Thank you, Nicole for this thread. I never can get enough of that man!
A political comedian of the past takes on the big issues of the time.
Bill Hicks!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11Fl9ZVJ7B8
He reminds me a lot of Lewis Black with his passion and anger. Funny thing is American Gladiators is coming back in 2008.
In honor of Bill Hicks.

I have to admit. I am going for Barack Obama. But this bro is appealing. With his monetary policy and strong stance against the military powers that be. That being said I hope he is the chosen one to represent the Republican Party in 2008. Democrats rule. But a little common sense comes in handy too.
John, never let them tell you you aren't famous. ;-)

Iran Drops Dollar From Oil Deals
By AFP
11 December, 2007
AFP
TEHRAN (AFP) — Major crude producer Iran has completely stopped carrying out its oil transactions in dollars, Oil Minister Gholam Hossein Nozari said on Saturday, labelling the greenback an "unreliable" currency.
"At the moment, selling oil in dollars has been completely halted, in line with the policy of selling crude in non-dollar currencies," Nozari was quoted as saying by the ISNA news agency.
"The dollar is an unreliable currency, considering its devaluation and the oil exporters' losses," he added.
The world's fourth largest oil exporter, Iran has massively reduced its dependence on the dollar over the past year in the face of US pressures on its financial system and the fall in the dollar.
Nozari did not specify in which currencies Iran was now being paid. In the past, officials have said most oil income was in euros, with a significant percentage in yen.
Japan, which purchases 20 percent of Iran's crude oil, has recently agreed to pay for the crude oil in yen, officials have said. The UAE dirham has also been mooted as a possible payment currency.
Iran has in the past months been whittling down the proportion of dollars in its oil revenue income. Officials in October said that dollars accounted for only 15 percent of payments and predicted the amount would fall to zero.
However, the oil income is still being booked in dollars.
The United States has in recent months successfully encouraged major European and Asian banks to cut their dealings with Iran in a bid to make the Islamic republic give way on its controversial nuclear programme.
Washington has also blacklisted major Iranian banks for alleged support of terrorism and seeking nuclear weapons, charges denied by Tehran.
Iran has also reduced its dollar assets held in foreign banks and urged OPEC to take collective action to price oil in other currencies such as the euro, instead of the US currency which is used across the world at present.
The fall of the dollar, which has weakened considerably against the euro and other currencies in the past 12 months, has affected the revenues of OPEC members because most of them price and sell their oil exports in the US currency.

National Presidential Caucus Announces Results From First-Ever National Caucus
http://www.nationalcaucus.com/120707_results_announcement
-- Barack Obama Wins Democrat Caucuses; Ron Paul Dominates Both GOP And "Open" Caucuses --
Washington, DC (December 12, 2007) -- On December 7, 2007 in cities and small towns across the country, Democrat, Republican and "Open" Caucus groups formed independently online and Caucused face-to-face on National Caucus Day. The first-ever National Presidential Caucus is now history and the results are in.
Barack Obama wins over Democrat voters generating 40% of Democrat Caucus voter preferences. Obama was followed by a three-way tie for second, with John Edwards, Bill Richardson and "Undecided" each generating 20% of Democratic Caucus preferences.
On the Republican side, Ron Paul obliterated the field for the GOP generating the preference of 50% of GOP Caucuses. Mike Huckabee and Fred Thompson follow, generating 33.3% and 16.6% of Republican Caucus preferences, respectively.
Among votes in Open Caucuses, Ron Paul wins with 62.5% of Open Caucus votes, followed by Barack Obama (18.75%), Fred Thompson (12.5%), and Hilary Clinton (6.25%)...

Hopefully they re-hire Mike Malloy... Mike Malloy was a hell raiser. In the spirit of Lewis Black & Bill Hicks.
Gates wants NATO to take care of our mess in Afghanistan.
But hey, we're "turning the corner", right?
You know this country is at the point of no return, right? We now have CIA officers on television calling torture a success story. On Dan Abrams last night, the CIA guy was asked why he was coming forward with this information and he said, and I paraphrase, "I wanted the American people to know about this success story."
Yippee, a heartwarming torture success story just in time for christmas.
Sick.
The CIA broke the law...again.
> ... Hopefully they re-hire Mike Malloy… ...
I think they'll have to pay him some backpay that they owe him before he would consider it.
Malloy is on the air again, listen to him live @ http://www.novamradio.com/ .
Another day and all I can say is "the USA is unrecognizable": hijacked by freaks and run by idiots, bigots and zealots, that dig force and torture.
Is it just me, or has Lewis Black had it? He's just not that funny anymore, and the foul language has lost whatever shock or humor value it might have had. Now it's just grating and a little embarrassing, in the sense that he's working his angry schtick so hard but it's not working.
Black doubt @ 35:
For me, the reality of the situation in this country is just not funny anymore. Satire makes me cringe because we have gone beyond the point where we can joke about it. Personally, I am in a mourning stage.

We love you, Bill. It really sucks that you had to leave us so soon. We could have really used you during these times. You would have had lots of material to work with, that's for sure.

Blackwater Plans Falling Flat!

Totally agree with your assessment about this torture ideal. What I have concluded is that many agents, professional, military, annalist and political persons, present and former go on television knowing very well that what is said is free speech and not under oath. They say anything they want and out right lie or compound lie. “The going theme when debate gets ugly is a misinterpretation is declared on what is meant”. Then an endless loop with a very un-merry go round of snits, smear, slanders, and a host of physical character flaws like what a person wears, how they laugh, big ears, shrill voice, divisiveness, and my favorite the notion of insiders and status quo. As a citizen, I feel right in the middle of this thing because of the Internet now, total free to talk with you all and realize since America wants torture we might as well plastic tie wrap detainees to a cross put them up right in the sun to bake till they tell the truth. Not a new Ideal is it.
To me, two things are happening were the Mainstream Media is complicit in the entire Bush and Company actions with this Iraq war debacle. Not just Fox News, all news, Major manipulation is currently going on dedicated to profiteering and fraud rather then to serve the public. Notice most of “any issue” that looks like scandal when talked about after a while it has been known in circles very close to the public, with the reporters, in fact that reporter in the Libby stuff went to jail for awhile. LOL, Robert Novak, still appears freely on cable news sniping and smearing while knowing who told him about the leak of Valerie Plame, now we have them burning CIA tapes of evidence and exclaim no laws have been broken. Sheesh. How stupid Americans are, not able to see the awful way to the core, which is our leadership is wrong here, this is mind blowing. Not the America I thought it was as I grew up. I am so sad and so ashamed of America and the Bush administration.

While we are doing tributes, here is one to Aaron Russo, who died in August. Produced the recent documentary America: From Freedom to Fascism. People probably know him best from his work with Bette Midler and films like Trading Places and The Rose.
Like Bill Hicks, Aaron in his own way tried to wake up the American sheeple from their slumber.
Aaron at one point developed a friendship with Nick Rockefeller. Before Aaron broke off his friendship with Nick, Nick relayed some interesting things to Aaron. In November of 2000, Nick told Aaron that there was going to be an event and out of that event the U.S. was going to: invade Afghanistan to run pipelines through to the Caspian Sea; invade Iraq to take over the oil fields and establish a base in the Middle East; go after Chavez in Venezuela. Nick said that we would see soldiers looking in caves in Afghanistan and Pakistan for Osama bin Laden and that there would be an "endless war on terror where there's no real enemy and the whole thing is a giant hoax," so that "the government could take over the American people.” According to Aaron, Rockefeller was cynically laughing and joking while telling him this. This is what ended their friendship. You can find interviews online with Aaron where he relays all this.
To provide some background to this story, Citibank and JPMorgan Chase Co. are the two largest shareholders of the New York Federal Reserve, which is the branch of the Fed holding a majority of the shares in the Federal Reserve system. These are the financial cornerstones of the Rockefeller and Morgan empires.
Before WW II, international finance was controlled by the European Rothschild dynasty. Control passed during the war to its Wall Street affiliates, and it is now the Rockefeller dynasty which holds the reigns.
David Rockefeller Sr. was a director of the Council on Foreign Relations from 1949 to 1985 and its chairman from 1970 to 1985. It's the CFR's policies that end up becoming U.S. government policy. David Rockefeller founded the Trilateral Commission in 1976. He convoked the 1944 Bretton Woods Conference, which begat the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. He was also instrumental in founding the secretive "Bilderbergers."
“We are grateful to the Washington Post, the New York Times, Time Magazine and other great publications whose directors have attended our meetings and respected their promises of discretion for almost forty years. It would have been impossible for us to develop our plan for the world if we had been subjected to the light of publicity during those years. But now the world is more sophisticated and prepared to march towards a world government. The supra-national sovereignty of an intellectual elite and world bankers is surely preferable to the national auto-determination practiced in past centuries.”
--David Rockefeller, Sr., Bilderberg Meeting, June 1991, Baden, Germany
"Some even believe we are part of a secret cabal working against the best interests of the United States, characterizing my family and me as 'internationalists' and of conspiring with others around the world to build a more integrated global political and economic structure - one world, if you will. If that is the charge, I stand guilty, and I am proud of it."
--David Rockefeller, Sr., page 405 of his memoirs
Funny, eh? They’ve got us as a society so dysfunctional and atomized… at each others throats (left vs. right, etc.)… and focused on external bogeymen… when the true enemy all along is already inside the gate and in charge of our public and private institutions. The very politicians that people here fawn over (Hillary, Obama, etc.) and pretend are some kind of an alternative solution to this mess we are in are the minions of these degenerates.
What costs less than making war in the world?

Democratic Donor Strike Against DSCC and DCCC
Submitted by Bob Fertik on November 3, 2007 - 8:55am.
In 2006, the voters of America elected Democratic majorities to the Senate and House in order to end the occupation of Iraq and restore the Constitution of the United States. We, the Netroots, helped elect Democratic majorities with large contributions of money, time, and passion.
Unfortunately Congressional Democrats have surrendered to George Bush and Dick Cheney on all of the issues we care about most: Iraq, Iran, warrantless wiretapping, torture, and habeas corpus.
We recognize that "Bush Democrats" are primarily to blame for Democratic failures, and we will do whatever we can to change their minds - or replace them with true Democrats in 2008. But we cannot wait until then to fix the urgent problems we face.
We will therefore begin a donor strike against the official fundraising committees for Senate Democrats (DSCC) and House Democrats (DCCC) until our core demands are met. We will instead contribute only to individual candidates who firmly support the values of the Democratic Party and the American people, as certified by BlueAmerica and Progressive Challenge 2008.

That's an awful thing, those six folks getting shot after getting off a Las Vegas school bus.
But DHS came up with an immediate solution, to prevent this happening again.
'Don't get off the bus!'
Now there's a DHS grant, to provide Vegas with the funds to keep their fleet of school buses circling the town endlessly, only allowing bathroom and snack breaks for the kids, under heavy guard, as they stop for gas.

Lewis Black, incomparable!
My favorite all time skit...was his 95 or 96 "Christmas for the rich" annual story on The Daily Show's 'Back in Black' segment:
"And while everyone else is trampling over one another for an XBOX at Walmarts, lets see what those who already have everything are getting each other for christmas....
At Tiffany's you can buy your very own diamond encrusted Mr. & Mrs. Potato Head....(long pause shaking head - audience cracking up)....OK that's IT...they've finally run out of things to diamond encrust! And if that doesn't do it for you, there's a company, for $20,000 will make your very own, custom made suit of armor (audience is dying at this point as Black has his mouth gaping open in sheer awe).....its perfect for when the pool boy revolts!"
Like I said, incomparable...

Rigged: The Real Answer To Climate Change Is To Leave Fossil Fuels In The Ground: George Monbiot - http://www.monbiot.com/archives/2007/12/11/rigged/
Aha, you say, but what about carbon capture and storage? When governments use this term, they mean catching and burying the carbon dioxide produced by burning fossil fuels. It is feasible, but there are three problems. The first is that fossil fuels are being extracted and burnt today, and scarcely any carbon capture schemes yet exist.
The second is that the technology works only for power stations and large industrial processes: there is no plausible means of catching and storing emissions from cars, planes and heating systems.
The third, as Alistair Darling, then in charge of energy, admitted in the House of Commons in May, is that the technologies required for commercial carbon capture “might never become available”(15). (The government is prepared to admit this when making the case - as Darling was - for nuclear power, but not when making the case for coal).

Iowa Democrats are not ignoring Edwards. The former North Carolina senator and 2004 Democratic vice presidential nominee is the most popular candidate among his party’s likely voters in the Hawkeye State.
According to a new MSNBC/McClatchy survey, Edwards enjoys a 69 percent favorability rating among Iowa Democrats -- besting Obama’s 66 percent and Clinton’s 62 percent. (Bill Clinton’s favorability is at 72 percent.)
For those of you that have 'written off' Edwards....he has been the leader in advocating environmental policies (especially renewables - according to gristmill), him-clinton-kucinich were the only 3 candidates from both parties (all were invited) to attend presidential forum on climate change and he's not taking corporate PAC money...walking the walk.
Also, in case you haven't been following polls (and yes...there is some accuracy in them) he's the only candidate that wins nationally against all GOPers...

The SAFE Act will be an incredible blow to the constitution. This will be the death knell for anonymity on the Web and a daunting obstacle for anyone trying to challenge the status quo. IF they can limit the free speech on the web, and this bill effectively would do it, they will be able to lie again freely to the public with little or no dissent and control the economy with greater ease.
Oh great Amato! Now every Tom, Dick and Harry are going to go create a blog so they too can call themselves handsome. (snark). Love the blog dude. The word press has really worked it well.
I would like to take this opportunity to ask everyone a question. What would you do if you by happenstance met Lewis Black out in public? I think what I would say to him would go like this.
"Glad to meet you. I am not going to ask for your autograph because frankly I would probly just auction it on ebay or something like that. But I do want to say thank you. Thank you for your contribution to our society. I know that you are much more than a comedian. Some people will sit in the audience or watch you on TV laugh and when its all over go back to their mindless activities not giving what you say a second thought. I believe you are much more than a comedian because you are trying to make people think about what is going on in our society. Being funny while doing that seems to come naturally to you. Thank you."
