Last night L.A.-based friends, family and colleagues of Brian Wilson got together to celebrate his selection by the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts for their 2007 award honoring men and women who have made enduring and unique contributions to popular culture. December 2 the Kennedy Center in DC will present this year's awards to Steve Martin, Diana Ross, Leon Fleisher, Martin Scorsese and Brian Wilson. I was so inspired by the party last night that I rushed home and put together this little slide show for one of his greatest compositions, a song that sounds on the surface like a cool little pop ditty but that is complex and musically breathtaking. "Good Vibrations" may be the most beloved song Brian Wilson ever wrote but "Surfin' USA" will always bring me back to the first moment I ever heard it. What's your favorite Beach Boys song?
