Wow. Fox News says "Blogs are Biased."

This is news? Blogs? Biased? From Fox!?!

Tell us, Eric. Who writes your screen titles? And are they completely lacking in shame, or self-awareness?

I guess Rupert Murdoch bought both their shame and self-awareness and threw them in a chipper.

Wow! Fox News telling the truth for once!

Should have known that it would be in a situation where they're shamelessly calling the kettle black.

Maelstrom's picture

It seems that considering Fox's stance on just about anything is a waste of time.

Granted, we ostensibly can choose which stories to read and follow (and hence ignore Fox News as we see fit), but their oversaturation in the blogs seems to frame the debate around attacking lies rather than promoting and developing constructive ideas. Criticism is good, but actually providing alternatives is necessary for any sort of payoff.

Johnny2Bad's picture

Ok, bluegal, Fox is biased. Got it. And I get the deep irony. But blogs are biased by definition so I hope you're not suggesting that its any 'less true' simply because Fox sez it?

(Wait. Did I just defend a Fox show?? Ooooo.)

Like Fox News would know anything about being biased... ha! Just another phony news station that lies to support Bush's phony war on terror. I now understand why Rush called the solders "phony". Anyone fighting or supporting a "phony" war must be "phony".

And be careful what you say because the truth is libelous speech. All hail Faux Propaganda.

That was kind of like watching the fox argue with the coyote about who should guard the hen house.

I general, blogs are as much of a joke as the MSM - or worse!

At least with blogs you know where they're coming from - but sadly, they're largely poorly written by people who know as much about grammar and journalistic honesty as they do about real politics in the US.

All info sources have their shortcomings - it's up to the poor sods like me to sift through the partisan mumbo-jumbo and try to come out with at least a little understanding of the truth.

Clip should be added to any dictionary description of "pot calling kettle black."

How about the comment on the difference between blogs: Whether you're Newshounds hating on Fox news or Newsbusters and picking on the liberal bias that's out there." And then go on to discuss the relevance of TMZ (a celebrity gossip site)?

Except there's one huge difference here:

Blogs don't exactly try to hide their bias, at least not many of them. Most are pretty blatant with if they are conservative, liberal or whatever ya know?

Fox on the other hand...

It's fucking IMPOSSIBLE that they're THIS out-of-touch.

No Blogs are record keepers of Fox & cohorts misleading and false statements like Gibson keeping the lie alive , that Valerie Plame sent her husband to Niger , instead telling the truth that she was NOT a manager or supervisor and did't have the title to send him ANYWHERE .
EVEN , EVEN if she did that doesn't change the FACT , Saddam wasn't trying to get yellow cake , didn't get yellow cake from Niger and as the British press reported , there's a WAITING LIST to purchase yellow cake , that makes everybody wait for years .

Answer this ,does anybody really think if the media Murdoch labels as " liberal" (even NECON William Kristol admitted it's a MYTH ), was conservative and completely pro bush , Right wing Murdoch , Right wing Alies , and the rest of the right wing at Faux would be any less conservative then they are NOW . HELL NO , they'd still lean to the right with propaganda promoting Bush polices and supporting the republican party . The Faux flag waivers wouldn't have any reason to be really fair and balance , for any reason .

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, right wing talking points have a right wing bias. Given that the right wing has far greater ownership of the media, TRUTH has little chance. In balance, why should truth have any inheirent advantage over right wing talking points anyway? TV is today's reality. Own the TV outlets, and you own reality. REALITY!

Who the hell is the blond bimbo? What an embarrassment, even for Fox. Her idea of a news blog is TMZ and I'm sure her favorite news show is "Entertainment Tonight." The "liberal media" lie can be put to rest by asking one question: If the mainstream media was really liberal, why would Republicans be trying every dirty trick in the book to ramrod more media consolidation down our throats? They want to make the liberal media even more powerful? Yeah, right.

It would not have been quite so pitiful if they would actually talk about right-wing bias from time to time but I think that people at Fox News think that is an impossibility.

You guys aren't translating the word "bias" from Wingnut to Moonbat. In Wingnut the word bias arises when personA, presumed to be a Wingnut, listens to a messsage from personB. PersonB is "biased" if personB is less of a Wingnut than personA from personA's perspective. Whenever a wingnut says, media source MMM is biased, what they mean is that MMM might be less right wing than they are, thus they cannot be trusted. Some examples:

WingnutA says: CNN is biased.
Here WingnutA is saying that CNN is less right wing than I am.

WingnutA says: the Weekly Standard is an objective and unbiased source of foreign and domestic policy news.
Here WingnutA has conceded that the Weekly Standard could be either as right wing or more right wing than WingnutA perceives even himself.

WingnutA says: Brian Williams is unbiased.
WingnutA has conceded that Brian Williams is at least as right as WingnutA is.

It's the token eye candy for the show. Her pitiful little comments included stock footage, which means her lines were rehearsed and probably spoon fed by the production staff. There's smart hot (think CBS's Laura Logan) and then there's stupid hot - like this blonde here. Stupid hot is kept on a short leash. While she was working on hair and make-up, the production team was working on how to work in a little bit of Entertainment Tonight into the show.

Cat Atomic's picture

That was fascinating. There's a fleeting moment (at 2:55) where the host starts to wander towards an epiphany, then seems to recoil from it instinctually.

He comments that TMZ is the only blog that has become a TV show. His entire frame has been that blogs are, for the most part, a liberal phenomenon and their affect on the media is to push it to the left. But then he acknowledges that the only blog that's found corporate support (a TV presence) is a right-wing blog.

He's right on the cusp of understanding that it's not "liberal vs. conservative" but "populist vs. corporate"... that big money actively pushes it's agenda with the media it owns. Then he just pulls away and goes in a new direction.

It really reminded me of something Orwell wrote about doublethink being 'intentional stupidity' or something to that effect.

oswald's picture

I didn't think that discussion was very controversial. And the screen title didn't read "beware of liberal bias". Of course, blogs are biased. They reflect the political views of the individual or community that produces them. Nothing wrong with that. Crook and Liars isn't biased left? LGF isn't biased right? That's actually one of the redeeming qualities of the blogs- you know what you are getting. Relax everybody. That was a fairly innocuous discussion by Fox standards.

There is a real anti-democratic character to all of this. That hack at the end saying that "this puts an awful lot of responsibility on the viewer of these things to decide what is actually true" (paraphrased) is a perfect example. Shouldn't people viewing, listening or reading news take responsibility for what they believe? Should people be wary of accepting anything as true anyways?

Of course most blogs are biased, but so is Fox News. I think what they are really worried about is that they realize that they aren't much different than a Vlog, but they wish to maintain the illusion that they are actually attempting to run an objective journalism outfit. I don't think anyone is buying it.
