White House logs are ruled public: Who's There?

MSNBC:

White House visitor logs are public documents, a federal judge ruled Monday, rejecting a legal strategy that the Bush administration had hoped would get around public records laws and let them keep their guests a secret.

The ruling is a blow to the Bush administration, which has fought the release of records showing visits by prominent religious conservatives.

We know they will never give them up because that's how BushCo operates, but I'd love to see them explain why Jeff Gannon visited Karl Rove's office like 137 times. <snark>

I'd like to see the visitor logs to Cheney's Office when he was doing the Energy Policy of our Country. The corrupt Bush Administration will do what they always do when forced to turn over anything criminal. They destroy it. Microfilm that has a shelf life of hundreds of years was destroyed by the Bush Administration showing he was AWOL during his service. Millions of emails were destroyed by the Bush Administration that showed their criminal activity that makes Nixon look like a saint. The video tapes showing the Bush Administration using torture....whoops, accidentally erased. So why does anyone think this is any different? Bush is immoral, a liar and responsible for the deaths of thousands of innocent lives. Then he of all people in the nation pretends to be moral. "Every life is precious," he once said while sending our troops to their deaths on lies about WMD when he was told different, while he or his kids never served a day in the military. Put the Bush twins in Iraq....whoops the war is all of a sudden over. He has a lot of explaining to do. If not in this life, the next.

Judge rejects Bush secrecy claim, says White House visitor logs are public documents
Monday, December 17, 2007
By MATT APUZZO
Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON (AP) White House visitor logs are public documents, a federal judge ruled Monday, rejecting a legal strategy that the Bush administration had hoped would get around public records laws.
The ruling is a blow to the Bush administration, which is fighting the release of records showing visits by lobbyist Jack Abramoff and prominent religious conservatives.
The records are created by the Secret Service, which is subject to the Freedom of Information Act. But the Bush administration has ordered the data turned over to the White House, where they are treated as presidential records outside the scope of the public records law.
U.S. District Judge Royce C. Lamberth said logs from the White House and Vice President Dick Cheney's residence are subject to public records request.

Imagine that, the records of those who enter the "people's house" actually belong to the public, and not George bush.

Who would have thunk it?

This makes me wonder if that is the real reason for so many months at the "western White house" in Crawford? I would imagine those would be protected from such scrutiny given that is private property

Here's the sequence: White House Visitor logs always public information; enter Jeffy Lube Gannon/Guckert; enter Abramoff multiple times; Abramoff arrested/Bush seals visitor logs (ahem....something to hide Mr. Prez?); Abramoff sitting in prison outing the Bush administration and 90% of the GOP. Any wonder Bush did another CYA move on sealing these records. Let them be open since they are public information and let's get to the bottom of Bush's criminal activities. Better year: Impeach the crim and then do a retrospective court trial based on facts ascertained from the visitor logs.

If they'll fight to hide this kind of innocent information from public view, you really have to wonder what they have been up to for the past 6-7 years. Where there's smoke . . . .
And will the current Democrats in Congress do anything about this? Of course not. They'll talk a lot, make a lot of threats and then they'll turn and run away from Bush and Cheney with their tails between their legs.

The courts should not have to tell these people, what they already know. They know full well there should be nothing secret about the government.

That's why they hate it so much. If you are following the laws and rules as they are laid out, there would be no problems at all.

These people know exactly what they are doing and we need to continue pressing the point, there should be plenty of over site and accountability, up to and including jail time for the violators and there are many.

When you take a job in the government and you use it for the purpose, these people have done. You will be accountable to the American people.

Over site and these investigations into the conduct of Bush and this team of criminals needs to continue, to show the American people exactly what is going on, using our government and in all of our names, buy an illegal President.

This information should help in the efforts of overturning much of the damage they have done and convictions of many of them.

Gannon was obviously kneeling in front of Rove and loving it.

I think the rats may be getting a little nervous. January 2009 is not that far away, and their attempts at covering their tracks of criminality are only going to meet more and more resistance in a presidential election year.

When these bastards leave office, and they no longer have chimpy's unconstitutional signing statement/executive privilage B.S. to hide behind anymore, they better damn well hope the Supreme Court has their back. Otherwise their sorry asses could be in for some deep serious karma.

Especially when the people get hit with the full affect of the coming depression, and realize the collossal amounts of taxpayer dollars these SOB's stole during their 8 years of taxpayer subsidized crony debauchery.

And there probably won't be a whole lot of pardon's coming from a new Democratic President and Democratic congress that in all likelyhood, will have large majorities in both houses.

It might finally be the time to play "fuck the neocons". First contestant please?

Craig Lister @ 81:

A hollow victory. It, like all others, will be ignored by this "transparent" government. If not, then you can bet all those logs will have been mysteriously: deleted, lost, evaporated, not recollected, national security, executive privilege, not part of the executive, eaten by a dog, left for the next president to handle, held in secret bunkers in Iran and so it must be invaded to recapture these logs while democratizing them over there instead of over here unless you want to cut and run cuz i'ts hard work putting food on your family, which is uniquely American so a one-fingered salute to the haves and have-mores cuz the decider decided and, uhhh. ummm...can't get fooled again.....

ROFLMAO!! Thanks, that was a great burst-out laugh provider.

Everyone needs to take back any implication that Rove might be gay because NO! I will turn straight. //shudders//
