Mike's Blog Round Up
Good morning. I'm Lance Mannion and I've got a hundred more snappy openings planned and no more posts here to use them in. I'm Lance Mannion and I am not now nor have I ever been...I'm Lance Mannion and I want to thank the Academy for...I'm Lance Mannion and I married a witch...I'm Lance Mannion and I know what you did last summer...But...It's my last day as guest host for the blog round up. I'll just have to save them all for my own blog, where politics, movies, married life, and murder are all part of the weekly mix. The daily mix here includes:
Romance: Commander Agi is a sucker for a beautiful love story, like the one between Mike Huckabee and Chuck "Walker Texas Ranger" Norris.
Smoke-filled rooms: Mugsy's asking supporters of Dennis Kucinich to take a look at Mugsy's main man, Bill Richardson.
At Middle-Earth Journal, Jazz, a self-described "wishy-washy, moderate independent" took both halves of the Washington Post's Choose Your Candidate Quiz and surprised himself coming and going.
Advertising: Lindsay Beyerstein reports on the newest form of subliminal seduction, billboards that cause passers-by to hear voices in their heads.
The fine art of public speaking: Progressive talk radio host, Thom Hartmann, has a new book out giving Democrats pointers on how to rev up an audience with a rousing speech, the way that...um...well...Republicans do. Onnesha Roychoudhuri interviewed Hartmann for AlterNet.
(Robert Ellman has a recorded interview with Hartmann at Intrepid Liberal Journal. It's a long one. Around 42 minutes. Worth it, if you've got the time.)
Cinema Classics: Matt Zoller Sietz, of the House Next Door, reviews one of the masterpieces in the art of the short film, a highbrow cult classic that mixes the music of Wagner with an artistic sensibility worthy of Salvador Dali, What's Opera, Doc?
Television: At ComicMix, veteran comic book editor and writer Mike Gold has the grumps over Heroes' sophomore jinx and thinks he knows what happened to cause the show's precipitous decline: "The writers and producers read too many comics, and they picked up our worst habits."
Sex: Susie Bright is asking you to send in your votes for Best Sex Scandal of the Year (and other things).
That's it. All she wrote. Katie bar the door. Too wet to plow. My thanks to Mike for letting me in this joint and to Nicole for doing the actual posting and to everyone who sent in links and suggestions.
Media Bloodhound's takes over tomorrow. Send tips to him at mediabloodhound (atsign) yahoo
I'm Lance Mannion and I'm outa here.

Hey, thanks to linking to my Kucinich/Richardson op/ed. :)
If he protesteth too much, he's NOT 'Lance Mannion'.
'Lance Mannion' was one of the discards, when Ignatz Slobovowitz became 'Stone Phillips'.
Defense secretary Gates said this
“In reality, you cannot pick and choose only the conclusions you like of this National Intelligence Estimate,” Gates said. “Since that government (Iran) now acknowledges the quality of American intelligence assessments, I assume that it also will embrace as valid American intelligence assessments of its funding and training of militia groups in Iraq.”
The thing is, Bush and many conservatives do not trust this particular NIE. So if Ahmedinjad acknowledges a broken clock is right twice a day, he doesn't have to make the statement the broken clock is accurate all the time.
Truth is the US has never offered up any evidence that Iran is supporting terrorists any more than Saudi Arabia or the US with 1 trillion in missing weapons.
If Kucinich is gonna get a real good look at Richardson, he's gonna have to stand on a stool.
I fell for that 'Choose Your Own Candidate' scam, and found out all my choices had been taken by Victoria's Secret.
The new billboards that really get your attention, are the ones with the really cute pictures of dogs, that piss on your car as you drive by.
If you have a few minutes to spend and really want a laugh, go to YouTube and look at the clip of 'Lance Mannion' beating the sh*t out of his ghost writer, trying to get his 'Mike's Blog' column done on time.
Mugsy: I liked the op-ed. But in it, you say that the beef industry won their slander case against Oprah. I remember otherwise, and this indicates that Oprah won:

Gee, Lance, sorry to see you go.
In fact, I'm pissed.
The Washington Post quiz is worthless. You are given a simple question and a one sentence blurb from each candidate and asked which one you agree with. Even when you chose to get the whole passage (as opposed to the one sentence), half the responses look exactly the same. There is little attempt to actually distinguish the candidates from each other.
The reason Huckabee's polling so well in Iowa, is lazy pollsters.
They found out if they just dialed one number, the Dubuque Hospital for the Insane, they could speak to all the inmates.
Huckabee's poll numbers went through the roof at the Asylum of The Holy Baptist Church of Little Rock, So Help Me God.
YellowSnow @ 12:
i cannot gag or puke enough to listen to any of the party of perverts and clocksuckers!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kucinich is not in this poll.
Once again the Corporate Media defines who we can choose for President.
Who is Lance Mannion?
when I was a kid (about 8 or 10 years old) my friends and I used to page 'Lance Mannion' at Malls or Restaurants, when I was 12, I did it once in a casino in Vegas (I was there for my cousins wedding). I always thought we made the name up, but does it come from something?
I'm talking almost 30 years ago, so to see it today kind of surprised me. if anyone knows for sure or if your out there Lance, let me know, it's a trip!
From Mugsy's blog:
He does, of course, mention that there's some controversy over this. Now, to be honest, I live in Indiana and we've NEVER had this. Anywhere that allows split tickets (and to my understanding this is EVERYWHERE) doesn't do this. I can't even believe that Texas is set up the way Mugsy claims.
As such, I'm amused to see it include in a list without some sort of snark attached to the descriptor.
Richardson is the best hope to heal the anglo/mexican divide in this country caused by polarizers like Dobbs and other "white supremacists" out there spreading messages of hate in this once great nation.
Good roundup, Lance (where's Mike been, btw?). Here's another one to supplement it.
Assclowns #67- On the Campaign Trail of Tears Edition is up. On the spit this week:
The Bush administration
The US Army
The CIA
Mitt Romney
Mayor Rudy
all this and much, much more.
Thanks for all the great links this week Lance!
Lance kicked ass all week
Mugsy @ 1:
Mugsy,
Your overall point is good, but you have some serious problems.
1) It is untrue that one may not vote X party in the general if they voted in the Y party primary. (unless you can provide info to supportthis claim)
2) Bill is not a Vietnam veteran: the article you site is talking about someone else.
But the main idea is solid: Richardson and Kucinich share a lot of attractive views, while Richardson offers mountains more comptence and effectiveness.
Kucinich voters should vote for...Richardson? LOL Come on, Richardson worked for Henry Fking Kissinger's law firm, he has voter suppression issues in New Mexico, he is a corporate shill. Why ANYONE would vote for Richardson is beyond me, let alone Kucinich supporters. How about this: vote for the guy that got it right on every issue the first time, VOTE KUCINICH!
I did the Choose Your Candidate Quiz, and I was surprised. I was also saddened that Dennis Kucinich was not on there. (Yes, Hillary Clinton, with Obama a very close second. Obama has been my pick sine day 1, even though I love Kucinich. I'm not American anyway, so... )
I tried the GOP one, but I couldn't accept ANY candidate's answer, so I stopped after about 5 questions: what a bunch of racist, capitalist, war-mongers!!! (what the hell: ...arrogant, torturing, asshat pigs.)
Hi Lance -
Thanks for linking to my interview with Thom Hartmann. Very appreciated and great job doing the blogroundup the entire week.
erkd1 @ 23:
Exactly. Also, there's this: http://www.crooksandliars.com/2007/08/11/richardson-flubs-at-hrclogo-deb...
But what I don't understand is why after the result of the "choose your candidate" test, Muggsy would then support Richardson.
I mean, after I took it and it told me Kucinich best represented my views, I decided to throw my whole support behind Mitt Romney.
