John McCain's Less Than Victorious Victory Speech

In stark contrast to Obama's speech in Iowa, declared Republican primary winner John McCain's victory speech in New Hampshire decidedly underwhelmed the pundits on MSNBC, including Keith Olbermann, Joe Scarborough, Gene Robinson, Howard Fineman and Katrina Vanden Heuvel.

JS: That speech! Oh my God!

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]-->

KO: All right, calm down…he’s still on the stage. You’re going to be…you can’t…you can’t boo a candidate while he’s still on the stage the night he won, Joe. Do I have to teach you everything about politics all of the sudden?

JS: Thank you, Keith. Thank you. I tell you, one think I can teach, and we were all talking about it here. It is absolutely remarkable…

KO: Don’t read the speech?

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]-->

JS: That at this moment…yes, please. If this is your introduction to America in 2008, do not have your head looking straight down into a speech that Howard, Howard Fineman, what’d you say it looked like?

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]-->

HF: It looked like every advisor he ever had had given him one paragraph?

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]-->

GR: One sentence…

HF: One sentence…but he read them all.

GR: But he dropped them on his way to the podium and re-sorted them in random order.

Ouch.

frist!

That truly was an awful speech. And McCain needs to interject "my friends" a little less into his speeches. It pops out every third sentence and it sounds ridiculous.

Horrible speech, horrible candidate!

Let him enjoy this win, it's the only one he will win.

Thank you Nicole!

I truly loved how the folks at MSNBC seemed to be falling off their chairs laughing at the speech.

Begala(?) also got a dig in .. he said that the doorman/bellman at his hotel was happy because McCain also read a line from him. Keith about burst a seam trying the staunch the laughter .. great if you could get a that vid too that too.

:-D

Keith's "appology" to McCain was hilarious.

Well, get out and vote... AND PLEASE - Vote out the two families that have run our country for 20 years...

McCain is really creepy. I was really hoping Romney could be him in this primary but with only a 5 point lead this rethug race is only just beginning.

Kay @ 6:

Agreed, I hope youtube or C&L get's the whole thing LOL!

Listening to that war monger,,, ahh,, he is like clinton. They think because they won NH they have already been picked to head their parties.
In fact the whole media is acting like the races are over and now all we have to do is await the final election between these two pukes. Hopefully the other,, what? 47 states will have something to say about the matter.

What a nightmare for McCain! Even in victory, he gets no respect!

What the hell do they expect from an old man? It will be a miracle if he survives till November.

could beat him, it's late.

He's the neocons new Chimp.

didn't catch the speach.......maybe later....I'm not looking forward to hearing about the war hero who got himself shot down and got tortured for FIVE YEARS......it's still January....I'm gonna have to hear this for 10 more fricken months......ughhhh.

McCain, The Manchurian candidate. Wheres his mom at?

McInsane is my Senator and you all can just have him... get him out of Arizona and put him in the WH...we've had enough of him.

We'd, of course, then have to succeed from the Union... ;)

'My friends' is John McCain's '9/11.'

well, it is an improvement over Rudy's 9/11 tic.

Boy, that's quite a spanking the media's giving their boy! "You're embarrassing us!"

A pandering phony. How could anyone vote for that?

do not, under any circumstance, show john mccain the queen of diamonds.

Im really just shocked at Romney and the countries take on Massachusetts. I lived there thru King, Dukakis, Weld, Cellucci, Swift and Romney. 2/3 rds of that stack are Repubs. The state is fed by the defense industry just drive up 128 or check out the funding for all the colleges.. It is hardly liberal, maybe Newbury street is but fuck, Massachusetts is filled with a lot of conservatives.. I am at a loss on why Romney was so unable to knock that into peoples heads- not that I want him elected. He even had the media panting to help him.

I cant believe how much God was in mccain speech, its really just scary. I dont want my president to be into fairytales, I want them to be impressive.

Pray he's the GOP candidate. He will become a loose cannon and cold, cool, calculated Hillary will slice him up with a scalpel before he even knows he's been cut.

Bill Bennett, mid level asshole of the rethugs said it best: Mc Cain is 71 and can't comb his own hair.

NH you are nuts...on MTP w/russert he said the US could be in Iraq 5, 10, 100, or a 1000 years so long as the Iraqis are the ones dying, the flaw being that w/ Americans there on sacred muslim land (karbala to name one) they too will fall

I just love it when the neocons say "..and God bless you..." Oh, cheers, cheers, cheers!! These blood sucking, pandering politicians make me want to barf.

IT IS SAD, this man is in the last yrs of his life all he has to look forward to now is cancer heart attacks strokes and hardening of his arterys, of course he cares nothing of others lives his is about over, let them join him in death, but first hes got to be somebody special , president of these united states , wont you help make an old fools journey into that cold grave more sweeter , elect johnny mccain!

McCain can't beat Hillary. It will be the 24% against everyone else if shes the front runner.

gop is in complete dissarray.

i dont think i spelled that right.

...."oh, and God bless America"....more cheers, more cheers, more cheers. So sad. These washed up politicians need pasture....quick.

Hilarious how he insisted on reading every line after continually being interrupted. It reminded me of a high school principal's canned speech at graduation.

Roll over Beethoven seems apt for the exit music -- however, it is McCain who is Beethoven.

A Perry Como of a speech.

buy a teleprompter

Remember folks, this is all part of the grand master plan. Huckabee wins Iowa, McCain wins New Hampshire, Romney wins Michigan, Huckabee with South Carolina, Rudy wins Florida -- and Super Tuesday is massively indecisive. And the races for the nomination goes on and on and on -- all through May. Nobody gets a majority of delegates and everyone stays in. The Republicans are stuck with an open convention and have to come up with that candidate who will satisfy the already fractured coalition of economic and social conservatives, resulting a lackluster compromise (aka Fred Thompson) or massive defection/disinterest by one or the other side.

Of course, this could happen with the Dems too.

Wouldn't it be great if we held an election an nobody came?

Candidates, I mean -- voters haven't been coming for years.

Wow, contrast that victory speech to Edwards third place finish speech and you can see the difference between Democrats and Republicans.

I think he needs to pop a few Cialis before his next victory speech.

Jezuz...Grampa needs some prune juice to loosen up a little.

I got tired and old just listening to him.

Scarborough would've been much happier had Mitt Romney been giving the victory speech instead of McCain, then Mitt could've said something inane as, I'm so happy, I'm prarie-doggin' up here in my magical underwear," and Joe would've been on his feet, applauding and wiping tears of joy out of his eyes! What a prick! After the old man was swift-boated by Bushco. in 2004 and by Mittens Romney in 2007-8, maybe he was just a little overwhelmed by the moment.

Man, this is depressing. McCain used to be one of the few Republicans I had any sort of respect for.

If Mitt wins the Republican nomination, Jeb will be his pick for vice president.

Ah, McCain, won New Hampshire with the help of those independents in name only. You know the ones, they say they are independent but are really conservative and vote for Republicans all the time, but this way, they can claim they aren't really Republicans. Nice game.

you nailed the lid on thier turd bucket!!!!!!exactly!

"If Mitt wins the Republican nomination, Jeb will be his pick for vice president."

Thank you! I was just going to point this out. If Romney gets the nod, he owes the Bush family big time--he is THEIR boy! Then, we'll have 8 years of Romney, perhaps followed by 8 years of Jeb Bush...then we'll all wish we were as dead as McCain wil probably be by 2024!!!! Be careful what you nitwits wish for...Romney will not be as easy to beat as you think, should he get the nomination, because our Democratic candidate, be it Hillary, Obama or God knows who, will fuck it up somehow ala John Kerry!

Vote for McCain
get more of the same

or worse , sayyyyyyyyyyy 100 yrs in Irac , no prob.

bastard

McCain for MORE WAR!

God bless.......uh....thank God......um......God.......and I thank God......that I.....God.....er....God.

Sounded like every Republican speech to me, the only difference being McCain fucked it up.

clinton and mccain... aughh, i feel so dirty just bordering new hampshire. maybe quebec will annex maine and i won't have to worry about which is the lesser of two evils this time around.

I knew that there were alot of really dumb Americans living in this country, and it's obvious that a large percentage of them live in New Hampshire. Clinton was a surprise but John McCain? You have got to be kidding me! Bush on steroids times 2 - pro war, pro amnesty? Man, you have to be kidding! New Hampshire should be written off as a bunch of ill-informed idiots! Ughh!

Well, at least they were honest.

It's all a show.

Did somebody sneeze? There were so many God bless yous.

This country is in a complete meltdown. The MSM are out of their minds, the president is out of his mind, the American people are out of their minds, and the Candidates are all fighting amongst themselves because they all want to be the president.Well they can all go to hell! I'm sick of the whole charade!

What is the opposite of inspiring... perspiring?

Awful... windbag is too good a word for that geezer.

He's really a much better speaker when he's addressing someone in his audience as "you little jerk".

Man, I could just smell the bengay from my keyboard. Victory round of cranberry juice for all! That had to be the worst victory speech of all time. He made Bush sound eloquent..something I previously thought impossible. I believe I lost 5 IQ points just watching that.

I laughed so hard I almost vomitted all over my boots.

Watch out for the CABAL pushing jMcCain , they are out in droves creating the myth he will be a great president and BOB " CIA OPERATIVE " WOODWARD pulled one of the easy, sleazy tactics you can do...CLAIM " democrats are saying to themselves , they fear McCain , because HE HAS moral authority " . Said VERBATIM on CNN's Larry KING .

Ok BOB, shill for the CFR....PROVE IT...WHO said it and do you really think aNY, ANY Democrat in leadership position or adviser would ADMIT EVEN, EVEN, EVEN in private to Bob Woodward....John McCain has " Moral authority " . Guy is full of sht , with his misinformation he's trying to spread .

Look all you people the CORP:., MAIN STREAM MEDIA has given you, your next President John McCain speech is not inportant look at all those speech writers that is on strike the CORP:., MEDIA will get one to wright McCains speaches when he is in the WHITE HOUSE. Just shut up and sit down.

New Hampshire Republicans opted for the least crazy. Sadly, though, McCain looks better in defeat than victory.

WELL HERES THE PLAN.... THE REPUBS CANT FIND A LEADER AMONG THEM AND THE DEMS WILL NOMINATE EITHER THE HILL OR THE BAMA MAMA... THEN THEY LET ROMNEY GET THE REPUB NOD THEN HE BEATS THEM IN THE GENERAL AND THEN AMERICA GETS NO UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE AND TAXES GO UP FOR THE MIDDLE CLASS AND THEY DOLLARS FALLS FLAT AND THEN THEY START PUTTING US ALL IN THE CAMPS THEY HAVE BEEN BUILDING SECRETLY AROUND THE US AND WE ARE NOW SLAVES AND THE MASS DEPOPULATION STARTS AND THE 1S ARE LEFT WILL BE THE SLAVES TO THE RICH!!!WHY CANT THE PEOPLE OF THE US WAKE UP TO THIS "NEW WORLD ORDER"? ITS HAPPENING RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOUR EYES!!!!!!!

ONE HUNDRED MORE YEARS!!!

And don't forget, we're gonna--- bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran!

God bless you, my friends!

Mccombover needs some SSRIs

Isn't it interesting that no matter how horrible McCain's speech was----the fact is he still won!? The question that's begged is what mindless protoplasmic pond-scum are actually still voting Rethug!?

MR. RUSSERT: Looking back at the beginning of the war back in March of 2003 --

SEN. McCAIN: Yes.

MR. RUSSERT: If you had known then, if the intelligence came out and said, "We know that Saddam Hussein does not have biological or chemical or a nuclear program," would you still have voted to authorize the war?

SEN. McCAIN: Well, obviously, given information that we have changes your decision-making process. But Saddam Hussein was still a threat. The sanctions were breaking down. There was a multibillion dollar Oil for Food scandal in the United Nations. Every day, American airplanes were being shot at. Saddam Hussein had used and required weapons of mass destruction in the past, and there was no doubt there was going to be in the future. The problem in Iraq, my friend, was not whether we went in or not, it's the way it was mishandled after the initial invasion.

MR. RUSSERT: But, Senator, it's an important question -- President Bush has said, "Even if I knew he did not have biological, chemical, or a nuclear program, I still would go into Iraq to topple Saddam Hussein." Would you have?

SEN. McCAIN: Yes, but the point is, that if we had done it right, it's been well chronicled in many books, you and I wouldn't even be discussing that now-- the mishandling after the war.

anyone means more Iraq...especially any Republican. You cannot just turn the switch off of decades worth of conflict, besides, our Democrats have yet to make clear statements about foreign policy...at least McCain attempts to wander in that hemisphere and make sense of it in his vomit-inducing Republican way. As for Republicans, I'll be pleased with anyone who does not have another Evangelical agenda (NOT Huckabee)...

Vote fraud, vote fraud, vote fraud!! I don't believe a candidate that calls for a hundred more year in Iraq would win if 80% of the people want the end of the war. Either the voters are brain-dead or vote fraud, vote fraud. Damn it folks they are going to steal this election again!

At least he's consistently confused and incoherent. He's got that going for him. [snicker]

I'd almost feel sorry for repugs if it wasn't so obvious that they like them ignorant, loud and half in the bag. You know, someone just like them. They didn't want this crew of candidates but shrub can't run again and satan won't take their calls.

I really liked McCain's speech. My reaction was that (the Republican) Scarboro was trying to undermine McCain.

Amen. Any Democratic President other than Hillary Clinton. The Chinese figured out dynasties do not work over a thousand years ago.

All John needs is to be more passionate: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSk9toKfrwo

John McCain is a straight-shooter and a maverick.

That's why he deserved his victory last night!

He's a straight-shooter, because he told Tim Russert last weekend that he would have invaded Iraq even if he knew there were no WMD. John McCain didn't need a pretext. He wanted war. The voters said they wanted change, and they appreciated McCain's straight-shoot.

He's a maverick, because he told a town hall meeting that he'd be perfectly satisfied with a 100-year occupation. America said they wanted change, and a 100-year occupation policy is a progressive change from all the other candidates who want something this side of a fifty year occupation.

America said she wanted change, and New Hampshire delivered!

Since all the "official" pre-vote polls have now been exposed as a pile of rancid baloney, let's try our own informal poll:

On a scale of 1-to-10 (one representing "no trust" and ten representing "totally trust"):

a. How much do you believe what the mainstream media tells you?

b. How much do you believe what your government tells you?

And;

c. How much do you believe the accuracy of paperless Diebold touchscreen vote counting computers?

Add your respective scores for a tally out of 30.

Now ask yourself if you believe anything about last night's vote.

Just sayin'...

Bush premium (McCain) and Bush lite (Hillary) won.

WTF is wrong with these NH voters?

McCain sounds drunk to me!!!

Aguilar @ 45:

Man, this is depressing. McCain used to be one of the few Republicans I had any sort of respect for.

Well, that's what you get when you respect a Republican.

GOP= Greedy Old Pederasts

Do they use Diebold machines in NH?

There's no doubt that McCain is BushCo's candidate-in-chief and it's absolutely inexplicable that he could win without a little "help." Wouldn't put it past them to give Hillary a little bump as well.

Dog forgive me but these are very cynical times...

I know McCain is about as straight-laced as it gets, but I really think he might have inhaled a bit too much of the smoke surrounding him during the Vietnam era, or all those months in the POW Hotel have dulled his senses.

What Republicans see in stone-faced impersonal monotone characters such as Thompson, McCain, or Dole – is beyond my comprehension. Then again, they find Ben Stein listenable – while (I’ve heard some say) Hillary Clinton’s voice “makes their ears bleed”. Go figure!

Twice, McCain said, "God bless you IF you have blessed me."
Simple - it was a Freudian slip .....he replaced "as" with "if" because that's what in his charcoal heart.
God bless you if you have blessed me ....and may God strike you dead if you did not vote for me.
He knew that the whole country was watching.....and not just the people in that room with him.

BTW : have you ever noticed how when he says something bold, over-confident or nervy or when he suddenly flip-flops when he's forced to and then at those moments - he seems very confident for about 1 or 2 seconds and then let's out a sudden little girl laugh like," Wow, I said it ! I can't believe I actually said it."
He seems like such an insecure human to me.

Remember that McCain supporter who asked him, "How do we beat the bitch?"
She asked the perfect question if the NH results match the November situation.
God help you all if that happens. I say, "...you all..." because I moved from the USA to Asia over a decade ago.
According to the Police State videos (which you can order online) high fences are being built now around all the USA schools with much barbed wire at the top so that the nation's schools can be used as concentration camps. Also WW II concentration camps for Japanese Americans still exist and can be used.
The military is being trained in police work and the police are being trained in military work and receiving old military vehicles and equipment for free.
Keith Olbermann recently told Professor Turley, "See you in Guatanamo".
But it won't be Guatanamo.........it will be your local high school folks.
You have many choices people :
Canada, Asia (like me (^_-) , Australia, Europe......

There are three things that happen to you when you get old. The first thing to go is the memory and I can't remember the other two
John Mccane

You C & L people are clueless. I'll tell you what's gonna happen !
Memorize this !! :
(1.)Dennis K. will pick Ron Paul as his running mate.
(2.) They will win in November.
(3.) Bush will declare a state of emergency / martial law Musharaf - style
(4.) Dissenters will be rounded up and imprisoned.
(5.) Bush and Cheney will have Osama bin Laden flown into the United States on a private jet.
(6.) Bush and Cheney will tell us, "So we were lying all along. You inferior humans don't know good from bad. Now the three of us will remain in power. You can do nothing about it. Obey us or die."
(7.) Billboards of Bush/ Cheney/ Osama bin Laden will be put up all around the country.

Well the old coot gave a speech like . . an old coot. Senility setting in.

I hate to give out a good deal and be the cause of any mass migration, but aside from earning bigger money, I can't...for the life of me....understand why ANYONE would want to live in the US of A when you can live just south in what is left of Mexico for a fraction of the expense and a zillion times more the quality of life.

I moved down here three years ago...met a wonderful woman and took her as my wife...spent 9 months back up in the US, and just returned to Mexico for good. There is no comparison, in my book. The people are GREAT, the lifestyle is precious and wholesome, and aside from the lingering corruption and a bit more dust and plastic, the place is heaven on earth.

Glad you enjoy Asia. Americans too often think America is the only place on earth, and really confusingly consider it to be the best place on earth. Of course, 99% of them have never been anywhere else, so I guess I can see how that might happen.

Hi Hulks Heroes :
I can relate to what you're saying. For decades - I heard Americans say, "I don't care what anyone says. The United States is the best country in the world." Then I moved to Japan. Japan is heaven as far as I'm concerned. I'm never leaving ! Glad to hear you're enjoying Mexico. I suppose your wife is Mexican (?). Mine's Japanese. I'm so glad my child does not attend school in the U.S.A. Bueno suerte.

ayup , iam heading south to Mexcio , somehow I cannot see myself doing the mccain goose-step .

clinton or mccain , either one we lose

He read it like someone with shame. He was ashamed of the fact that he was claiming a victory that was clearly rigged.

Joe Scarborough, I salute you!

I think that this is the Republican's candidate in 2008. A 71 year-old man with a wife who has had so much plastic surgery that she now looks like his granddaughter. Kind of creepy, if you ask me.

That age thing is really going to hurt in the general election. He's going to look old and tired compared to any of the Democrats who have a chance to be the nominee. The contrast is really going to spook younger voters. He's a POW camp survivor, a cancer survivor and he'll be lucky if the campaign itself doesn't kill him.

A rambling acceptance speech is the least of his worries.

He could have just said bugga-bugga-bugga! over and over again, and those cheering miscreants could have given a fuck.He won, they are not interested in what he has to say.
He won...he could fart in a hanky and they would cheer.
Why bother even critiquing it?

Pathetic. I personally feel we've had enough of inarticulate whack jobs in the White House.

Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran.

Get the fuck off of my computer monitor.

Compare video of McCain today with video of two years ago and a measurable loss of vitality and quickness is apparent. He'll be bumbling by November.
