Chemical Explosion At FOXNews HQ in Manhattan
(courtesy of Gothamist)
It's lucky for them the WGA is on strike...this lends itself to SO many jokes.
Such as: Wanna take a guess who was free-basing in the men's room?
Or...Hey Rupert, God's telling you something...and I don't think it's good.
UPDATE: For those who have expressed concern...we at C&L hope that the injured person is fine and will recovery fully. The humor is in no way intended to lessen that concern.

Terrorists! 9/11!! Al-qaeda!!
What's so funny about an explosion that's injured at least one person? Let's find out what actually happened before we assume that there is anything to laugh at.
Chemical Explosion!
No way, Bill O’Reilly must have grabbed a bean burrito, a beer, and a side of coleslaw for lunch.
You have to be careful mixing chemicals. With so many noxious toxic compounds around the place it an explosion was inevitable. I'm surprised that the DHS has required FOX to implement tighter security to prevent terrorists from releasing the toxins on NYC---oh yeah, the Shrubbies are actually in favor of increased dispersion of Fox's toxic waste.
Old Billy @ 2:
This is horrible. I hope that no one was hurt badly. I agree that this isn't funny. I can't believe that anyone should have to tell adults that this kind of thing isn't funny.
Maybe John Gobson was spraying his hair with Aqua Net and someone lit a match.
Greta's going to milk this
uh-oh, the machine that makes Fox News kool-aid from soldiers blood and oil must've blown a gasket. how will we get our propaganda for the next few hours while this is sorted out?
( Insert Flaming Loofah Joke Here )
Bill O'Racist is going to add another combat medal to his chest.
Old Billy@2 If it's Bill O'Reilly I will laugh my ass off!
TERRORISM IS NO JOKE!!!!!
Old Billy @ 2:
I hope Bill was scarred on one side of his face. That would make even me believe in Karma.
Fox News, using 300 centrifuges working in series, has apparently spun enough bullshit to reach critical mass.
Seriously, though, I hope the burn victim is okay. I wouldn't wish chemical burns on even the most obnoxious Fox "journalist."
Even though the number of ass hats in the building is way above the national average, I think being fair and balanced until we find out all the facts would be a good course of action.
I'm not sure what is funny about an explosion at Fox News. They don't make any claims as to being good at disarming bombs or have a sign out front that says "Fox News: Bomb Free for
5000 days"rash limpballs cut one?
"!All Hell's Breakin' Loose" KISS
jr @ 8:
Is she one of those lactating mamas in Juggs magazine?
I'm sure the reich-wingers are already making a link to Hillary's appearance today and the explosion. Anyone check out Stalkn'
Malkin or Redstate in the last 30 mins?
Chemical reaction, huh? Faloofa-reilly mixed with bile and bullshit and... kaaablooey!
I didn't know this was ninth grade study hall. Grow up people. Laughing at the unfortunate circumstances and potential pain, injury, and death of others is nothing to be proud of.
a person @ 6:
You're right in principle. Sure: I hope that all office drones and custodial staff are fine and dandy; nobody needs a chemical burn.
On the flipside, I can't wait until this is aaallll the fault of The 'Libruls'. It's coming...
/snark
Old Billy @ 2:
Anything can be funny. I can tell you what is not funny... People telling others what they should and should not think is funny.
Rusty Shackleford @ 14:
Excellent. That's two I've seen in the last ten minutes. You are on a roll, Rusty.
No it's not the fault of "the Liberals", but they are laughing at it....
Come on guys, stop giving them material.
Terrible Post,
A chemical explosion with at least one person suffering burns is in no way funny, no matter who it is. Nicole, I had more respect for you, this kind of dribble should not be posted on this site (sure, post the news story, but how about with a "we hope that everyone is alright" instead of asking for jokes). We yell every time right wing blogs (and their commentators) giddily have fun with a serious incident happening to someone on the political left and now look at us!
Good job guys, now you've given the right wing fodder for them to show everyone how "evil" liberals are.
I bet this will be thoroughly investigated, unlike, say, the anthrax letters sent to "liberal media" outlets and Democratic members of Congress.
bandit @ 27:
Yeah, because we have to play into Right Wing framing, even when engaging in gallows humor.
Whether or not there is anything funny here, I'm sick of concern trolls telling us all to run in fear of providing right-wing fodder. Like other creatures that eat their own feces, the right-wing produces plenty of fodder against the left regardless of what the left does or does not do.
Apparently a cooling station blew up, overwhelmed by all the hot air being spewed by Fox Commentators.
Remember how FAUX news was laughing at Keith Olbermann when he had his office evacuated after receiving an envelope full of white powder?
KO accidentally got prince georgie's columbian package.
Now the people at FAUX are evacuating in their pants.
They'll just blame this on Al Democrats
That's why they don't want to be interviewed on FAUX
They were warned in advance.
You good deed doers are the same liberals that Fox will try blame this on with some conspiracy bullshit. If this sounds hateful, call it as Malcolm X labeled "The hate that hate produced."
Please tell me sean "giuliani fluffer" hannity, bill "orangutan" reilly and the slut & friends gang were right next to the explosion and WERE not HURT
*trying not to feel glee* *trying not to feel glee* *trying not to feel glee*
Someone has been injured.
We don't need to the connect the dots for them.
Let's give it a rest.
Albatross @ 29:
The point wasn't about worrying about providing the right wing with material, God knows they'll make up whatever crap they want. The point is that there should be a limit to what should be considered funny. Nobody hates Bill O'Reilly, Glen Beck, George Bush, Dick Cheney, etc. more than I do, trust me, but that doesn't mean that I would ever want them to be injured or worse. Fired? Yes! Throw in jail? Yes! But hurt? or worse?
The worst part is that the person who was injured was probably an hourly, unionized, maintenance worker. Possibly the type that would even vote for a progressive candidate (it's new york after all, not exactly a bastion of conservatism). You're making fun at his/her expense, not at Rupert Murdoch's expense.
Just as we always claim when it comes to the waterboarding issue.....we should be better than that, and we should be better than this.
I know that we should be better than that, but schadenfreude is a tempting mistress
deezus @ 38:
Don't get me wrong, I had the same type of thoughts go through my head when I first read the story.....it is a tempting mistress, the point is to have a little self control. It's like the time I saw a Humvee flipped over on the way to Lake Tahoe, first thought? "Good you stupid jackass!".... then the ambulance came.....
Old Billy @ 2:
Agree with you, Old Billy. Maybe the disclaimer that's printed at the bottom of the news story linked in the post should be added to this thread:
By posting a comment, you affirm that you are 13 years of age or older.
bandit @ 39:
I'm really trying, dude! I really am!
deezus @ 41:
lol
deezus @ 38:
Lisa Simpson?
bandit @ 42:
It's like when I hear an Eminem song and i think to myself "He is a terrible person, I should not enjoy this", but then the other part of my brain says "but he can rap his ass off!"
Like the president said "it's hard work!"
deezus @ 44:
I thought Ron Jeremy said it first.
Where will they get their meth now?
I too am disappointed in this post. Concern shouldn't be tacked on in the form of a "hope that the injured person is fine" -- which indicates, by the way, that you didn't even know how badly they were hurt before deciding the story was funny. How about getting facts first? There will be plenty of time to make fun later.
Once when I was in grade school the class was chided for laughing at someone who fell out of their chair. We were reminded that they could have hurt themselves if they landed on their tailbone, and that the *first* thing on our minds should have been whether they were okay. Schoolchildren could be forgiven for this error in judgment, but the folks here??
When Keith Olbermann got screwed over by, I think, tne NY Post, he did a special commentary on it pointing out what asshats they were. He ended by saying if something untoward were to happen to *them*... guess what? He would still treat them with respect.
I work right across the street from them. Lots of sirens and trucks but I didn't know what happened until this post.
Given Fox's record I understand the comments.
I agree, we shouldn't be happy if Fox employees were hurt in any way, but let's take a second and remember what they and the rest of the Republican noise machines like to do when tragedy hits the rest of the world...
About the California fires, 10.22.07:
On the October 22 edition of his nationally syndicated radio program, host Glenn Beck stated, “I think there is a handful of people who hate America. Unfortunately for them, a lot of them are losing their homes in a forest fire today.”
10.20.07:
Remember when comedian Rush Limbaugh mocked Michael J. Fox during the 2006 campaign? It seems he was at it again last night on FOXNews’ Hannity & Colmes, where he not only denied attacking Graeme Frost, but went on to mock his voice — Graeme has a paralyzed vocal cord.
9.20.07:
Talking about Andrew Meyer, the university student tasered at a John Kerry speech, Bill assured us that Meyer’s cries of pain were all an act: I’ve been tasered for a story, and all I can say is: He is the biggest wimp in the United States of America.
9.2.05:
Shepard Smith and Geraldo Rivera were livid about the situation in NOLA as they appeared on H&C. When Hannity tried his usual spin job and said “let’s get this in perspective,” Smith chopped him off at the knees and started yelling at him saying, “This is perspective!” It was shocking.
4.22.07:
FOX NEWS brings “civility” to the VA Tech Tragedy—Not!...Cavuto manages to turn the rampage of a madman into a GOP talking point…"VA Tech Massacre: Why the Hatred for "the Rich?"
7.28.05:
” Yesterday morning on “Fox News Live” ( I filled that in ) was basically saying that the Brazilian that the london police shot and killed was actually all part of Al Quaeda’s plan to dress up Brazilian’s and other tan-skinned people and have them run from the police and get shot just to make us look bad. Amazing that Fox always manages to justify anything the U.S. or British do, even when there are MISTAKES made!!
1.6.05:
Tom Delay seems to think the tsunami victims died because they’re not good Christians
4.18.07:
O’Reilly Uses Virginia Tech Tragedy To Trash “Far Left”...On Tuesday's "Factor," BillO exploited the tragedy at Virginia Tech to attack Rosie O'Donnell and paint Americans who think it illustrates the need for stricter gun laws as far left loons. O'Reilly just knew the "far-left" would use this to make a political point about gun control.
(All info searchable here on C&L)
We don't need to sink to their depths, but simply acknowledge how low those depths are...
yeah bill get well soon!
Will FAUX now become vocal advocates for workers' safety regulations?
Katie @ 49:
The Bible says you will reap what you sow,... in their own belief, they're just reaping it.
Maybe GOD was behind this,...
Don't worry, I PROMISE you guys you'll have stuff to laugh at once they start broadcasting stories about this.
Why would anyone think anyone at FAUX was freebasing?
I thought they were against anything being free.
Johnny Thief @ 52:
Remember ''Five in the Niggon''? You forgot to mention that Bath Tub Head Gibby stated that the innocent man, that was shot to death by London police, deserved to die.
this will be used against the dems, especially hillary and for guiliani, mr.911.
just in time for oLIElly's program?
the liberals did it!
Um surry gEneral Betr...petraeus.
Obviously the only rational answer to the obvious terror attack on Gods News, is to immediately install Cheney as Emperor for Life, with Rudy as his executioner. Oh yes, and for our safely, we have to remove all freedoms from anyone who makes less then US$1million/year.
It's for your own good. You don't want to be next, DO YOU????????
Good job guys, now you’ve given the right wing fodder for them to show everyone how “evil” liberals are
Sorry, Bandit, though I agree with you on principle, all I'm thinking is how if it were MSNBC, we'd be howling at O'Reilly going on the air and saying Keith Olbermann and Dan Abrams brought it on the network - in other words, if the shoe were on the other foot, the winguts would waste no time blaming the victims.
I have been a long time fan of this blog, but this post was really appalling.
I'm not concerned about the injured person. If you work at FOX News, you know you're doing evil.
Fertilizer can be dangerous!
Dr. Matt,
Please, keep adding. There's more than enough hypocrisy to go around...
Yeah... I am loving the "if it was the other way they would be cheering" argument, because the reason I read this blog is because it reminds me sooo soo much of the right wing nut blogs....
Send in Rudy to tell us if it is going to collapse or not.
Z @ 65:
If you take a step back and read the comments here, you'll see that they really aren't much different than freepers. Blind hate/rage that gets posted here a lot. I like a majority of the submissions, but the commenters leave a lot to be desired.
Mr. Anon @ 68:
Nothing like fake reich-wing outrage to muster up a chuckle. Thanks for the laugh.
Mr. Anon @ 68:
HAHAHAHA!!!!
If we were like the freepers, we would be saying that Fox studios had explosions because they hate Jesus Christ or eat babies or fuck their daughters or (fill in the blank with ridiculous hyperbole). Saying "what goes around comes around" does not rise to that level.
Go troll elsewhere.
It is natural to want to express anger toward the creepy part of Fox "News". Despite the fact that many sick and depraved people work at Fox "News", we should save our anger for the real issues. Let us not let them drag us down into the sewer where they so often speak and write from. Should you have any, keep your schadenfreude to yourself and your close friends and family and other trusted confidants. Besides, in this instance, the person injured has nothing to do with the jerks who make and propogate the propaganda there.
Chris from Ohio @ 63:
totally, it's like being a contractor working on the 2nd Deathstar.
It was a gas leak from most of the talk show hosts that appear on Fox Entertainment. One was learning a magic trick and let out more gas than usual for Fox entertainment channel.
As John Bolton once said, "you could blow the top 10 floors off and nothing would change". He was talking about Fox entertainment, wasn't he?
Fox entertainment and all you reich wingers should GO TO HELL. If you believe there is a hell it will be filled with Fox entertainment people. What we need is another 9/11 commission to investigate the Fox gas problems. I heard it smells like sulfur.
Bullshit contains highly flammable methane gas that has been known to spontaneously combust at times.
Lovely. Many of you are the same as the Right wingers. Flipside of the Freeper creeps.
Sorry to all the pacifists out there, but I (a former pacifist) was really hoping someone finally bombed that den of journalistic iniquity. Oh well...
Well, if you keep mixing bile, vitriol, oxy-contin, and thorazine suppositories, sooner or later you're going to blow the crap out of the place.
I do not know if the google ap story will stay with the link on this story.
Conintelpro had it down right. The only person to get hurt was a person from the NY State department of Environmental Protection. I am not sure why this happened. I do wonder how this will be spun. It will not be spun publicly but will be spun privately to ensure that nobody is safe.
The chemical that fell was trichloroisocyanuric acid, or biocide, used to keep heating and air conditioning systems clean in commercial buildings
Mr. Anon @ 68:
Crooksandliars.com has really being doing an amazing job. I normally don't read comments on here, but this post in particular made me wonder how people would react. I guess no matter where you are its a bad idea to wander into the comments section.
Here's to the injured worker's speedy recovery...
I'm afraid our country's wounds from Faux will take much longer to heal (unless, of course, they ramp up with new "Simpsons" and "Family Guy" episodes)...
BTW, can O'Lielly's or Clannity's head really explode in a vacuum??
no humor in this event...
I'm normally have a morbid sense of humor...but I think joking about someone getting hurt is in poor taste...However, had the person injured been O'Reilly, Hannity, or any of the other righty propagandists...I would be making jokes with with the rest...fuck those tools. I wouldn't piss on those assheads if they were on fire!
fastfeat @ 80:

elysse @ 72:
HEY! But they had GREAT bennies on that 2nd Deathstar...and the cafeteria...whoa!
Humor is a way that human beings deal with fear and uncertainty.
Don't read too much into it that people are making loofah or John Gibson hair-product jokes. It isn't because people don't care about those who might have been injured or worse, it's because we're all scared about these kinds of things happening to us, and making a joke is like whistling in the dark... you do it because you can and because it beats doing nothing, and it might actually make you feel a little less helpless.
(I do hope this event harmlessly shakes up the management of Fox News enough that they suddenly start telling the truth. I'm not optimistic, but sometimes an event like this can have a silver lining.)
This one is going to come back to haunt you guys. You wanna be above the fray? Stop behaving like knuckle dragging wrong wingers. I'm not impressed by Ms. Belle's original post, nor the lame apology.
RALPH @ 13:
Holy shit, who let Ralph in???!!?
Bad form, when you laugh at the misfortunes of those who oppose you, you're treading in Falwell territory. I expect better of this blog.
The silence from the MSM is deafening.
Too bad the explosion wasn't in the basement where Faux Noise broadcasts.
Frankly, I'm shocked - shocked - that anyone would laugh about an explosion at FoxNews!
As the one man who personified their network for me - gone for many years, but still beloved - always used to say:
...No, wait. That was somebody else...
Well, anyway: Words to live by.
(Shocked, I tell you...)
