontent" (made by two young former fans of Moore) will feature the footage of the meeting in it's entirety. Don't get me wrong, I'm not some idiot Ditto-head, I just think that Moore and Limbaugh are opposite sides of the same coin. There's tons of other examples of his heinous idiocy. That's just the one that stuck with me...

OK, then let's see the security camera footage.

Michael Moore said that there are hundreds of Pentagon cameras. Good enough for me. Let's see some footage. If a person drove a car into a mini mart the serveillence footage would be all over the news that night. Give me a break. Stop explaining away and let's see the footage. We will let that speak for itself. So far it has been silenced. Again, Please Mr Moore, choose this topic. No controlled demolition, no conspiracy, just go after the pentagon footage. The missing pentagon footage will not ask any non experts to become an expert.

Thank you!

If I'm a simpleton that you sir are a complete psychopath. Go take some money out of your trust fund and by a pair. And don't breed, we have enough crazy on this planet.

Jim Lehrer: "The bloggers are talkers, commentators, not reporters. The talk-show hosts are reactors, commentators, not reporters," he said. "The search engines can search but do not report. All of them, every single one of them, have to have the news in order to exist and thrive."

I read this today, and thought Lehrer is really in denial. News, ESPECIALLY TV NEWS, has to have the AP wire, newspapers, written press releases, and public relations officers to exist and thrive. The bulk of tv news comes from those sources. Well, the public, bloggers, have access to those sources. A place like Crooks and Liars lets the concerned citizen bypass the often idiotic filter of television. A tv reporter can't deliver like this site. The big news organizations should be panicking.

There actually is a great difference between a Goldwater Conservative and a neo-conservative--I am neither, but acknowledge that if Goldwater Conservatives were in charge of the U.S. govt instead of neo-conservatives, we (the USA) would be in a lot less trouble than we are at present.

I think MM does the wrong thing for the right reasons. He's a propagandist and a good one, but there are better ways to get the truth and rally support than to do what he does (see: Gravel, Franken, Obama, Ron Paul). This can be an agree/disgree issue but I think he does exactly what he protests against (use deception to mislead). Politically he's closer to me than Fox news but their methods and intent (to me at least) are the same.

I lived in Arizona when he was a Senator, and he made a lot of bizarre and somewhat scary neo-con-like statements, which, except for the local papers, didn't get a lot of national attention.
After he retired, and when his grandson came out of the closet, he started to sound somewhat reasonable. Granted, compared to the neo-con nutjobs who dominate todays republic party, he seems almost sane, but that's just because the party has gone so far to the right. But don't give him more credit than he deserves during his political career, because it was pretty extreme (for it's day).

Michael Moore does a service to America by bringing America's attention to stupid Americans. BUT, and this is a but, he only does it for money people. That's it. No other reason. He's paid quite well to do it. He tried stating in one of his books that he only owned a VW Beetle for crying out loud, yet lives in a rich suburb where even the maids don't drive VW Beetles. Why does everything have to be so black or white with Americans?

There are a bunch of media personalities that are checking this site daily. So many times I hear talk radio hosts, Olberman and others basically quote a story on C & L that almost verbatim. And a lot of these stories are not that popular on the blogosphere. Basically, if you're not going to youtube to find a clip of something you heard about somewhere, you're probably going to end up at C & L. Great job always guys.

No criticism intended seagull. He used to say things that made me doubt his sanity. After his retirement, apparently free from political concerns, he actually sounded like someone whose ideas could have some appeal. Funny how a gay relative drives these people rightward while in office, yet they become more tolerant afterwards. That is where I lose respect for the right wing. When they have power and influence, they use it to promote intolerance, yet after they're out of power they want everyone to forgive and forget that it's just politics. As an aside, his wife used to take her gold Coupe deville to the gas station next door to the auto parts store where I worked with the license plate:AuH2O.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not some idiot Ditto-head, I just think that Moore and Limbaugh are opposite sides of the same coin. There's tons of other examples of his heinous idiocy. That's just the one that stuck with me...

Anybody know if there's any truth to the Halliburton stock issue? To tell you the truth, I'd love a piece of that stock, I don't know why the right think that's so hilarious.

1. Did the idiots who produced said "evidence" present any proof of it. That the meeting (assuming it isn't pulled out of the air) took place BEFORE Roger and Me. We don't know any right wingers who lie or anything do we? I'll believe it when I see it.....besides even if Moore did add a little theatrical flare and hide that Roger had actually met with him, does that invalidate any of the points in his film?

2. I've seen all kinds of the "debunking Moore" shit........pretty much across the board it's half truth, faulty logic, specious (sp) reasoning...typical right wing shit right off the Rush Limbaugh show......I saw a big deal in one of their little films about how the guns on the bank walls actually weren't real (no claims were made or implied by Moore that they were), or how the dismembered soldier pictured in 9/11 hates Michael Moore (Irrelevant). Again, the only thing that I have ever seen them able to make stick is that he will tell for the sake of a joke, a tiny falsehood like the KKK/NRA thing.....I'm aware of another but it is unverifiable one way or another.

3. I've seen the Haliburton thing. If it isn't manufactured out of whole cloth, what possible reason would he have for directing investment (in his charitable trust....not for his personal benefit) into that company? One that he is in a nutshell accusing of corruption, et. all. I would say that is just about the OPPOSITE of insider trading. ....tearing down something that you have invested in. If in fact his trust did own it, I SUSPECT (To the extent of my knowledge he has never made comment about this) that it was either DONATED (possibly by a repentant fan of his films who didn't want to gain from "blood money"), or he naively hired someone to manage that money and failed to instruct them to only invest in accordance with his social views.

Be assured......I'm a stickler for facts and logic. Moore's (with the joking exceptions mentioned) are impeccable.............conversely, Rush Limbaugh who you compared him to commits a logic error (a form of misleading deception.....very prone towards the "strawman") or lies about every thirty seconds.

I actually found Crooksandliars through Michael Moore's website.

Good times.

Michael Moore breaks his silence about this corrupt administration

I hear C&L quoted quite often on radio and TV, the more the better. Love this site!

As usual, Michael Moore seems to be getting his best ideas from me! I've had a very high opinion of this site for a long time. :-)

Thanks for posting. Exactly what I was discussing earlier #51
This should be the make or break question to '08 candidates.
Can you get us the pentagon footage? Why not?
Nobody has to be an expert of melting steel, etc. No one has to accuse anybody. Not attacking any ones politics. Just get the footage. If not, Why?

We are the worser for not demanding the video.

Thank you site monitor for leaving this dialogue up on this thread.

Well stated. It appears to me also that the documentation for his films is backed up by facts and statistics, as when in Sicko he cites the WHO study which lists the U.S. ranked 37th in terms of health among countries around the world. Many of his critics will rip into Sicko, for example, because he gives examples of countries which employ socialized medicine, that dreaded term, despite the fact that the basic health needs of the citizens in those countries, unlike here, are met. One would also find very few people in Canada or the UK or France or Germany or the Scandinavian countries who would trade their health plans for that of the United States.

You aren't going to get an argument from me

Bravo John and Bravo Mr. Moore. Your both awesome.

I'm not even a liberal and I was against the war and against Bush from the beginning.
I've known for the last 3 years that all the so-called blunders and mistakes by the Cheney administration in Iraq
were not. They were calculated and foreseen. We knew the fired Iraqi Army would be fighting and
killing our troops. We also knew that the unguarded weapons dumps would be raided and that the
explosives would be used against our troops. They were used as live bait for slaughter for the purpose of extending
our presence in the region. The acronym OIL stands for, you guessed it,...oil, Israel, geopolitical leverage... courtesy
of Ray McGovern.

Way back when (before the invasion of Iraq) I listened to what was going on and I knew we were being misslead into a war that we had no business going into. The people I worked with had no idea that Afghanistan and Iraq were two different nations, or could keep Bin Laden and Saddam separate in their minds, so I had no support in trying to discuss what was about to happen and trying to stop it in someway. So I looked on line for someone, anyone who saw it the way I saw it. I tried reading the comment sections and found links to sites...that's how I found Crooks and Liars. I found all my favorite sites and copied and pasted these sites and supporting arguments to other comment sections. Slowly, over time, the tied shifted, from being overwhelmingly pro war, to "yea, wait a minute people!" Thanks Crooks and Liars...you deserve the award of best video site..you really do.

I was unable to see Sicko at the theater. So I have been waiting patiently for the DVD, well it came out yesterday and one of the first things I did was run down to the local big-box store and bought it. Well I'm glad I was forced to wait. Not only was the movie right on, the added video was well worth the 20 bucks. For those who saw the movie and want to see more including the right wing reaction to the movie should rent buy steal or borrow this DVD.
If this movie doesn't change the direction of healthcare in this country than we've been sold out to the capitalism above everything else crowd and the only thing that will change that is a complete revamping of the whole system. A depression that nearly collapsed this country is the only reason we have Social Security. The right wing has been chipping away at the reforms that were enacted during the Roosevelt admin. with undying devotion, like privatizing Social security etc.
I'm watching CNN right now and they are showing the story of an apparently successful operation on a little girl with a parasitic twin, in India of all places, I'm not knocking India's apparent advanced medical ability, but I'm sure this family couldnt possibly come up with the hundreds of thousands of dollars needed to have this operation done in this country, without fundraisers or the medical community volunteering pro bono. would an American Insurance co. actually approve such a risky and expensive operation or would they prefer their CEO's and stockholders make bigger bonuses and dividends? Well I think we all know the answer to that.
