In the runup to tomorrow's Iowa caucus, Republicans seem to be conflicted on their choices.

The following exchange was heard between two Republicans outside of Big Red's Beef and More Beef Restaurant in Des Moines...

So who're you voting for?

I dunno. Huckabee, I guess. He's the religious one, right?

Romney is religious too...

Yeah, but he's Mormon, isn't he? Don't they believe in wife swapping?

Wife swapping!? Don't be silly, they just believe in having about 20 wives...

But he's not one of those Mormons, right?

Which Mormons?

The 20-wive Mormons...

No, I think he only has one wife...

What about Huckabee?

I think he only has 1 wife too...

No, I mean, isn't he religious?

Yeah, I think he was a faith-healer. Didn't he handle snakes and speak in tongues?

You mean like in India?

In India?

Yeah, those snake charmer swami types...

No, they don't charm the snakes, they just, uh, play with them...

Allright, enough about snakes and religion, what about Guiliani?

I like him, he's a strong leader.

Yeah, after 9-11 he stepped right up, put his affair on the backburner and led NY City...

His affair?

Yeah, he was having an affair with his current 3rd wife, on his 2nd wife...

Wait, is Guiliani Mormon too!?

No, his wives have all been consecutive, not concurrent...

Guiliani is very popular throughout the country.

Yeah, just not in NY City. They hate him there.

Why?

Well, he kinda screwed up as mayor, and he didn't get the firefighters
the new radios they needed...

Oh, boy, well McCain has perfect credentials...

Sure, he's supported Bush through thick and thin.

And he's against torture.

But he supports the war in Iraq...

Yeah, a real fiscal conservative.

What, you don't like McCain either? Who do you like?

I kinda like Ron Paul...

Ron Paul, that crazy short guy? Or is it Kucinich I'm thinking of?

No, that's Ron Paul. He's a libertarian...

Does he have more than one wife?

Have you had a good look at him, he's lucky to have one...

And then there's Fred Thompson, the actor...

Yeah, he reminds me of Reagan...

You mean because he's stately and a former actor?

No, because he seems like he's dead...

The Daily Kos link isn't working right now. Please fix when you get a chance.

Thanks for including my 1960 bit.

Actual quote from the parents of a friend of mine, who live in rural Ohio, during the 2004 Presidential campaign:

Father: "Who's this 'Kerry Edwards' person I'm seeing bumper stickers for?"
Mother: "He's the candidate you're not voting for, dear."

"They don't drink the sand because they're thirsty, Lewis. They drink the sand... because they don't know the difference." - Andrew Shepherd, "The American President"

It was very alarming to understand that in the rules at the Iowa Caucus for Democrats the door is open for any Independent or Republican to come into the Democratic side, declare themselves a Democrat, and vote again.

Especially as the news commentary suggested that the Republican vote was cast. and immediately gave it’s Caucus area to the Democrats. At this point all the Republican bean counters needed to do was float enough Republican insurgents to the Democratic side, to send a lope sided message to America. They did. Giving Obama a win. Only the insiders know what happened but it would be interesting to know the truth of count manipulation. To be sure its kept a secret, and actually something expected by the Clintons.

This is all very scary, and does not represent a true picture of the electorate. Yet, shows everyone in America the horrible Primary way things can be manipulated. It’s obvious across the Mainstream Media spectrum every news commentator was glad to see Hillary come in third. It’s only my opinion that Hillary is clearly able to work out of this mess America is in using a great deal of hind sight Obama does not have.

It’s obvious, with Obama the electorate is confused and can not differentiate ego and audacity with, a real skill in true leadership. Obama pounds out change. Only what change is he going to do? So far Obama mirror’s every thing in the Hillary, or Edwards’s agenda. Change what? It’s all an empty suggestion to me.

Reflecting back to the Clinton administration, anyone who knows technology and grow up through that time understands the Clinton/ Gore team introduced the most profound change in the world and American by promoting the Internet in the educational process. Getting our education system online that quickly spread to the free market system which today is a reality of the most significant change in human history. A new world of online technology so profound it’s usefulness is unlimited to every citizen who hooks up to it. These minds of vision for goodness and social awareness are a treasure, and we are all witness as we write on these comment blogs to express our opinions to develop change. We write on these blogs every day ignoring the agents of change that made it possible. Clinton is among the giants of time. It’s surprising that Clinton and Gore did not achieve a Nobel Prize for this profound change. The voters of Iowa have be totally disconnected from reality not to understand that.

But most glaring in the ideal Change will never happen in America if Bush and Company is not held accountable for the abuse, profiteering and corruption it currently is swamped in. All deliberately avoided with Mainstream Media as a key player in a deception and corrupt manipulation beyond anytime in history. More and more Americans are keenly aware that news is biased for the few and against the electorate. These profiteers, these thousands of think tanks filled with bias operate with mainstream Media on a daily basis to manipulate America that run against the grain of the very fiber of the Constitution and free market system.

Hillary Clinton has the ability to create the same change needed right now in America. The real agent of change; vote Clinton 2008.

And of course the real important stuff.

Britney Spears has reportedly been placed on lock down for a mental evaluation.

the thing you left out: hillary is partly responsible for the troubles we are in now. she had every opportunity in the world to take a strong stance against our country's backslide, but she chose not to, she chose to play it safe, she chose political posturing over courage and integrity. this is not leadership, and this does not lead one to think that she will be an agent of change. she is too aligned with the clinton neoliberal-DLC wing of the dem party, and they represent stagnation and status quo.

personally i am not a big obama fan, but--to me--he is much more inspirational than hillary, and has demonstrated his ability to make better choices than hillary.

More like the agent for the status quo.

Why hasn't this been in the MSM?

http://www.brasschecktv.com/page/245.html

I remember when Talk of the Nation first started. In a way, John Hockenberry was an audio version of John Amato. The show was an audio blog. It was new and exciting, and I rarely missed a show, always eating at my desk.

When he went to ABC, I was very sad. Talk of the Nation survived without him (Ira Flatow had already hooked me on Science Friday in a Bill Nye sort of way), but I knew it was over for him.

I'm glad he's recovered.

Re: British Satirists explaining subprime market.

That pretty much explains it. Banks and investment companies jumped on funds with cool sounding names like "high grade enhanced leveraged" fund, but it was really the "unemployed black man with a string vest" fund.

I read about Hockenberry earlier this week, and am glad to see it highlighted here. Almost unfailingly, the MSM pushes for more shallow coverage, while average citizens, liberal bloggers and some reporters push for more depth.

The Holy Crap! links have a lot of good stuff there.

About this 'Holy' crap, I'm confused. Are there a lot of different 'gods'? I mean, like one for the CrazyChristianEvangelicalFundamentalists, one for the CrazyIslamoFascistMuslimFundamentalists, and one for the CrazyNeoConZionistJewFundamentalists? And another one for the New England Patriots, and another one for the Green Bay Packers, etc.?

I mean, all these folks pray to 'god', but they all insist there is just one 'god'. So this one 'god' plays favorites, or takes sides? Or, maybe in the case of the NFL and other sports, has bets down on the point spreads in Vegas?

I wonder whose side 'god' is going to favor in the FBI vs. CIA battle during the upcoming investigation? It's hard to imagine 'god' coming down in favor of torture, but considering what He's put us through for the past seven+ years with The Dummy, I guess nothing's a sure thing with 'god'.

I liked the post on Halfway there

"No more christian nice guy"....that is one scary sounding book.

What are these people thinking??? If there is one thing I can definitely say, having been part of the fundamentalist/evangelical movement in the 80's, it's that there is not NEARLY enough talk of Jesus' 'soft side'!!! All they ever talk about is 'declaring war' on satan, fighting the 'secularists who want to make christianity illegal' and other most definitely male oriented stuff! These people are sadly deluded and dangerous. Which is why I no longer participate. I started wondering why, when Jesus did nothing but preach about peace and love and helping your fellow human, that those in the pulpit and in the church around me did nothing but focus on warlike behavior...and the point that these dumb@$$es miss is that Jesus was pissed about the hypocrisy and the sacrilege that was going on IN THE TEMPLE, BY THEIR OWN PRIESTLY STAFF, who basically stole from their own congregations with their 'temple money' and 'sacrifice sanctified' slaughter animals that people were REQUIRED to purchase from the temple staff.

I think what it comes down to is that the last 100 years have been very good to women generally, worldwide, which scares the living $h!t out of most men (worldwide). They feel a lack in their absolute power base and this is what fuels the religious fundamentalism worldwide...fear. If men aren't the chosen powerhouse of the gods, then what will happen to them?

Do I mean that it's anywhere close to true equality for women? Of course not, but in many places they are not considered property anymore...which they always were both in Judaism (read the old testament if you don't believe me) and in its children, Christianity and Islam.

I love Holy crap, always have. Now I am GodMan, deliverer of evil, on earth as it is in Cleveland, baker of the daily bread, fornicator of trespasses and temptation! Hooray!!
