David Shuster smacks The Scar over his trying to pump "Bush's foreign policy" as successful
By John Amato Friday Dec 28, 2007 1:01pm
The Scar says that Republicans are suddenly very pleased with George Bush's performance as the Decider including his....cough...cough....foreign policy. David Shuster wouldn't let him get off with painting a bright and shiny picture of the Bush Doctrine---I'll let David lay it out for you....The middle east is a complete disaster and....anyway...

Shuster: Joe, I like you a lot. but I cannot let you by with what you just said about "George Bush" and his foreign policy successes. Are you really saying that the President's foreign policy in all these places has been a success that most Republicans think---it's been a success? Because that's not the polling that I'm seeing and that's not what I'm hearing from Republicans in Iowa who say: "Look, we want somebody we can trust. We want somebody who is smart, but we also want somebody who is competent this time.
------
Joe, I don't even know where to begin....If the US had taken care of business in Afghanistan along the Pakistan border, had taken care of al-Qaeda, had sent 150,000 troops there instead of to Iraq which had nothing to so with the al-Qaeda attacks on 9/11, then al-Qaeda and the Taliban, they wouldn't have the influence, the destabilizing influence they have over Pakistan today...
The Scar tries to downplay Shuster's reporting by saying that since he's a former member of Congress---then Shuster doesn't really know what he's talking about because he's not a former member of Congress. David just laughed at him on that one...Joe Scarborough is the guy that did a segment called "Is Bush an Idiot" and then followed it up with a few more segments defending that take...As any election cycle approaches, a wingnut like Scarborough will always try to get back in the good graces of their party after trying to tell the truth for a short period of time.
You can check out the polling trend on Bush' overall job performance here. Not very good.

The dark cloud of cognitive dissonance hangs heavy over the U.S. Homeland, especially with Republicans who think we were attackd by evildoers in Iraq on the Nine Eleven/Anthrax attack, they believe the earth is like 6,000 years old, and that some guy is going to fly out of the sky and save them from all their sins, and debt. I stayed up late last night reading that Bush Book, Dead Certain. It scared the crap out of me! He's always shouting out for ice cream or a hot dog. He seems like a nice guy, but President of the United States, holy crap. 2008 is going to blow your minds, literally. Bush, Israel, Dubya Dubya Three, World Revolution...
Couldn't get the main link to work.
I did click on the "Bush is an idiot" segment. Oh, how painful. Oh, how embarrassing. And ... oh, how tragic.
Typical of Scarboy to once again defend Wanton Boy (my all-time favorite nickname, courtesy of the incomparable Studs Terkel).
Is Bush and idiot?
Well, if you have to even ask then it's quite obvious what the answer is.
How do I love thee?
Let me count the ways.....

Call me crazy but I simply don't believe it, when President Bush, President Mush, The Pakastani and US Governments, The Pakistani and US Military, and Fox 'News', CNN, MSNBC, NBC, ABC, Cbs, WAPO, NYT, TIME, Newspeak, and the Editors of the Albuquerque Journal all proclaim that the investigation is over, she hit her head on the sunroof, it was Al Qaeda's fault. The Toilet's Fault?
???The U.S. government, which sees nuclear-armed Pakistan as a crucial ally in the war on terror, has pushed Musharraf to keep the election on track to promote stability, moderation and democracy in Pakistan, American officials said???
Uh Democracy in Pakistan? Bizzaro World. Bush was appointed President! He ignored terrorist warnings? He has gutted our Freedom?
I don't understand how Americans just forget about Nine Eleven? Osama Bin Laden? Lying to start an aggressive war of conquest? A lost war of conquest, we can't win because it was a pack of lies. We torture, We kidnap, We terrorize, We are Israel's *****.
Both parties have been lost to Corporate/Military/Security interests. We have rigged elections. Free Speech Zones, 2008!!!
Dan Abrams,
Did you give Joe an extention to "prove you're not liberal"? How much mother-breatherdom are you going to tolerate? Joe's defending waterboarding wasn't enough?
And I'm not much better for writing and instead of AN. I promise that I'm not drunk. But if I was, I'd probably think I was qualified to be POTUS too. Either that or go hunting. Both seem to provide similar gratification these days.
Joe Scarborough filibustered that segment with Reich-wing blather.
He effectively silenced Shuster, who actually has a thinking brain in his head.
The arrogance of Scarborough is something he can never hide.
Now now people.
If you listen very carefully, Joe said that he is just telling David what some republicans told him.
He did not specifically state that he actually believed what he was saying.
I saw this live when it happened and just thought to myself "How the HELL does Tucker Carlson have a show and David Shuster doesn't"
I believe a sea-change is about to occur where all of the jingoist on television (Scarborough included) will be phased out and the well...smart people will start getting more air time.
Olbermann was just the beginning!
What Scar is trying to tell us is that the Republican base is really really stupid.
Not sure I can argue with that.
Joe's been saying asinine things for weeks now. I use to like him, now I can't even stand to hear his voice.
Try as they may even those who are paid for the propaganda the proof is the Bush Administration has increased terrorism and made the United State the real Axis of Evil.
Mrs. Bhutto would still be alive if Connie and George hadn't used her to protect the Nukes they gave to Pakistan. Now Musharraf had his own plans to eliminate the competition and he did. The US officials helped him by using the old plan used to assassinate John F. Kennedy. The story should to Al Qaeda and the surprise information with a fake story on how she died. Yes the bump on the head killed her while the picture shows a gunman shooting her. Musharraf's military protection moved away at just the right time. As ordered by President Bush continue the elections with one name on the ballot. The winner with only one vote Musharraf and that's an open fair election. Americans believed the magic bullet story the US Warren Commission told and moved on as it was the United States Government that assassinated Kennedy. That fake story wont sell in Pakistan as the people aren't so gullible. As ABC poll showed American think President Bush is the most popular person in the United States, even knowing he's a liar/thief/murder.
Aaron @ 10:
Don't bet on it as long as Rupert Murdoch and others like him are controlling the media.
It all depends on your point of view.
I'm sure bin Laden thinks Bush's foreign policy is extremely successful.
six years hence, bin laden is alive and well, ordering the assassination of important world leaders, in the most fragile areas of the world....
and we've spent a trillion dollars fighting terrorism...
only dishonest fools could believe in the competence and effectiveness of the commander in chief through all that.
only dishonest fools would suggest or believe that this assassination is not belittling and crippling to the legitimacy and efficacy of republican policy....policy as it has been, and as the new breed promise it will be if they win...
Good Grief!

'Methods for Quashing Conspiracies'

Republicans live in a bubble. Joe Scarborough is very good example of this. Republicans only listen to Republicans. The reality on the ground is never considered if it interferes with conservative ideology (fascism).
Yeah! you tell 'em Joe! All the Republican candidates should totally embrace the Bush foreign policy -- think of how it'll play out next year! Maybe Joe's really trying to undermine them.... muahahaha...
I hate to get into semantics, but every once in a while it's useful.
Let's take the word 'policy'. It can mean protocol, plan of action, method of approach, an agreement of assurance.
Now 'foreign'. It can mean strange, unknown, far-away, weird, different.
Now, whatever it is Bush is doing, if we can agree that it is a different, strangely weird, previously unknown, far-out method of approach, we could call it a 'foreign policy'.
The real test would be to determine what foreign nations call it, and we did, but since this is a family blog, we can't tell you what they called it.
Bush is a cruel and cunning thug. He bullshits with language because he lost complete respect for the American population when he was appointed president in an instrumental power stunt.
Bush's contempt for Americans is stunning.
The problem is that his audience gets fed such a stream of misinformation that they can actually believe such claims. I have a friend who gets all his "news" from right wing talking heads, and he thinks things are going swimmingly in Iraq.
" I know that human beings and fish can co-exist peacefully" What sort or fish vs man war games are playing in that little pin-head???? Well, george, is nukyular weapons off the table??
When the Bush Cabal leaves office there will probably be a massive worldwide celebration.
Which will no doubt further reinforce the wing nut belief that the whole world is out to get them.
Scarborough kept emphasizing that it is the Republicans, not him, who are believing that Bush's foreign policy of aggression is working. That may be true but the bigger question is who will the voters believe in 2008, an overt hawk like one of the Republicans or a hawk in sheep's clothing like Hillary Clinton?
You can divide the nation, dietarily, between anti-bushies, and bushies.
Anti-bushies eat salads, turkey, salmon, veggies, milk, good food.
Bushies gobble sh*t-burgers, and communion wafers, and suck sacramental wine.
"There's no hero's anymore son! In order to make money you got to have a bogeyman!"
That should be the MIC's mission statement.
Bush also weilds unassailable power. He truely "owns" Americans in an astonishing fashion.
Damn those Truthers, they were right.
That's right Joe, every Republican I hear keeps repeating the phrase ,"Thank God we have George Bush showing us how foreign policy should be managed, and thank God George Bush started a war in Iraq." ....... Yep, they are all counting their blessings for being able to run on George Bush's record. Joe Scarborough, willing to say anything for a Republican if he thinks it will help them keep control of the White House and the Supreme Court.
Q. Is Bush an idiot ? A. Yes .
The very first test for Congress is to determine if you know what you're talking about.
If you do, instant disqualification!

Translation: Musharraf is going to side with his terrorist Buddies who set themselves up in Pakistan while we've been fu*king off in Iraq.
This country has the heart of a thug and has for some time. You heard the argument - its getting better in Iraq, as if that legitimizes what was a criminal war. The public will buy it.
Furthermore, this administration will be held blameless. They therefore will not be seen as the criminals they are. I expect them in fact to blame the democrats - and it will work. Why? The democrats will not be able to point to the actions of this administration since they did nothing to prosecute them - implicitly identifying the policies and actions as 'valid'. Instead, they will be on the defensive themselves. Put there by the criminals they didnt indict. They will spend the entire campaign season defending themselves. They have nothing to use as an offensive. If they had prosecuted and vigorously defended the constitution after 2006 this wouldnt be the case. But they didnt. They will not be able to use any of that material in the election. They will be attacked and they will take a defensive posture and probably loose the whitehouse.
The only candidate that will (and can) go on the offensive is Edwards. If Edwards is the nominee - given his history with corporations - I would triple his security detail. He is the biggest threat to the 'establishment' and I'm not at all certain the establishment will tolerate it.
I hope I'm wrong. But I dont see change coming.

The Scar...what a great name for him. By the way I saw him in the Atlanta airport about a year ago and I couldn't believe how unimpressive he was in person. The word Dork comes to mind...I realize that is just a purely subjective take on him but that was my impression. By the way what he said on video is such pure partisan hogwash it's hard to believe he can believe what he says.
Sorry, I like Edwards as well, but your argument for him does not make much sense. Despite now admitting it was a mistake, he did vote along with many others to give Bush a free hand to invade Iraq.
Shuster is correct in my opinion. Bush's foreign policies have screwed up so many nations and put others on a more aggressive footing because they see a weakened United States and with that, an opportunity. Iraq and Afghanistan in particular have not changed. The Taliban in Afghanistan are gaining more territory and forcing NATO, the U.S. and Karzai into talking to them. One does not talk to the stated "enemy" unless they are losing. Iraq to has not changed. Al Sadr and his militia remains, the Turks are bombing the PKK and the Sunnis can change right back to being "insurgents" if they feel they are getting the shaft.
What we are seeing here is a polishing up of Bush's foreign policy for his legacy and due to the fact that its an election year. Bush will cut any deals and kiss any ass that he has to make his foreign policy turd shine. Hell, I bet he even paid off Al Qaeda in Iraq.
Scarborough and the rest of Bush's base will fall for this once again. None of Bush's crimes or screw ups have went away, they are just being ignored or presented in a better light.
To John and the Crooks Team here, I left a messege on a post the other day about this very show, because I thought it was stunning,( it was the first time I ever watched the Morning Joe and laughed) and I was afraid it got missed- Shuster handled it like a pro, speaking Truth to Joe's illusions..and Joe did indeed implode....thank you for this, and for the other tidbits you added ( like the polls)...
Ah, joey, you ass wipe. . . when we were just in Afghanistan we had the world with us. I think maybe we could have even gotten premission from Mushy to go into the NWFP and get the Taliban and get Al-Qeada.
I don't think they'd be regrouping and growing stronger as they are today since bushy stared and is continuing their biggest recruitment tool - the war in Iraq
Only someone on the Right would actually put this as a question.
Which companies board of directors would hire a CEO with Bush's business track record? His lack of communicating, his non desire to innovate, blind dependence and trust in cronyism to perform, total lack of accountability and defiance to account his actions to his employer. Just as a resume starter?
As for some sort of political bias to create Bush to look stupid and other republicans as ignorants arses? The argument in Bush's defense that he simply stumbles a little at articulating? Fact is that this character defect of Bush's causes his psycho problems that make him compensate his frustration & anger from this, that it causes him to use overzealous authority in place of persuasion that he can feel "the compensated lesser man" which is documented in Bush's "I'm the decider".
How can Bush articulate any Presidential directions or orders and expect such to be followed out when they are not clear? Answer: Cheney. But Cheney didn't run as President did he? Anyone think that Cheney could have won a Presidential election as the top bill candidate?
The floatation of thought if a President has to be "Brilliant" (not smart and aware) is desperate defense of Bush and what is the republican 27 per-centers going to stand for in the '08 election?
How about a President that doesn't come from the royal family, or a long line of aristocratic wealth that believe this wealth is their evidence of brilliance, courage, intelligence, and God's chosen.
Actually a President that is not earning billions in the private sector and seeks a 170 thousand dollar job as President.
How about this as a question:
How brilliant is a man that all his life he placed protecting his inherited wealth, monetary earnings over all other issues in life. With Billions in inherited net worth. Never having to actually work himself at succeeding (nor having succeeded) or attaining the knowledge to discern. Seek the job as President for $180 thousand a year?
I hope what Scar says is true and that Republicans embrace Bush's foreign policy on the campaign trail. Please, please, oh please embrace his record. Nothing in the world would be better if your a Democrat. The delusion of conservatives never, ever, ever ceases to amaze me. Truly breathtaking.
Did you all notice the beginning of what I think is going to be a Republican meme. . .
blame it all on Rummy
@anon
i agree with most of what you say, but think you're way wrong on edwards...
edwards is bought and paid for by the corporate thugs, and an edwards victory would mean that it's good ol' boy politics yet again, and the cycle will likely never be broken (if this national condition can't force true change)
edwards went to dc, did nothing, changed nothing....he doesn't deserve another try, as there are others as qualified or moreso who have either affected real change or haven't yet been there and failed miserably....
Can't polish a turd, Scar. But you and all the other dumb shits that voted for him twice will buff it to death. Anything but admit your stupidity and culpability in making this clown King.

... my argument for Edwards? I made no argument for Edwards.
I was trying to use reason - to learn something - not rhetoric to prove something.
Keyword: EX-Congressman.
One day Scarborough will call the WarPigs for the spades they really are, the next he's kissing their collective asses. Which is a little ironic, most politicians in D.C. excel at being two-faced ass-kissers. Maybe he just wasn't that good at it.
Where's the solid proof that the 'surge' is working?!?
And, did anyone else notice the grim "I hate your guts" look on Scarborough's face when Shuster was refuting his crap?
lopaloo102 @ 47:
The reason I mentioned Edwards in the context I did is the dichotomy between his actual numbers in polls and his treatment by the MSM and corporate america. It appears he is being defeated in the primaries (by business and MSM) to keep him out of the general. (Studies indicated that he would win by the largest margins in the general while the others would probably suffer due to misogyny and racism - people lie in polls about politically incorrect hatreds) Just my impression. If true, this raises the question - If it was important enough to them to stop him in the primaries and he became the candidate in the general - how important would it be to stop him in the general. All the studies indicate that if God were a republican he couldnt win against Edwards. For that reason - were he to get the nomination, which I dont expect - I would triple his security detail.
As to your comments about his accomplishments in the senate, you are right. I dont know what that means. I have heard that junior senators cant and dont buck the system. But what do I know, never having been there.
This is not a promotion for Edwards. I prefer Kucinich.
Their preemptive war and surge logic is;
If you rob a bank and kill a bunch of people in the process and kill even more after the alarm goes off to keep from getting caught.
The bank robbery was the right thing to do.
Lets keep this basic..If as a working professional i was wrong as often as Bush has been during his two
terms, i'd have been fired a long time ago and likely blacklisted from my industry. These brain dead wingnut
pundits like Scar don't seem to grasp this concept.....George Bush is not a competent leader. He couldn't successfully run an ice cream shop let alone our country. He is a failure, plain and simple!!!!
Let's stick with whether or not the man is competent, which is easy to judge. Bush picked a fight with a third world country 1/12th our size using the best military in world history and almost a trillion dollars and the best he can do is eke out a tie. Case closed.
chervilant @ 51:
The surge probably is working. That is the wrong question. All it proves is that you can subjugate a population by force. The question is, what is going to be done about the US starting a criminal war? Temporarily quelling a population does nothing to address that question.
What you must do is not let them ask the wrong question and use the answer as if it were to a different question.
They are implying that if the surge works and the violence ebbs, then the war was not illegal.
That surge can work and the war can still be illegal. Germany pacified France during WWII for the most part. Germany remained the aggressor.
Surge shmurge. The US is still the aggressor.
As a note, dont expect the War - yes war - between Turkey and Kurdistan to suddenly resolve. This could and probably will get very ugly.
My God! Joe Scarborough doesn't just drink the Kool-Aid, he's hooked up to an IV unit full of it!
Yes, Bush are an idiot. ;)
I love Scarborough's reasoning. He says the nasty democrats blame him for everything and then he wants to give Bush credit for elections in France and Germany. Classic.
anon @ 49:
The point is, Edwards will have learned a hard lesson; Be sure that the vote one chooses in Congress can pass Constitutional muster.
If I understand the main point of your post, I don't think it really matters who the Democrats choose as the nominee because the Republicans will undoubtedly smear them all over the place (I wouldn't be surprised if the Republicans brought out a child who claimed to have been sexually assaulted by the Democratic nominee.).
Joe, it's intellectual curiosity.
Joe's best line, I thought, was (paraphrasing now):
"Despite the constant drumbeat from the press for the last seven years alleging Bush's failure are everything -- from Iraq to Katrina to whatever -- the polls I'm seeing show that Bush's numbers have been improving and are continuing to improve."
Or smthg like that.
CONSTANT DRUMBEAT FROM THE PRESS FOR THE LAST SEVEN YEARS ALLEGING BUSH'S FAILURES ???
yeah right ..
Scarborough is deluded. He is trying to make others believe that, right or wrong, Bush's actions were for the best.
Scarborough is twisted...wait for Bush to leave office. Either in handcuffs or not, summarize him afterwards, not just yet.
oncall @ 60:
I suspect you are correct. The difference is, studies show that nothing will matter if Edwards is the candidate in the general. Republicans have their best shot of winning against Clinton, then Obama. And they are leading in the MSM at the moment. I dont think that is coincidence. The MSM parent companies want to run against them not Edwards it appears.
It appears that no one can even run close to Edwards in the general - which is why they are trying to stop him in the primaries.
I'm for Kucinich. Kucinich couldnt win.
MountainMan23 @ 62:
I think he meant the last seven weeks. If he did he is wrong about that as well.
Start packing scar, Shuster is moving in....thank god.
Shuster is a tool. Watch him interview Ron Paul on 12/27, and you will see a smug arrogant ignorant SOB. The MSM will give the illusion of being investigative...but they only tell half of the truth...enough for lemmings to continue believing their BS.
God, doesn't someone pay Scarboro to say this shit or does he just have his head that far up his own ass?
Say, whatever DID happen to that young intern in Scar's office?
Regarding post No. 67: If Shuster is a "tool," what does that make Scarborough?
Is Bush an idiot or inarticulate? Is it an either/or proposition?
anon,
i don't agree with you that edwards is most likely to win in general election vs a repub....i would bet those polls you cite haven't taken into account "likely voters"....i believe that an establishment candidate such as edwards or clinton will turn away many independents (who aren't voting for a party, but for a true change), and thus the republicans would win by a slim margin-- those independents who walked away and refused to play another game of elect the rich white boy (or, as some refer to this segment, the 'typical apathetic american')...
you'd get the huckachuck rallying the racists and the zealouts, and they'd be storming the polls to protect america from the homosexuals, the immigrants, and the pagans (who cares about the terrorists), ....the independents refuse to participate, and the repubs win again...
i think obama offers a true chance though....(and i think he could win even with kucinich as his running mate)
...it's like asking if Hitler was a killer or a racist.

You must be talking about Ron Paul.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - Islamic militants said Saturday they had no link to Benazir Bhutto's assassination, dismissing government claims that a leader of pro-Taliban forces in Pakistan carried out the suicide attack on the opposition leader.
Bhutto's aides also said they doubted the militant commander Baitullah Mehsud was behind the attack and accused the government of a cover-up.
The dispute and conflicting reports about Bhutto's exact cause of death was expected to further enflame the violence wracking this nuclear-armed nation two days after the popular former prime minister was killed in a suicide attack.

I don't agree that Edwards couldn't pull in the independents because I keep hearing about Repubs that are willing to consider him. U.S. troops are leaving Saudi base;
The 10-year presence will all but end by August as the U.S. shifts its forces in the region.
"As many as 10,000 American personnel and 200 aircraft were assigned to the remote desert base at the height of the latest Iraq conflict. Troop strength already has been cut in half, U.S. officials said yesterday. Eventually, only a small number of American troops will remain, primarily to train members of the Saudi military."

What a load of crap! Joe needs to check what in his med's, these nuts need to be taken out to the tool shed for some stern discipline. Yeah right, Bush didn't shake the hornets nest the mideast. I suppose when the fecal matter hits the air disturbance device a few years down the road it will be the next presidents fault and Bush won't take any blame.
The "Scar" isn't and hasn't been a member of congress for quite sometime. He was VOTED OUT sometime ago apparently due to voters not liking his performance. If I were you, Joe, I wouldn't be bragging about being in Congress at any time.
just saw "charlie Wilson's war" and came out thinking if you changed Afghanistan to Iraq and Russia to US it'd play pretty much the same, except for calling it covert.
While flipping channels, I happen to roll up on this segment and it was absolutely fascinating to see Sir. Joe on the ropes.
This is not the first time David Shuster smacked the hell out of one of these right wing bigots.
He blasted one of the right wing Congress women for not knowing the names of solders, killed in her district and it was an outrage, these ass holes made him apologize for it.
My hats off to this guy, who seems to be trying real hard to break out of this right wing rut this media has all of them blocked in.
I saw this exchange live between Scar and Schuster... and was SPEECHLESS for a few moments before I started yelling "WHAT A FUCK-HEAD!" at the TV screen.
Joe Scar inadvertantly and blatantly admitted to his viewing public that he BRINGS TO THE PROGRAM WHAT THE REPUBLICANS TELL HIM TO SAY! He's a PARTY-LINE-talking points-BULL-HORN that should be FIRED IMMEDIATELY by MSNBC.
I think it was only out of a sense of professional courtesy that Schuster didn't laugh at him and call him an IDIOT to his face. Joe Scarbourough obviously is floating a new line of talking points that probably came straight from KKKarl Rove's office here in Austin:
Let's call Bush's foreigh policy A SUCCESS. Of we get enough dunder-heads like Joe Scarbourough to say that out loud... then people will start to believe it, and they will vote for another Rebublican in 2008.
You wouldn't want debate, would you, Joe. Because you'd look like a fool. So simply keep your jaws flapping, saying nothing.
I guess 70% of the country is not informed. As long as the GOP is getting back in line, that's all that matters.

protect us for all these fucked-up reichwing supporters.
lie after lie after lie
these guys have their heads shoved so far up each other's asses that they will never see light.
Morning Joe is so much better when he's not there!!! Should be Morning Mika... she is excellent and a top notch news reporter . Smart as her Dad.
Maybe we should bombard NBC/MSNBC to 1st, dump Scarborough, 2nd dump Tucker, 3rd give David Shuster his choice of Tucker's slot, or the morning slot, 4th offer Mika the other. Mika is now on the time slot right fter Morning Joe, and doing a good job, better than the two clowns,
With an expected WH take-over by Democrats, and more Democrtas in both Houses, maybe MSNBC should position itself to become the Fox equivalent on the enlightened side of the political spectrum.
Only then will O'Reilly be correct in asserting that MSNBC is leaning left. It certainly is not now.
That's why I stopped watching Scarborough. On his evening show, when he'd be objective about Bush, I thought he'd be honest. Oh contrare', that was not to be. He's really schizophrenic. One doesn't know where he'll land, on any issue, on any given day. He used to defend O'Really, until O'Really went after NBC, his bread and butter.
Filabuster - Joe - bull!!! Shuster correct on all counts.
Joe is in over his head--he is a real light weight--he was supposed to be on vacation this week. Mika did one of the best jobs on television covering the Bhutto assasination. She was careful in her statements and very professional. Within 20 minutes of Bhutto's death she had very knowledgable policy people on who knew the politics of Pakistan and Afghanistan--for an American network, MSNBC was very fortunate to have had her on air.
I had been watching the BBC when the announcement came that she had been hit and when it was announced she was dead I went to MSNBC--I'm not easily impressed but I sure was with Mika.
MSNBC should let Scarborough, Tucker and Matthews out of their contracts--none of them serve any value. Check out TVNEWSER. and look at their ratings--Matthews and Tucker's are in circling the drain.
Joe's a fucking idiot. And someone needs to look more deeply into the poor intern who was dead in his office.
Scarborough---another smug, condescending, and arrogant tool of the neocons, pretending to be competent. Like he really can speak authoritatively for all Republicans and what they think. If this hack could think he would be dangerous.
Good job, Shuster.
I fell sorry for the kids of people like these jack asses on our media. They will all suffer for the shit their parents did to this country.
forget his verbal flubs -- what about examples like the time he was asked by a college student to comment on how private military contractors were being policed (since they are in areas where the government isn't strong enough to enforce any laws). Bush didn't even UNDERSTAND the question and had to ramble off some stuff about having to make sure that he would ask Rumsfeld the question. I mean, are you kidding me?
ronhohn @ 99:
Don't forget to get rid of Chris Matthews. He's the trainer of distortions and right-wing propaganda.
The Republican Way Of Rephrasing Reality
Every since I started following politics, I have noticed one consistent thing about the Republicans: They use rationalization for creating their contemptuous lies.
Instead of admitting they got something wrong, the Republicans would rather rephrase reality. By setting the stage for a different interpretation of their bathroom behavior, their acceptance of bribes and their lock step support for the murderous Iraqi war, they position the issue for academic debate. Instead of addressing what they do as illegal, we debate the issue and treat their actions as a difference in opinion. This may be a Karl Rove strategy, but it has not fooled us all.
The American people are tired of this tactic. What they have witness this administration practice is not only illegal, but it is morally wrong. Now, at the end of the year, this bastard, Joe Scarborough, is trying to look back on the year with a business as usual perspective. I don't think so. Why don't Scarborough let one of the relatives of a dead Iraqi sum up what Bush and Republican supported polices has done for them. Let the Katrina victims state how Republican polices help them to get back on their feet -- make sure the victims are black because they cannot return to their homes for lack of government support.
Now the economy is becoming the next shit sandwich the Republicans are trying to make us eat. For the last 4 years, they have been telling us the Bush tax cuts have done wonders for this nation. Wrong again, most American cannot live with the current gas prices soaring out of control. What a mess. Thank you Mr. Republicans you deserve a long vacation. Its coming in November 2008.
Joseph
I'm still waiting for the mention of the David Frost/Benazir Bhutto interview this past November, just 7 weeks ago. About halfway through, she mentions one possible person who is a threat to her as "....the man who murdered Osama bin Laden."
It's on youtube - check it out.
Joe 'The Scar" (on the arse of humanity) is too republican for MSNBC. He belongs on Fox Noise. I agree with all of 99 ronhohn's suggestions!
Scarborough listed six points why Republicans consider the Bush foreign policy to be successful:
1) We haven't been attacked since 9/11
2) Things are becoming more stable in Iraq because of the surge that the president pushed
3) Iran is not developing nuclear weapons in part because of the Iraq invasion
4) Bush's foreign policy put Gaddafi in his place
5) North Korea talks about giving up its nuclear arsenal
6) The French president and German Chancellor are more pro-American than pre-George
Ye Gods! Is he serious? Here are some reasons why these Republicans are dead wrong in their assessment. More reasons invited.
1) Why does he think that the US foreign policy is keeping US safe? It hasn't helped other nations. Also, it is impossible to say what would have happened during a Gore presidency as we are dealing in the hypotheticals here. Not to mention that the Bush presidency isn't over yet.
2) Why was the surge needed, Joe? 'Nuff said.
3) You probably forgot that even though we now know that Iran suspended its nuclear weapons program back in 2003 the Bush administration tried to push for a war with Iran and lie about the weapons program. Some foreign policy.
Should the Bush administration be praised about the matter, if the invasion of Iraq inadvertently led (in part) to the suspension of the nuclear weapons program?
Why does Iran feel it has to have nuclear weapons? Why would they ever give their nuclear weapons to the terrorists in case they are able to build them? What was the role of the European Union diplomacy in all this? Etc.
4) Was it Bush's foreign policy that put Gaddafi in his place? Or, again, did the EU and British diplomacy have something to do with it? Why do Americans always think that everything happens in a vacuum; that the Bush "doctrine" was the one that got results?
5) North Korea is very clever/brazen about when to "give in" and when to turn the screws tighter. It has consistently blackmailed all the Western powers, especially the USA. He forced the Bush administration to the negotiation table by announcing that it has nuclear capability. And when he got what he wanted, he let's the Bushites claim success.
6) How is it the success of the Bush foreign policy specifically that the democracies in Germany and France elected more business oriented leaders? The arrogance of the thought!
My opinion on Bush, his administration, his intellect, his foreign policy, and his ability to lead this country comes down to this......January 20, 2009 can't come soon enough.
Joe - "blah blah blah blah blah blah...." he did a great job running out the clock so David couldn't get the time he deserved debunking the crap spewing out of Joe's mouth, and what a grandstanding wiener. Yep, he was definitely a politician.
I like the way that Joe the Schmo tried to use his former credentials to bolster his credibility. The only thing missing was him thumbing his suspenders, "Yeah, I was on a committee". That was the first sign that he was in trouble. The second sign was him talking to himself. Then there was his overall condescending tone, "David, David, David.....David......David, David, David."
Thanks for your insights 'Joe the Clown'.
Particularly ludicrous is his claim that somehow Bush is related to more US-friendly leaders being elected in Germany and France - is he inferring that Bush somehow influenced these elections? Perhaps Mr. Scarborough is unfamiliar with how Bush - and his policies - poll across Europe. France and Germany elected right-leaning politicians for entirely domestic reasons - I suppose that is simply too obvious for Scarborough to understand.
As far as Pakistan goes....ha. Bush was the one who recognized and legitimatized their ownership of nuclear weapons, along with India. Scarborough is a propagandist, it is plain to see.
Hands down, GWB is without a doubt the single WORST choice the USA could have EVER made. I would like to tidy up the reasons for his being elected as partisan spite (just to give the public GOP credit for NOT being so stupid as to consider what I witnessed in both presidential debates from GW as "intelligent responses") but partisan spite could NOT (should not?) have over-rode common sense for what would be best for this nation... right? It would be like placing a CHIMPANZEE in the driver-seat of your child's bus just to spite your child's outburst he had at breakfast. NOTHING makes sense for having placed such a BOOB into the office of president... nothing... I come up speechless over what we have collectively done to this nation and the world.
WHERE THE F IS OSAMA BIN LADIN???????? HE DON'T EXIST YOU LAME ASS"S STAND UP AND TELL THE TRUTH...............
Proves the total desperation and lying all Reslugs., like Scar, will go to get their ignorant, hateful and brainwashed base on board.
In Scar's "Idiot" segment, he didn't give one bit of evidence that Bush is a shrewd person. Plenty of evidence of Bush being an idiot but none of being shrewd, only claiming that he may be shrewd. It seems that if Bush has a brain that performs basic motor functions, that is good enough for Republicans.
All this just makes me think back to the day after the 2004 election when the headline of a London newspaper asked the question, "How could 50 million people be so stupid?"
Pretty well sums up the situation.
Republicans only seem pleased by the standard that they have been suicidally depressed for several years now. At the moment the surge (and the new policy toward sunni tribal leaders) has given them a single ray of hope so they naturally overreact and treat it like the golden ticket to wonkaville.
If the surge cured cancer, it still aint ressurecting the Bush admin's reputation.
yes lets WAIT AND SEE what fucken happens when we pull the troops out
Kaios so why are we there in the 1st place
OIL for troop blood
and prifts for chenney contracts.......
big big lose for repukes 2008
Once a Republican always a Republican. Can't live with them, can't trust them.
YES!
Scarborough is such a weasel. I was zapping through cable the other morning, trying to get information on the Bhutto assassination and got this freak talking about how Bush was so right about "the surge." Is he kidding? I think we know that the main difference in the level of violence in Iraq is that it's the holiday season and the news outlets are focusing on who is shopping, who is not, etc.
I also think that there are fewer reporters than before in Iraq, therefore less on the ground news. Just the way the Bush Adm. likes it. They can make up their own more successful numbers. You go, Joe. Americans will believe anything if they just don't have to focus on bad news too long.
So how many have left the Republican't party recently anyhow? And the ones who are staying are gonna be mostly the loyal Bushies anyway so of course he's gonna retain a high percentage of that selected population even as the numbers go down.
Scarborough + Bush supporters + Bush = Dumb Dillusional Idiots
How can a man most everyone now admits is inarticulate, intellectually shallow, incurious and unimaginative also be intelligent?
Lollimom @ 9:
I just wondered if he threatened Shuster with his job again, like he did when David and Mika bitch-slapped him on TV defending waterboarding was not torture. The threat worked on Mika, I guess...
Q Is Bush an Idiot? A Is the Pope Catholic? Do bears shit in the woods? Is the sky blue?
