Edwards earned his wealth by helping people that were wronged by the rich and powerful that inherited their wealth. How do you earn your income? Are you another GWB?

Nobody has pointed out that the NY Times editorial pages are quickly becoming a subsidiary of the Weekly Standard. I find it hard to believe that hiring former Weekly Standard Editor William Kristol will provide a fresh point of view, when the NY Times ALREADY HAS former Weekly Standard Contributing editor, David Brooks!

Oil just bounced off $100 for the first time ever. It's currently trading at $99 and some change. Analysts are blaming rising violence in Nigeria and Algeria, and weak US manufacturing data reported this morning.
Oy, the Kristol hiring is just beyond the pale.
The details about the Bhutto assassination are troubling, if sadly unsurprising.
I like the Golden Dukes, but bemoan that they need to exist.
The fact that Edwards has made money in his work doesn't disqualify him from noticing the widening gap between the haves and the have nots. He grew up the son of a mill worker. I think he probably knows what living from paycheck to paycheck feels like, and I think he understands the difference between management and labor. I know that as an attorney, he has taken on, and beaten powerful corporate interests. A phony is a guy like that sonovabitch we got now. A punk who never missed a meal, or had to earn his place in line, or had to work for his OWN money. People who have improved their circumstances with hard work--much of it benefiting others--are not phonies.

Mickey Finn @ 17: Several folks wrote posts about the whole FDR angle a while back, and I think you linked a few of them. FDR in his day was called a "traitor to his class," because despite his class and wealth, he did more to help the poor in the U.S. than just about anybody. The attacks on Edwards' wealth are normally hackdom or conservative projection. Lasting positive change is normally not possible (barring a revolution) without people who benefit from the system as it is working to improve it for everyone else.
I'm amused by Abbie Scoffman's bald blog whoring. The poor fella doesn't know the difference between any of the "isms" he cites, so he just uses the kitchen sink approach. It's hard not to feel sorry for a man whose blog is so ignored he's reduced to trolling for readers in the comments threads at C&L!
