A Navy Interrogater: Waterboarding is torture!
Bush has turned the GOP into the party of torture... and there is no spinning that!
A Marine Corps lawyer told a House subcommittee Thursday the Pentagon blocked him from testifying that harsh interrogation methods tripped up his prosecution of a suspected terrorist.
The accusation came as the debate over detainee treatment continued to affect Michael Mukasey's nomination as attorney general, with lawmakers struggling to come to a decision on when a confirmation vote would be scheduled. ------------
Meanwhile, a former interrogation instructor for the Navy said the words that congressional Democrats wanted to hear from Mukasey: waterboarding is torture and should be banned.
"Waterboarding is torture, period," Malcolm Wrightson Nance, a former Navy instructor of prisoner of war and terrorist hostage survival programs, told a House constitutional subcommittee. "I believe that we must reject the use of the waterboard for prisoners and captives and cleanse this stain from our national honor."

Ah...The America represents the moral high ground!
Maybe Congress will get together and pass a low that makes waterboarding illegal. Bush can veto it and show more of his true colors.
The big problem is getting anyone in Congress to grow balls to do it.

Number of Operations Iraq Freedom and Enduring Freedom casualties
as confirmed by U.S. Central Command: 4298
More Democrat failure. You'd think they would have lined up former vets and interragators to tell the country that waterboarding is torture.
Instead we had DIFI and chucky screw this country over with another constitution denier
Uhh, I think Schumer and Feinstien turned the Dems into the party of torture as well (as well as the six dems that voted for Mukasey). They are complicit in Americas crime's against humanity.
yup, it is.
of course we didn't a 'navy interrogater' to tell us this (although for political/legal reasons it is a plus).
and why call it 'waterboarding'?
it is water torture.
Why does the Navy hate America?
Democrats say waterboarding is torture all the time. They just don't seem to want to hold the leaders directing the torture to account. Their morality's fine.
Some are just wussies, which is a different weakness.
Someone else brought up a great analogy:
Murder is against the law, but the law doesn't say anything about be shoving my cell phone down someones wind pipe SPECIFICALLY so it is not illegal for me to kill someone that way.
That's about the gist of the Repug argument, isn't it?
NAnce gets big credit and big balls to say WTF!!!.
In SERE we do it to our own , to show what to expect when in custody of "the bad guys" WE soldiers are fighting and dying to prevent that type of activity.
Then these elected fascists look at the program and say, "Hey if we are already doing it to our own...why not do it to the bad guys"
The fact is you f'n morons who made that decision, never had to worry about getting captured and having it used on you...Thanks the fuck alot!
Give him Hell Nance.
and throw another reason to begin the impeachments.
(Now if only a court will legitimize Watada's refusal to deploy as legal, instead of the technicality of mistrial, we can start sitting down..)
By all accounts it is safe to say that this is the information age. So why the fuck does our government have no information what so ever? Kids have no health care, but we have resources enough to have a debate on weather or not water-boarding is torture? Maybe somebody needs to tell Bush about wikipedia.com. That way he can learn that water-boarding isn't some new age sport found in the X-Games. I hate to use wikipedia as a reference, but I have to remember that the leader of the free world is a simpleton. Read what wikipedia has to say about our latest embarrassment
The reason why the Navy et al subjects trainees to waterboarding in SERE school is because they want US troops to know what it is like to be tortured.
Ugh, people are so short-sighted! Do you all honestly think that waterboarding is the only type of torture? Let's expand our scope to include ALL torture, not just one method. We as a nation were built on high moral standards, and I'm appalled at how quickly we let those standards devolve. Didn't the first settlers come to America to escape a similar sort of oppression? It's sad and depressing, but we're about an inch from becoming Nazi Germany. And we all know how Nazi tendancies tend to run in the Bush family... Just do some research on Bush's grandfather, a Nazi sympathizer. Now do you all see why there's such a similarity between the Nazis and the Republicans? It's because they're using the same playbook! The only reason we don't have 50 million dead YET is because we haven't yet reached that stage, but it is coming. And when it does it will be We the American People who are responsible for all that death and destruction. I'm already mortified at what we've done in Afghanistan and Iraq.
the repubs love to torture people that aren't white. Their Michael Douglas in "Falling Down" angry white guyism knows no bounds
Congress has now shown its complicity in war crimes. When the lawmakers themselves ignore, defy or plead ignorance to the laws of the land, WE ARE FUCKED.
Bush = terrorist. Has any one realized that yet??
As a 20-year veteran of the Army and Army Reserve, I'm seriously ticked off that it's the NAVY taking the high moral ground and speaking the truth! C'mon, Army -- you need to man up and disavow torture, too. Don't let some swabbie show you up!
This COUNTRY needs to "man up" like jmike said to show the boy king and the rest of the world that we're no longer going to sit idly by and watch this once proud nation - the envy of the world -sink into oblivion.
Go away Busholini and take your "legacy" with you!!!!!
"National honor." Wow, I remember what that was like.
Why is there even a discussion about this country using torture??? Yes, yes, it went on all the time, I accept that. What I don't accept is that it's now national policy. This country is headed straight down the tubes if it keeps this policy in place.
Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, I'm looking at you...
This is now moot because "I am not sure it is torture" Mukasey has been confirmed.
Why am I the only one screaming about the fact that there was no filibuster?
The vote was 53 - 40. Those voting against confirmation if they had been serious had more than the 2/5s needed to prevent cloture. In other words, there was no way to break a filibuster,if those voting against confirmation were serious about it.
Good luck sailor, good luck marine.... I wish I could say I was optimistic that you gentlemen will have more success than any of the other whistle blowers in any other venue has had...(Think this telcom/guv-mint domestic serveillance for years business with an insider spelling it out last week to congress only to be ignored)....
Yea, I wish I could be that optimistic you guys could shame congress into facing up and taking action to stop it all, not just the water torture but all the various torture methods, (Just is indigowatcher@12 indicates needs done...and I agree with that accessment)....But I can't be that optimistic now.. Not anymore...
I've watched stunned time after time these last seven years as 'we the people' are continually being punked at every turn by the very government representatives that supposedly works 'for us'....but doesn't... Nevertheless you two military gents bring honor to yourselves if not your service branches by your attempts to raise the warning...and at least calling it what it is..Good luck...........JD
Murder is against the law, but the law doesn’t say anything about be shoving my cell phone down someones wind pipe SPECIFICALLY so it is not illegal for me to kill someone that way.

Poor analogy. Is not about how you kill. It's about the act of killing. Poor analogy.
jmike @ 16:
The army has Watada and his successful trial to show Iraq violates the whole pre-emptive war concept right?
I don't think the other services have that yet..
O rly?
We all know this. The question is, is any of this sinking in with the 28%? Or are they happily in oblivion as long as they have lots of junk food and a remote control?
When Americans watch the first American captured by the enemy and then waterboarded we can thank our Law Makers and the White House. Look for this to be the new policy all countries follow as US has lead the way to torture and waterboarding as being legal. As McCain about torture as he was tortured as a POW now he supports having our troops and any American tortured by the enemy.
Water boarding isn't Torture. It's a sport,,,,,,,,, Like snow boarding.
Senator Ted Kennedy is the real expert in water torture. Just ask the Kopechne family.
By the way, our friends the Islamofascists don't torture Americans. They just behead them
and show the video on Youtube. In case any Lefty, Code Pink loving, America hating Moonbat has forgotten,
remember Nick Berg, Paul Johnson, and Daniel Pearl. Those Americans were treated with such
dignity and respect by Al-Zarqawi and his fellow travelers. By the way, those 3 were civilians, not soldiers.
Good for Nance. My sentiments exactly.
Edwin @ 24:
edwin,
See Frank @27 for your answer.
Frank @ 27:
So tell me Fuck...I mean Frank...so you would like to be considered on the par with someone willing to behead an enemy?
Frank @ 27:
What!?! nothing about the Clenis? Vince Foster? Whitewater?
How about Laura Bush's dead boyfriend...I mean as long as you're digging up ages old deadly car accidents.
lleave it to the navy to speak the truth!!!
only some moron would say waterboarding was not torture
Frank @ 27:
Frank, I agree about Ted. Power and money block justice for members of both political parties. The "logic" of let's torture since "they" behead us leads down a very slippery slope. The Japanese "owe" us a couple nukes dropped on two of our cities. Can the first be on your town? No, that's not logical is it?
The real torture now is to the citizens of the U. S. trying to comprehend the reasoning of the Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches of this government. Why none of these branches are for the people! Boggles the mind.
This can work to are advantage, since our own youth will finially see what war is all about, a mindless waste of flesh, and they will resist going into armed forces. If there is a draft. It will not work fucking dumbshit congress. You are the terrorist MFRS.,
