The more we get to hear Huckabee---the more we understand that this candidate running on extreme religious fundamentals is unqualified to lead a culture that is made up of many, many different belief systems, or none at all. Check out this clip from Meet The Press and watch his wingnuttia in action. It's a sight to behold. Please, pray for him. Think Progress and Page OneQ have more...(h/t Heather)

MR. RUSSERT: But when you say aberrant or unnatural, do you believe you're born gay or you choose to be gay?

GOV. HUCKABEE: I don't know whether people are born that way. People who are gay say that they're born that way. But one thing I know, that the behavior one practices is a choice. We may have certain tendencies, but how we behave and how we carry out our behavior--but the important issue that I want to address, because I think when you bring up the faith question, Tim, I've been asked more about my faith than any person running for president. I'm OK with that.

MR. RUSSERT: But you said you would ban all abortions.

GOV. HUCKABEE: Well, that's not just because I'm a Christian, that's because I'm an American. Our founding fathers said that we're all created equal. I think every person has intrinsic worth and value...

MR. RUSSERT: But many Americans believe that that would be, that would be you imposing your faith belief...

UPDATE: Jane reports that Huckabee held a press conference today saying:

Huckabee just held a press conference where he announced that he made a negative ad against Romney -- Lord forgive him -- but at the last minute he decided to turn the other cheek and not broadcast it. But just to show he wasn't shittin' y'all, he decided to show it to a few of his closest friends at a press conference that included Tim Russert, Joe Klein, Barbara Comstock and a few hundred journalists and bloggers of varying degrees of noteriety.

Full transcript:

MR. RUSSERT: Peggy Noonan, a woman of faith who writes for The Wall Street Journal, said that sometimes it appears your philosophy is "This is what God wants," and that doesn't encourage discussion, it squelches it. And, and this is what you wrote in your book, "Kids Who Kill," in 1998: "It is now difficult to keep track of the vast array of publicly endorsed and institutionally supported aberrations--from homosexuality and pedophilia to sadomasochism and necrophilia." Why would you link homosexuality with sadomasochism, pedophilia and necrophilia?

GOV. HUCKABEE: Well, what I was pointing out is all of these are deviations from what has been the traditional concept of sexual behavior and men and women having children, raising those children in the context of a, of a traditional marriage and family. And, again, taken out of the larger context of that book, speaking about how so many of our social institutions have been broken down.

MR. RUSSERT: But do you think homosexuality is equivalent to pedophilia...

GOV. HUCKABEE: Oh, of course not.

MR. RUSSERT: ...or sadomasochism?

GOV. HUCKABEE: No, of course not. I didn't say...

MR. RUSSERT: But this is what concerns people. This, this is what you did say about homosexuality: "I feel homosexuality is an aberrant, unnatural and sinful lifestyle." That's millions of Americans.

GOV. HUCKABEE: Tim, understand, when a Christian speaks of sin, a Christian says all of us are sinners. I'm a sinner, everybody's a sinner. What one's sin is, means it's missing the mark. It's missing the bull's eye, the perfect point. I miss it every day; we all do. The perfection of God is seen in a marriage in which one man, one woman live together as a couple committed to each other as life partners. Now, even married couples don't do that perfectly, so sin is not some act of equating people with being murderers or rapists...

I hope I've answered these questions very candidly and very honestly. I think it's important for us to talk about it. But the most important thing is to find out, does our faith influence our public policy and how? I've never tried to rewrite science textbooks. I've never tried to come out with some way of imposing a doctrinaire Christian perspective in a way that is really against the Constitution. I've never done that.

GOV. HUCKABEE: But, no. It's not a faith belief. It's deeper than that. It's a human belief. It goes to the heart of who we are as a civilization. If I believe that your intrinsic worth is not changed by your ancestry, your last name, by your IQ, by your abilities or disabilities, if I value your life and respect it with dignity and worth because it is human, then that's what draws me to the inescapable conclusion that I should be for the sanctity of every and each human life. That's why we go after that 12-year-old boy in the woods of North Carolina when he's lost, not because he has greater worth than someone else, but because we believe he has equal worth as everyone else. I like it that in this country we treat each other--at least we should--with that sense of equality. Our founding fathers penned that in the Declaration of Independence when they declared...

MR. RUSSERT: Some Americans believe that life does not begin at conception, and that it's...

GOV. HUCKABEE: Well, scientifically I think that's almost...

MR. RUSSERT: But...

GOV. HUCKABEE: ...a point that you couldn't argue. How, how could you say that life doesn't begin at conception...

MR. RUSSERT: Right. Do you respect that view?

GOV. HUCKABEE: ...biologically?

MR. RUSSERT: Do you respect that view?

GOV. HUCKABEE: I respect it as a view, but I don't think it has biological credibility.

MR. RUSSERT: And what would happen to doctors or women who participated in abortion?

GOV. HUCKABEE: It's always the, the point of trying to say, "Are you going to criminalize it?" That's not the issue....read on

MR. RUSSERT: Well, if it, if it's illegal, it would be.

So the guy who denies evolution has the stones to bring up "biological credibility" when contemplating when life begins.

You can't make this stuff up...

"Tim, I’ve been asked more about my faith than any person running for president. I’m OK with that."

hey gov asshat, you oughta be ok with that....you are the idiot who made it an issue

or was it someone else who made that xmas commercial with the shining cross in the background and talked about jesus

wonder when we are gonna catch this jerk wacking some guy off in a public mens room

I'm no scientist and I can't say for certain whether or not people are born as complete assholes, but I can say that carrying out these asshole tendencies is a choice. Maybe Huckabee could explain to us why he chooses to be such an asshole.?

Come on, everybody, sing!

"I'm a sinner,
you're a sinner,
he's a sinner,
she's a sinner,
wouldn't ya like to be a sinner, too?"

All hail the Dr. Pepper pentacostal trinity. (;>

This is one scary Republican. Most are a bit more subtle in pursuing ultimate power for The Party.

I just watched "jesus Camp" last night. I'm scared. Its like a madrassas for Christians, same thing, different deity. This fundamentalist deserves the Darwin Award. No doubt he will do himself in with a gun.

WOW!!! Hahahahahahahahha..................

GOV. HUCKABEE: I don’t know whether people are born that way.

Well then, my advice to you is to shut the fuck up.

How's that for clarity, you sack?

so sin is not some act of equating people with being murderers or rapists…

Funny he should bring that up..

I'm no far of Gomer, but you need to stop smearing a candidate. He did not say one equates the other. He is definitely the wrong choice but the man is smooth in his responses. I hope he does crash and burn. He views are definitely fundamentalist.
GOV. HUCKABEE: It's always the, the point of trying to say, "Are you going to criminalize it?" That's not the issue.
This is an interesting way to skirt the topic as well. Although I doubt he would be able to do anything of the sort, he views are still dangerous. C&L, if want more credibility in your reporting/headlines keep the sensationalism out, and you might get broader appeal.

I don't think that religious right will agree with him that a Human belief is deeper than a Faith belief.

When I was 20 I thought that someday people like this would still be around but be so marginalized that they could be ignored. 40 years later and I am afraid they will be just a short step away from the power to send this country to a living hell.

Is christian based sociopathy a requirement for public service?

This is one god fearking furit loop. I am sure we will soon be hearging from bin laden saying this is a guy he can work with.

I wasn't expecting to see Bin Laden again until after the writer's strike.

I can't type today.

Bin Laden and Huckabee are of the same ilk. Just a different God.

Just more evidence that the only religious people who live in reality with the rest of us are religious moderates --- a.k.a. "people who have an emotional attachment to their religious traditions, but who no longer derive their sense of what is true from religious dogma".

The faithheads are going to destroy this country, and possibly the world.

Just say no to christian sharia!

Thank you Mike, and good-bye. Your 15 minutes of fame is almost over.

Ha Ha....Osama bin Publishing

Russert misrepresented a pro-choice talking-point, somewhat. No one argues that a fetus isn't alive, simply that there are certain trimesters wherein the fetus is no more intelligent, cognisant, or self-aware than a plant. Consciousness, and the ability to feel pain, require a functional nervous system and brain. That is science.

I actually do appreciate his views regarding human lives and worth to a certain extent, of course. There are millions of Americans who agree with that view, in fact. What needs to be remembered is that those who are pro-choice aren't pro-abortion; no one is in favour of life ending. At least, no one worth considering...

MR. RUSSERT: But you said you would ban all abortions.
GOV. HUCKABEE: Well, that’s not just because I’m a Christian, that’s because I’m an American.

Here we go! If you are not in favor of banning all abortions, you are not an American! Raise your hand if you are still proud to be an American.

Herbert @ 11:

I don't think that religious right will agree with him that a Human belief is deeper than a Faith belief.

I agree with you Herbert that the faithful should have a problem with that statement.

When he said "I hope I’ve answered these questions very candidly and very honestly", I wonder why he has to 'hope' he answered 'very' candidly and 'very' honestly. How come he couldn't just say "I've answered these questions candidly and honestly". It makes me think he knows he's been less than candid and less than honest.

As far as "why we go after that 12-year-old boy in the woods of North Carolina when he’s lost" for some reason Mark Foley popped into my mind!

Holy crap. Meet our new Reverend 'n Cheef.
Hey world-- this blind, unquestioning follower of bronze-age goat-fuckers will restore your faith in us! Really!

I think Huckabee is going to be the new President of the USA!

Instead of playing the 9/11 card - hello Rudy! - he has gone for 2 issues that mainstream America seems to despise most of all;- homosexuality and abortion!

I even think Americans hate these 2 things more than terrorism, corruption, murder and rape!

Even die hard gay republicans will support Huckabee - don't know why but they will? Dick Cheney's daughter supports the Reps even though they denounce her "lifestyle"!.

The red states will NOT vote for an African American or a woman. Nice safe christian white heterro married man will be the winner - and Huckabee has these traits in droves!!!

Of course once he is elected - we'll no doubt discover he or one of his staff had an abortion or is a closet homosexual - but that will be too late cos he will get in!

Fingers crossed Americans don't make the same mistake they did in 2004! (The 2000 election doesn't count cos the Supreme court rigged that one!).

Wow, Huckabees answer on homosexuality had an Alan Keyes tone to it.

That be one crazy governer!

Well he's a "Praise the Lord, pass the ammo" kind of hypocritical Talibaptist asshole, isn't he?

I'm not at all about praying, and they say there are no atheists in foxholes, but I think it's time we all dropped to our right knee, crossed ourselves real good and ask fervently beg The Lord™ to deliver us from evil, and to protect us from His followers of this particular type, even though it hasn't worked for the last 13 years, since the Contract on America.

Jesus must be spinning in his grave over this kind of Schmukabee shit.

But one thing I know, that the behavior one practices is a choice.

Unless you're a liar and a cheat. Then it's Bill Clinton's fault.

Our founding fathers said that we’re all created equal.

Women who are raped not included.

Holy Huck! this guys is scarier than shit. Anyone who wants us to go back a 100 years, vote Huck!

He wants to ban abortion "not just because I’m a Christian, that’s because I’m an American"?

Oh really? The rest of us are what then?

What a complete and total idiot.

nutbag, fer sure!

"Well, that’s not just because I’m a Christian, that’s because I’m an American. Our founding fathers said that we’re all created equal. I think every person has intrinsic worth and value…"

And in the days of the FFs, people didn't think the fetus was a person until the quickening.

The Huckster is just picking and choosing what he wants to believe and then rationalizing those beliefs...

I personally want to know how many men Governor Huckabee has chosen not to sleep with...and how many he has. ;-p

If it's a choice for gay people to be gay, then straight people must be attracted to men and women too, but choose only to fool around with the opposite sex.

Huck's idea for illegal immigrants is to send them back, then charge a fee to to come back after applying for the right. He said any of their children who born here, and thus were American citizens, would have to go back with their parents.

I guess that's better for the kids, after all where would rethugs send a kid who's parents were deported, Jesus Camp?

MR. RUSSERT: But you said you would ban all abortions.

GOV. HUCKABEE: Well, that’s not just because I’m a Christian, that’s because I’m an American.

WHAT THE FUCK?!?!? This guy is WAYYYY beyond dangerous. This guy actually believe the complete and total shit that is spewing out his mouth. I wonder if he would agree to a compromise and only abort the gay fetuses.

I love it when bible thumping moon faced red necks try to use science in their arguments. Then in the next breath tell you the earth is 9000 years old and men were walking around with dinosaurs in the garden of eden. Man what a totally fucked up country this is. Can't we deport all these troglodytes to some useless place, like Oklahoma or Iowa? Ooops, that second one wouldn't work since there are too many there already.

Huckelberry should worry about his own gigantic son - the sociopath in the making, who likes to torture dogs to their death.

are straight males born that way?...........he would if he could but he can't because he won't......................I'm gettin dizzy.

But Huckabee is perhaps a Wannabe?

The urgency to procreate with a global population of over 6 billion is diminished. This has led one AIDS and queer activist to quip, “Heterosexuality on an overpopulated planet is a psychosocial disorder.” In the immortal words of Edith Massey in the role of Aunt Ida in John Waters 1974 film, Female Trouble, while encouraging her nephew to be a “nelly,” she notes “I worry that you’ll work in an office, have children, celebrate wedding anniversaries. The world of the heterosexual is a sick and boring life.” Her nephew, an avowed if somewhat twisted heterosexual lad, replies, “Sometimes I think you’re fucking crazy.”

We really MUST help the poor, sad heterosexual to abandon this sick, unnatural lifestyle! Poor dears.

Honestly, some of my best friends are straight...Love the sin. Oops. Er. The sinner. Something like that. By all means, do read Confessions of an Economic Hit Man while all are at it.

And, again, taken out of the larger context of that book, speaking about how so many of our social institutions have been broken down.

Um... bullshit. This asshole is a preacher? Shouldn't he, um, read the damn bible then? Perhaps he would then know that supposedly God commanded MANY relationships that were polygamous (many wives to one man). He is lying about the bible, isn't that a sin? Oh I forgot, only bigoted baptist preachers with lyposuction are allowed to cast stones, and are exempt from their own rules. And what does that have to do with homosexuality? If straight parents fuck up their marriage, it isn't because of "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy", it's because people are selfish jerks, in general, and marriage is hard work. Does he really think that straight guys, just can't help themselves if there are gay fellas around? Too much temptation I mean, really. Wow. This guy is repressing something, because that is just not a problem that I (or anyone not gay that I know) has ever had.

The only social institutions that have "broken down" in the last hundred years are:

a) people with black skin are no longer considered sub-human, and are full citizens with all the rights of any American including voting
b) women are no longer considered sub-human, and are full citizens with all the rights of any American including voting
c) children are no longer to be used as surrogate slave labor (see a and b) in factories (but at least we still can abuse Mexicans and Guatemalans -- they'll fight hard to keep that one)

I'm sure Mr. Huckabee is disgusted by this terribly "broken institutions". Why can't we go back to the golden Old Days indeed, massah Huckabee?

But public institutions that encourage necrophilia? Good Lord help them, what the fuck are they doing down there in bible-thumping Arkansas?! Seriously, maybe things really ARE that bad down there... which should be enough to prove that evangelical, militant Christianity makes things worse, not better. I propose a canoe expedition to find out. Ah... you go first and tell me how it turns out.

Here in the real world, we may not all be militant, intolerant "Christians" but at least we don't rape our dead, or strangle dogs to death for fun. Something tells me these people like Huck and his family really DON'T "know Jesus". I've read Jesus' stuff, and there ain't ANY of this bullshit in there.

Whew! That link has a whole lotta crazy in it (not enough to be amusing, however). And why are those sites always in 120 point all-caps? IT'S LIKE ALL THE UBER-CHRISTIANS HAVE TO SHOUT OVER RATIONAL THOUGHT!!!!!!!1111oneone

Well, not all. These guys seem all right, if you feel compelled to take your kids to church. Disclaimer: I went to this flavor as a kid, until I freaked out as a teen because I really never did believe in God, and couldn't fake it in good conscience, once I'd seriously thought about it. To which the pastor (one of the best humans I've ever met) just laughed and laughed. I pleaded, "No, I'm serious, I can't come here anymore and say these words because there IS no God! Jesus might have been good guy that made a lot of sense, but he wasn't divine either!" I was quite concerned about my hypocrisy. He simply chucked again, smiled, patted me on the back and said, "Don't worry about it. I know you. Your heart is in the right place. You are always welcome back." And he meant it (20 years later, I might be a bit rougher 'round the edges, but was definitely a 'good kid').

A Christian leader like that... wow. Never said a breath of heat or intolerance (except perhaps a tinge about the hypocrisy of the condescending rich, which he frowned at). Seems even longer ago than it really was... I don't know that they are all like that, and to this day I don't abide by any of the mystical smoke and mirrors (the trinity? honestly, who's crazy idea was that?!). But I'm just sayin' they aren't all like Huck...

I have a sneaky feeling he is not really going for the presidency. He is going for a mega church and TEE VEE show. There's a hell of a lot more money in it.

Rudy @ 68:

Did he just say, in essence: As long as you're not gay, we respect all human life?
And by the by...doggy style, oral, hetero sexual anal, hand jobs etc...sex...are also aberrations according to his religion. So...bite me, Mike Huckabee, you thinly veiled, two faced, liar that a bunch of people will actually fall for.

Religion yes...things created by preist's.

Yet when the originator of ClusterHuck's 'religion' taught relatively little on Sex.....

can you see it now little pamphlet's at church....Jesus on Sex,Who would Jesus do?, ....

as I understand the bible and someone correct me if I'm wrong but Jesus's only

admonition was against adultry(wanting something that is not their's, yes I understand the primitive property right's of the

Hebrew's)

Yeah, we really need another backward bible thumping moron in charge.

So, Huckabee believes homosexuality is "aberrant, unnatural, and sinful" and equates it with necrophilia and pedophilia, but says it with a sweetening dose of "all of us are sinners" humility. Is it any wonder that "love the sinner, hate the sin" strikes many people - regardless of sexual orientation or religion - as phony, patronizing, and cruel?

When will someone in the press corner that right wing freak and ask him, when did he chose to decide to be heterosexual?

Its a choice right?

Huckabee has already had 14:57 minutes so..14:58....he's almost....14:59 .....toast 15.

To say that life begins at conception is like saying single-celled organisms should be entitled to all the rights and freedoms given to any American citizen. It is this kind of self-delusional, religious "logic" that makes me so fearful of where this country seems to be headed. Will someone please teach this overzealous wannabe preacher candidates how to read and analyze scientific findings before extolling their religiously-derived inexactitudes pertaining to these so-called biological "truths?!"

I think Huckabee is a gay man living in denial and hypocrisy. I really do. I also think he has no faith in what his Creator intended him to be but chooses to live as if his Creator made a boo-boo. I really do.....do.

equinox @ 10:

This is an interesting way to skirt the topic as well. Although I doubt he would be able to do anything of the sort, he views are still dangerous. C&L, if want more credibility in your reporting/headlines keep the sensationalism out, and you might get broader appeal.

Response: No, Governor, that's exactly the issue!

How do you "sensationalize" the unbelievable wingnuttery we are being exposed to daily?

Red State Update had the best take on Huckabee:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=-z2F96rCnHg

Hucksterbee aside, I have noticed Russert has been handling hi Republicans roughly. This is different from his past behavior.

So the question is:

Who is he handling with kid gloves?
Who is he advancing for his masters?

Women must cover their faces in public, gays should abstain from all physical contact with each other... what's the fucking difference? Love the sinner, hate the sin... even if it doesn't infringe on anyone's rights to life, liberty or property? This mentality is a total copout. When did Huckabee choose to be such an asshole? He didn't! It's all in God's hands. Huckabee doesn't hate fags, GOD hates fags. Huckabee is just a humble obedient god-fearing American. This is the ultimate wimp-out - it absolves a believer of all responsibility. Oh, but the queers have free will. THAT's a choice, but as for Huckabee, no, that's all god's predestined plan. Don't question it! Then after this bigotry he accepts no personal responsibility in explaining - just that God hates fags and that's that... he actually has the unmitigated audacity to go on to say that everyone is created equal. This guy is a total douchebag, and BTW, doesn't this picture remind you of Huckabee's dog-lynching son? http://www.gazzola.us/MTP/Images/uf7.jpg

On one hand, you have a woman you has rights and choices. On the other hand, you have a child that has rights and choices. The only reason I would be for abortions is in rape situations. But doing that would lead to many false rape charges. It's a toughy, for sure. The main problem I have with abortion is, try to imagine a world without: Mozart, Einstein, Galileo, Tesla, etc. Great minds that forged our present day, each of them could have been aborted. Imagine what it would be like if all where aborted. Each child has the potential for greatness, and I believe they should be given that chance.

A woman has more responsibility than a man, PERIOD. Because she alone has the ability to bear children. A man has but once choice when it comes to sex - do I or don't I want to participate. A woman has this same choice, but also another given to her by nature - if I choose to, I could become pregnant. Both adults have to make their minds before a child is even possible. In my mind, once they have made their choices and it results in a pregnancy, now you have to factor a third persons choice - the child. And I don't know for sure, but I can almost guarantee, if you could ask the child if it would like to live or die, it would choose to live.

Personally I think abortion is a cop-out for moms that didn't give enough thought to their choice. And because of that, their child will die.

I pray to his god to let him win the nomination. It'll be like Dukakis running again. He'll get lucky to 35%. Please let him win the nomination.

He is truly a very dangerous man and I for one don't want my grandchildren, who we have taught to be tolerant and kind to others, growing up under anyone like him. How the H**l did he get this far in the polls.

bettestreep @ 27:

I disagree with your claim that America hates Gays and abortion more than "terrorism, corruption, murder and rape". Some probably do, but I doubt there is even a majority. Most of the hatred comes from the neo-con christian leadership. Hopefully, we are going to turn the tables on these lunatics soon. They have been tolerated for many years. But, I believe a big reason for that is because people thought, "Well they are christians, how bad can they be if they are promoting the teachings of Jesus Christ?" Things have changed and they have exposed themselves to reveal their true selves. They are attempting to overthrow the constitution and build a theocracy. I think these people have had their 15 minutes. That is also why I disagree with your prediction for Huckabee. Unless something very bizarre happens, we do not put a neo-con preacher in the big chair. Think about it. We are counting the days until we see the last of the current one.

Alrighty... at this point I'm just gonna say it boldface.

What a freaking douchebag.

No seriously - usually I try to inject some level of intellectual argumentation into it... but this is just so bad... the best I can come up with is that.

Firstly - if you DON'T KNOW if people are born gay or straight, then DON'T PRETEND ITS A CHOICE!

I mean what he's essentially saying is - "If you're born straight, then its your duty to make babies... but obviously only within the bounds of my particular definition of marriage and sex where the women is submissive to the husband" While "If you're born gay, become celibate."

Wow...

Nice narrow worldview there man.

Honestly - Huckabee is *EXACTLY* the kind of bullshit faux Christian I grew up with. This is the man *I* would like to run for office against. He could very easily have been my pastor; and that makes me very... annoyed; that anyone with such a low understanding of how our country is put together could even get this far.

And I thought Brownback was bad... good grief.

When are these stone age fossils going to stop opening their mouths, and running for public office? Don't give me this 'divinely inspired' crap when these hominids are trying to keep everyone back in the dark ages, by following the bible/holy book as their rules of life. C'mon, for one thing, it was written by MEN, during an extremely paternalistic period, and then edited for content by rulers and religious leaders.

Statistical Fact: 95% of pedophiles are heterosexual males. Most molested children are molested by their heterosexual family member. But the only ones that make the news are the 4% of the gay pedophiles, because oh no no no, can't have good Christian heteros in the news for diddling little girls and boys, now can we? (makes disgusted noise) What a bunch of lying hypocrits.

Christian heterosexuality is deviant behavior including pedophilia, rape, and incest.

don't leave your children alone with a christian heterosexual men or women. They are all pedophiles, rapists, practice sadomasichism and necrofeelya. Usually while sporting large poofy purple hair for geeze us.

It's no big secret. The polls have already told them that he's their worse option in the presidential race. The Huckster couldn't beat Kucinnich (no offense to his fans because I like him too). Yet the conservatives are to stupid to do anything about it. If they had half a brain combined they'd realize Rudy is their best chance. He says 9/11 and the undecided will vote for him.

Gee, pander much? What a kook! As a big, gay homosexual masochistic necrophile I really look forward to possibly murdering(?), tying up and having sex with Mike Huckabee's unborn grandchildren. Oh bring it on!

"Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world"

I like the old way I used to get lumped together: Gay, Lesbian, Bi-Sexual, Transgender community. But now, I'm hooked on the new way, because I choose the homosexual, masochistic, pedophile necrophilia lifestyle! It's so refreshing, like I never knew what to choose!

kerplunk @ 107:

Why do Christians want to vote for a rapist enabler?

False prophets.

They talk the talk; and most people are too dumb or willfully blind to see they aren't walking the walk.

Christianity - TRUE Christianity; is about love, peace, and forgiveness. As a religion, Christianity should never have resulted in the death of anyone except the people who died as it was persecuted in its early years.

But of course, as was noted earlier, the Bible itself is man-made (and thus I don't trust it myself); and further, the concept of Christ has been totally distorted throughout the ages.

Its no different than how in Japan during its feudal period, Bhuddism was turned into a violent religion. ANYTHING can be made a violent ideology; no matter how peaceful or loving it sounds. What makes it worse is that for those few of us who seem to have a functional understanding of the religion, we get people from the left and right bashing us at the same time. The right wingers because we're 'soft' or 'too worldly' or whatever; and the left (which I honestly count myself a part of) because belief in God is apparently 'stupid'.

I've never tried to force my religion down anyone's throat, and I never ever will. Its a faith of attained after walking away from a truly awful church in my youth. This isn't the faith of someone who just wants to do bad things all week, then go to church and say "Ok, God, I did bad things this week; we cool?" - this is the faith of a man who genuinely believes that love and peace can and will eventually prevail against violence and hate.

Sorry for the rant; sometimes its hard to hold that back though; its frustrating to be a left wing Christian, because all too often it feels like the people who should be standing shoulder to shoulder with you are just as keen on jabbing you as the other side. Not that I can totally blame some; the church has done just about everything it could to piss people off since... well, its inception. Just frustrating is all.

I wasn't expecting to see Bin Laden again until after the writer's strike.

There was a video of "him" either today or yesterday, while the strike still continues...

I saw this on tv last night, and honestly, i find him to be normal. Even though he's religious, i don't see him as what the blog entry claims him to be. I think ppl just try to lable him as some extremist, but i don't get that from him.

MR. RUSSERT: But this is what concerns people. This, this is what you did say about homosexuality: “I feel homosexuality is an aberrant, unnatural and sinful lifestyle.” That’s millions of Americans.

GOV. HUCKABEE: Tim, understand, when a Christian speaks of sin, a Christian says all of us are sinners. I’m a sinner, everybody’s a sinner. What one’s sin is, means it’s missing the mark. It’s missing the bull’s eye, the perfect point. I miss it every day; we all do. The perfection of God is seen in a marriage in which one man, one woman live together as a couple committed to each other as life partners. Now, even married couples don’t do that perfectly, so sin is not some act of equating people with being murderers or rapists…

People are born gay, no one is born to cheat on their wives. What this Christo-Fascist double talking snake oil salesman is basically saying is that if you are gay...since you are born that way...you have not hope of salvation. Whereas if you are heterosexual who has a wondering eye while in a committed...non sinful marriage....you sin for a moment when you lay that buxom blonde but that Christian man is redeemable because he's a heterosexual if he goes back to his wife and keeps his zipper zipped. Whereas in the Christo-fascist view gays have no hope of ever being redeemed since being gay is not a lifestyle choice.

In other words. Huckabee is Osama bin Laden without the turban, the bombs or the airplanes.

No one WANTS to believe that they were wrong. That's just human nature. I get that.

But the time used to be when the average American would know when to cut their losses. I believe King George Too put it best:

Sorry, they already have.

Your point is taken, kerplunk. I have recently read "American Fascists: The Christian Right and the War on America", by Chris Hedges. As bad as things currently are, they can become much worse. However, you are correct to point out that this is happening right now. Did you see the Christiane Amanpour documentary "God's Warriors"? I watched it last week and there were a few parts which I found disturbing. The main one was seeing the christian right using physical confrontation and intimidation tactics. Many of these neo-brownshirts are teenagers whipped into a frenzy by leaders who are absolute psychos, in the mold of Jim Jones. It does not take a great deal of imagination to see the possibility of some very bad juju coming from this. Somehow I do not think the drafters of the constitution imagined this as a potential outcome of granting blanket 'freedom of religion'.

Has anyone noticed the change in Tim's interviews? For the past month, or so, he seems to have become more aggressive and asking the tough questions. Maybe the blue collar guy from Buffalo is fed up with the crap too?

GOV. HUCKABEE: “I feel homosexuality is an aberrant, unnatural and sinful lifestyle.”
…But one thing I know, that the behavior one practices is a choice.

And because of confused teachings from the likes of SUCKABEE, Larry Craig “CHOSE” to live an openly heterosexual lifestyle. Therefore, I feel heterosexuality is an aberrant, unnatural and sinful lifestyle.

Homosexuality=Pedophilia/ Choice=Criminal

So then logically Republican = Bigot

makes sense to me!

Idiot Russert dropped the ball just like the MSM did when Bush made the exact same comments about homosexuality. He tried to brush it off as "but we are all sinners". Huckabee even said he sins every day. The logical follow up would be "Well how specifically have you sinned today?". Because he is most likely thinking similar to Bush that when he stubs his toe or drops a sandwich, that he might sin by cursing. But that is vastly different than saying that homosexuals like Mary Cheney are literally basing their life around a sinful love. And in fact Huckabee would have to admit that he considers Mary Cheney to be deeply evil since she not only willfully sins by practicing homosexuality, BUT SHE ACTUALLY EMBRACES IT (that is the definition of evil - not just an accidental sin).

Would the brush off that Huckabee and Bush used have worked with the media if they said "African-Americans as a race practice a sinful lifestyle"? Because that is exactly the same thing as his condemnation of gays. He could then poo-poo it by saying "Oh, but we're all sinful, whites too". But everyone can see through Huckabees bullshit.

The Democrats could not lose against Huckabee, and then we can get back to good old fashioned political corruption - rather than the criminal gutting of the Constitution and the American Ideal that the GOP have undertaken during the aberrant leadership of the Bush/Cheney Oligarchy.

Go Huckabee!

Freedom @ 94:

Think RREEAALLLLYY hard about this one -

Do you remember anything from when you were 1 year old?

Do you remember when you were born?

If you asked a one month old fetus if he'd like to live or die what do you think his reply would be?

WHY do you have to break these things down to the level a 5 year old would understand to TTRRYY to get certain "adults" to understand these simple things?

GOV. HUCKABEE: "Well, scientifically I think that’s almost…"

'Scientifically'? I thought folk like Huckabee steered clear of such things as science (evolution).

Be nice to Huck, he's doing us a favor. If he doesn't get the nomination the Kristian right will all stay home on election day.

I am afraid of this man. Anyone who votes for this theocrat deserves what they get.

It's those of us who would never vote for such a nut job who may suffer under his rule should there be enough stupid people in this country who do vote for him. American Taliban is alive and well in huckabee and others like him.

HulksHeroes @ 127:

I'm getting a good laugh out of watching the stage of neocon goons try to "out tough" the guy to the right or left. I could REALLY enjoy myself if I could get that nagging mantra out of my head that says "America is really stupid enough to put one of these dumb bastards in charge of the whole country". That is one scary thought.

Please, oh please....let a "good Democrat" take control and turn this whole f*cked up country right side up again.

I fear your worries and concerns are valid - more than half the people in this country are stupid or ignorant.

Call me an asshole but I really do believe that you should pass SOME kind of test before you are permitted to vote.

I saw this on tv last night, and honestly, i find him to be normal. Even though he's religious, i don't see him as what the blog entry claims him to be. I think ppl just try to lable him as some extremist, but i don't get that from him.

That is what everyone said about George W. Bush in 2000. He a nice pleasant man that just loved Jesus. He was a compassionate conservative. It is painful to watch people fall for the same tricks again.

No one WANTS to believe that they were wrong. That's just human nature. I get that.

But the time used to be when the average American would know when to cut their losses. I believe King George Too put it best:

"There's an old saying in Tennessee... I know it's in Texas, it's probably in Tennessee... that says, fool me once, shame on... on... shame on you. No, wait... fool me... uh, you can't get fooled again!"

Kids these days. The don't remember the important kind of knowledge: Common Sense. You pushed the red button twice now, and not only did no food come out, but you were subject to a painful shock each time.

Now. Third time. Do you push the Red Button again? Or try the Blue Button for once? Think hard...

LO(FUCKING)L!

This is PARTICULARLY true for independents that are on the fence - we EXPECT Republicans and conservatives to be total fucking retards and vote the wrong way.

You can lead an asshole to water...
