Wexler's Goal Of 50,000 Signatures For Cheney Impeachment Surpassed In 24 Hours
By Logan Murphy Saturday Dec 15, 2007 7:01pm
Blue Gal posted Rep. Robert Wexler's video yesterday, asking for citizens to sign the petition on his website in support of impeachment hearings for Vice President, Dick Cheney. Wexler was hoping to get 50,000 signatures and it didn't take long -- it took just 24 hours to meet his goal and the signatures are still rolling in. If you haven't signed the petition yet, you can find it here.
More from OpEd News:
As of Sunday morning, 54,000 people had signed the petition at WexlerWantsHearings.com calling for action now. And names are being added at a rate of one every one or two seconds!
Wexler has said he wanted at least 50,000 signatures. But why stop there? If people get behind this, and if the impeachment movement spreads the word, he could easily get closer to 500,000 signatures over the next few days. Read on...
The more signatures Wexler gets, the more clout they'll have with members of the Judiciary Committee who are on the fence. Let's show Wexler the power of the netroots to get behind and support elected officials who are representing our values and desires.

61,205 sigs at 4:05 Pacific Time, Sunday.
I had already signed, but just had my wife do it. 61,262. Will send it to my email list.
I would sign it but I don't wanna get shot in the face.
Signed.

this petition needs to be put in a prominent place on every lefty blog until it has at least 1 million signatures. This can be done! Likewise, that phone number the redoubtable Mike Meyers is always telling us to call should right next to it. If every blogger who is, finally, fed up with the dem excuses for not impeaching will point to this petion every day until that 1 million mark is reached, people power will, at long last, start meaning something to the dem leadership. I predict the 1 million mark can easily be reached by Feb 1, 08 . Then let the fun begin!
Hahahaha.......sorry, it's a wonderful idea, but.........when the hell would this EVER happen? NEVER!! Impeachment will never ever happen. It needs a politician to start the ball rolling, and none of them will commit political suicide by doing it. Without Corporate sponsors/cash, they are not politicians.
ConcernedCanuck @ 7:
It may never happen, but that doesn’t mean we should stop trying. If we go down, let’s go down fighting.
There may be some people of conscience in congress…could be. Who knows, it may even work.
bob @ 8:
Frakkin' A, Bubba!
Leave the petition online for a week, and you will see millions of signatures.
Great! Then let's do it! On every blog you read, ask them to put up the petition link and talk about it every day until 1 MILLION PEOPLE sign the thing. Such an outpouring, they cannot ignore! .While Dodd and freinds are finding their spine withe the fisa bill, we can shove one up pelosi's rear.
And our cry will be
"WE ARE BACK!!"
I am number 62312.
This will be posted in my blog and forums I visit.
Let's keep 50,000 signatures in 24 hours in perspective.
The Ron Paul campaign has raised $4.75 MILLION over the past 20 hours from more than 50,000 donors, and without any major blogs (republican or democrat) supporting him.
Amazing example of people power.
Randy @ 13:
And, yes, I signed Wexler's petition too.
63,945
Wow..
If I sign this will I end up on the no fly list?
Randy @ 14:
The KKK in its heyday could organize huge crowds of cross-burners on a moment's notice. Your point?
There are PLENTY of rightwingers who would rather have a Ron Paul to a Huckabee presidency. Not that either candidate stands a chance.
Ron Paul STILL opposes warcrimes laws, the UN, regulation of pollution, a woman's medical right to abortion, and most social programs. Ron Paul still supports nuclear, oil, and coal power expansion, and still opposes taking any action on global climate change before it's too late.
bob @ 8:
I signed, and sent the link around. I continue to support Speaker Pelosi (and Chairman Conyers) without reservation, but since the Senate is now officially FOUNDERING (thanks Harry), it is hard to see how giving them a conviction trial to deal with could make much of a negative difference, especially one for the universally-hated Cheney.
Paul in LA @ 17:
Ron Paul articulates the ANTI-WAR position better than Wexler or any other democrat. He also stands up for our CIVIL LIBERTIES--which have been under attack by Dick Cheny and this administration--better than any democrat.
I think any discussion of "People Power" to stand against this war and against the deterioration of our civil liberties has to include Ron Paul.
It is now 5.5 MILLION dollars raised over 22 hours for Ron Paul--still without any major republican or democrat blog supporting him--in opposition of this war and in favor of our civil liberties.
IMPEACH, CONVICT, IMPRISON!
kudos to Wexler!
67000 and going up by 5 or 10 names with each click of the refresh button!
Does Cheney REALLY care if he gets impeached... so what! He got what he wanted, everything else is gravy. He will still laugh all the way to the bank.
The Dems don't have the balls to file criminal charges so it seems impeachment is meaningless.
they could get 10 million sigs...it wont matter
neither the vp nor the prez will be held accountable for their actions
you see, neither got a bj in the white house....so no one gives a fuck
and while you are signing that petition, your dem congress continues to sell you down the river
enjoy
SO.....is this in support of the Articles of Impeachment already offered by Dennis Kucinish on the Floor of the House of Representatives a couple of weeks ago? If not, why not?
Also, the PEW Research Center (the most non-biased polling outfit I know) says 54% of the American people want Cheney impeached so gathering signatures should be a no brainer!!
Randy @ 19:
He opposes war crimes trials, or war crimes law.
He sponsored a bill authorizing Bush to attack Holland if the International Criminal Court arrests one of our war criminals.
He opposes any suggestion of universal human rights, and opposes the basic tenets of federalism, which is why he is beloved of the KKK and others who are supporting his candidacy and causing this minor stir which you lot are so excited about.
i would sign it, but i have an important flight to catch soon and i dont want my name on the terrorist watch list. ;)
lokywoky @ 25:
It is in support of getting the Kucinch bill out of committee, correct.
rob @ 27:
You have posted here, that's good enough to get you on the list.
Maybe you could lick the border guard's shoe.
Pfft, like an on-line petition will do anything. Enjoy your wasted time, liberals.
Bill @ 30:
"Liberals" = People who care about the rule of law?
Sign me up!
[Off topic]. Wexler is a gun grabber, but I support this going after the War Criminal, Dick Cheney.
THIS IS FREAKING RIDICULOUS!!!!! Why give some dumb ass all this attention? Impeach the VP sure for doing what, staying in an undisclosed location for 9/10 of his time in office? Let these "law makers" go after citizens for no good reason...when it comes down to it Cheney is just an American citizen like you and I. Next they will want to take away our rifles and handguns, and grant citizenship to all of the illegals over crowding this great land causing health care and any other insurance including auto to skyrocket. I say sure let people sign this petition it's always handy to have a list of dumbasses laying around.
There ARE more important to the LAW abiding AMERICANS than the rule of LAWS and preserving defending our U.S. Constitution from ENEMIES domestic or foreign. It is inherent at the core of OUR being as AMERICAN. The venue of our struggle for freedom and civil liberty lies in the historical journeys of our forefather and our ancestors must NOT be taken lightly. I spit at those traitors that has SOLD us out.
No one is above the LAW and those who ROBBED our home, deny the well-being and health care; which are the rights of OUR children; trashed our nation and disgraced our NATIONS reputation; will PAY for their crimes. No amount of devalued greenback dollars would ever be enough to BUY immunities for these traitors. There is ONLY ONE earth and no place to escape or no place to hide. For YOU have betrayed 300 million AMERICANS and the millions more of OUR neighbors. Your accomplished GREED will be YOUR own curse.
Justices will be determined beYond the usual verdicts from the four-wall of COURT.
The WHOLE WORLD is watching and humanity will be the JURY. Justice will be serve if NOT NOW, eventually later.
Is this a good idea? Impeach him now and many months after next Nov's election justice may be served. Between now and then however, the impeachment process provides a point for conservatives to rally around.
He shold be tried after Nov's election for crimes against humanity.
A noble gesture, truly......but completely idealistic and therefore impractical.
Everytime a digger signs the petition, and angel gets it's wings!
SpankyTheMonkey @ 36:
50,000 people have actually took time to participate to a VERY IMPORTANT ISSUE.
calling their ACTION:
IMPRACTICAL!
Patronizingly superior attitude...........
matthew @ 35:
Well, on the other hand, maybe stuffing the crow in their mouths will produce more resignations.
We tried, for nearly a year, to offer the olive branch to Republicans in the interest of comity. The situation in the Senate is why impeachment has been off the table. The obstructionism by the Republicans has not gotten any better -- it has gotten worse.
In the House, the blockage of impeachment has been good for the body. Rather than crash the Constitution in a direct showdown, Speaker Pelosi has held quite a few more than 1,000 rollcall votes, and forced 22 Republicans to resign (for various reasons), most of which because working a five day week is too much like earning a living. She has passed some very important legislation, blocked any funding of Iraq from May until now (and opposed the funding authorization bill), and has done a great deal to restore the functions of the House.
I've changed my mind on a Cheney impeachment effort. It won't get through the Senate, but the hot potato really shouldn't burn the Speaker or Chairman Conyers' reputations any more. Those are both excellent public servants, and they have done their job, reliably.
Let Cheney's impeachment leave committee; if consensus exists, it is still shy 30 votes, but those might be easier to get at this point. It won't get scheduled until next year even if it leaves committee, so it will give the R something to do in the New Year instead of having all their time free to block good legislation already passed by the House, as they did last week, and as they have continually done.
But I still back the Speaker and the Chairman, all the way. The Senate is in a quagmire -- if they will not allow it to function, then why not give them something else to do with the time they have on their hands.
It would also force the Republican candidate(s) to support Cheney, so stuff the dirty bird in their mouths too. Why should they get a free ride on the media?
And let the media suck the fowl fk as well. Let them first tell America who this clown is, and then explain why he has been allowed to break the law so much without them telling their audience.
Paul in LA @ 40:
CAROTS and STICK
The conspiracy theorist will all sign it, because they are usually highly inteligent people and they can have this petitation in every corner of the internet in a extreamly short period of time. Also go to blogs for all the current politicians and ask their supporters to sign the petition also.
Signed, forwarded, and at last count total signed was 71726!!! Take THAT Cheney!!
I signed it on Friday. At 9:33 am EST 12/17/07, the count was 72,082 & counting.
Kucinich Rocks!
I had a feeling it wouldn't take much to get those numbers, it's a no brainer.
I'm reticent to sign up to a list of people who are against our leaders. Their fear mongering has worked on me. I would be afraid of being dragged out of my bed in the middle of the night and sent off to a foreign land to be tortured.
Ok, I'll sign it anyway.
:)
zz
The bullshit has got to end and we need a major change in our political system.
go to hell you fucking idiots, you think you can do any better, lets look at your guys past and compare it to cheneys. go back to Russia you communists. we don't want you here.
somebody @ 49:
LMAO!!! You're calling US idiots and communists? Tell ya what, "genius"...why don't you STFU, and read about fascism, and you'll see why so many people are angry at Cheney and this admin.
And by the way...what does our past have to do with anything.
That's sooo fuckin typical of you BushCo supporters...if someone doesn't agree with your (laughably misguided, and ignorant) views of a candidate, or any given issue for that matter. You go automatically into the "love this country or leave it" mode. Yet you folks repeatedly fail to back up your positions. You just spew hate.
How about THIS, ya ignoramus? Why DON'T YOU LEAVE THIS FUCKING COUNTRY?! Maybe you can start your own country somewhere, and populate it with a bunch of dumbfuck, creationist, rapture bunny, regressivist MORONS. You can call it bushtopia, where the earth is flat, and everyone's a xtian who believes Jebus was blond haired, had blue eyes, and sang like elvis.
I don't understand what an online petition, something that's been shown over and over again to be worthless in legal terms, will do with <1% of the countrys names on it?
How many people have found a way to sign this petition a dozen, or even a hundred times? The internet is anonymous. You cannot have anonymous petitions. They're worthless in any legal or practical sense.
And I could hit the streets and find 1% of the country to support just about any hair brained cause or position. Let's jail Oprah, lets fill the grand canyon with Silly Putty, Send a man to Jupiter, let's declare the Earth flat, and then we can sell New York State to Your Uncle in Omaha for $15. Sure.... it's easy to prove 1% of the country will sign anything you tell them to sign.....
We don't need an Internet publicity stunt to tell us that.
We need LEADERS in Congress to serve the WILL of the people. All the Internet based polling and petitions and grassroots campaigning wont get us there.
It's up to 77,000 now. You better resign now Cheney because we're coming and we are taking you away! Bye, bye Dick, your warmongering criminal.
Jesus did sing like Elvis. Prove me wrong!
It was 75k when I signed. Has Darth Cheney found a way to reverse the tally?
75,145
bill @ 16:
Probably, but we Democrats wear that as a badge of honor. Democratic Activists all end up on the airport harassment list. It's a badge of honor. Remember too, that we can do it to Republicans once we run things, wouldn't it be funny watching the person you suspect of putting you on such a list get anal-probed at the airport too?
Doug @ 51:
Shut up Rove, you know damned well this shit worked for you everytime you organized it through your buddies.
somebody @ 49:
Burn any crosses lately, you skinhead peice of turd?
Why is it that you chose to respond to the most ignorant comment on the blog and classify them as a Bush supporter, then go further to say that they are a typical one at that?
You are considering this administration a fascist dictatorship? It's funny that you are using your freedom of speech in a blog based on a petition to impeach a Vice President to call the current administrators fascists. I feel hypocritical just typing that sentence. Perhaps you should read about fascism yourself. However, I digress. My intention is not retaliate to your post, only to point out that "somebody" is far from a typical supporter.
Personally I think Dubya should be the one to take the first fall. But hey, as long as it gets done and those criminals get removed from office and tried criminally I don't fucking care.
Reposted to my own blog. Hopefully that'll generate some more hits. Was up to 74,000 when I signed it.
Jimmy2Slim @ 53:
Actually I think Jebus sounded more like Mel Torme...you know...The Velvet Fog...
Brian @ 58:
You do make some good points. However, I have read about fascism, quite a bit. And this administration is pulling some shit that is nearly identical to what other fascist regimes throughtout history have done to sieze and hold onto power.
Fair enough Brian, since this "somebody" is far from a typical supporter...please describe to me what a typical BushCo supporter is. So I can avoid such mistakes in the future. :)
Bill @ 30:
Normally I would agree with that sentiment. Because online petitions mean dick. However, this petition was set up by a Congressman to test the waters to see how much support there is for impeaching a low life criminal SOB. Personally I think Dubya should be the first one on the stand but then I'm not in Congress.
As far as your Liberals comment, I'd shut the fuck up if I were you. You conservative asshats are on your way out and you've left us 'liberals' a whole lot of nice toys to play with. For example, a government sanctioned ability to monitor all of your communications, infiltrate your church or club, break into your house at night and take anything we want, kidnap you, and take you off to a foreign country for torture just because the president decides you're a terrorist.
I hope you're happy with that status quo, Bill. Because the jokes on you and the 51 million morons who voted for Dubya in the last election. You just handed that power to Hilary Clinton on a silver fucking platter. GOOD JOB. Now you'll have the First Man sneaking peaks in your mom's underwear drawer and he'll have a National Security Letter and immunity from prosecution to do it with!
As they say on the Simpons 'Ha ha'!
Just ONE of MANY sources of info regarding the not quite so dicreet fascist tendencies of the current administration.
http://www.oldamericancentury.org/14pts.htm
I just 'signed' that 'petition' as Mickey Mouse. Think I'll do it again a few times.
Think anyone takes an un-verified 'petition' seriously?
What a joke.
liberalNmoderation @ 61:
Oh that's easy. You can easily spot them by quizzing them on their moral and ethical ambiguity. Since they are people who rabidly support a president and vice president despite the fact that neither of leader would cross the street to piss on their supporters if they were on fire. Yet they will be the first ones to jump up and down, foam at the mouth and call for impeachment and lynching whenever someone mentions cigars and soiled dresses.
The questions are simple too:
A Democrat has $90k worth of bribe money in their freezer. Bad.
Haliburton giving Cheney millions in funds and starting a war that wastes a trillion and benefits only Haliburton and Exxon. Good.
Gang bangers shooting each other on the streets. Bad
Blackwater contractors gunning down innocent civilians for fun. Good.
Securing a ammo dump with 350,000 tones of high grade military explosives. Bad.
Securing the oil wells in a country we're invading for fun and profit. Good.
Listening to yourself 12 years ago saying that invading an Iraq and taking down Hussein would cause a quagmire. Bad.
Outing a CIA agent to discredit her husband who has evidence you are lying to justify a war of choice. Good.
Leaking information to the press who then reveals it to the people. Bad
Deleting 7 million emails, destroying video tapes and using the email servers of a political party to conduct 'government' business to avoid legal repercussions for violations of established federal law. Good
Papertrail and accountability for voting machines. Bad
Stripping people of their right to vote when you know they will vote against you. Good.
Listening to a national intelligence estimate when it tells you that the enemy you had picked out isn't at thread. Bad.
Using a national intelligence estimate to justify invading another country because they have oil and brown people. Good.
Committing an unknown quantities of felonies by breaking FISA law even before 9/11 occurred. Good.
Congress holding a 30 second day to prevent a recess appointment of yet another nutjob conservative. Bad.
Allowing innocent people to suffer horrible debilitating diseases and even die. Good.
Using a unwanted embryos to research potential cures for said horrible debilitating and deadly diseases. BAD.
Subverting the rule of law by offering commutations to your cronies. Good.
Having an attorney general that is beholden only to the law and not to the President's whims. Bad.
Taking away the right to habeas corpus, the 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 8th amendment rights. Good.
Forcing gun registration, reasonable restrictions, licensing, use and maintenance training programs. BAD baD BAD! OMG BAD!
Giving federal funds from tax money collected from at citizenry of many different religions and beliefs then giving them to Christians. Good.
GBLT's expecting the equal rights and equal protection they are guaranteed in the Constitution. Bad.
It's really not that complicated to spot them. Usually they have sore shoulders from patting themselves on the back about how morally superior they are. Even when they're off molesting choir boys, congressional pages or trolling or butt sex in public restrooms in airports.
Imagine how many people would sign it if it were a politician that no one had reason to fear, like a Democrat. Or how many people would sign it if it were covered by the establishment media, as it would be if it were all about a Democratic VP. But the US media (with the exception of ABC) can't even cover the news when a 20 year old American is allegedly gang-raped by Halliburton employees and shoved in a cargo container for weeks - and State and Justice departments two years on have taken no action because they claim that probably no rule of law applies to our overseas contractors...
E in MD @ 65:
Ed....you sir, kick much ass!
liberalNmoderation @ 61:
Don't get me wrong. I cannot pretend to agree with everything this administration has done. I have issues with many of the same points that you present. To go as far as call them fascist is above and beyond. Bush is not going to retain any sort of power beyond his presidency. There will still be GOP influence in politics, but to look for eradication of that would fascist in itself. Besides Bush as a dictator? Do you really give him that much credit? Do you think him capable of being the public figure which is able to rally the masses into following him through a fascist regime?
I don't plan on breaking down every point of the link you provided, but I will touch base on a couple.
Powerful Nationalism. The vast majority of the country showed strong patriotism after 9/11. Continuing the patriotism during a time of war does not mean that people are falling in line under a fascist regime. In some cases, it just means people support their country. You don't have to show contempt for your country in order to facilitate change.
Military supremacy is something we have had long before Bush came into power. The spending comes from trying to support wars in a foreign countries. I understand that your political and moral beliefs may be against the war, but we are unable to change the past. We are stuck in our current situation and until we come up with a "legitimate" exit strategy, the spending will most likely continue. Unfortunately, that is far too vast a subject to cover in this blog.
I am sure I have said enough already to cause plenty of debate, so I will stop there for now. As far as the typical supporter, I can't imagine that a liberal would actually ask me to profile a specific group, just know that not every supporter needs to come on and bash the left with profanity and ignorance.
I apologize. The last post was not a quote of E in MD but my reply to his post.
I wrote
In response to that post, theres not much to defend. I can argue some of the points but overall it's a great summary of the political errors made by this administration. I can't defend criminal offenses or poor judgement, nor would I care to. The only reasonable reply I could make is to list the errors made by the democratic party along with their voting records during this administration. In lieu of taking the time to do that, I will just concede the points and make a list only upon request.

Brian - #68 A dictator ignores the Constitution and will of the people. He lies and allows injustice to prevail for his own desires rather than law. He ignores the rules of society and refuses to accept blame and responsibility. I think Bush qualifies. He has destroyed every department set up to help the American people, he has done nothing to strengthen America in any way. Yes, he more than qualifies as a dictator.
Biran #68 Furthermore, Bush cheated his way into Presidency once and then managed to fraud his way in the second time. Do some reading and find out for yourself this piece of human garbage that you still follow.
texaslady @ 72:
I understand your frustration but in reality a Dictator is someone who rules with absolute power. In general a dictator also refuses to give up his power. Bush does not fall into either of these categories. What you are describing is actually called a poor leader, and yes in many situations Bush may be a poor leader. Bush obviously puts greater emphasis on foreign policies than he does domestic. That is maybe considered to be poor judgment, but again not a Dictator. Of course, many people do not agree with the war, but we have made strides in fighting the war on terror. We are disabling the networks of the AQSL and hindering any capabilities they have on planning any future attacks against America. Unfortunately, that war effort does not get the media attention that it deserves. So while Bush may not have performed in the best interest of the Country in all instances, he is doing what he feels is necessary to protect the general public.
Brian @ 68:
Very articulate Brian...you defend your postion quite well.
I don't have much time. So here goes...In a perfect world, no Bush would not have the ability to retain any power after the next election. BUT...and this is a friggin HUGE but...this administration has been consolidating power to the execitive branch. Bush now has the legal authority to declare martial law, suspend elections, and finally put an end to that pesky Constitution. I'm willing to bet, that BushCo may try something to sieze control of this nation before the next election. I sincerely hope I'm wrong. I hope I'm just paranoid...trust me, this is one thing I damn sure don't wanna be right about.
As for Bush being capable of being a dictator...sure, he will still have the same circle of "advisors" telling him he's great. As for rallying followers. Who needs followers when you have an SS group like Blackwater at your beck and call? They'll keep the dissenters in line!
If I'm not mistaken, Nationalism and Patriotism aren't necesarily the same thing. And alot of what I saw immediately after 9-11 was Patriotism, which shortly turned to outright jingoism, and anyone who questioned how BushCo was handling things, was (is) called a traitor, or worse.
And the supremacy of the military...you are correct about it being around for along time, but again, the last 7 years of Bush rule, speaking out against the military being in Iraq, has the the right calling for our heads...it seems to be more extreme and aggressive, it was when we were at relative peace with the world. I saw a bumper sticker the other day that made my skin crawl..."If you can't stand behind our troops, stand in front of them!" It's that kind of uncompromising, black and white view of the world that has us in this shit.
I support the troops, not the assholes that lied to them and us to justify putting them in harms way.
You are right about us having to have an exit strategy...wish our "leaders" had thought about that before they lied us into this illegal war. But, we're there, for good or ill, and we can't just up and leave..or we'll have another Afghanistan.
oh and for the record...I'm not showing contempt for my country. I LOVE THIS COUNTRY! I am showing contempt for the regime in office that is swiftly and deliberately destroying this Nation, and it's Constitution. How is that Un-American? How is that unpatriotic? If anything, the ones who blindly support this "president" and his cronies, are the ones who are Un-American and unpatriotic. They are the traitors! Not ME! Not the people who feel as I do!
And Brian...I was being sarcastic when I asked you to profile a specific group...and also...I'm only part liberal.
Peace Brian.

Again, I understand why you would be angry. The elections were very controversial. A supporting link would be helpful for me to understand exactly what you are referring to. The only reply I have to this, is if your claims are true, then Bush was able to exploit our current voting system. If anything, instead of bashing Bush we should address our attention to reforming the voting system. We have known it to be an issue for some time now, but even after the controversial elections we are going to vote under the same system in the upcoming elections. It would serve in everyone's best interest to focus on how to improve the flaws in our society instead of exploiting them for no other reason than to degrade the very country they live in.

growing in momentum and magnitude, despite the news blackouts of the MSM. They may even get 1 million before the week is out!
What's the next hurdle ("new challenge for the voters to do") which the DNC will throw before us as an excuse to do nothing?
It's a shame the US congress is treating the voters as if we're on survivor. Time to turn the tables on Congress, and put them on the defensive: Support 5 USC 3331 prosecutions of Members of Congress: Alleged complicity with war crimes.
Looks like hackers are now manipulating the numbers, it went back down to 89,000 - Karl Rove, log off!!!
I wasnt the only one to observe the karl rovian web trickery numbers fidgetting...

Brian @ 58:
Brian, you are the ATYPICAL REPUBLICAN. The asshole calling people "Commie" is the norm. What planet have you been on for the last 20 years?
Perhaps, Brian, you should read a bit about Fascism yourself. You don't have a grasp as to what it is.
Brian, want to see a Typical Republican?
http://terrorismisterrorism.wordpress.com/
Questionable metrics indicates possible GOP interference with Wexler’s Congressional Records.
Isn’t that a FEDERAL OFFENSE and a Felony?
http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/?q=node/29364&from=50&comments_per_pag...
Metrics are now being monitored on a 10 minute basis, but today there were visibly two drastic reductions in the vote tally, giving the appearance of outside manipulation or tampering. Given the serious nature of the allegations against Vice President Cheney, I have no doubt that the GOP would consider this cover-up, to go in conjunction with the Main Stream Media News Blackout about Cheney’s impeachment.

I saw this happen earlier today. I loaded up the page this morning just to see what the count was at and there were over 111k signatures.... I reloaded a couple of minutes later and it was down to 76k
again, moved to a newer thread...

This website is blocked (websense) on on military bases btw...
Brian @ 58:
Brian, are we supposed to wait until they've succeeded in actually rescinding all our civil liberties before we try complain about it?
Fascist: a reactionary or dictatorial person
Dictatorship: A government in which a single leader or party exercises absolute control over all citizens and every aspect of their lives
Bush has attempted over the last seven years to dictate everything from whether we are to be allowed an attorney and a trial to what constitutes science (!) and who should be allowed to marry. He has stuffed the purses of his wealthy and powerful friends without proper bidding or oversight. Worse, he has committed the most egregious use of "signing statements" - documents that indicate he does not consider himself bound by the laws he signs - in American history. A president who considers himself the sole arbiter of what is legal is a fascist and a dictator. Or did you miss that little nugget about his being "The Decider"?
His party has also decided to take part in this hostile takeover of our constitutionally-protected government procedures by blocking more potential legislation in the 2006 Congress than in any other session.
Please, I beg you, wake up.
SuperFly @ 94:
Has anyone brought this fact to Rep. Wexler's attention? IIRC, isn't it illegal for ANY Government agency to block access to a Congressional Member's website?
Also, the military doesn't block access toi radical right wing polls, does not block access for military to post illegal propaganda to message boards, and does not block access to right wing political sites (including the sites of known Terrorists).
Call Wexler's office! Call your own Congressmen's office! (I would, but I ran down my phone yesterday)
EnderW @ 96:
Hey Brian, you were talking about Fascism? Stick around, and you might get an education, as everyone in the military seems to be.
EnderW @ 97:
The military is set up the same way any major business with internet access is set up. All the computers run through a server which has blocks against a huge selection of sites. It is not this site in particular, it's just keywords used in this site that the proxy blocks. And yes, they do block right wing sites as well, it just depends on what certain keywords the site uses. If you would really like to view this site from a military computer, you can often visit the sites through a proxy server. I will not tell you exactly how to do this, but if you use a search engine to look up proxy I am sure you can figure it out for yourself.

SpinyNorman @ 95:
You are right, he has taken upon himself to decide what is best for this country. I don't necessarily believe in that. For example, I am big supporter of stem cell research. I hope when we do elect a new President into office he will allow scientists and researchers to exhaust every means possible for medical advancement. That doesn't mean that the bill could not pass with Bush in office. However unlikely, even the Presidents veto can be overturned. That is the idea behind our checks and balances system.
Also, if you take the literal meaning of the definition you supplied, those words deal in absolutes. Control over "all" citizens and "every" aspect of their lives. I would hope this blog itself is proof enough that he does not have that level of power. Even if I concede the point that Bush has infringed on our civil rights and liberties, that still does not compare to all and every. That reverts back to my previous post that we are talking about poor leadership, not a fascist dictator.
EnderW @ 89:
On this site, I am inclined to take that as a compliment. So I thank you, but I still must defend my original position. The average republican is not the asshole screaming commie on the blogs. He unfortunately is no doubt a republican, but one that gives us all a bad name. He is most likely uneducated and has some sort of unrealistic belief that by replying to a blog with profanity and insults, he is going to coerce people into changing their views. Instead of retaliating to him with similar gestures, you should take pity on him. He obviously lacks the tools to have a reasonable debate among other reasonable people. I have no intentions of changing your political views, I realize that effort would be futile. I just want to express another side of the political spectrum in a civil manner to open up the opportunity for future "polite disagreements".
Brian @ 100:
You're imagining, though, that members of the GOP exist in a vacuum, but they don't. In today's environment, the polarization has been so complete that the power of the GOP punishes dissent in the ranks severely. So even if a Republican member of congress wanted to vote against the White House, they're unlikely to if they want to continue to have a political career. Rove's hatchet men have done a remarkable job of stifling dissent. That leaves the President with de facto power over congressional votes/holds, vetoes and signing statements. And of course, with the revocation of Habeas Corpus, the ability to jail anyone at any time, without due process. That, my dear, is absolute power.
See above. They have the power to do anything, and we cannot stop them. How could something like Don Siegelman's situation exist outside of a de facto dictatorship?
AFTER YOU SIGN THE PETITION, make sure you tell your friends and family, and post the link all over the Internet too: www.wexlerwantshearings.com
SpinyNorman @ 102:
I read up a little on Don Siegelman's case. I can't pretend to understand everything involved after spending an hour researching it. He may have or may not been guilty of a crime. The judicial system says he did, so I will have to go with that he is guilty. What seems to be at issue is what caused the DoJ to file the charges against him. It very may well have been a political scheme, but he was still found guilty. Until that verdict is appealed and overturned the fact remains he really may have shaken the public's trust in the local government. With that being said, I have a hard time justifying the sentence and actions of Fuller. If the information I have read is true (which came mostly from left sided sites) then he should have definitely recused himself from the case. I also don't agree with the severity of the sentence. A public official who has done good things in office and is in his early 60's does not need 7 years in prison to reform. However seeing the controversy surrounding this case leads me to believe that the resolution is far from over and you may still have the ability to stop them.
As far as complete power, again I find that to be over exaggerating. The presidents power is limited by the voting of Congress. Unfortunately I am on a very slow internet connection so it is difficult for me to track down all the facts I would like to present. A few facts that I found interesting though is that 4 out of the top 5 senators to not vote are Democrats, while the only two Senators with perfect attendance are Republican. Also, as far as stifling dissent, 4 out of the top 5 Senators who voted least with their party are all Republican. So really, if the Democrats would like to reach their full potential, I would begin with writing to your congressmen.
I found most of this information at GovTrack and The Washington Post
Brian @ 101:
Oh, and Brian, I wholeheartedly disagree with your assessment.
The average Republican is the moen calling everyone a commies and traitors. Republicans who don't are the exception to the rule. That counts for online, on the radio, on the TV, in print, and on the street.
You guys are whackjobs. Don't gimme no crap about the mythical "moderate Republican", I'm convinced that they don't even exist. If the case is otherwise, they sure as hell aren't visible to the public.
Your average Republican is our first poster-child at http://TerrorismIsTerrorism.wordpress.com/
EnderW @ 105:
Ah, and Brian, if you think we should be "tolerant" of such people, then maybe you should tell us next how we should be tolerant of al-Qaida?
Terrorism is Terrorism. I don't believe in caving in to Terrorist demands, like the Republicans do.
EnderW @ 106:
Nor do I support the goals of Terrorists, like the Republicans do.
EnderW @ 107:
I don't even know where to begin. After the amount of time I have spent on this blog do I really need to defend myself against unsupported and illegitimate claims? Starting from the latter to the former.
You are way off base. Being in support of pro-life or anti-abortion or whatever you would like to call it does not mean you support a terrorist group with the same ideals. That is no different than me saying that because you are against the war you are an obvious supporter of the Westboro Baptist Church. Looking at everything so black and white is the exact type of close mindedness that is causing the vast separation between the political parties. What could possibly make you think, that I believe we should be tolerant of the Army of God. I think that anyone who uses violence in a garrison environment to coerce others should be punished severely regardless of the circumstances. Even if the violence is in support of my own ideals. Which again, I am a pro-choice supporter so that accusation is not even relevant to me.
Secondly, we are all whackjobs? What makes you think that making a derogatory comment in some way supports your argument? By name calling am I supposed to concede to your overwhelming intellectual prowess? As far as the mythical "moderate republican" take a look around. Obviously the media is not going to highlight them because they do not sell papers or ad time. A moderate anybody does not attract ratings. Out of the 300 million people in this country which is roughly split between both parties with a percentage going to independents, highlighting a minuscule amount of republicans does not incorporate all of them. The moderate republican is the one that doesn't make the news. Don't rely entirely on the television and news headlines for your information and you will see this for yourself. With that being said, I can see that the "polite disagreement" is coming to an end and this debate is moving in another direction which I don't care to go. Thank you to those who were civil and open minded.
Brian @ 108:
So, you think that after 17 years or so of the most rabid Republican hyperbole that was not allowed to be rebutted by Democrats, nor was it refuted by any single visible Republican, that we should take it on faith that there are "nice" Republicans?
So, you think that given all of the radio airtime in EVERY city in the Nation, with Republicans calling in to talk shows, be they local shows or national shows, and spouting the most bile crap - all of it unchallanged by the mythical "moderate Republicans" who could just as easily pick up their phones if they actually existed as the ones who actually did call in to speak for you...
As far as the Anti-freedom Republicans caving in to the every demand of the Terrorists, where is this not true?
Just recently, we had a time in which two Supreme Court Justices needed replaced. Instead of sound debate, we ended up seeing Dr. James Dobson (King Christian) and Senate Majority Leader (who had the capability to manufacture Anthrax and the vociferous hatred of each of the targets), who held joint "Justice Sunday" events illegally in over 50,000 churches Nationwide with an average membership of what? 150-200? All of which were saying CAVE IN TO OUR TERRORISM OR WE WILL ASSASSINATE SUPREME COURT JUSTICES!!!
Then, there was the invasion of Lebenon by Israel, where (it's all ARCHIVED!!!) all of you were going around cheering that the world was about to get nuked for Jeebuz to come back!!! 24/7 on TV. 24/7 on the radio. 24/7 on every Republican blog and every republican message board!!!! IT'S ALL F'ING ARCHIVED!!! YOU SICK FUX!!!!!!!!!!
I could go on, but why bother, they are going to kick you out of their party anyway if you are pro-choice and anti-Terrorism.
I suggest you stop doing this, and get your ass on the radio talk shows, assuming they'll let you on and not call you a liberal..... At least that way we can actually hear you as you pathetically try to save the pathological Republican Party from ITSELF.
Oh, and if you think I should be tolerant of Republicans, I disagree. After 17 years of your side being anything but tolerant? After 17 years of the most hateful crap I've ever seen?
I want your party to cease to exist, and I don't care how ruthless we do it. Payback is a biatch. Take your Preacher with you. Religious people are mentally deranged - all religious people. If you want to change my attitude, there is a way: build yourself a time machine and go back 17 years and try to change what your Party became.
EnderW @ 109:
One thing the Soviets did get right: They put the religious fruitcakes in f'ing straitjackets, and locked them in a dark place, and threw away the key.
EnderW @ 109:
"Now it is true that I believe this country is following a dangerous
trend when it permits too great a degree of centralization of
governmental functions. I oppose this--in some instances the fight is a
rather desperate one. But to attain any success it is quite clear that
the Federal government cannot avoid or escape responsibilities which the
mass of the people firmly believe should be undertaken by it. The
political processes of our country are such that if a rule of reason is
not applied in this effort, we will lose everything--even to a possible
and drastic change in the Constitution. This is what I mean by my
constant insistence upon "moderation" in government. Should any
political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment
insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not
hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny
splinter group, of course, that believes you can do these things. Among
them are H. L. Hunt (you possibly know his background), a few other
Texas oil millionaires, and an occasional politician or business man
from other areas. Their number is negligible and they are stupid."
-- President Dwight D. Eisenhower, in a letter to his brother, Edgar Newton Eisenhower, on 8 November 1954
Brian, they may have been few and negligible in 1954, but they control your Party entirely now.
EnderW @ 111:
Oh, and Brian, did you cheer along with the rest of your Party when the Fairness Doctrine was repealed? One of these days some rich Democrats are going to decide to get even with you republicans for that, and buy up all the radio and TV stations like your hateful boys did. I live for that day. I also live for that because I want to see the hatred redirected and AMPLIFIED ten times over against you and your Party. Only then will Republicans learn a lesson.
EnderW @ 112:
Just slapping a bully doesn't get the job done. Kicking the bully's f'ing teeth in, and making sure he has to live out his life in a wheelchair does.
The Republican Party is going down, and we are going to keep kicking it after it's down.
EnderW @ 113:
I learned that kind of love from Republicans.
