Rudy Giuliani: Mr. 9/11
By John Amato Sunday Nov 18, 2007 5:01pmWow, the NY Post hits Rudy over his touting of 9/11...And I thought he said he wasn't running on 9/11:
Rudy Giuliani is trumpeting his leadership in the wake of 9/11 in campaign mailings to voters in Iowa and New Hampshire. In one piece, Giuliani is hailed as "America's Mayor" who displayed "Strength through Leadership.
Giuliani has repeatedly challenged accusations that his candidacy is based solely on the attacks, saying during a recent debate, "The reality is that I'm not running on what I did on Sept. 11."
NYers will not let him get away with this.
"Giuliani is running on 9/11 and portraying himself as a hero. It's disgusting. It's horrible," FDNY Deputy Fire Chief Jim Riches said. "This guy will do anything to get elected."
"He's misleading voters and distorting the truth. He didn't prepare the first responders for a terrorist attack. The Office of Emergency Management was a joke that day. There was a lack of communication. People died unnecessarily."

Is this a misprint? Did you mean to say The New York Times?
Rudy Guiliani is the only candidate qualified to prevent the next 9/11 because of all his experience preventing the last 9/11.
The only question I have is, what will he do if the terrorists decide to attack on some other date? I wouldn't put it past them. Sneaky bastards.
Greg @ 1:
Nope. It's the Post.
Hey, JasonS, that was funny!
Exactly what did Rudy do on and after 9/11 that was so heroic??
I know he got paid to do some speeches and tried to cancel the elections but what was heroic??
Ah, he paved the roads with rubble containing body parts, that is his "legacy".
He made sure the evidence was disposed of quickly!
Roger from Ohio @ 5:
He made his buddies rich by signing a 5,000 year (embellishment) lease in the WTC for NY's command center when he was strongly advised not to. Does that count?
Why does America care about the next President, but will do nothing about this President? This Presidential debate/campaign season is surreal. Its a distraction from the real issues which need attention: Impeachment.
Who cares if Giuliani is focusing on 9-11; Americans aren't focused on this President. Even if Giuliani were to violate the law, why would he believe oversight will mean anything?
Dr. Matt @ 3:
Seems like some news organization got a conscience over the way Rudy is using the tragedy of their city that killed thousands. Can we expect more of this from someone like FOX News? I kid, I kid.
noun,verb,9/11....or put another way, ass, lyin 9/11....
But really I kinda like the it the other way around.. verb, noun 9/11... or lyin, asshole, 9/11... something like that... you get my drift..JD
Rudy is always looking for credit for others work. Leech times a trillion
The very fact that Rudy is claiming that he's not running on 9/11, should immediately disqualify him.
That's ALL HE TALKS ABOUT. His entire campaign is built on what he supposedly did on 9/11. He manages to weave in a 9/11 reference no matter what the topic is.
To deny that fact is a complete joke.
Bush: Al-qaeda, Al-qaeda, Al-qaeda, Al-qaeda, Al-qaeda, Al-qaeda, Al-qaeda...
Giuliani: 9/11, 9/11, 9/11, 9/11, 9/11, 9/11, 9/11, 9/11, 9/11, 9/11, 9/11, 9/11...
People: We're fed up, We're fed up,We're fed up,We're fed up,We're fed up.....
SHOCKING!!!
Greg @ 7:
He was so "brave" when he turned down the 10 million from the Saudi Prince who criticized American foreign policies.
....actually, I'm not kidding...I have heard reich-wingers cite this as evidence as why Rudy is a "strong leader".....
what people don't know there were more than 2 planes that tried to ram buildings in new york that day but it was rudy who stuck up his hand like a great shot blocker and deflcted those other planes into the hudson river. then time and time again he kept running into the burning buildings to pull out survivors. i don't know why the msm won't report this.
Sorry.
Rudy's all about 9-12. It's Groundhog's Day for him.
Not that he really gives a shit about anything other than capitalizing. If we had a smart Dem frontrunner, he would be cut off at the knees already. Joe Biden knew what to say. (Not that I care about Joe---he's a DINO).
We should call him "The Jerk": "Nine dollars and...ELEVEN CENTS!"
That "fund raising idea" (taking donations in that amount) was more crass than most George Putz's photo ops.
What?!?! Eighteen comments, and not one tin-foil-hat post about how 9/11 was a government conspiracy?!?!
Progressive Pragmatist @ 19:
That's over 6-times longer for a reich-wing blog to bring up Clinton in a given thread.
Talking Points Memo has a pretty good post on this with a video of Guiliani mentioning 9/11 a countless number of times.
I can't believe that the scumbags at the NY Post actually called Rudy on this 9/11-mongering. They're owned by Murdoch and usually pretty Murdoch/Ailes party line. Isn't Rudy the official Presidential Candidate of the Fox networks?
Stus @ 22:
They are going to state that this is "proof" that Murdick is independent and not pulling for Mr. 9/11.
"Mr. 9/11": National tragedy becomes nothing more than a campy trademark....how very Madison Avenue. Christ.
And of course the corporate/repiglican media is doing all it can to create lies upon lies, spin upon spin, deception upon deception to get this drag queen installed as the next president. was just listening to that utterly deranged buffoon called matthews on SLUTBALL and his 'power rankings' which are of course his own invention. this stupid little corporate pig just said that guiliani is not only rising in his make believe power rankings but that this emerging story about regan/ news corp/ fox news/ roger ailes makes GUILIANI EVEN STRONGER, THAT ITS' A PLUS FOR HIM BECAUSE HE DISMISSED IT AS MERE GOSSIP. yep, the GE CORPORATE MONKEY CALLED MATTHEWS actually said this on his show .......... this thing called matthews should, in conjunction with his fellow GE ROBOTS called russert and williams, should be charged, tried, and convicted of criminal fraud committed against the american people, and frog marched out of the protection of thier corporate studios and right into jail. once there they of course would be used AS THE BITCHES THEY ARE.
I would just like to THANK the FDNY and the people of NY for not letting this guy get away with his lies and distortions!
THANKS
Many of your loved ones would not have died had they heard (over their no-bid contract Motorola radios) the call to get out of the (S.)tower(s) and we should all do our part to never let him forget this betrayal!
Please. ANY mayor of ANY city that endured that kind of attack would have hit the streets and offered comforting words to anyone who'd listen.
Giuliani has been a disaster pimp ever since 9/12.
Just remember, the Saudis hit NYC on Rudy and Bush's watch. WHy? Because the Saudis own those two bastards and they knew they wouldn't retaliate against them- instead they'd go after the Saudis' enemies ...like Saddam.
sheesh,it's.so.clear...he.presided.over.an.AFTERMATH...he.didnt.prevent.anything..
he.gets.'credit.for.how.he.handled.the.aftermath.but.what.about.preventing.it?
now if he.had.stopped.the.terrorists.then.he'd.be.elected.easily...but.no...
Odd. Something tells me Newscorp is taking that Judith Regan lawsuit seriously and maybe this is the first in a scrambling effort to put together a defense.
Hmmmm...
wilderness wino @ 26:
well said wilderness wino.
According to my NY friends there is much more to tarnish his heroic claims and if he wins the nomination there will be hell to pay when it becomes public. Hillary is cunning and her machine holds the cards that will wipe Rudy out. JUST sit back and watch.
Rudy Giuliani is the worst. I hope we are smarter than to elect him President. And I think we are. Go Obama. He leads the latest polls in Iowa. Woo Hoo.
KarenZipdrive @ 27:
Ghouliani is a disaster pimp and a 9/11 whore. Maybe if he had spent more time planning and reviewing for emergencies, and less time planning for trysts with mistresses,
there would have been less dead heroes on September 11.
That photo on the caption certainly captures his essence. Absolutely creepy.
... and tonight (Monday) Chris Matthews gave Rudy a COMPLETE PASS on the whole issue, opting instead to dwell on the fact that Rudy's campaign had gone to THREE NASCAR EVENTS this year. BFD! Matthews did briefly mention that a town hall meeting (I think in New Hampshire someplace) was scheduled to call attention to the fact that New Yorkers and expecially FireFighters are continuing to expose Rudy's culpability for mistakes before 9/11 and utter failure in leadership after... but then he DROPPED THE WHOLE ISSUE like a hot patato... and went to the NASCAR footage. A COMPLETE WHITE-WASH BY ANOTHER MSM-RUDY-CHEERLEADER.
I hope Keith Olbermann does a better job of exposing the issues surrounding Rudy's 9/11 lies and incompetance.
Taking a play from the Rebulican "Guide to Smear While Smelling Your Best", maybe it would serve us best to have the true Heros, i.e., Fireman, Police, Doctors, EMS, et al come together to form a formidable group demanding the truth be told. I know...probably wouldn't recieve much air time since there are so many other "important" issues for the candidates to respond to besides the truth.
KarenZipdrive @ 27:
THIS deserves REPEATING... and REPEATING... and REPEATING...
KarenZipDrive... you are right on the money.
Greg @ 7:
In all fairness *snark* he did get a $100,000 campaign contributing from Larry Silverstein in return.
Once and for all, Giuliani did nothing out of the ordinary after 9/11. It is easy to lead in a crisis. Your choices are clear, your advisors are all in agreement, your tasks are simple. It's when there is no crisis that decision making gets tough - it's hard to tell what problems are the most urgent. Indeed, it's sometimes hard to get agreement that there are problems. Giuliani succeeded at the easy thing, but failed at the hard thing. Example: police and firefighter radios.
According to FDNY firefighters Rudy kept pressing on with the search and rescue efforts until the gold of the Bank of Nova Scotia was recovered. A day later, he suspended the search and rescue operations. I suppose in that respect, Rudy is a hero. A hero to the bank.
Did. Absolutely. Nothing. Extraordinary.
How does being in NY on 9/11 morph someone into an expert on terrorism? Are his supporters really that stupid?
Two words:

That video of Rudy on talkingpointsmemo reminds me of being a kid and saying a really neat word over and over and over again. I found that after...the 40th mention of the word to myself, the word literally drove itself out of my head and i could no longer say it for awhile. God only knows how much practice this man has at saying "September 11th". Never in my 27 years on earth, have i seen a person so willing to whore out the deaths of thousands for his own ill gotten gains. With that, to have the gall (balls is not a word I will ever mention in a sentence with Rudy) to write a book called "Leadership" is absolutely absurd. As Karen put it, it is extremely easy to go out and tell people you feel awful for them, to console people who desperately seek consoling. I think maybe thats why Rudy makes such a big deal out of 9/11, it was so difficult for him to put on the illusion that he actually gave 2 shits about his fellow man, when in reality he had nothing but contempt for him.
Rudy will give us the wars the international bankers want and need. He'll throw red blood to the faithful, and the "people of faith" will viciously devour the red meat he throws, showing their true predatory nature. He will kills thousands more Americans, and most important of all to the "People of Faith," he will gloriously torture and murder MILLIONS of Muslims.
The American economy will go to hell, but who cares? The Rothschilds, Rockefellers, Bushes, Murdochs, and their ilk will reap BILLIONS MORE in the disaster zones caused by nuclear war, global warming catastrophes, and the
re-institution of slavery, er I mean "guest worker program." Blackwater will be there to helicopter the rich to safety, while thepeople God hates, er I mean middle class folks, struggle and die mired in post-Katrina like conditions. This is the New World Order.
Mr Disaster Pimp, er Mr 9-11 will save the day for the 1/10th of 1%.Hey Rudy, when is the next 9-11? - you seemed very well informed about the first one before it happened!
Maybe we should waterboard Rudy. The clock is ticking and he knows when his freedom-hating buddies are going to attack again. I give him about 30 seconds. Any takers?
what do you expect from a criminal? the truth?
Rudy...Rudy...Rudy...oh wait, I think I did hear something about this jagoff! Yes, he's the one who appeared on Larry King and, whilst pounding his fist on the desk and with a look of theatrical rage, commanded the need to bomb Iran and do so now! He also promised this would happen the first week of his Presidency if he were elected.
Yes Rudy, you are 9/11 - you're also an asshole who won't make it past the primaries. And you can thank your pals George and Dick for sending your party down the toilet.
I am 9/11 - SHUT THE HELL UP, YOU WEASEL!!
"Jesus, protect us from Rudy.
(As you failed to do with George W. Bush).
Lord we beseech thee."
This is my prayer.
"I walked around my city in front of a camera, and pointed to a catastrophy that was made worse, due to my incompetent administrative decisions to put the cities rescue-control center in the once already attacked World Trade Towers."
"Make me your ruler!"
The man is truly a monster.

What sort of leadership did the Zero of 9/11 exhibit?
I mean, exactly.
"Hey, everybody. Better run uptown. And fast"?
Giuliani really is 'Mr. 911 (without the slash)'.
Can you imagine a more threatening, impending disaster?
Not running on 9/11? HA! His people constantly seek out rescue workers at Meet & Greets here in NH, to get face time and photo ops for Rude-y. Biden is right, "...a noun, a verb, and 9/11. That's it."
There is one thing that republicans consistently do, and it can be depended upon like clock-work.
It's as reliable as the sun rising in the morning and setting in the evening.
They profit on human suffering and ignorance.
And that sums them up in a nutshell.
They are parasites, feasting on the blood of the innocent.
I should know. I spent several weeks as an active member of the young republicans, in my younger days.
I got to meet several politicians (they paid a lot of attention to me because I'm black), and even met, and was incredibly unimpressed by, G. W. Bush (met him at a formal event, and thought he was a drunk crashing the party.)
Never in my entire life have I EVER met a more morally bankrupt group of people.
NEVER, EVER.
They seem to regard people as disposable, or even worse, wish to stand upon our broken backs.
When G. W. Bush was elected (more like stole the election, and blatantly, at that.) I was horrified. Really horrified.
I wake up every day, wondering just how bad things can get.
These are terrifying times.
AND LET'S KNOW AND REMEMBER THAT JACK WALSH HELD A FUND RAISER FOR DRAG QUEEN GUILIANI AND GUESS WHO ATTENDED: WILLIAMS, RUSSERT, AND MATTHEWS ... THE NEW AXIS OF EVIL
This is the guy we want the Democratic candidate to run against. He's his own worst enemy.
impeach Bush and Cheney is first and foremost. this crap has gone on long enough. how long before the country reaches its breaking point? at this rate, it is scary to think about. giuliani is a complete moron and i cant imagine that people actually think he would be a good leader. unbelievable really. Ron Paul is the only republican hopeful that has any form of sanity and good ideas.
I think that you have to put it in perspective. On that day - Sept.11,2001, WE ALL needed SOMEONE in charge! Our president was
whisked away to who knew where! We were terrorized! I know I was. Mr. Guliano was THERE - he spoke to us he let us know all that
he knew. We depended on HIM for the next few days for knowledge and support for calming our fears! We are not all DUMMIES! We
know that the Firefighters and Police and EMS workers were IN THERE - DYING giving their lives for others; but Rudy Guiliano will always
be, in my eyes, the epitomy of our Countrys' cohesiveness in adversity; there, when we needed someone to empathize and help us
through an unbearable, unbelievable tragedy. He deserves my appreciation and he will always be the most calming, caring person,
who didn't run to the sidelines and look on, from a distance; he went in there, down there with the true heroes and never tried to
take away from those TRUE HEROES of 9-11!! I am not talking politically, I'm not even in his party, but I think he is being attacked
unfairly by people who have let time dull the HORROR, confusion and surrealism of that day!
peg Volz @ 57:
Wow. Just wow. I think you took a left turn when you meant to turn right. People died on 9/11 BECAUSE of Rudy's actions. He put the command center in the world trade center. First responders had non working communication devices. And so on.
Its all very understandable, and its about time that a news-paper has actually printed something of relevance. 9/11 is undoubtedly one of the most tragic days in the history of our country, and the fact that Giuliani was in the city of New York when many of our leaders weren't is commendable. Dark, disatrous day, and he at least of all the other leaders, such as our President, at least tried to make a difference. Yes, perhaps the outcome didn't come out as clean and crisp as we would have liked, but in a situation like that, how do you determine whats the wrong action and whats not? I would assume that everything is way too chaotic. There's no time for precise planning. People want leadership, and they want it quick, and he did the best he could (At least I hope he did). The fact that the HQ was placed right in front the towers is encouraging to me. Why? I think it stood as a beacon of light. Everyone was there that was trying to help, and people knew exactly where they were. Shows the strength of our resolve, and I do believe it to have been a good move. I do not condone the fact that hes riding the coat-tails of this 9/11 tragedy, but he should not be neary as discredited as some of the comments on here have done.
As for your words on the President... I cannot defend him anymore. The more I say in defendance of him, the worse he makes himself look, and the less I have to value about him. Its wrong to oust him, especially since he is our leader, but as such our country should not be in the position its in. We should not be steps away from war with several countries other than Iraq, and we should definitely not be in a position where we should have to question our leaders. Something needs to change, and it sure as hell won't be Washington, therefore I'd say its up to us to do the changing.
