Of course there's a New Hampshire Primary Open Thread here, but for the main open thread let's watch an issue-oriented video that will bring us down gently from Planet Primary. Actors Jack Klugman and James Whitmore have recorded these spots in support of separation of church and state. These religious freedom ads will run this week in South Carolina (heh), and the accompanying website has ten sample questions for voters to ask candidates, such as "Do you think public schools should sponsor school prayer or, as a parent, should this choice be left to me?" and, "Do you think my pharmacist should be allowed to deny me doctor-based prescribed medications based on his or her religious beliefs?" You can watch the other ads here.
Generic Open Thread below, and again, the New Hampshire Primary open thread is here.

My question:
How can a man claim to be a Christian and America a Christian Nation, yet endorse killing thine neighbor?
.
.
My next question:
How much did Christ charge for his social services?
.
It is time to call Obama the fluffy-fluff on who he gets his support from down there in South Carolina.
Obama has been studying the Bush and Rove playbook on how to divide America by playing the anti-gay card. Obama has not been asked or questioned about the fact he takes support from the likes of Donnie McClurkin from the mainstream media, simultaneously, preaching, that he wants to bring "change" to Washington. It appears to me that Obama regarding this significant social issue of gays and lesbian and transgendered rights is just more of the same (not about "change" at all) and all "status quo."
Obama's stand on the rights of gays, lesbians, and transgendered people regarding his "change" candidacy and embeacing the evangelical folks in South Carolina who liken gays with prostitutes sickens me to no end.
No more free passes for Obama on his fake and fraudulent "change campaign."
It is time to hold Barack Obama accountable and to start questioning who he seeks support from. Saying one is for "change" and then pulling plays out of the Bush-Rove 2004 election handbook is nothing some that "liberals" and "progressives" should be embracing. I find this type of pandering to gay bashers for votes quite appalling on the part of the Obama campaign. It is now timely to talk about this since Rev. McClurkin is from South Carolina and that is where the race shifts now.
Hillary/Edwards? Not a bad lineup.
If she has to crush Obama to win he might not be so willing to accept a VP invitation.
Hillary/Obama would be pretty potent combination regardless.
Here's a song that describes what I think of the Hillary supporters in New Hampshire.

I think we need an expert to give us a review on the Voting Procedures in place in New Hampshire. Are they some of the best we have in the country, or are these some that can be hacked like those in Florida and Ohio. This election season is too important to take the MSM's viewpoint on all this.
I hope Crooks and Liars can get a guest blog by Bev Harris or someone else who knows about the voting procedure and its accuracy in New Hampshire.
Thanks for the laughs tonight everyone. It’s always amusing to me when people actually believe that any of this is real. The outcome of the general election has been predetermined. ‘Tis all theater my friends. The Bilderbergs/CFR are laughing at you.
…..Now, back to your Corporate sponsored presidential rerun! Tinfoil hat not required.
This is a recording.
Tweety just said "I wish we had more women on this panel" in trying to explain why women voted more for Hillary.
MAYBE THEY SHOULD HIRE SOME!!!!! Maybe women's voices (who make up 52% of the population and 57% of the voters tonight) would be relevant at times other than when a woman is running. Maybe women could even talk about "men's" issues, like the economy!!!! I'm not sure who I'm voting for (I'd given money to Edwards, but he was SO out of line with his attack of Hillary's 'weakness,'--I'm not voting for him at this point), but I'm friggin glad she's running.
Maybe there will be more women on the panel in 4 years.
Paging Pundits….
Your table of crow is ready to be eaten.
Note on the anti-Hillary Clinton coverage from the Blogs to the Networks:
I do not trust Arianna Huffington at all. Arianna Huffington did not like Bill Clinton in the 1990s and I would not expect any honest analysis from her about Hillary Clinton other than the usual hate and vitriol foaming at her mouth. She is a fake and phony. Arianna Huffington twists like the wind, and cannot be considered to be a "liberal" or "progressive."
Huffington likes to provoke and agitate but she stands for nothing. She makes her name on negativity. I have yet to ever hear what Mrs. Huffington "believes" other than that nobody is ever "good enough for her." Huffington makes me want to vomit.
Huffingtonpost is a good blog, I must admit. But I seldom, if, at all, ever read anything Huffington writes.
I am glad the people and not the media made their decision tonight.
Chris Matthews' hatred of Hillary Clinton is pathological at this point and, yes, I do not watch MSNBC right now. MSNBC has the most skewed coverage against Hillary Clinton on all of the networks. Its pathetic when Bill Bennett of CNN and Brit Hume of FOX "News" are giving more fair coverage to Hillary Clinton than that of MSNBC.
Romney and Huckabee would join hands with Pat Robertson and the Republican governor of Georgia, Sonnie Perdue who held that prayer vigil for rain during the southeast drough and together they would tackle that cancer head on!
OUT CANCER! BE GONE DEVIL!! HEAL THEE LORD!! I ASK THIS IN JESUS NAME!!! SATAN BE BANISHED FROM THY BODY!!! TAKE THY CANCER DEMONS BACK TO HELL DEVIL!!!
(and then proceed to over charge the patient for services rendered)
Tim Russert admitted that the Hillary insiders were seeing themselves polling down by 11. Obama's camp had themselves up by 14 as early as this morning. The Obama crowds were huge and growing. He was surging in the polls and yet the results came out the opposite? I hope we don't find this to be another Florida or Ohio!! We need to ensure our voting process is as accurate as possible.

i give total support for whoever our democratic candidate becomes, but i do not look forward to all the negative smears and slime we will hear from the repugs once we
move into the full election process. from what i have already heard, the swiftboat bastards have already given considerable donations to mcfuckup and other lowlife repugs.
the nation is over the bush/cheney screwing except those repugs with their heads up bush/cheney's asses. if there is a god, how could she/he fuck up so badly in the form of repugs........must have waited until she/he ran out of cogent ideas.
There will be no Edwards/Hillary or Hillary/Edwards.
And no posts on the real breaking story today. It turns out Ron Paul really is a racist:

Word. This is the first election where we've had a viable female candidate and it never occurred to them that they might wish they had some women in their news/analysis team? Never mind that they ought to consider hiring more women period, but there was like one woman for every man on tonight for coverage of a race between a male and a female candidate. That's ridiculous.
I was a little annoyed by how seldom they actually utilized the women they did bring on to contribute tonight. Rachel barely got any air time, and Katrina didn't get much better.

Don't scream!
Incidentally, as Olbermann just noted, our first two contests in 2008 were won by an African American and a woman. Pretty cool.
On the Republican side, they were won by, well, you know.
C'mon. New Hampshire could have been a 2000 Florida or an 2004 Iowa? C'mon!
Give her her due and keep supporting your candidate, but please don't pull the Florida redux bullshit simply because the candidate who was leading for months took back the lead in the end and the polls, sans one, were wrong.

Answer to the first question, my order/my short answer, is: You can't.
2nd question, answer: A life time of obedience to what he really taught. "Love and honor God", "Love your neighbor as you love yourself."
Well she pulled one off, so let's see what she can do in the states that she will surely have to work hard for all that corporate money she has gotten and no doubt will continue to get.

Well a Mormon did win in Wyoming.
That should be worth something.
so many people wanting to count Obama out becuase of what? 6000ish votes? They got the exact same number of delegates so really it was a tie plus Obama has one more delegate then Clinton, plus the 80 billion (or whatever the number) of delegates left. So chin up all you Obama people out there.
As for the Clugman piece, I didn't even know he was still alive, that's great, I can't wait to hear Limbaugh trash him: "He survived throat cancer just to spite the Republican party"
How did Obama win Iowa?
Black box caucusing!!!
That's a lot of good money flushed down the shitter. Last time I was there (6 mo ago) the confederate battle flag was still flying in front of (not on top of) the state house and Maurice's Piggy Park sells hate literature along with their BBQ. SC has some really good sports teams, great food and a whole lot of really fucked up people.
If Edwards can't come in first in his home state, then he should go back to helping the poor sue big business.

So right. There's a long fight ahead and it's only going to be good for the party presently and in the future and so so so so so bad for the Republican party forever.
I am loving it.
Man the McMedia sure look like fools after tonight.

what an asshole, you must be a racist?
Always amazes me ..
Jesus himself warned against following those who pray openly in the streets or in the temples - calling them hypocrites.
And yet 20 centuries later so-called "Christians" not only engage in public prayer but attempt to drag others along with them.
If they only read the Bible, instead of listening to the "Christian preachers" who have led them astray.
Countrywide bites the dust. Stocks are in the crapper. The CIA had previous experience in rendition.
People walking by Obama's tent late Tuesday night, heard him uttering, 'Change...change...change...change?...change!...CHANGE!', all with different tonal modulations and emphases, muttering to himself, 'Just a little more sincerity...or just a little more authenticity? Waddaya think, Michelle?'
'Oh for christ's sake, Barackie, knock it off and get in bed'.
CD @ 22:
Wyoming borders Utah so he picked up some overflow from Mormonland next door. As far as what it's worth Wyoming ranks 50th in population. It's worth like what? One delegate?
On to victory!

Hilarious. Yes, if you don't think Hillary won fair and square in NH and are not supporting Obama, you must be a racist.
Before you call others "asshole" look in the mirror.
With that win tucked under her belt, Hillary's on the upswing. And as she sits at her dressing table, staring in the mirror, at her tired eyes, puffy lips, sagging skin, she's very thankful, especially as she says to herself, 'I can freshen-up my make-up, and look good.
But poor old B.O., he's gotta be sitting at his dressing table, with a bunch of tubes of pancake in front of him, wondering, 'Geez, what if I were just a shade darker..........or maybe a shade lighter? Whaddaya think, Michelle?'
And Hillary chuckles to herself, imagining Michelle's voice, 'Get your lazy ass to bed, Ackie, and I don't want no pancake make-up all over my pillow.'
What a creepy look into the mind of a wingnut.
How can Hillarity win in NH? Has the Democratic front gone blind or are they just in the mood for another mindless, white people, political dynasty? Hillary is another wolf in Ho' Leiberman's clothing. Are white people that stupid? Wow, we really are fucked as a nation/notion. To think, a f-ing UPOP (that's useless piece of -and the last word is not pineapple!) will be the commander in cheap, and hasn't one fucking merit badge for humanity ever! This is an extremely sad day for white people who live in the east; a winter tornado on all of your houses you great white fuckups!
(still voting for the black guy, not the UPOP)
Mitt won Wyoming because Wyoming folks fu*k their cattle, and consider them 'wives', and have herds of them, so they feel an affinity with Mormons.
The New Hampshire outcome on the Democratic side, as far as the leaders go, was so close you sure couldn't call the difference in vote count a clear-cut case of black-and-white.
Huckabee was heard to mutter, 'If this is 'god's' will, I wish the old SOB would die and leave me the Keys to the Kingdom, as he promised'.
McCain was lying flat on his back, in bed, with Cindy bouncing all around him, delighted.
'For 'god's sake, Cindy, knock it off. You know I can't get it up, I barely have the strength to keep bamboozling the idiots with bullshit, and I gotta keep doing it for another eleven months. You're just gonna have to keep masturbating, use those dildoes I gave you for Christmas. Dammit, I'm over seventy-one, and I want to live until inauguration day'.
'ADD!, ADD!, ADD!, boy, talk about ADD, don't nobody remember 9/11, 9/11, 9/11, 9/11, 9/11, 9/11?' were Giuli's last words last night.
Extra class. I'm glad that people are kicked off this site for discussing the issues, yet this kind of thing remains.
C&L has really started to suck now, even the regulars. But, hey it earns money right?
And yeah, I still have a loving, decent family in Wyoming. Enjoy your sad little life, pal.

There were some weird anomalies in the results when comparing Machine VS Hand Counted
http://ronrox.com/paulstats.php?party=DEMOCRATS
Just look at how much Hillary benefited with MACHINE COUNTED votes and Obama didn't.
Obama had the higher percentage with the HAND COUNTED votes.
Kucinich, Gravel, Biden, Dodd, Paul, Thompson, and Hunter are all sitting down to play poker, throwing all their votes in the pot, 'Winner Take All'. They plan to keep the game going to February 6th, and if they end up with a delegate, they'll be able to maneuver at the convention for 'Assistant Liaison to Monaco'.
They invited Giuli to play, but he said 'Poker!? Poker!? Poker!?' What's that got to do with Nine-Eleven?'

Ok this is both hilarious and wrong: Conservapedia has on their front page
Yeah that's pretty racist - i know the "people" over there are known for being wrong and their little encyclopedia is a big funny joke (Conservapedia is the Vanilla Ice of wikis/encyclopedia), but come on. An "affirmative action" president? There's that good old republican ignorant racism - according to them black aren't capable of becoming president unless some white people give it to them. The funny part is that this is coming from a group of people who believe the universe was built in a day, it's only 6000 years old, and that a 600 year old man built an enormous boat and managed to put 2 of every animal on earth in it.
Sad.
Jeez I’m so glad to live in a European continent where churches are running empty, and youngsters go for humanistic values rather than hypocrite and intolerant religious dogmas. Talking about getting both sides of the stories: I had run into this story some days ago on FoxNews, but it didn’t catch much of my attention… Until I ran into to “Iraqi” side of story.
http://gorillasguides.com/2008/01/07/iraq-killer-of-us-soldiers-becomes-...
Now after reading this I went back to that FoxHeadline.
You can brag all about the truth lies in between the two extremes and such, but when about reporting or giving out a message it’s all about credibility and context. The US army and US news outlets have no credibility whatsoever left, the only thing they have proven is being a very partisan and hypocrit propaganda machine (qualifying the gang-bang of a 14yo Iraqi girl, the rape of an Iraqi women http://creativedestruction.wordpress.com/2006/07/13/american-soldiers-ar... etc…). On the contrary the Iraqi version makes a lot of sense, and considering the ethnic and cultural differences between US and Iraq and the way to react to different situations it seems very realistic to me. I’m glad I ran into that site by accident. Gives me a chance to fill in the stories I get from Irak, when only thing I get is the US lie but can’t really figure what would be closer to the truth.
The churches will soon run empty here in the USA, the truth is Religion has done nothing but disrupt the natural order of life and miss lead each person that trusted in it to guide them. There is not one religion that has brought any love or light to this world! NOT ONE

I urge all of you to listen to the following radio program online entitled: “Barack Obama, the Democratic Party and the Corporate State: False Hope and Short Change.” This is a show you will NEVER HEAR or be EXPOSED to on any MEDIA channel on your cable TV! “Taking Aim with Ralph Schoenman and Mya Shone” is one of the most enligtening programs anyone can listen to. I urge all of you to listen to this show as well as other shows they have done.
The latest show on “Taking Aim with Ralph Schoenman and Mya Shone” which you can download @: http://www.takingaimradio.com/shows/audio.html is a Call-In Program entitled – “Barack Obama, the Democratic Party and the Corporate State: False Hope and Short Change.” It is under: YYMMDD---080108
“Taking Aim with Ralph Schoenman and Mya Shone” is characterized on their site as being:
· Uncompromising, fact intensive exposés of the hidden workings of a capitalist system addicted to permanent war.
· Startling revelations that lay bare the operational plans of every U.S. administration since the 1950's to seize military control of the oil resources of Central Asia and the Middle East. The longstanding plans to fragment Iraq are detailed together with U.S. authorship of the repressive regimes of the region and U.S. deployment of weapons of mass destruction from biological agents to the tactical nuclear weapon of depleted uranium.
· Methodical examination of the false category of terror as an ideological rationale for wars of unlimited destruction, wars waged against the rights and social gains of working people everywhere under the cover of false-flag terror operations such as the events of 9/11 authored by U.S. rulers and their intelligence agencies.
· Taking Aim is an integral part of the fight-back of working people and the oppressed that is central to the survival of civilization. Once you hear Taking Aim, you will not miss a show, but if you do ...Taking Aim programs are archived on this Internet site, where they can be listened to online or downloaded in mp3 format to your computer.
This beating/battering a woman mantra Hillary and her enablers are dolling out is becoming sick. Especially when you realize what it implies and also understand that Hillary attacked Obama and Edwards first.
New Hampshire didn't really do much for me but I am, in all honesty, on pins and needles for South Carolina.
It will be pivotal for John Edwards but more importantly, I want to see how many of the "real" candidates Stephen Colbert beats.
Republicians the party of M A M M O N not God. Mammon defined as the "wealth personified and worshipped". Does that describe some political party we know?
We need a debate on Science..............forget the yes or no questions.......have a panel of Scientist ask the candidates questions.........real meat and potatoes questions on hard science...........no fluff questions from the MSM such as: who was your favorite science teacher?
Barack Obama LOST!!!!
His b.s. is starting to be very transparent. The Obama faerie tale has been exposed for the fraud it is. Obama is a fake. I have plenty of sources which points to the fact that Obama is backed by the monied fat cats so his shtick about "change" is a LIE!!!!
Obama's Big Gay and Black Problem
Thursday, 29 November 2007, 1:24 pm
Column: Black Agenda Report
by Kevin Alexander Gray & Marshall Derks www.blackagendareport.com
This article originally appeared in Counterpunch.
Barack Obama often seems confused in his search for a constituency. The ambiguity of his agenda causes his campaign to constantly collide with progressive principles. In the crucial South Carolina contest - the "Black primary" - Obama insults gays and "has done little to reach out to progressives inside and outside of the Democratic Party." It is, indeed, difficult to run forward and backward at the same time, yet Sen. Obama appears determined both to keep all options open and no constituency satisfied. His behavior forces progressives to conclude that "the most important questions for us revolve around what will a candidate do or say to win office." Apparently, in Obama's case, the answer is: anything.
There's a point in a campaign that's behind in the polls when desperation sets in. That's the time when trailing candidates try to throw the haymaker punch hoping for a knockout blow on the frontrunner. We are not at that point in this campaign season, but it's getting close.
It's no surprise that part of Barack Obama's South Carolina primary strategy aims at black church-going voters. The church is the most organized part of the black community and churchgoers are reliable voters. In addition, Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton's hiring of local high-priced preacher-politician-businessman Darrell Jackson and her husband Bill's clout with blacks puts additional pressure on Obama. The Illinois senator has to cut into Clinton's black support as well as establishing his own African American base.
If Obama doesn't win South Carolina with its large African American voter base the race may be over for him. His poll numbers in South Carolina have been up and down. Right now Clinton appears to have the overall lead in the state as well as with black voters. Clinton also has the edge with black women who regularly vote at a higher rate than black men....Oddly, Obama threw a premature haymaker but it wasn't aimed at Clinton. The target was the GLBT community. Obama's wild swing involved having four of the most abrasively anti-gay gospel singers represent his campaign on his "Embrace the Courage" gospel music tour in South Carolina. The gay bashing headliners included Reverends Donnie McClurkin and Hezekiah Walker, Pentecostal pastor of Brooklyn mega-church, the Love Fellowship Tabernacle and Mary Mary (a sister act duo)...The Mary Mary sisters compare gays to murderers and prostitutes. In an interview with Vibe magazine, one of the singers said, "They [gays] have issues and need somebody to encourage them like everybody else - just like the murderer, just like the one full of pride, just like the prostitute."....McClurkin's previous political involvement was performing for George Bush at the Republican National Convention in 2004. Now he's singing for Obama. And, while stumping for the candidate McClurkin didn't just "get on stage, sing, and shut up" as some in the Obama campaign hoped he would do. He sermonized: "God delivered me from homosexuality" - as though one could simply "pray the gay away." The predominately black crowd inside the Township Auditorium in Columbia clapped their approval of McClurkin's message. Meanwhile a small, predominately white group of gay rights supporters picketed outside the venue.

Obama Fails To Quell Row Over an Anti-Gay Singer
BY NICHOLAS WAPSHOTT - Staff Reporter of the Sun
October 26, 2007
A frantic effort by Senator Obama to defuse a row over the appearance of a homophobic gospel singer at a fund-raising concert appears only to have made matters worse...Mr. Obama's presidential campaign hurriedly added to the concert program yesterday an openly gay white minister, the Reverend Andy Sidden, to counteract the bad publicity generated by its decision to invite the Reverend Donnie McClurkin, a gospel singer who has described homosexuality as a "curse," to headline a fund-raising event on Sunday in Columbia, S.C.
The incident reflects the need for Democratic candidates to juggle the often conflicting demands of their supporters. Mr. Obama stands accused of trying to win the support of socially conservative evangelical Christian African-Americans, who make up half of the registered Democratic voters in the early voting state of South Carolina, at the expense of gays....Mr. Obama's campaign went into crisis mode yesterday, with his advisers on the homosexual community at the center of the storm. The senator personally fielded complaints from prominent gay donors and urged the president of the powerful gay rights group the Human Rights Campaign, Joe Solmonese, not to condemn him.

Last night's victory by Hillary was quite historic. A woman has won a presidential primary for the first time ever. I didn't think I'd see that happen this decade.
But let's be clear about where Hillary stands. he doesn't stand with us progressives. Let's look at what we perceive so far:
1. She will keep our troops rotating in Iraq for at least 4 more years.
2. She will not retire the 5-color Homeland Security warning system (we should write to her and get an officiall answer on this one)
3. She will not pardon John Walker Lindh (again, let's ask to be sure)
4. She might hire Albright as SoS? Really? Albright wants her job back so she can run Iraq?
5. Does this mean that Janet Reno wants her old job back too?
6. And while we're at at....Vernon Jordan. Does he want to be Presidential Counsel?
It looks like not only is Hillar going back to the White House, but a whole bunch of folks we thought were retired.
Freedom Rider: Obama’s Hollow Victory
Wednesday, 09 January 2008
by BAR editor and senior columnist Margaret Kimberley, Blackagendareport.com
Barack Obama flies high on white dreams of never again having to confront the realities of race in America. The likes of professional right-winger Bill Bennett sing Obama's praises as a "breakthrough" candidate who "never plays the race card." Hallelejah! Revs. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton will be consigned to the dustbin, never again to interrupt the mythical American narrative with their impudent accusations. Obama's Promised Land is a place of absolution for white crimes past, present and future. Like Colin Powell and Clarence Thomas, Obama proves the unprovable - that race is no longer "a factor in public policy issues."
"Obama has denied that racism is still a factor in public policy issues."
Barack Obama's Iowa victory and close second in New Hampshire may indeed be harbingers of things to come. The compressed primary schedule gives the winner of early primaries and caucuses a tremendous advantage in fund raising and press coverage. Some believed his stunning win in Iowa meant it might be all over except for the shouting. Obama could become president....Most black Americans will be happy, some overjoyed, to see a black man in the Oval Office. That joy will exist despite the fact that Obama has denied that racism is still a factor in public policy issues. In his speech at the Democratic convention in 2004 he stated, "There is no black America." No one should have been surprised when Obama had to be prodded before he said anything about the Jena 6, or claimed that, "The ineptitude was colorblind," in the response to Hurricane Katrina.
The media have already begun making fantastic claims attributing the backhanded treatment to his multi-racial heritage. Those ridiculous assertions must be dismissed out of hand. There is a lot less to Obama than meets the eye. He is little more than a very slick and very savvy politician. He knows how to impress and please powerful people, and speaking up for black Americans accomplishes neither one of those things....Obama has masterfully out maneuvered the amateurish Hillary Clinton. She isn't smart enough to know that she should at least attempt to give Democratic voters a little bit of lip service. While she voted in favor of a senate resolution against the Iranian government, Obama stayed on the campaign trail and conveniently missed the vote. In fact he is just as willing to go war as she is. He says his first act as president will be to bring the troops home from Iraq, but anyone who bothers to look at the fine print knows that the promise is hollow: "I will give them a new assignment and that is to bring our troops home in a careful, responsible way [emphasis mine], but to end this occupation in Iraq. I will call in my Secretary of State and initiate the diplomacy that's needed to make sure that exit is accompanied by negotiations between the Shiites, Sunnis and Kurds."
"Careful" and "responsible" are code words for maintaining the status quo and negotiations can go on forever. President Obama will not be bringing troops home, but he knows that mouthing anti-war sentiments will bring in votes from Democrats tired of being dismissed by party leaders.

Barack Obama's proudly stated "mentor" in the U.S. Senate is none other than Joe Lieberman!!!
Obama openly supported Lieberman over Ned Lamont in 2006. Some of Lieberman's political cronies now work for Obama.
If Hillary Clinton is so-called "Bush-lite," as I have heard, then Barack Obama should be considered an imposter of either Hillary, Joe Lieberman or even yes, George W. Bush.
Barack Obama is a FRAUD and a LIAR!!!

The number of uninsured in the U.S. continues to expand amid the hollow rhetoric. It’s been more than seven year since George Bush sold the American public on the notion of “compassionate conservatism”. Let’s hope that the election of a Democrat in 2008 will be the first step towards demonstrating it to 47 million Americans.

If a female candidate shows signs of humanity, we’re faced with a choice: is she weak, or is she calculating and manipulative?

Barack, Hillary, and the Sinister Nothingness of “Change”
Wednesday, 09 January 2008
by BAR executive editor Glen Ford,
Blackagendareport.com
When politicians offer nothing, and the people demand nothing, then the powers-that-be are free to continue doing whatever they choose. The death knell of participatory politics can often be a very noisy, celebratory affair - such as we have witnessed in the call-and-response ritual of "Change!" "Hope!" and other exuberant but insubstantial campaign exercises. Finally, the most accomplished slickster in presidential history, Bill Clinton, was compelled to expose Barack Obama's "fairy tale" anti-war history - some truth for a "change." Black Agenda Report knows the story very well, after more than four years of observing Obama's descent from vaguely progressive rhetoric to shameless pandering (to whites) and vapid "Change!" mantra nonsense. Only the rich can win this game.
"Although ‘change' may come, it will be at the direction of the rich."
The scam of this still-new century enthralls and envelopes the nation, a narrowly-packaged farce in which political twins Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama pretend they are not joined at the hip on every public policy issue that has been allowed to enter the corporate media-vetted discourse: health care, Iraq, trade. Even these points of (non)contention disappear in the din of purely commercial marketing mantras with infinitely malleable meanings: "Change," "Hope," "Reform."
When no real change is offered - when both frontrunners are wedded to a lingering presence in Iraq and to reestablishing U.S. hegemony in the world; when insurance and drug companies are left virtually untouched by duos' tepid forays into broadening health care coverage; and when neither offers a whisper of an idea on halting the corporate-engineered global Race to the Bottom, then it is certain that, although "change" may come, it will be at the direction of the rich who have brought the nation and planet to the very brink of catastrophe....Ironically, it was Bill Clinton who, on the eve of the New Hampshire primary, exposed the bogus nature of the stage-set battle between his wife and Barack Obama: "It is wrong that Senator Obama got to go through 15 debates trumpeting his superior judgment and how he had been against the war in every year, enumerating the years, and never got asked one time - not once, 'Well, how could you say that when you said in 2004 you didn't know how you would have voted on the resolution? You said in 2004 there was no difference between you and George Bush on the war. And you took that speech you're now running on off your Web site in 2004. And there's no difference in your voting record and Hillary's ever since. Give me a break. This whole thing is the biggest fairy tale I've ever seen."

Rep. Michaud seeks to impeach Cheney
By Walter Griffin
Tuesday, January 08, 2008 - Bangor Daily News
Democratic U.S. Rep. Michael Michaud has called for impeachment hearings into the conduct of Vice President Dick Cheney.
Michaud, who represents Maine’s 2nd District, expressed his position in a letter to House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers of Michigan last month. In it, Michaud charged that there was "no doubt" that the Bush administration had "dangerously expanded the scope of executive authority" and flouted "the constitutionally defined separation of powers."
Michaud said that serious allegations had been raised against the vice president regarding his role in providing "mischaracterizing information" in the run-up to the invasion of Iraq five years ago as well as the nuclear weapons capabilities of Iran.
He also cited the political retaliation against former CIA officer Valerie Plame, the abuse of detainees in contravention of the Geneva Convention and the illegal wiretapping of American citizens as other reasons for moving forward with hearings. Michaud referred to a recent poll which indicated that 70 percent of the American public believed that Cheney had abused his power.

I love Jack Klugman
Democrats received 10% more votes in New Hampshire than did Republicans.
With 99.33% votes counted total 515,764 votes were cast 55% Democrat and 45% Republican.
Great message.
1. I didn't know that Jack Klugman was still alive which is great. He did some great Twilight Zone episodes. 2. I appreciate the sentiment of the ad but Sound Science is a Republican buzzword that promotes anti-scientific stances and actually suppresses science. Read Chris Mooney's excellent book The Republican War on Science.
