Bob Schieffer's commentary on this morning's Face The Nation was a tongue in cheek indictment of Pat Robertson's puzzling endorsement of Rudy Giuliani.
Schieffer: "Finally today, back in 2004 when Pat Robertson said that God had told him George Bush was going to win the election in a blowout, I decided to check it out. Now, I've never claimed to have inside information on God's thinking, but I did reach a source who considers himself very close to the lord. He agreed to talk on the condition of anonymity since he is not authorized to speak for God. Well, the way he told it, Robertson must have had a bad connection or just didn't hear it right."

Robertson should turn to his true calling in life: Teaching others to dance with The Devil.
Oh dear. Bob better get out his prayer cloth, I think the evangelical spin machine is about to go biblical on his ass for making fun of their religious leaders.
Bet he even hates Holiday Day...
Cute, but pointless. He could have commented on something that really matters.
The old Buzzard, (Schieffer), has finally gone senile. Robertson is about as religious as I am, he's always been in it for the money and being close to power. Now in a desperate bid to remain relevant, he has picked Rudy because he believes that he will get the nomination and what way to better influence your target that to arrange for them to be hugely indebted to you?
Far be it from me to pretend to know the mind of God, but I suspect that God wants nothing to do with Pat Roberston. Just a hunch.

And here's Rudy's Quid Pro Quo:Now Claims 9/11 Caused by Pontius Pilot

Old Bob should be on every night instead of soon-to-be gone Katie.
coleshack @ 4:
Agree with coleshack. Sheiffer could have actually done something with that last 60 seconds. Instead, he chose to be glib. BS is just one more MSM journalist passing into irrelevance.
Paul @ 6:
You think? ;-)
There is NO god, so any charlatan like Robertson can say whatever he wants and say god told him. It is funny how in the courts when someone says god told them to do something, everyone rightly assumes they are nuts, however when some self-proclaimed religious leader does it it is OK.
Guiliani is the worst possible option (worse than Bush). It doesn't matter if he is seemingly completely the opposite of Robertson on most of their religious issues because those issues are just propaganda to divide us against each other. These so called leaders job is to keep us fighting each other so we don't have time to realize they are enslaving us. Time to wake up.
Cute.
Who is Santa endorsing?
Meanwhile- in the real world- King of Spain told Hugo Chavez to 'shut up'!
I agree that Schieffer could have focused on something else besides the fraud that is Pat Robertson. However, since he brought it up Pat Robertson's "God" must be dumber than a box of rocks. I mean, everyone knows that the elections in 2004 were really close so there was no "blow out" for Bush as Robertson claimed. Robertson has been consistently wrong about everything so I suppose that means that "God" must have either deliberately lied or Robertson must be pulling crap out of his ass and presenting it as the word of "God". Personally, I think the latter is true. Why anyone actually believes anything Robertson says is beyond me.
I wish Pat Robertson would tell us what God has to say about rain for the SE.
The unfortunate thing is Robertson's endorsement does matter.
Schieffer's source is Brian Wilson?
I'm not sure Robertson's support of Giuliani is so puzzling.
The theocrats are facing marginalization within the party that has, for a while now, mistaken them for a huge, indispensable base group. Moreover, they know that the Republicans are not likely to control the White House come 2009.
They need to prove to the party that they still essentially control its fate (which they don't). Those who are pretty sure the Republicans are going to lose are considering bolting to a third party so that they can claim post hoc that their having bolted was the reason for the loss.
Robertson -- no stranger to cynical manipulation himself -- is just making a different bet. He thinks Giuliani has a better chance of winning the nomination than the candidates he would rather support. So, he's endorsing Giuliani in the hopes that, when he wins the nomination, Robertson will claim that his evangelical voting base was the reason for the win.
The Reverend read the polls and checked with his political connections and simply wanted to be with the presumptive nominee from the beginning to enhance his "access." No more complicated than that.
I love it! Schieffer has been taking lessons in hip from John Stewart and Stephen Colbert!
hadenuf @ 16:
I m sure Pat will say you are being punished by god
Who IS this God that Patty Robertson worships?
Lord Walsingham to Assassin Priest in Elizabeth
Pat Robertson must be like one of God's rainy day friends. Someone he'll catch a movie with if he's really bored but otherwise avoids for months on end because he's irritating. And I kind of wish he'd develop a closer relationship with God real soon now, and go visit the guy permanently. 'Cause we're sick of him here.
ciu @ 23:
Robertson is a c*nt who owns a slave-labor gold mine in Africa. His phony, fear-of-sexuality-based morality dovetails nicely with Giuliani's authoritarianism. This is fascist psychology, on display. I want to produce a set of posters, beginning with Justin Volpe's mug shot, with a recurring theme of a toilet plunger with a bloody handle, and the tag line "GIULIANI? NO!" And Giuliani's connections to Taser, Inc. are self-explanatory and disgusting.

For many of you, appears the both far right and left have a recessive form of a sense of humor gene.
Come on folks...it's a joke.
It wasn't God, it was the 5 Republican appointed activist judges on the Supreme Court who told Robertson they were going to play God by throwing the election for George Bush.
Karen @ 19:
That's the way I see it too.
hadenuf @ 16:
Up here in the liberal northeast we have had a moderate summer, plenty of rain and a beautiful fall. God just told me that is because Jesus is a liberal. God also told me he would send rain to the southeast when the red staters quit voting for Republicans who are killing his people and destroying his planet. God also told me beware of Pat Robertson for he is doing the devil's bidding. I asked the good Lord was George Bush or Dick Cheney the anti-Christ to which the Lord responded, "Who said there was only one, they are both the anti-Christ".
Don't call Pat Robertson reverend.Hypocrite is a better description of the moron.
Different Anonymous @ 3:
I'll even fire the first shot on behalf of the reich wing theocratic crazies: "Bob Schieffer wants the terrorists to win and wants to convert every American to Islam. Anyone who would question and ridicule a multi-millionaire diamond mining Christian reverand who actively calls for the assisination of heads of states and who fleeces his flock at every turn clearly must hate America "
Pat Robertson is a high priest of America corporate fascism and knows which side his bread is buttered that's all simple as that...
Bush and Karl Rove used The Pre-Tribulation Rapture Cult in the same way the Nazi's used Aryan Mythology..
It's classic use of Myth to move the social order towards inhuman acts they would otherwise be revolted by..
Robertson, Dobson and Hagee et al are the blaspheming heretic descendants of the same hypocrites who persecuted Jesus of Nazareth..
Just as Himmler was obsessed with the Aryan Mythology and employed blasphemous ceremonies so do these vile usurpers of all Christs wisdom and message of Peace , Humility and Forgiveness...
It's clear Giuliani believes in nothing but power and how to abuse it...
When it comes to religion, and the charlatans like Pat Robertson who profit from it, George Carlin says it best. http://youtube.com/watch?v=MeSSwKffj9o
Take a look at history, be honest, it wasn’t till lately this past decade with the hook up of the Internet that many of us have had the opportunity to sign in and express serious concerns in our American culture. Today, Mainstream Media is feeling the tide of public action changing.
Transparency, truth about Secret Intelligence is flushed out into the open Americans across the spectrum are demanding open public hearings. Secrets that have been kept buried are challenged now for their judgment. Those in the know most of those secrets are made to profit rather than to serve America, and do not defend the Constitution. America lost one of the basics of oversight, in the first amendment, to be able to address our grievances was long time political Constitutional right leaders have failed to recognize. In your life time and mine a truthful understanding of history and a challenge to the judgments of all these secrets are paramount. True the collateral damage is going to be great but will develop governing principles that enhance rather then condemn self governance.
Water-Boarding is such an example as part of these secrets that have been done, it screams out at everyone adding to the frustrated stress. Here we all see American culture slipping into a dark time. My God how could this happen we say to ourselves. Or, if you don’t believe in God it is just openly wildly crazy. I’ am disappointed as many of you are, but within the last few years begin to understand a whole lot of Americans are easily persuaded by Mainstream Media that has held a grip seizing a serious condition. Here Corporate interests and political profiteers understand this and openly manipulate those sensitive Americans who really honestly only have the capability of a short term memory or twisted understanding of history, yet crave the leadership televised by a wrenched connection. It’s fortunate that millions of Americans are honest and hardworking other wise we would have mass chaos. What is a horrible cruelty and perhaps as bad as Water-Boarding are those in the know take advantage of these open hearted Americans. Those television Evangelist.
Not long ago, my parent’s believed if it was said on radio or television it must be true. Ironically, we know now, it’s not always true, more over sadly it’s a useful divisiveness exhibited by the Limbaugh’s and Hannity’s, the Pat Robertson’s, the Lou Dobbs, Chris Mathews and host of pathological well paid propaganda sounders. Many work under two shields, one the first amendment. And the other, those IMUS contractors that seal agreements to create controversy yet claim to be independent. Oh, let see these independents walk away from those fat pay checks, never happen bucko.
From much of what we now can consider very professional educated intellectual elites just spend time scrambling minds to convolute issues to a very deceitful political end. It’s all shameful and frustrating to watch those windowed political analyst on split screen television, or round robin discussions, especially the one on one. The message here from me is to keep the faith, and for us in this blog to pound out daily the truth because as one professor had said “ even those buried truths will eventually come out so history will be known because of the Internet, there is no stopping it’. For those who understand that, it is the real terror and fear that is the cause of our current dilemma. For those in society that get caught in the direct effort committing crimes against the Constitution in an” inherent way” is the surprise. Of course the Bush family, and the Neo-Con’s wouldn’t want that, they and their whole genealogy would be tracked from this time forward and posted like “Constitutional Pedophile’s”. With a cackling belly blasting LOL wouldn’t that be something, yep, its already happening.
WOW ... !!! ...These people want to be President of the United States and they are hearing voices and Talking to god ???
Oh, wait ... We got that already.
Pray for and end to Theist in government !
kudos to Scieffer for going after the rapture bunny and serial groom
This guy seems to have a sense of humor and some wits...
I wonder why he didn't get the CBS anchor chair?
Bob in Thailand @ 35:
There is nothing wrong with Theists in government the is a major problem with clowns who claim God spoke to them told them to perform a specific act especially when it said act is in conflict with much of the doctorine in their own faith.
jr @ 36:
I perfer to think of them as Mr. money changer and cousin lover.
swarmofkillermonkeys @ 37:
No Tits?
I'm thinkin' that like many of passed a certain Bob has old man tits, methinks his ascension to "the chair" was a perceived lack of perkiness. In Bob I mean, not in his...well, you know.
God Bless....
Well that endorsement just cost the republican party another 10% of its members. They are down to about 10% now. Just a few more smart moves like this one and they will be giving up the last 10% of supporters.
Pat Robertson's endorsement of Giuliani is only a surprise if you assume that there is any reality to the Republican pretense of religion. If you accept the truth, that Republicans care about nothing but cutting their taxes and serving the rich, and that so-called evangelical Christianity is nothing but a sham to distract from their true interests, it makes perfect sense.
For droll humor, acerbic wit and spot-on analysis - it just doesn't get any better than Bob Schieffer.
You young'uns ... take notes!
God Bless him, the ol' buzzard has still got some snarkiness to him,
but let's focus on some real issues, Bobby - we all know Pat is a joke.
George_Metesky @ 25:
Edit this, ass__le
[It's much easier for me to ban you instead. Have a nice evening-Sitemonitor]
BS is still struggling to be relevant. OK, I'll byte!
Sheldon Spencer @ 13:
I wouldn't worry too much about Guiliani. He doesn't look healthy to me. I would be more worried about who he chooses as a running mate. If he should win (yick), probably Mitt Romney will be finishing out the term (double yick).
