Keith Olbermann is far too professional to be as confrontational as I would be on the subject of Chris Matthews' well-documented man-crushes, where he gets enthralled by what he perceives as shrewd maneuvering by politicians without any connection to whether the maneuvering is a positive or negative for the country as a whole. However, he couldn't resist a little playful poke at the juxtaposition between Chris Matthews excoriation of the Clintons' political machine and his arms-open-wide intro and fawning interview of Tom Delay, who for whatever reason was asked to give his opinions on the primary tonight.
KO: I can't let the moment pass...I have to ask you this: the juxtaposition. You said the Clintons are guilty of questioning how the game is played ...
CM: Right...
KO: And then, we went directly to an interview with Tom Delay. I can't let that mo...it's not a rhetorical question, it's just an observation of the sequence of events there I found rather extraordinary.
CM: Well, Tom's out of the game and you might get more attitude out of the guy who's out of the game. He's not being careful.
KO: On occasion in his past, he was known though for questioning the roles of the game.
CM: Yeah, well, you mean when they had that redistricting in the middle of the decade, rather than waiting to the end of it? You got a strong memory, sir...
It seems to me that most Americans, the ones that watch cable news anyway, have no memory at all.
I think there's some kind of secret signal on CNN, MSNBC, FOX and the Sunday shows that wipe the memory clean at the end of the broadcast.
Or maybe it's at the beginning.

For every soft news story and comedy piece olbermann does, he always makes up for them with moments like this and remind me why I like him.

I hate to admit it, but I watch Tweety as kind of a guilty pleasure. Every once in a great while he says something intelligent (the same way the proverbial blind pig finds the acorn). But most of the time I take guilty pleasure in hearing how truly dumb he is, how obsessed he is with the Clintons, and how closeted he is in his sexual attraction to "manly" Republicans. Somebody in the MSNBC hierarchy must enjoy him for the same reasons; otherwise, how do you explain that he even has a show?
Chris Matthews, presently, is a shallow, superficial TV reporter. He is capable of brightness and clarity; however, without discipline, he diminishes his own tools and becomes second rate. Keith should be a model for Chris. He is a gentleman, a scholar and a "deadeye" reporter and commentator who adheres to objectivity and fairness. If Chris would rethink some of his biased reporting themes, he would be much better off and we, the public, would forego grinding our teeth when Chris drops some of his bombastic reporting bombs.
Perhaps I'm not the connoisseur of political subtlety that everyone else is. Could someone explain to me in small words why this posting is so relevant? C&L algebra: Chris Matthews = false, Keith Olberman = true, if information being offered offends then false, else true?
It seems to me that it's all a joke to Tweety.
Matthews wanting to be dominated by "manly" conservatives: is this a reflection of early political career as a Tip O'Neil staffer. Tip was 'mommy' to Reagan's 'daddy" all the way. I've often wondered also if he, as a former Carter staffer was spurned for a WH job in 92, that would go a long way to explaining his Clinton hatred. Then again, maybe he's just a natural born Tool.

my local abc affiliate (providence, rhode island) has convicted felon, former mayor of providence, buddy cianci doing a regular gig as a political pundit ... when i called to point out the incongruity of this, they seemed surprised. so whether delay is convicted or not, i don't see this having any negative effect on his ability to not only get on-air time but to even get a paid gig.
Couldn't they just give Matthews' slot to Maddow? Now there's a dream--seeing Rachel and Keith back to back.
I will always remember the day that Tom DeLay stood in the halls of Congress to read the impeachment charges against Bill Clilnton. Yes, there he stood, all 3 ft. nothing of this guy with his coal oil black hair and smarmy, self-satisfied smile discussing what a terrible crime Clinton had committed in lying about some sex act he had committed with ole Monica.
And behind Tom DeLay stood three very young, very good -looking staffers from his office certainly who didn't appear to be Rhodes Scholars. Oh, Tom, you nasty, nasty man.
