Countdown's Worst Persons: Rudy, Billo & Roger

icon Download | play icon Download | play (h/t Heather)

A sparkling list of hackery marks Friday's Worst Person in The World for Countdown. The bronze goes to Republican presidential contender Rudy Giuliani for letting his 9/11 Tourettes outbursts reach the point of caricature. Perennial list sitter Bill O'Reilly gets the silver for being too stupid to know the difference between the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence as well as having the bad taste to be proud of said stupidity. And finally, the gold goes to the richly deserved Roger Ailes for his revolutionary FOX Business Channel, who has only averaged 6,300 viewers during the day and 15,000 during prime time.

I think the order Olberman has them in is right. Of the three Ailes is in the position to cause the most harm for the longest period of time.

Props to Gil Scott-Heron and his immortal line (which KO uses at the end).

I don't know anymore. There's nothing wrong with defending ones integrity and beliefs from the right wing attacks we've been subject to the past 7 years but this snickering and sneering routine is counterproductive and is resorting to the same kind of behavior as the nut cases dishing it out and is only going to increase hostilities and polarization.

Soon or later were going to have to cut it out and learn to show some basic respect towards others.

I know it's easier said then done.

I can't figure out why Olbermann bugs me. See, the thing is that I agree with everything he says. I think he makes excellent, solid points, I get his jokes, and I think he's smart but I never watch his show. He is such a dork. I am probably no cooler than he is, but he makes me feel like I might be. Instead, I wished he made me want to be as cool as he is. I'm sorry, Keef. I am a jerk. Please help. Be more awesome, because I really want to prop you up.

I think KO is tops, don't watch him if you don't like him. He fights fire with fire. Fox business is to decieve us all, to get a one party (republican) by buying it with murdock money....it's failing.

shantiquax's picture

Yes, now that we have a foothold in the captive media, let's start discrediting the messenger with our .... our VIBES? Ish. Such tender egos. Anyway, I was gonna say that most of those 15,000 watchers are probably researching for satire.

Remember the Repubs on the filabuster nuclear option when they controlled it all. They arrogantly felt they would never leave power and therefore never need the fillabuster.

Who is using the fillabuster on everything now. Repubs are so partisan to this day they provide extreme partisan obstructionism. Matter of fact, the Dem control has allowed for Republican participation far beyond that in which the Repub control even contemplated. The Repubs in their obstructionism strategy has taken advantage of the Dems desire to tamp down the partisanship ranchor and plenty of folks are upset with the Dems controlling rule that is played out as if the Dems are somehow weak because they aren't hyper partisan as the Repubs were.

Ther is something to be said of this adult approach of Dem control encluding Repubs. The repubs cause unproductiveness, and try to paint Dems as a weak minded controlling party and you don't think the Dems should put the repubs in a "time out in the corner" for a while at the least?

The Repubs in their partisan rule did not allow a Democratic Representative the respect to voice his representation of me and my district. Simply because they felt their majority was to deny my representative voice as a health care provider earns a profit from denying coverage to a person using an ambulance for not pre approving said ambulance. When the injured in question was unconscience to pre approve the ambulance use.

Think you position over some more. It sounds as if you are having trouble coming to educated conclusions.

The Dems shouldn't deny the repubs representing voices as the Repubs did to the Dems.

the point here is the Repubs are not using their representing voices honorablyin regards to the people in their districts they should be representing. They are representing their "Republican Party" Their is a difference, check it out.................

Ailes keeps forgetting Fox is not in the business of business, it's in the business of shoveling sh*t.

Preacher Boob's picture

The 'dangers' Rudy faced on 9/11 are nothing compared to the danger he'll face if he's stupid enough to stick his head in a NYFD firehouse.

julia's picture

See, I like that about KO. I think he has gravitas when he's passionate about something, but his affect when he's being snarky always has a little bit of that captain of the chess team pointing out that the story you worked on for a week has a typo in it smirk going on.

And, you know, on balance, I think that's a good thing.

Because you know how you feel when that ignorant squalid human spoiled potato Bill O'Reilly goes on TV and smears you? And, you know he knows he's lying, and that's part of the joy for his audience, that their guy is blatantly slandering you _and enjoying it_ and there's nothing you can do about it?

KO makes their boy Bill feel like that in public on a regular basis, and there's _nothing he can do about it_ Their symbolic penis is getting gelded repeatedly by someone they would have beaten up in high school.

After all the time they've spent trying to convince themselves and the rest of America that they're a veritable pack of Fonzies their champion got pwned by a nerd.

Anything that makes the bullyboy audience of right wing talk feel like they're not the characters in Animal House they thought they were is alright by me.

Preacher Boob's picture

Hey, maybe we ought to ease up on O'Reilly before we drive him completely off the brink.

After all, his stupidity is the only thing he has left to be proud of.

Preacher Boob's picture

Damn, it must be fun being Olbermann.

Kind of like being 'god', of a slightly smaller universe, without having to worry about weird things like black holes, and stuff.

(Except for Ann Coulter and Sherri Shepard)

Preacher Boob's picture

I've heard that for the next anniversary of 9/11, the NYFD is going to forcibly present Giuli with a butt-plug, formed from the melted remnants of a dozen NYFD radios.

Julia, that was a great post, and I totally agree. Good point. KO is brilliant and just, and I would never dispute his integrity and class. But he does need to drop the chess-guy smirk. If he did, it would be 100% perfect. He needs to be on TV, and I don't want to feel guilty for not watching. So if he will work with me, I'll turn on my TV more.

"He grabbed me with both his hands here," Nicholson said, gesturing to his left arm and O'Reilly "started shoving me." Nicholson said, " He was pretty upset. He was yelling at me."

Secret Service agents who were nearby flanked O 'Reilly after he pushed Nicholson. They told O'Reilly he needed to calm down and get behind the fence-like barricade that contained the press.

Hahaha! Can't wait till Monday when Keith can give him hell!!

Fox's Bill O'Reilly in confrontation with Obama staffer at rally. Developing.
From Chicago's Sun Times News blog page:

NASHUA, N.H.--Bombastic Fox News host Bill O'Reilly got into a confrontation with an Obama aide after O'Reilly started screaming at him as he tried to get Barack Obama's attention following a rally here.

The incident was triggered when O'Reilly--with a Fox News crew shooting--was screaming at Obama National Trip Director Marvin Nicholson to "Move" so he could get Obama's attention, according to several eyewitnesses.

"O'Reilly was yelling at him, yelling at his face," a photographer shooting the scene said.

O'Reilly grabbed Nicholson's arm, said "move" and shoved him, another eyewitness said. Nicholson, who is 6'8 ~ O'Reilly called him "low class."

Secret Service agents came after O'Reilly pushed Nicholson and the agents flanked O'Reilly. Obama had his back turned at this point and did not see any of this. O'Reilly yelled "sir" at Obama and Obama walked over, not aware of what happened and told him he had an overflow crowd to visit.
According to the time code from a photographer shooting the two, Obama and O'Reilly talked about 12 seconds near 11:45 a.m. eastern time.

A few months back, WRNN, the local talk/news radio station here in Myrtle Beach dropped CNN, in favor of Fox News Radio as its news carrier, with a 7 minute report occurring every half hour on the half hour. I guess NextMedia Group, who owns WRNN, felt that the CNN reports didn't mix too well with the likes of Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh.

Now we have the debates scheduled to come here to the Beach in the next week. WRNN reminds us of this by airing a sound bite that pops up at the end of these half hour reports, with a very excited announcer proclaiming, "The Republicans are coming!!".

Wait a sec...aren't the Democrats gonna be here too???

Sheesh!

I get the same vibe. Is it that he lacks humility in his voice? Ed Murrow sounded a little more down to earth.

Must've been the smokes. Chain smoking tends to have a humbling effect on people. It killed Murrow 2 years after having his left lung removed and 2 days after his 57th birthday.

He was the first to broadcast a show establishing a link between cigarettes and cancer.

That said, Keith can be a bit pompous at times but he's right a hell of a lot more often than he's wrong - especially when it comes to the likes of Billo and Bush.

Can you imagine how difficult it would be to sit next to Tweety for hour on end and pretending he's a learned colleague who you enjoy spending time with, like Keith has to do these days? I know they're well-paid and all that, but gimme a break. I thought Elizabeth Edwards was going to throw up her hands and say "Life's just too short to waste another second of it with the likes of you and your tenth-rate "blame it on the trial lawyers" shtick and poke his eyes out and strangle the, schmuck last night.

Could it be you guys don't like the fact that the Fox news de-revolution will not be televised? KO is the bomb. He is the only one within the MSNBC staff with a true unbiased lets get to the facts approach to news. If that bothers you, catch the all day conservative shows of Chris Matthews and Tucker Carlson. You have choice in this matter. Work it.

I'm so glad Fox Business is tanking. I make it a point not to consume any media owned by Murdoch. I don't read the WSJ and don't watch any programs on Fox. I wish more liberals did the same. It'd be nice to hurt the bottom line of the Australian Nazi.

Look, I prefaced my comments with sincere praise for KO. I'm voicing a legitimate concern about his on-air persona. I dig his message, but his delivery is not my cup of tea, IMHO, jerk. You don't have to agree, but you may never accuse me of being a fan of Fox News or any conservative program. That was absolutely uncalled for and unprovoked.

You have no idea what you're talking about.

And further, Joseph, KO is allowed to be a pompous dweeb because he's right. You are not allowed to be a pompous dork because you are wrong. [Deleted. Please keep it civil. Site Monitor]
