Mike's Blog Round Up
More blog links from Bob Morris of Politics in the Zeros (where I blog about antiwar, global warming, Left politics, etc.)
Subtopia, the amazing "field guide to military urbanism," has the scoop on the migrant detention center being built at Gitmo to house 10,000 people in case, y'know, there's a boat crisis or something.
Hawaii activists convinced a sugar plantation to burn sugar cane scrap to fuel an ethanol plant rather than coal. Using local biomass is way more carbon-friendly as it eliminates shipping coal from the mainland and the traditional burning of cane in the fields - and also saves the owner money. So, everyone wins. We need more solutions like this.
Ecosocialism joins green with red, saying we need new economic structures to deal with global warming and peak oil.
4th Generation Warfare is the military doctrine that says small, non-state players can damage and sometimes defeat much larger, more powerful forces - something with direct relevance to all manner of conflicts today.
And who would have guessed My Boyfriend is a Twat, her hilarious (and totally workplace safe) blog, would turn into a book?

THE US EMBRACES OPEN SOURCE WARFARE?
The Reagan Doctrine...
Al Hubbard, Bush's Economic Adviser is leaving the Sinking Ship of State, after guiding the U.S. into economic hell. The country lies in ruins after this 7+ years of the totally incompetent Bush Administration.
If it is possible to take back America it will take years to get her back to health and restore her good name.
xiotes ... I can get there (DKos) but it takes a long time to load.

It is possible, and this country and it's people will be stronger for it!
ABC "NEWS"
ABC's Nightline Walks Away From Iraq (Media Matters)
Eric Boehlert: What's so distressing is that television's wholesale withdrawal from covering the war comes at a time when Americans, week after week and month after month, tell pollsters that the "situation in Iraq" is the story they follow most closely, according to the Pew Research Center's weekly News Interest Index.

Ethanol is still a bad choice for fuel, IMO. The big reason why is it is fully miscible with water. Butanol is a better choice, as it becomes insoluble at concentrations of about 8%, and there are bacteria can build it from just about any biomass... not just sugars and simple carbohydrates.
Unfortunately, the bacteria wind up dying at concentrations of more than 1.5% butanol, so energy still needs to be put in to distill the solution, rather than just skimming the alcohol off the top... or either that, engineer a bacteria that can survive higher concentrations of butanol. :-/

HER health? HER good name? Please. It's an it.

Iowa's hit the mother lode with Ethanol. But you will not hear these corn farmers saying. . . Yeah it's a scam. It's deplorable, we're growing human food to turn into fuel for cars. While people are staving. We Iowans invested in large multi generation farming operations have been given the choice of being tossed out into the street broke, or selling corn to China or domestically for Car Fuel.
......has the scoop on the migrant detention center being built at Gitmo to house 10,000 people in case, y’know, there’s a boat crisis or something.....
think the US is about to do some open source push back down south? I wonder if they will stage the invading troops in Gitmo before they march out in the greater cuba once Fidel passes..
I dont think this is about a boat crisis,, this is about Cuban natives.

Look at 10Questions.com, they let people vote and the top ten questions the people picked were not "crazy."
Re: 4th Generation Warfare, the Iraq situation demonstrates how much influence and effectiveness ragtag geurilla groups can exercise against state of the art ilitary organization. I hope the Pentagon and the nations police departments keep that example in mind if they are ever ordered to take actionsagainst the American People.
Paul @ 18:
Damn right! I think (hope) at least half of the cops and military would refuse to take action against the American people and join us in overthrowing this corrupt and criminal administration. And don't forget about blackwater and the other mercs. who knows what they'll do.
kudos to Bob Morris on the roundup
Blue Buddha @ 11:
I usually would agree with you that biofuel is crap being that they use food crops to make it and that is a disaster waiting to happen. But, I really like this idea because it is using waste products from food production and it is using local resources to make fuel instead of importing them. These are the type of microscale solutions that will have to take place all over to start fixing the problem.
Didn't she crib that 'My Boyfriend is a Twat' title from Giuliani's memoir,
'My WifeFriend is a Twit'?
No, Preacher Boob, I didn't. The title was actually set up by the very twat himself.
Clever man, eh?
