Mike's Blog Round Up

All right, you’ve slept in long enough. Brad Jacobson of MediaBloodhound here. Saturday. Last day. Music about to play over parting words. Thanks to everyone for your generous feedback and submissions (sorry if I didn’t get yours in there). We can still meet a few times each week over at my place. (I cordially invite you to subscribe as I don’t post daily at MBH.) OK, let’s inhale some links:

Dashiell delivers his own Swiftian magic.

The Manifest Destiny in New Orleans continues (at least John Edwards is lending his voice to fight the good fight).

Glenn Beck on life support? Say it ain’t so! The guy who compared Al Gore to Adolph Hitler. (Polar bears everywhere rejoice.)

Hawke and Dove slip bamboo shoots up the fingernails of the torture debate.

Sensen No Sen is all over FCC Chairman Kevin Martin’s stealthy pursuit to relax media ownership rules.

Spineless Dems walking: Chris Floyd (h/t Cursor) decries the latest capitulation; Susie Madrak asks, “When do we say ‘enough’?” (h/t Kevin Hayden, who leads the chant: “Dump Jay today!”)

Norman Solomon on America’s “human rights daze.”

And exhale. Finally, a special thanks to Mike, Nicole and John for tossing me the keys for the week. (Psst…inside scoop: they’re really good people.) It’s been a pleasure, folks. Peace.

After watching "NOW" and "Bill Moyers" on PBS last night, I've got a question for the Ron Paul supporters out there:

"Where does Paul stand on Media Consolidation?"

His "anti-regulation, pro-free market" Libertarian credo would likely have him on the opposite side of the majority of his supporters.

Next question: "Net Neutrality". How about privatizing Social Security?

My Email to CNN's Wolf Blitzer
Wolf, The other day you really LOWERED the Bar by asking Glenn Beck on your show. This makes your show seem like some TV Tabloid News (like FOX). Why would you ask opinions of someone like Beck who compared Gore to Hitler.

You make me want to switch over to MSNBC. The Cafferty File is fast becoming the best part of your show.

Yah...My understanding of the libertarian point of view is that it will depend on what individual states decide. This is a concern in many directions: media consolidation, pollution and monopolies. Good thing we have media consolidation, pollution, monopolies, torture and habeas corpus violations under control.

I'm not there yet, but I am intrigued. If there were a Kucinich/Paul ticket...I'd be all over it! :)

With you on that one, as would be a lot of others in America

>". How about privatizing Social Security?

Hmmm...privatizing Social Security? Of course, to protect the people, there would be a system by which only select companies would be deemed safe. (We wouldn't want to jeopardize people's futures by allowing them to risk it on just anything...there are way to many unscrupulous people to prey on them.) Does that mean that strong companies with ties to the Whitehouse and Congress (like Enron of old) would be on that list?

My concern is that privatization of Social Security is just another way to take money from the public and put it into the corporations. How about we just have laws that would protect what is left? President after president has robbed this fund.

Privatize water, privatize roads...now privatize what's left of the S.S. accounts our long line of presidents has squandered?

A big P.S. here...

Thanks to Mugsy for all of your hard work.

Whatever his personal beliefs are, Dr. Paul would not be able to make any sharp turns without the support of a vast majority of the American people. He could and would however bring our brave men and women home from the war hell hole created by the bastard neocons sociopaths immediately.

Dr Paul = End the War and Roll Back the Empire (perhaps build a few bridges here for a change)

"It’s time to pull the plug. Let CNN/Headline News know that Glenn Beck has to go. Let them know that you’re on to them and that keeping a loser like Beck reveals their biases. Let them know that you’re more interested in news and honest commentary than shallow contrarianism. Let them know that, although CNN has an obligation to provide diverse viewpoints, they have never had a program hosted by a progressive. And let them know that you have alternatives now (i.e. MSNBC, radio, the Internet, etc.) and you will not continue to watch CNN as long as it fails to provide programming that is honest, ethical and relevant to you, your community and your country."

Great work, Brad.

Especially today's Round Up that includes that enlightening link to Glenn Beck's pitiful ratings picture (Yeah, that's mine. I have no shame).

But seriously, he sucks so bad and there is now no business case to keep that asinine crap on the air. CNN has a choice to make: Cancel Beck or admit you're a tool for caveman conservatives and have abandoned all pretense of responsible journalism.

I would bet every dollar I own that there will be NO mention of Senators Barack Obama or Senator Hillary Clinton for quite a while on this site.

Wow. I'm not sure where you are coming from. When I look at the categories on the left, I see 56 entires for Hillary and 69 entries for Obama and I don't see a category for Ron Paul. What was your point?

I have no idea why anyone would give him a show to begin with. I've never heard him say anything intelligilbe. And the'res no way Al Gore could be Hitler, he doesn't even have a moustache. ;)

Not to worry. With the current Dems in place, it ain't going to be happening (but Telecom immunity looks entirely possible).

The Manifest Destiny in New Orleans!
Not so many years ago the whites used burning crosses and lynchings
to encourage the non-whites to move on.
Today the whites use money. Many places in the New Orleans area that
were at least 50% or more black 25 years ago are now 80% or more white.

Even with being under educated and under employed the black population
was the source of the ambiance that made N.O. a mecca for musicians,
artist and performers. White Mardi Gras? Sure will be exciting.
