Mike's Blog Round Up
Greetings and salutations, sirens and scalawags. Melissa McEwan, Professional Not-Phyllis Schlafly at your service once again, coming to you live from the Annual Convention of Women Who Value Personal Autonomy and Frequent Hairstyle Changes. My conference schedule is full of Not Being Ann Coulter and Not Being Bay Buchanan, so I'll get right down to business:
Libby reports on the epidemic of suicide among war veterans, especially those just home from Iraq.
Jon Swift had no idea that that the world of competitive Bridge is a hotbed of anti-American sentiment.
Molly Ivors has issues with the latest pile of poop MoDo calls a column. Bean has the same problem. Don't we all? And won't we, until Her Majesty of the Anti-Feminist Jackassery just goes away?
Elle, PhD finds yet another reason to dislike David Vitter—and this time it doesn't have anything to do with the hooker who's a doppelganger for his wife.
Konagod says he's old enough to remember when a billion dollars was a sh*tload of money. (Don't let his youthful exuberance fool you. He's old enough to remember when a billion dollars was two sh*tloads of money.)
The Dark Wraith wants to know how you feel about the Democrats. (Right now, "I am very disappointed in the Democrats; however, even though I think, overall, they're a bunch of spineless cowards, at least they're my spineless cowards, so I'll support them in the 2008 elections because anything is better than letting the Republicans get control, again." is winning.) Creature says he's been burned one too many times. Yeah, I've been feeling a little scalded myself.
And some Quick Hits: Dare We Hope? … Keep Your Church out of Our State … Quirks and Quarks … Joe's joe v. Jane's joe … and it's Nap Time for Dick!
Seeya tomorrow! If you've got any hot tips, email me at shakespeares_sister at Comcast dot net.

Speaking of Vitter....where is Larry Flynt with his additional outings?!!
I gave up on Maureen Dowd a long time ago. She takes herself way to seriously.
I realize this may be off topic, but I just ran across this piece featured on Yahoo! News and I just thought I'd mention it. It appears that theres some well heeled redneck from Oregon who, having become fed up with all the gloom and doom on the nightly news, has set out on his pony to find the "real" America. Here's the link:
http://tinyurl.com/24pqo8
And here's a quote from our intrepid cowboy:
Bill began his trek after growing weary of the daily media drumbeat he thinks is too focused on war, crime, poverty and assorted social ills.
Oh yeah, right. Don't do your part to stop the war, ensure every American has healthcare or a decent paying job. No, don't do that; just get on your pony and ride around looking for dittoheads who feel just like you do. I'll bet you dollars to donuts he won't ride his pony into places like Detroit or Flint, Mi., Buffalo, NY, Oil City, Pa or any of the other places allowed to rust and crumble under the weight of massive unemployment and poverty brought about by the mass exodus of manufacturing jobs. No, pay no attention to any of that. You know, I never thought I'd be able to say this literally, but fuck him and the horse he rode in on.
Thanks Shakes.
C'mon, round up this:
There is still time for you to Join A Fox News Focus Group
I think it would be good for Fox News to start getting opinion data that more accurately reflects the nation’s view of politics, government and the world. Here’s our chance to help them see the light.
Mark @ News Corpse @ 5:
Oh, that would be sooo sweet! But you know what will happen? The minute they start getting wind of what people like us think about FOX, they'll have security give us the bum's rush.

pissed off patricia @ 2:
or not at all. I think she has made absurdity her personal niche and left ridiculous to brooks and nagourney. I believe she's intentionally trite.

kudos to Molly for taking modo to the woodshed
Les Moonves, head of CBS, is really disappointed that Katie Couric is doing so poorly.
Insiders say he had been heard to scream:
'Goddammit, we can sell all our other crap, how come we can't sell Couric?'

Nuff said.
[We passed that around among the site team. I was going to post it myself-Sitemonitor]
Thanks so much Shakes Sis!
One Question: Who the hell is MoDo? You don't say in the tease, and neither do the two blogs that refer to her. I can't keep up with everyone's pet names for each other. Is it too much to ask, man that crap is frustrating.

lefty27 @ 25:
They are talking about NYT columnist Maureen Dowd.
Cheney falling asleep in public? Isn't that what Reagan used to do? I foresee an Alzheimer's defense to war crimes...
Excellent Expose'!
You're not Phyllis Schlafly? I feel so used. ;-)
I read Ivors' good piece yesterday. Can't have enough MoDo takedowns.
Good other stuff, too. I've been reading/hearing a lot on the veteran suicide thing, and it's just brutal.
Speaking of Anti-war Republicans, here is a clip from this morning's edition of C-Span:

"Nap Time for Dick"
The term Dirt- comes to mind for some reason .... hmmm
mo_dems @ 11:
Very cool - I hope it hits us soon.
[Off topic-Sitemonitor]
How do you like that?
mo_dems @ 39:
Oh jeez, i was making reference to the Cornelius Cardew article "Stockhausen Serves Imperialism" in which Cardew argues, in part, that John Cage's principles of "freedom" in music is actually harmful to the working classes since it fails to acknowledge the struggles of the common people. I am studying John Cage and I've been seeing similarities to Ron Paul, probably going to write an paper on the topic.
And the comet thread is on topic? whut effah.
That sad, sorry Maureen Dowd (MoDo) is still pitching that same sorry idea (men don't like smart) that she wrote in her book, published 2 years ago this week. It is now available on Amazon for 1 penny.
