Ho Hum. Another Perfect Day in Paradise.
If you're a rational, intelligent, considerate, caring, compassionate, sane human being, you share only 1% of your genes with George Bush.
Those are the genes that make up your as*holes. You have one, he has one. His is bigger.
The other 99% of your genes go to make up the rest of you.
George Bush has no other genes.
"twofer"? i don't get it.
am i missing something blatantly? i suck if i am.
George W. Bush's high crimes, misleading demeanor and acts of treason are like a stack of pancakes made by a chef on amphetamines; too many to count and covered in sweet syrup. We digest them so fast we can't even remember them all. When all is said and done we remain in the shit.
alien @ 3:
Twofer means both at once, George.
One thing for sure is we need to get this bastard out of there, and we need to do that as expeditiously as possible.
great caricature of cokey
yeah, but that's not really that clever, laura.

We must hope there is some geek with access to a Cray who has been dutifully inputting all the Bush fuc*-ups since day one. We're gonna need him come Impeachment day. And we better start soon, or he's gonna need another Cray, and we won't get done this century.
maybe we have a man that could care less about anything or anyone but his "haves an have mores" and lining his "coffers". thats my vote at least.
Let's hope that Tengrain has many more colds. That was brilliant.
I just wonder about the crimes we have never heard of; the ones we will never know about.
Congress claims the CIA disposing evidence is really what's hurting
our credibility. African farmers don't like our definition of "free trade".
The destroyed CIA "training" tapes reminds me of Eric Bogosian's The Specialist:
The first piece of equipment you want to make sure you have on hand is a nice big bucket... around so big, so deep. (indicates with hands)... Just fill that up with water. Nice and deep. Right up to the brim. Take your subject by the back of the neck. Firm grip. Bring him over to the bucket... and push his head right under the water. Baptize him. Put the fear of God into him... Soak 'im good.

What do we want to do for the main course? Well, some people like to work with rubber truncheons, knitting needles, plastic bags over the head, breaking fingers, twisting arms. Hey! We're not in the Dark Ages. We have electricity.
A pretty creepy monologue on U.S. and how it handles it's political relationships.
I love it when they say we are part of the civilized world. Don't you just love it when they say that?
xoites defends Constitution @ 12:
Once we impeach him, we can torture him and find out about the other stuff.
Preacher Boob @ 16:
FUCK THAT SHIT! I don't want torture!
This is what upsets me about Bill Maher and others that continue the ridiculous notion that we suffer from a dim President. Everything from illegal torture to the lack of success in Iraq is the fault of a dingy President. I think these comments after all this time are no longer humorous mudballs "liberal", but rather direct insults to the American people that are okay with a dumb President and it's something to giggle about instead of being downright pissed.
It's runs with the same tone as blooper reels from old shows like "Cheers".
:: Here comes the President trying to open the wrong door at a press conference in China ::
/cue laughtrack.
Everyone gets a giggle. Everyone pokes a little fun at our dimwitted President, and then it's back to business as usual. I mean, who would take a clumsy President seriously?
This fluffy theme seems to be carried into all aspects of everything wrong in this Administration. "You know, we got this low-brow President that accidentally signed off on approving torture techniques when he thought he was signing a check for pizza delivery to the White House... silly President!"
/cue laughtrack
Thousands of Americans are dead and nearly ten fold are the innocent Iraqis that died in the course of being given "freedom and democracy". Why? Because Bill Maher explains over and over again... we just got some President a couple fries short of a happy meal... that's why!
What was the reason why GWB signed Directive 51 that revoked Directive 67 and consolidates all powers to the Executive office (i.e. all essential functions of government) and made classified? It's just a bumbling President that doesn't know what he's doing. No, no, it couldn't possibly mean something more sinister and subversive to the American people. I mean, any President could have made the mistake of signing in a Directive that essentially voids the Constitution....
What about the billions of dollars that go missing in Iraq? It's just the work of a fumbling President. Think no more of it.
And the list goes on and on... all explained by the Mahers of the pundit circle as a President that just can't get it right because he's a dork.
If anything - Bush has succeeded on every mark. Who else was able to attack a country that never attacked us? Who else was able to claim that country had WMDs even when evidence pointed the other way? Who else was able to continue their fundraising rounds as NOLA drowned? Who else was able to out a CIA agent and still proclaim himself to be the biggest patriot on the face of this nation?
It's now the American people that are being insulted to think we can be sold a story that all this happened because of a dim-witted President. What a bunch of horseshit. The President knows exactly what he's doing. The American people should force him to explain everything instead of offering him a laughtrack.
LibertyLust @ 18:
You are very right and very bright.
picture pretty much sums up the last 8 years...
Look back a short time ago: On July 25, the American economic scientist Lyndon LaRouche declared at a webcast in Washington: "The global financial system has already collapsed—what we are now witnessing are only the effects, which are now coming gradually to light." And, in contradiction to the various ignoramuses and specialists in denial, who speak of "small rearrangements and adjustments" of a few small hedge funds, the developments of the past four and a half months have fully vindicated LaRouche.

xoites defends Constitution @ 17:
SHHHHH! Hold it down. We can torture him in secret. And not tape it. We can make an exception to the civilized world's revulsion for torture in the case of a president who authorized torture, can't we? Otherwise, what's torture for?
Don't know if anyone else noticed this, but an interesting errata on Reuters.com this evening.
The article on the new block-non-buster, "Golden Compass" got a hasty correction, and effectively a double headline. Never seen it before.
"(Corrects paragraph 9 in Dec. 8 story to make clear that U.S. Conference of Bishops endorsed the movie, and did not oppose it)"
Wow, they sure move fast when bishops tell them to get it right.
After he provides us with endless chuckles and we all know he doesn't even have try , at the end of the day he is still an unindicted war criminal and war profiteer and the fact we are even still debating whether he's a constant and deliberate liar, is a sad commentary on society .
That this craven power addicted sociopath , still is allowed to be debated, whether he's a liar or not , is utterly ridiculous . He should have been IMPEACHED and then sent to the Hague for a trial , along with the rest of the Cabal .
Do you know these vampires like Rumsfeld can't even go to certain countries , without checking with attorneys . Kissinger is being questioned in France , England and Germany. Rumsfeld was sought for questioning for a law suit in France . Law suits are waiting around the corner for many of these criminals and thats why the CIA destroyed the tapes of their torturing .
Do you really think he cares whether he's viewed intelligent or not, the man has no principles , no moral values and is major league criminal . What criminal has ever had the power this lunatic has, the worlds super power military that can destroy anybody or any nation and after ALL the death and destruction , the insides of human beings spilled all over the sand and we are debating his goddamn IQ.
You don't need to be rocket scientist even to be the worlds most dangerous man , and I use the word loosely , man .
This system is not broke , momos . This system works great and protects most criminal activity , campaigns that need hundreds of dollars , war profiteering , secret arrests and imprisonment , TORTURE is even debated as possibly useful tool and if the next president that hopefully hasn't sold out to the CFR , the Bilderbergs doesn't change things BIG TIME.
Our democracy as we know it is finished ,Adios .
Next debate on CNN and the "Speculation Room " ..." is freedom of speech harming our security " .
hurray hurray hurray for Tim Russert proving he is the only one you can trust these days in the MSM. is he the only person around actually doing research and getting tough on the issues? first he takes down the corrupt witch hillary in the debate and today the corrupt gambino rudy.
i had lost all faith, but with hillary dying in the polls and rudy sinking as well i can only smile - i would love a nice fair race between obama and huckabee - two honest people that can lay out their positions and who aren't corrupt
Preacher Boob @ 24:
No, we can't.
This election is starting to look like fun, get some rhythm, get down!
That new ditty, 'Do the 'Bama Boogie with Barack and What's-her-name', is catchy.
And there's a lot of promise in hearing Huckabee sing 'Nearer My God to Thee'.
Streisand's cutting 'Hot Mama Takes a Village' for Hillary.
Giuliani is pitiful playing the theme from The Godfather on a banjo, but he always did have a tin ear. But the machine-gun sound effects are cute.
Mitt's 'All My Wives' sounded crappy acapella, then he got 'The Tabernacles' as a back-up group.
McCain can't carry a tune, so he dressed up in a chicken suit, while Ashcroft sang 'Let the Eagle Soar' (John, it's time to fire your campaign staff again)
I don't think they'll be able to keep this up for a year.
Us? Well, we can always leave the country.
xoites defends Constitution @ 28:

Bush does as he plases knowing he's got Pelosi, Hoyer and Reid covering his back. I blame every crime Bush has committed since they assumed their leadership roles on them, since they refuse to do their duties, Pelosi in particular. Bush's greatest enablers,
Ah has me a baaaaaaad feeling about this NIE report.
The odds are against it but Bush might actually not have known about it.
Bush is going into his "don't tell me what I don't want to know phase".
YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS!
I'm surprised his security advisor didn't put it on a DVD so Bush could understand the visuality of it.
I think that something is gonna happen. "An event" of some kind to prove Bush
was right about the nucluer or non nuk threat capability of Iran. I think
some kind of blowback in this country is going to be allowed "to happen" that, of coarse, will be traceable to Iran.
Suicide bomber in Grand Central? Oil tanker blown up by IED inside Boston harbor? The Republican
candidates ARE KINDA DESPERATE at this point. They might need a little shock and awe to put back the fear
into their base. Automatic 25% boost for Bush and for Republican candidates. Santorum might only have
been off by a month. For Cheney it's win/win.
I'm sick of the cartoons and jokes about this massively criminal regime, its time for some serious oversight from the senate/congress and the international community. Time to put these criminals on trial :)
Let's all hope that dangerous moron President leaves office before he causes any more damage to our country and the world.
Who ever thought a bunch of thugs would be running our country?
Over on the right side of the blogs they are talking about the Omaha shootings and the effect it will have on gun control. What struck me as odd was the almost unanamious feeling "...that if I had my guns there...", now the fact that the mall is a no gun zone would stop these fine standing citizens to break the law right, right; what strikes me odd is what happens when you dont have a gun, they all said that they would have hidden like the rest. Why is this odd, if he had your gun aimed at you or your child/wife/parent, would you care if you didnt have gun, would you still attack him even unarmed? I would, most of them wouldn't and I found that odd that a bunch of Rambos turn into cowards without a gun even with loved ones lives in danger.
Getting tired of reading these either...or's to describe that asshole. Anyone who doesn't know he is a despicable liar from the get-go must be just now waking up from a 7-year sleep. Maybe he's also a moron. That's probably simplistic. Maybe it's more likely he has always been protected and bailed out of his messes that he is now so brass-balled he is willing to brazenly go as far as his protectors can stretch their protection. That includes carrying out the elite corporatist-GOP ideal of of returning every cent possible from the US Treasury to the wealthy elite once again -- by every means possible. It also includes the measures necessary to protect the elite and their control of the masses through individual surveillance and pre-emptive laws to neutralize any dangerous outbreaks of disenchantment before they can get off the ground.

Yeah, she is ignorant of history - like 99% of the rest of America - but how would you like her job? Explaining how a series of bold-faced lies are reasonable and true?
Don't misunderstand, I loathe that fading flower! Baghdad Bob in a skirt. She serves the corrupt and knowingly lies about this evil regime for personal gain. Except, I never laugh (about some of what you describe). I don't find it funny. I am happy for some of the comic relief in the presentation, but it doesn't obscure the message. I get it, and don't find it funny, but sometimes humour tells the story well.
Someone gave me one of those Bush-blopper date books (you know, a blooper a day) but I never opened it, or read them, because they just enraged me.
So, while I do totally get your point, and like Jon Stewart, I see it is all very UN-funny. (And I think Jon Stewart does too.)
A love note to my dear friend, Speaker Pelosi:
Dear Speaker Pelosi,
I wonder if you’re aware of the dereliction of your duties when you uttered these words:
“Impeachment is off the table.”
Congress is required by the Constitution of the United States to provide checks and balances with the Executive branch and impeachment is required by the Constitution when the President commits high crimes and misdemeanors.
By making that statement, you have denied that responsibility. What would it take to change your mind?
Illegal wiretapping? No.
Torture? No.
Lawless detention of people at Gitmo? No.
700 signing statements designed to ignore 200 years of precedents? No.
An NIE report that makes Him look either incompetent or deceitful, after mentioning a threat of WWIII based on no evidence? Nope.
And now obstruction of justice by destroying evidence? Apparently not.
Ms. Pelosi, as the first female Speaker of the House, you had an opportunity to demonstrate that women are just as courageous and willing to make difficult decisions as men. You have failed.
But even more, you have simply failed the Constitution and America. This will be your legacy. Whatever else you have done for your country’s good will forever be overshadowed by your not stepping up when your country needed you most.
Good night and good luck.
We have the power! See this video: WAR IS OVER if you want it
Paul @ 36:
I continue to wonder who here is working, and who is just sharing their opinions. Does it really seem to someone that one of the most Progressive Representatives in the Congress is the target person to attack?
Maybe you never met the Republicans who have been at Bush's back this whole time.
The concept that the burden you demand of Democrats doesn't fall at all on Republicans is what is wrong with the anti-war movement today. YOUR REAL ENEMIES you do absolutely nothing to oppose. Instead, you heap blame on the Progressive Leader who knows that impeachment is a dead letter under this coup.
And do Bushco's work for them. Why is it not YOU who are at Bushco's back, Paul? You're doing RNC work for them, and you have ZERO as a record dinging the Republicans in any way, shape, or form -- so far as anyone knows.
You pound on her, and then we can go back to having Hastert, DeLay, Gingrich as Speakers (or Hoyer), and maybe you can even pound on her and we can get Gephardt back as minority leader! Imagine the fun.
edgecity @ 56 “Impeachment is off the table.”
How come you never remember the rest of what she said, that the Dems would pursue stringent oversight and that might lead to impeachment.
She herself has admitted that it hasn't, that her tactics have been generally failures, but the factor that has to change is NOT ON THE DEMOCRATIC SIDE.
A sufficient scandal that brings down REPUBLICAN anger on Republican members of Congress -- and especially Senators -- is the only thing that is going to bring an impeachment with conviction. Otherwise, it's just ignoring the real political equation, and having a scapegoat.
I really don't respect people who need a scapegoat, especially when that scapegoat is willing to do the job as hard as she has. It's not her fault that the Republicans are supporting Bushco, or that the media has been taken over by Bushco, or that the justice system has been taken over by Bushco. And yet, she's the one you target -- the first female Speaker, the first Progressive Speaker in U.S. history.
Bushco and the RNC laughs at all the work you do for them.
Oil's down, but only because jobs are down.
Paul in LA @ 59:
Democrats are not gonna save our country for us! wake up. Congress has a lower approval rating than Bushco. Nancy Pelosi is the one who is laughin.
I'm watching a meteorologist on TV talk about all the downed power lines (from all the ice) in the Midwest, and it brings to mind, again, the collapse of America's infrastructure starting in the Reagan Years. Pretty soon, everything in America is going to look like a Soviet battleship -- so many layers of dirty grey paint covering everything that the screwheads have been painted over and nothing can be opened or repaired. No more public transportation; no more public sanitation service; no more public firefighting...
...And the top 1% will continue to live in their gated communities, and their representatives will continue go on TV and say, "I don't understand why people aren't more cheery about the economy!"
"As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron."
H.L. Mencken (1880 - 1956)
I agree with xoites when they say crimes we don't know about. I hate to think of when we get a Democratic President and a majority senate that we do find out about these crimes.
The thing is we will never have a recourse to punish this administration. The Supreme Court will let them off with any prosecution we should mete out to them. And of course the Republican Senate should be buried under the shit they have shoveled to the people of this country for the last seven years.
Look at all the things they have already gotten away with. I cringe ever time I hear Tom DeLay's name. He is still not been taken to trial. He is still roaming the country being allowed a platform to further bash the Democrats and he is the biggest crook going. So no matter what they have done, most will get off scott free.
xoites defends Constitution @ 17:
Agreed. As much as the bastard deeply deserves it I would be happy to see him brought up on charges, convicted in a court of law and sentenced to serve time in jail. Or if they're considering alternatives have him deported and permanently banished from the US. And he can take his entire clan with him. Send them to Bolivia. At least a few of them would over dose on coke within a week. A fitting end.
I had this idea for a book. A guy who laughs about the low grades he got in school decides to run for president. He has no evident qualifications, having failed at everything he'd ever done in life. He'd avoided the draft as a young man and had failed to honor his duties with the National Guard. But his daddy had been president. That helped.
He lost the election, but in the state where his brother was governor there was a lot of flimflam...computers and central tabulators flipped votes, ballots were disallowed, and thousands of eligible voters were kept away from the polls. He was declared the winner of that state by a few hundred votes, which gave him the Electoral College even though he'd lost the popular vote by about 500,000 nationwide. The State Supreme Court ruled for a recount, which under the Electoral College should have been the final word; but the U.S. Supreme Court overruled the state and said the loser of the election was president.
Junior then decided to invade a foreign country that had a mean despot in charge. Meanwhile his vice president assembled a gang of energy company executives and told them we were going to invade this country, and promised them no-bid contracts for the rebuilding of the country after we bombed it and killed a lot of innocent civilians. All of this was top secret. Then suicide terrorists attacked New York and Washington, which gave Junior and his vice president an excuse to go ahead with the invasion, even though none of the terrorists had anything to do with the country we'd been planning to invade, which supposedly had weapons of mass destruction.
It turned out they didn't have weapons of mass destruction. But Junior and his vice president continued to occupy the country. We elected another guy the next year, but once again the election was rigged and Junior got to stay in office. In order to track down so-called terrorists, he authorized torture of people we'd picked up off the streets in foreign countries. He spied on Americans, in violation of the law.
His party lost control of Congress at the mid-term elections, but the Speaker of the House, apparently chosen because she was a woman and for no other reason, publicly ruled out impeachment of Junior and his vice president. It turned out she had been complicit in approving torture when she had been a Congresswoman. Junior went right on torturing people while denying he was doing it. He went right on spying on people. And he continued to occupy the country he'd invaded, sending soldiers back there for three and four turns of duty.
At this point I ripped up the manuscript, deciding it wasn't plausible, even as fiction.
milquetoast @ 61:
You don't know her, so naturally you suspect her. But she has a TWENTY year near-perfect record of being among the top most Progressive members of Congress. Unlike you, I don't start my paranoia with the person closest to me. I start with the ugly bastards who made a ton of money off your suffering. Did Speaker Pelosi make a penny on any of this? No, she has fought it all the way down the line. She is not corrupt, and is not in league with the criminal party and criminal Executive.
Disaffiliated people have no one to turn to, no one to trust, and the SHITTY ANALYSIS that follows from that ignorance. It took a LOT of work to make a female Progressive Speaker, and to put a Progressive in charge of the party (Howard Dean), and to win in 2006 so that the country could be saved.
The simple fact is that without some sort of pressure from the other half of American society onto THEIR Senators, there is no chance of conviction and removal, except in your dreams and your anger at the state of affairs. Rather than bear your anger at the real enemy, you have chosen an easier scapegoat. That's just not honorable.
Robert Lockwood Mills @ 66:
Speaker Pelosi was chosen because she, as minority whip, led the anti-Iraq war vote in 2002, and became minority leader, and the Progressive caucus which she helped start is the largest in Congress, and she is recognized as a surprisingly good caucus organizer -- as she has proven all year, with historic caucus solidarity on votes.
She's talented enough, in fact, to deny Bushco the easy conviction brushoff in the Senate, and to work to build the House back from the rape of the last two Congresses. So far 22 House R have resigned or announced they aren't running. They just don't like five day workweeks. She's still doing a far better job for the country than the last three Speakers, who were active conspirators in this coup.
And the disaffiliated left is happy to savage her, doing the RNC's work for them, helping the country to confusedly walk into the next electoral trap, if possible. We've even had people here suggest that we vote Republican, to hasten the fall of the Empire. I just wonder who is for real among the commenters, because I have a better idea who Nancy Pelosi is than I do of any of you -- and I think she's among the top ten great politicians in my lifetime.
Marge @ 64:
If they can make you feel that way, bingo, they have succeeded.
This situation is in no way predictable from the past. NO EXECUTIVE IN HISTORY has had this much palpable evidence against it/him/them.
We have a mountain of evidence, and they will not be 'getting away' with it. We need special prosecutors and grand juries, and about ten years, but they are going to pay, at a level something like the Truman Senate hearings which took away his grandfather's company, times a thousand.
Don't let the media sewage or the pattern of previous success snowing the public gull you into ignoring the mountain of evidence that is falling on these bastards. We hit on two or three scandals at once STILL, and stir a real public reaction on both sides of the electorate--and anything is possible.
We have in the Oval Office either a dangerous moron or a heinous liar...
He's a very small man with a very large ego. That is a dangerous combination.
He does lie, but his ego tells him it's ok because the people he's lying to don't matter because they're morally inferior.
Interesting coverage from the NYT this weekend on th democratic campaign and they showed how biased they are in favor of Clinton. Funny how the NYT tried to equate the Clinton's debut of Chelsea Clinton on the campaign trail as being on par with Oprah. The Clinton's jealously guarded Chelsea's privacy for years, but I guess now she's a star. And why is she a star? For no other reason than her last name is Clinton. Shows how arrogant the Clintons are. Oprah, on the other hand, has reached a unique plateau of success through hard work and talent. Metaphors for both campaigns.
budda @ 27:
"Honest" and "not corrupt" are words that do not belong in any sentence about a Republican. Huckabee destroyed the hard drives in the governor's office when he left office in January. Now, what did he have to hide?

After reading the latest Senate Intelligence Committee report on Iraq one can believe that before Bush decided to invade Iraq it was common knowledge that this war would be difficult and undetermined on how long it will take.
A very glaring part of the conclusion which totally contradicts Bush and Company as to how long and for the very reason to be able to convert to a Democracy is alarming. The Senate Intelligence committee says:
“The practical implementation of a Democratic rule would be difficult in a country with no concept of loyal opposition and no history of alternation of power”.
Wow, is that something or what.
Also, going into Iraq it was warned the after Saddam violence would likely increase. Most importantly after American’s army left violence will also increase. Yikes, surge or no surge they already know what’s going to happen. Here, clearly shows America that Mainstream Media has failed America by not challenging Bush and Company.
Ladies and gentlemen of America Bush and Company knew this Iraq war was considered a very difficult risk. And, Bush and Company refused to acknowledge that to America.
CIA leaks, now CIA tapes destroyed. The very single reason to impeach bush is so accountability is done for we all have seen Bush will just pardon who ever for what ever even if guilty and convicted as charged.
Many might agree about my assessment in these destroyed tapes, here fundemental evidence that was requested and not given to agencies investigating 911.
Bush with his close family friendship with the Bin Laden family in political and business partnerships is violations of the Constitution responsibilities that likely promotes family fortunes rather than serve America. Worse, Bush more then likely could be tied harder to the Bin Laden Arab ruling class through those tapes, in fact that manifest to actions that Bush and Cheney accepted military consul from the very enemy America is fighting. Its bad enough we are in debate about torture, but even the slightest gesture of what military act is to done, by Bin Laden Arab family consul in Iraq is treason. For we all know the Bin Laden’s are “Al Qaeda”. Here, America we see the freedom to profiteer in secret. Very compelling for corrupt corporate and Mainstream Media to hop aboard the greatest secret tax dollar fraud ever created by a political group.
Vote Democratic.

Bush has no intestinal fortitude. He would crack at just the thought of being tortured. We wouldn't actually have to do it except for fun. He thinks everyone else is as weak as he is which is why he thinks torture works.
While visiting England, George Bush is invited 12/10 04:19:00
to tea with the Queen. He asks her what her leadership philosophy is. She says that it is to surround herself with intelligent people. He asks how she knows if they're intelligent.
"I do so by asking them the right questions," says the Queen."Allow me to demonstrate."
She phones Tony Blair and says, "Mr. Prime Minister. Please answer this question: Your mother has a child, and your father has a child, and this child is not your brother or sister. Who is it?"
Tony Blair responds ,"It¹s me, ma'am."
"Correct. Thank you and good-bye, sir," says the Queen. She hangs up and says, "Did you get that, Mr. Bush?"
"Yes ma'am. Thanks a lot. I¹ll definitely be using that!"
Upon returning to Washington, he decides he¹d better put the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to the test. He summons Jesse Helms to the White House and says, "Senator Helms, I wonder if you can answer a question for me."
"Why, of course, sir. What¹s on your mind?"
"Uhh, your mother has a child, and your father has a child, and this child is not your brother or your sister. Who is it?"
Helms hems and haws and finally asks, "Can I think about it and get back to you?"
Bush agrees, and Helms leaves. He immediately calls a meeting of other senior Republican senators, and they puzzle over the question for several hours, but nobody can come up with an answer. Finally, in desperation, Helms calls Colin Powell at the State Department and explains his problem.
"Now lookee here, son, your mother has a child, and your father has a child, and this child is not your brother or your sister. Who is it?"
Powell answers immediately, "It's me, of course, you dumb cracker."
Much relieved, Helms rushes back to the White House and exclaims, "I know the answer, sir! I know who it is! It's Colin Powell!"
And Bush replies in disgust, "Wrong, you dumb shit, it's Tony Blair!"

Paul in LA @ 59:
We all know that "Bushco" as you put it are the source of the problem, actually that's my whole point. It's the duty of Congress to hold them accountable. They are not doing that. The only course of action that will restore the Constitution now is impeachment, and nothing less. And now, not maybe if, or later, etc.
I used that statement because today it's a fact, impeachment proceedings have not begun, and Ms. Pelosi has not taken action to do so. Paul in #68 is right, but no-impeachment is beyond a major mistake in my estimation, it's catastrophic.
I start paying attention when people like Bruce Fein, the man who authored the first article of impeachment against President Clinton forms an organization to help restore the Constitution because of the damage that "BushCo" has done. If you haven't seen it there's a great interview Fein had with Bill Moyers on PBS in July. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruce_Fein
Ok, I'm being tough on her, and yes she is a wonderful progressive politician. However critical analysis must also require us to look at our own (in)actions.
When is enough, enough? Constitutional scholars are satisfied we must begin impeachment now, so am I.

AND. ONCE AGAIN. IT WOULD TAKE A SIMPLE MAJORITY IN THE HOUSE TO IMPEACH, BUT A 2/3 VOTE IN THE SENATE TO REMOVE FROM OFFICE. 2/3 OF THE ENTIRE SENATE! THAT'S NEVER, EVER GOING TO HAPPEN. QUIT WHINING AND BLAMING PELOSI.
Do you think that you'll EVER, EVER get a single Republican to vote to remove him from office??? THINK, MCFLY.

The practicality of only playing the games you think you can win can be turn out to be either smart or small-minded, for me acting on valued principles by doing what is REQUIRED by the Constitution is more important than only playing the games we can win.

Don't for a minute think that you do not owe that money. It comes to about $30,000 for each American, including infants. If you are a family of four you now owe about $120,000 thanks to those tax cuts. YOU owe this money, even though the tax cuts have primarily gone to the very rich. You WILL be paying it, one way or another. Don't think that debt like that just goes away.
PLUS now each year we pay about $433 billion for interest on that debt.

France formally suspended on Thursday the commercial use of genetically modified (GMO) seeds in the country until early February and ordered a biotech safety study. The future of GMOs has long been the subject of heated debate in France -- Europe's top grain producer -- and the country's reluctance to use GMO crops compares starkly with the United States, which is far more tolerant of the technology.

Joe Conason: Romney and Huckabee's religious intolerance - http://www.salon.com/opinion/conason/2007/12/07/religion_presidency/
For the truth is that no matter how often candidates like Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee promise to uphold the Constitution and protect religious freedom, they are clearly seeking to impose the restrictive tests of faith that the nation's founders abhorred.
Phonies like Huckabee and Romney complain constantly about the supposed religious intolerance of secular liberals. But the truth is that liberals -- including agnostics and atheists -- have long been far more tolerant of religious believers in office than the other way around.

It doesn't matter how many votes they think they can get. Impeachment is not (supposed to be) a political maneuver. It is high up in the list of job responsibilities for a congressperson. When the executive has violated the constitution and failed to perform to the standards of the oath of office, it is the duty of the congress to take the steps laid out in the constitution.
If I told my boss that part of my job was "off the table," I'd have a pretty hard time staying in the job.
xoites defends Constitution @ 17:

Anyone familiar with impeachment procedure as far as how long can a proceeding be tabled before being brought up for debate in the House?
I think it is important for the process to be initiated for all those who are suspected of having committed crimes against the country, before the WH SoB decides to pardon them all.
He cannot pardon anyone being impeached.

everybody yerns for your respect! i myself long for your approval!!!
Paul in L.A. has every right to defend Pelosi, of course. But he seems to overlook the fact that by taking impeachment off the table, she is denying her constituents the only remedy they have against a lawless chief executive.
Why is impeachment in the Constitution, if a House Speaker can simply rule it out by ukase? Putting it another way, what crimes would Pelosi deem impeachable, if not torture (Bush and Cheney), war profiteering (Cheney), illegal spying in violation of FISA (Bush), rigging of intelligence to justify invading a sovereign foreign country (Bush and Cheney), and outing a C.I.A. operative who had worked on Iran's nuclear program (Cheney, and probably Bush)?
I don't care what Pelosi's voting record is at this point. Whether she meets someone's criteria for a progressive matters even less to me. She has thumbed her nose at the Constitution, and that supersedes all other considerations.
xoites defends Constitution @ 28:
We'll just have President Clinton step up to the microphone and say..."We do not torture."
Rudy's Woodie
I will say this again, Bush is a sociopath and a puppet, put in place and used by the international cabal of financial fascists who control most of the wealth of the world. And, GHWB, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, all the neo-con PNAC creeps and zionists, are the folks who lead the way and make the decisions regarding our nation's path. They put Dubya in office as a distraction. For may years they have done their dirty deeds in secret, but their arrogance has finally exposed at least a bit of what they have in mind. While we argue here about stupid jokes and whether Pelosi and the Dems will ever bring Bush to "justice," the folks behind the scenes are destroying our economic system, stealing our homes, and inviting the minions into our country to pick up the scraps that will be left.
I do not know how we will get ourselves out of this mess - as I think we are still very much unaware of the behind the scenes corruption and crime - and I don't know who will help to lead us - as I don't see anyone in our political scene with the integrity, intelligence and courage to take on this dangerous cabal. Keep in mind how many prominent people have already been murdered by them (including JFK, RFK, MLK, P. Wellstone, etc., etc.,) almost any prominent person who has met his/her demise in opposition to them. I haven't been laughing since I read the PNAC docs back in 2000 and watched the WTC get demolished in 2001. There is nothing funny about the Bushes and their fascist friends who are raping the world.
It is funny, but he is laughing all the way to the bank, and we get nothing.

Here's TEN, right off the top of my head: 5 Don'ts and 5 Dos.
1. Don't call judges "activist" when all they're doing is their job by ruling based on established precedent.
2. Don't enact voting laws designed to reduce minority turnout.
3. Don't lie to the fucking country about the quality of the intelligence driving us into a voluntary war.
4. Don't fill the West Wing with incompetent bubbleheads from Pat Robertson University.
5. Don't hand over HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS OF TAXPAYER DOLLARS to defense contractors for shit that doesn't work and never gets made, then claim there isn't $50 million to spare to provide crutches to sick kids or re-education lessons to former VHS-tape factory workers.
6. Do provide a basic, functional civic education for all citizens that guarantees they won't vote for slickly manipulative assmunches from ANY party.
7. Do keep America at the forefront of scientific research by investment and education, so that WE can stick our chests out and add "curing cancer" and "inventing a flying car that runs on beer farts" to our list of national accomplishments.
8. Do have a government that serves the people, instead of a tiny, powerful elite.
9. Do "Fix reason firmly in her seat, and call to her tribunal every fact, every opinion. Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason, than that of blindfolded fear."*
10. Do give the other side the benefit of a doubt, and accept the possibility that people with whom you disagree might actually be brave, honest, decent folk who love and cherish America just as much as you do.
*(Thomas Jefferson)
