Is Kansas Going To Let Kris 'Hannibal' Kobach Run Free?

A few weeks back we brought you news that the Chairman of the Kansas GOP, Kris Kobach, had sent out a Party email boasting of voter caging. That post made a bit of a splash, getting picked up by many blogs including the Huffington Post & DailyKos and was mentioned several times on Air America (Thank you, Thom Hartmann!) before it made it into the KC Star political blog, the Lawrence Journal, and even the AP. As Blue Tide Rising, the KS oriented political blog that first caught the now-infamous email, points out: "Kris Kobach is famous"
Well, I'm proud to announce that all the time spent exposing this partisan hack has paid off. The Wichita Eagle editorial board has awarded Kris Kobach with the "Hannibal Lecter 50-State Strategy" Award for "extraordinary achievement in the area of public fiascoes, flops and foolishness."
All kidding aside, what has become of Kobach's admission to caging "more voters in the last 11 months than the previous two years"? The blogs and even the media seem to have done their part. So, what happens next? Did it go unnoticed because the story broke during the holidays? We've yet to hear from Kansas Governor Sebelius or any of the Democrats running in '08 who could be most affected by any GOP election trickery, Rep. Nancy Boyda or Senate challenger Greg Orman (who is going up against Bush lackey Sen, Pat Roberts), what they think or whether anyone is going to dig deeper to find out just what the Kansas GOP's voter caging scheme is all about.
Despite artful protestations otherwise that raise even more questions, there seems to be even more an indication of wrongdoing now as Kobach has since tried to pass the blame for the email onto his subordinate, Kansas Republican Party Executive Director Christian Morgan. If there really wasn't any wrongdoing then why the questionable (non-denial?) denial and the setup for a fall-guy hot potato with the blame? Inquiring minds want deserve to know.
Let's hope that Kris Kobach will be explaining that email to a Grand Jury in the near future. Let's also hope that the Democrats will be diligently working to fight these illegal tactics......before November 2008.

Somebody step on a duck?
Kobach is trying to pass the blame now? Typical craven republican thug. Feh!
Kobach is what's wrong with Kansas.
As long as the farmers keep getting those welfare checks from the USDA, they don't care about anything else.
(Yes, I'm from Kansas. No, I'm not a farmer or a Republican.)

Was this used against black voters or just people that disagree with the Republican party? I understand this was reported twice in the 1980s to discourage black voters from going to the polls.
"I think the Democrats in America have no choice but to frankly, in many ways, cheer against America."
Bill ... A clue for you... We're not cheering against America, we're just making noise about the IDIOT'S who brought her down to where she is now ... namely, Six years of unchecked Republican shenanigans and skulduggery.
America has woken from it's sleep and is up off the couch. I can't wait to hear your whining once they lose their majority status.

Sorry, posted this under the wrong article..

Isn't that sexist?
Should that be personigan?
Sounds like a buffalo banquet.
I think you're a tad confused on the purpose of the division within the DoJ that deals with voter issues. Their new goal is to prevent minorities from voting with such things as IDs that can only be applied for during blue-collar working hours at sites that are at least 100 miles from the potential voter's home, preferably as far from bus-routes as possible. Their goal is not to enforce voting rights, nor to punish those who seek to prevent people from voting in meaningful ways.
To quote the Rugrats (in Paris), "that's a job for your mommy."
I actually know Greg Orman from when I lived in Kansas City. I just dropped him a line on the Kobach matter, and will report back if I get any kind of response.
Take care,
Paul

Seems congress is too busy looking into the use of steroids in baseball to be bothered with something this important.
pissed off patricia @ 12:
I know!!! Who gives a fuck about baseball? Slightly more pressing issues at hand...
If they won't prosecute the ones that have been active in election fraud in the past, the repugs will continue to break the laws.
Has Monica Goodling been forgotten already ...guess the Purge is working
"What the heck is vote caging, and why should we care?"

I talked to someone in Hanover NH last night. Population around 11,500. He said that everyone is "really puzzled" about the NH primary results. He said in post-election discussions he didn't know one person who did NOT vote for Obama, yet the results proved otherwise. Since both the Rs and Ds are asking for a hand recount, the issue of possible fraud will be put to rest. Should there be any funny business, Kobach will have klieg lights thrown on him by extension.

Like press my shirt?
No - Democrats aren't doing anything about the voting - they're all a bunch or pathetic wimps with no backbones.

Kansas has a town named Liberal. That is as close as it gets.
the state below was so uninventive that they put an ar on the front and use their name.
can you imagine a reason why none of the legislators that might represent the people being disenfranchised would be doing something?
Do they stand to gain from some other reason or is it sheer stupidity?
Are the democrats going to do anything about it?
Would these be the same democrats who are holding the door open for Bush and Cheney, as they (and their repuke cronies) steal the country blind on their way out of office?
Or the same dems who gave us the brilliant Pelosi strategy of telling lifelong criminals, that no matter how vile or dispicable their lawbreaking gets, they will not be held accountable.
I'm sure the repuke sociopath's are just trembling.
I just calculated I've used the equivalent of five mature redwood trees printing-out the criminal acts, prosecuted and pending, of the republicans during the past 7+ years.
And I'm way behind. And I can't be the only one.
So there's another Infamy we can chalk up to the Bush gang.
'Denuding a National Forest'.
Maybe we can hire Ashcroft to prosecute.
The old presumption that exposing malfeasance in the highest ranks of government or the Republican party will lead in any way to consequences should be put to rest. HEY PEOPLE - they frickin' OWN the Department of Justice and have STACKED the Supreme Court. The Media habitually bury stories of the highest interest to the country under trivia about Britney Spears or what ever white girl went missing somewhere.
A smoking gun used to be a prelude to some concrete reaction. Someone would actually be charged and tried for their crimes, or at least be forced out of office in disgrace. No more. Now a Repug can be found crouched over a still warm victim, blood dripping from their chin and a half-eaten human heart clutched in their hand - on high resolution video. No problem, CNN will just camp out at the base of Mt. St. Helens for a week and comment at length about the wisps of steam that come out every few hours.
As a Canadian I drive drive tourist bus (Buffalo to Canada and back) and in 2003 I got a speeding ticket while busing a group of people from Buffalo airport to Canada. I paid the ticket, there's no doubt in my mind because if I didn't, I could leave a bunch of people on the side of the road one day if I was pulled over again.
I went to pick my wife up at BA as she was returning from our condo in FLA and on our return, I was stopped for speeding.
After review of my license, the Amherst patrolman returned (with hand on holster and yelled to me to get out of the car. What happened after that was a 4 hr. ordeal where I was treated like a drug dealer or terrorist and thank God for my wife being there because it dawned on me, had she not been there (they disconnected my cell phone), only two policeman in the entire world would've known of my wherabouts. It proved to me one frightening thing.......you can disappear very easily.
With family (wife's mother and aunts were American) and friends in the USA, we cross the Niafara border at least 3 times per month. That has stopped immediately.
The USA is about as frightening and fear-oriented as East Berlin once was.
What has America become?
Razant @ 23
