Rahm, where's the money for 0H-05?

There's been a bit of a struggle going on at the DCCC because many members want to help finance run in the special election on December 11th, but Rahm Emanuel is stubbornly opposed to opening up the wallet to help a grass roots progressive pick up a very winnable seat.

Both Sherrod Brown and Gov. Ted Strickland won in that predominantly Republican area and along with Rep. Tim Ryan and the rest of the Ohio Democratic congressional delegation have been adamantly urging Van Hollen to help finance her run. Now I find out that Gov. Strickland will be campaigning with Robin all day Saturday. She's opposed to NAFTA so you can see why Rahm is turning a blind eye to her and behind the curtain, pulling a Wizard of Oz move and refusing to let the cash go. It's irritating so many people that Gen. Wesley Clark wrote a letter to his whole list that says:

Robin Weirauch is running for the open seat in Ohio's 5th congressional district. Voters will be hitting the ballot box in less than two weeks on December 11.

A victory in OH-5 will send a message across Ohio and America that voters are ready to turn the page on George W. Bush and the Republicans. Contribute to Robin's campaign today!

As the daughter of a retired Master Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force, Robin will do more than simply repeat slogans like "Support the Troops." She will fight to bring a responsible end to the war in Iraq and make sure our veterans receive the health care they deserve.

Strong words from Clark and that shows you how critical they feel this seat is.., And as Howie Klein says :

And thank you, General Clark, for doing what Chris Van Hollen should do-- with or without Rahm Emanuel's blessing.

If you can, please email the DCCC and ask them to help fund her run and send a shot across the bow of the entire NRCC, which is almost bankrupt. We need more and better Democrats representing our progressive ideals and Robin certainly is one.

how about i just post here that its time to disband the Military Industrial Complex and turn the corner towards a nation that embraces peace and respects other cultural identities. :)

Drudge and the whole Rightwingosphere are lieing about the new Gallup poll. In fact, Gallup itself makes some rediculous statements (regarding the poll which claims Republicans have better mental health):

"and one cannot say whether something about being a Republican causes a person to be more mentally healthy, or whether something about being mentally healthy causes a person to choose to become a Republican (or whether some third variable is responsible for causing both to be parallel"

It was a goddamn *poll* so the Republicans were self-stating their mental health. Yet Gallup states it as fact that they are indeed "more mentally healthy". That defies logic. When a person says they are a Bible believer or follow Jesus, notice how rarely it is actually true. Self designation of a trait is the least credible source.

How I hate Rahm.

Isn't he a republican yet?

So when do we start filling Robyn Weirauch's coffers?

Another one that needs to go. Pelosi, Feinstein, Rahm, Reid...the list is getting big.

Why don't we bug the people that hold the leashes to Rahm.

Smarmy bastard needs to be yanked back HARD.

Is there somthing wrong with Robin Weirauch?

Is there somthing wrong with Robin Weirauch?

Yeah, Rahm doesn't like her. Which means she must be pretty damn good.

what is rahm turning into another disguised repug? take the dem money and then support the gop......it's beginning to look that way.

Ha Ha.

I'm trying to figure out why Emanuel wouldn't want to back her.

Please give me a fucking break. Why are we asked to email the dccc? Those fucks are simply republicans with a different name. I wish the left would figure that out. There is no point in contacting scum bags who make their money fucking us over. It does nothing but give them something to laugh about. I'm beginning to think the keyboard kommando title fits the left wing blogosphere as much as the right. You people need to figure out that we are up against a real enemy here in America and emailing them and asking them to act like real, genuine human beings is not going to accomplish one fucking thing. Please figure that out.

Okay, loyalists, explain to me again how all must be sacrificed on the altar of building the caucus?

Explain.

Jakethesnake...you're right.
We should send the emails anyway and then the faxes and calls and boycotts and camera crew visits and protests...
We need to have progressive candidates from the ground up and we need everyone to know we aren't afraid to speak the truth.

...but we need to act. I've joined my candidate's campaign. I won't support the war mongers in the dem party.

Hey Rahm where's the money for NY-29??? The kind of stinginess displayed by the DCCC is the sole reason i don't contribute to them or the DSCC but rather to the candidates directly.

Why no link directly to General Clark's site? The original source is always the best:

www.securingamerica.com

The reason I've called the DCCC is to tell them this failure to support true progressives is precisely why they haven't and won't get a cent from me.

Chris Van Hollen is now chair of DCCC, not Rahm, FYI

If you want to donate to her campaign, there's an act blue widget on her homepage: http://www.robinweirauch.com/

I'm trying to figure out why Emanuel wouldn't want to back her.

Because Progressives are a threat to his personal power base. Rahm Emanuel is very much a centrist DLC style Democrat in a party is moving away from that. Every time a Progressive wins it discredits him, so he's not going to go out of his way to help one. He was pulling the same crap last election by dumping funds into "centrist" candidates and doing as little as he could get away with to help Progressives. It's petty, but typical of him. The sooner he's stripped of any leadership function the better.

I just came from a Wood Co. gathering for her @ Grounds for Thought
(Local Indie Coffee House) And I'm going to tell you folks are fired up!

Gov. Strickland will be joining a rally for Robin tomorrow @4pm (eastern)

do not want populist candidates in the democratic party.

rahm tried to choke off the populist movement in 2006 and openly competed against the dnc candidates in 9 congressional districts and lost 8 primaries.

rahm then sent carville after dean and he may have successfully threatened dean because dean is incredibly silent on everything and the money for grassroots electioneering seems to have dried up.

fahm is a fuKKK.

Ummm... If I recall my active duty and military dependent days correctly, there is no such thing as a Master Staff Sergeant. There is Sergeant, Staff Sergeant, Master Sergeant, Senior Master Sergeant and Chief Master Sergeant... but no Master Staff Sargeant rank in the USAF.

Senator Sherrod Brown was the House manager of the CAFTA fight (lost by one vote, after the R leadership left the vote open for hours, after midnight, going around and intimidating their caucus defectors).

http://brown.senate.gov/issues_and_agenda/issues/issue/?id=9CA18C9C-9B2F...

In Ohio and in Washington, Senator Sherrod Brown has earned a reputation as a public official who looks to the future. An early and outspoken opponent of the Iraq war, then-Congressman Brown fought for body armor for our troops and comprehensive health benefits for our nation's veterans.

Beginning with his opposition to the North American Free Trade Agreement in 1993 and to Most Favored Nation Status for the People's Republic of China, to his book "Myths of Free Trade," Sherrod is building a bipartisan coalition for a new trade policy to strengthen America's middle class, to provide opportunities for American manufacturing, and to protect workers rights, the environment, and product and food safety.

Senator Brown has said that it is the loss on CAFTA that drove him to finally run for the Senate (after 10 years of service in the House).

May I suggest that supporters of Weirauch contact Senator Brown and ask him to help break the funding loose? I don't know if he can help, but he got a fair amount of assistance from netroots in his Senate run, and maybe we can mention that the job isn't done.

And, in 'defense' of Emanuel, let me just note that Ohio is pretty far West from the DLC monomaniacal focus on the Northeast, and the Congressman from Illinois cannot be expected to be aware of affairs so far away from his 'home' district.

And his ass can only point in one direction, unlike many Republicans.

Rahm's lookin' for more Mexican haters to fund

"May I suggest that supporters of Weirauch contact Senator Brown and ask him to help break the funding loose? I don’t know if he can help, but he got a fair amount of assistance from netroots in his Senate run, and maybe we can mention that the job isn’t done."

Will do!
He has sent a couple of organizers here for Robin.

Only one more reason why Rahm needs to be thrown from the party and go join his buddy Joe in no mans land.

rahm is not a progressive...hes another shill for the corporatists

a man more interested in his own personal power than in the fate of our once great nation

force him to resign

Well isn't Rham a big part of the DLC with the Clintons??? Seems they started that cabal and have kept it funded--he was an ass in 06 and would not support progressives. It messes with their power status and their taskmasters. This is what it will be like only on a larger scale with more power with Clinton at the helm again. Rham and Pelosi really need to go, and they will not impeach because they do not want Nancy sitting in that office==it will spoil their plans.I have NO faith in any of them anymore except for a select few.Sad that this is what we have become.

I think those of you wanting Emanuel to resign are missing the boat by a mile. Aren't you the people constantly talking about balls? Emanuel has those, big ones, and he is the kind of attack dog that you all say you expect everyone to be. And he is OUR attack dog, in the sense that he is in fact a liberal, not a religious fanatic or criminal.

He is a corporatist, solidly DLC, though part of this "New Democrat" caucus which also includes Rep. Harmon and which is pretty much a solid Clinton production:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Democrat_Coalition

It's a big tent. Just because he won't fund a Progressive in Ohio is no reason to try to make the Democratic party smaller. Instead of bashing the Progressives, you ought to be electing more of them. This candidate is that, let's encourage Senator Brown of Ohio, himself a major Progressive, to give her all the support he can, and somebody write to Gov. Dean to see what he's doing. We don't need to rely on Emanuel, and he is a fixture, maybe the fourth most powerful person in the House.

Increasing the Progressive caucus size is OUR agenda, not directly his. And increasing the PC is also the best way to outweigh this New Democrat (and DLC) Emanuel. This is exactly the kind of Blue netroots that is crucial to having any future in America. Not only do we need more Progressive votes to move the agenda, but we also need more Progressive votes to have any hope of controlling the DLC/ND caucuses.

Katie @ 31 "Rahm and Pelosi really need to go, and they will not impeach because they do not want Nancy sitting in that office==it will spoil their plans."

That's preposterous. If you think Progressive Pelosi is conspiring with DLC Emanuel, you just don't understand the politics currently in the House.

You make a huge mistake thinking you can remove either politician, or that you should.

Emanuel is UNTOUCHABLE:

2002 67% win
2004 76% win
2006 78% win

Emanuel is VERY POPULAR in his district. You aren't going to budge him. So if your strategy is to tilt at windmills, he's a good target.

You also are not going to budge Pelosi. All you have managed to do so far is alienate her and make her angry. She has the solid support of most of the 8th district -- one/third of which votes are Jewish, btw, and strongly in her support -- and the business side of her district (another 1/3) is not going to replace the Speaker of the House, because, hello, they weren't born yesterday. It's a plum.

So why not work on better strategies, against some of our REAL enemies?

Ohio Proud @ 21 "This one is So winnable!!"

Beautiful. What is Ohio going to do about the terrible vote-fraud? We don't hear much from the Ohio SecState -- are lawsuits going forward in Ohio? (I guess I need to catch up on the Plain Dealer or the Free Press).

They've worked closely together. But now maybe you understand why the Speaker favored somebody else rather than Emanuel.

http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Chris_Van_Hollen

Van Hollen is far more vulnerable in his seat. But the Maryland caucus is big money street, and as the Leader is also from that state.

Paul in LA @ 33:

Paul I'm from a nearby district and I can tell you Rahm is not all that popular there. He is, however, popular with the machine controlled democratic party in Chicago. Chicago is a democratic city but not progressive.

Also, I thought someone else is in charge of the DCCC now, not Rahm, although he still has much power in the party.

Rahm... Pfft.

Neoliberals are just as bad as neocons. In fact, they're the same species infecting the Democratic Party the way the Republican Party is infected with neocons.

It used to be that while Democrats and Republicans may have had different ideas about how to solve our mutual problems, there was still an understanding that we were in the same boat.

But neocons and neoliberals regard the rest of us as not fit to live on "their" planet. We're just pawns.

My general response to that level of rank arrogance is, "Just who the fuck do you think you are, Skippy?" And guess what? A pawn can still win the game.

These people need to go. They BOTH want to privatize everything under the sun even when it's completely inappropriate and even harmful to the mass of society. They BOTH are a bunch of corporate hacks, and personally, I want my party back. And I'm sure many rank-and-file non-psycho and non-religious wingnut Republicans would agree.

I know this because when I see people as politically diverse as Bruce Fein, Bill Maher, Philip Giraldi, Greg Palast, Jonathan Turley, Randi Rhodes, Greg Nichols, Naomi Wolf, Naomi Klein, John Dean, Gen. Wesley Clark, start AGREEING on things, it's a real indication these neoliberal/neocon types have led this country completely off the rails, and should be removed from government PERMANENTLY, and like, YESTERDAY.

Right now, we're in real danger of looking less like America, and more like Germany circa 1939, and we better get a grip REAL DAMN FAST.

Thank goodness for Americans like General Clark who are trying to get the best people elected to office. I hope many donate to Robin Weirauch’s campaign, she seems like a great candidate.

Here's a link to General Clark's Act page for Weirauch, and you can also help fund Clark's own travels around the country in support of Democrats. http://www.actblue.com/page/winohio5?refcode=clarkt

[Leave the racist labels out of your commentary on this site. Thanks-Sitemonitor]

I have nothing against Weirauch, I don't know anything about her, but I grew up in OH-05, and it's full of dumb farmers and church-goers who hate anyone pro-choice or gay or different in ANY way from them. Not only that, she's running against the son of Delbert Latta, who was Congressman for about 50 years and never had anyone run against him. The Latta name has a lot of recognition, and people are stupid enough to pull that lever for anyone named Latta. It's kind of like being named Taft and living in Cincinnati. No matter how incompetant you are, you get elected on your name.

5by5 @ 39 "Neoliberals are just as bad as neocons."

That term, neoliberal, is despicable.

Liberalism is a political philosophy dedicated to individual rights, and especially rights to vote.

The leftists who want to bash the word liberal are WAY off the page.

If being a blue dog style Democrat was all one needed to be for Emanuel to hand over millions then Phil Forgit's campaign would be well funded.

http://www.cqpolitics.com/wmspage.cfm?parm1=5&docID=news-000002634653

A national grassroots effort needs to be initiated to take Rahm's seat from him and replace him with a Democrat.

Paul @ 45:

A national grassroots effort needs to be initiated to take Rahm's seat from him and replace him with a Democrat.

How are you going to get the entire nation into his district?

With his last win at 78% of the electorate, you are wasting your snark.

Someuderguy @ 44 -- from your link:

Weirauch’s contributors during this period include House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California; Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer of Maryland; and Rahm Emanuel of Illinois, chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, who headed the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in the 2005-06 election cycle. All three Democrats gave to Weirauch’s campaign via their own campaign committees and their leadership PACs.
