Prose before Hos: Average Assets of Americans compared to Presidential Candidates.

I don't understand the point of this post. I remember that Gerald Ford once bounced a check while he was president and he was not a good president at all. Would you feel more comfortable if your candidate were poor?

Radically Moderate's picture

Mittster Romney must have screwed a few people along the way to accumulate that much wealth.
The MSM should talk to those folks.

Joe O.'s picture

After looking at that asset chart I am going to start referring to the Presidential race as the "Run of the Aristocrats".  it is obvious though, that a person's personal wealth does not equal wise leadership.  Look at George W. Bush.  He is rich but is dumber than a box of rocks.

Ron's picture

When I was growing up, we were taught that anyone could grow up to be president in our democracy. Now, they say you have to screw the poor to make yourself rich and then you can become president.

Rudy Giuliani - 40 Million Dollars
Mitt Romney - 100 Million Dollars*
Hillary Clinton - 51 Million Dollars
John McCain - 35 Million Dollars
Barack Obama - 2.5 Million Dollars**
John Edwards - 50 Million Dollars
Average American Household - .093 Million Dollars (93 Thousand Dollars)

WOW!!! You mean the average American makes 93 thousand a year!!! That's pretty good. I make good money, but come nowhere near 93 grand/year and don't know anybody in my area that does, except my bosses (who are both millionaires).

Huckabee is running on the Constitution. The Constitution that, in his opinion, sucks major ass compared to the Unchanging Word of the Living God.

OOPS, didn't see that. Thanks for pointing that out Ray. So an average American has assets of 93 Thousand then. Too bad it didn't show the balance sheet so the picture is clear. Just because Mitt has assets of 100 mill, doesn't mean he doesn't owe 110 mill.

O.T. a bit. The votes are in at msnbc for who won the debates last night. Clinton 20%. Obama 72%. Edwards 8.1%. Who are the bozos that voted in this poll. We know that the commentaters tried to focus away from John Edwards and the media this morning almost treated him like Kucinich, as if he wasn’t even there. I felt that Edwards was the most consistant with his message and his message is for change by taking our government back. I participated in the thread last night and there were a bunch of comments by people who wren’t even watching the debate. I have to wonder if the voters in msnbc’s poll watched it, also. I would like to see what the rest of you think.

I can hear now the howls and laughter from the rich when they hear that someone less well off wants to run for the Presidency. They probably say (add a Royal British accent to this), "Good God! He/she is a mere pleb. Only a nobleman can run for the Presidency."  The Pharaohs and Caesars of old would be pleased with what our nation has turned into.

On the other hand, you have Mike Huckabee who apparently wants to be the first "Pope Dumb ass I" and turn the United States into his nightmarish version of the Vatican.

Bread & Circuses's picture

What would be even more interesting is a before/after comparison of wealth. Before and after getting into public office.

Thank you very much for putting up a link to Prose Before Hos, a site that boasted on their front page a day after I refused to link to them, that they were rebels who'd be out impregnating people's daughters like it was a mere property crime against the parents of girls.

They're a bunch of misogynistic creeps as should pretty much be obvious from their name and the fact that after they claim to have had serious intellectual debates among themselves over the matter, found no issue with it, and no reason to listen to apparently the many 'unoriginal' women who had a problem with it. Why women should put up with, from liberal bloggers, the propagation of insults that got Don Imus fired, I don't know. Why we should have to deal with it in a year when Hillary Clinton has been microanalyzed for shrillness, cleavage, and 'fake' crying, I really don't know.

I've enjoyed this blog for years. I never thought I'd see the day when I'd be insulted at the top of the page here.

Pros before hos

This Progressive site is unbelievable........

Hillary Clinton is worth 50 million, give or take a few hundred thousand.

35 years of public service paid off handsomely.

All I got for voting for Bubba twice was NAFTA and foreclosure on my mortgage in 2007.

makes me wanna holler, throw up both my hands

Sorry for the offtopic comment but this is to let you guys know that if Pottersville disappears today for good, this ought to explain why.

Please pass along this story of the worsening problem that I'm having with my fascist (former) bank, Citizen's, which has not only terminated my checking account but has just informed me (prematurely) that they're shutting down my blog simply for factually writing about it.

A Woman of Principle

Wow! Reid, Pelosi, Obama, and Clinton all made the list for the Dems! That's quite an achievement!

soooo... general electric blocked dennis kucinich from participating in last night's debate...

why does it seem that no one is really alarmed by this? a war-profiteering corporation decides to ban an anti-war candidate....

like it or not (not), one's candidacy is made or broken based on televised coverage, and when the MSM (see, the corporatocracy) doesn't like a candidate--due to said candidate's challenge to corporate domination--and is able to dictate who, in essence, is a viable candidate, then the final nail has been placed in our democracy's coffin.

Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY): In addition to her long and sordid ethics record, Senator Hillary Clinton took a lot of heat in 2007 – and rightly so – for blocking the release her official White House records. Many suspect these records contain a treasure trove of information related to her role in a number of serious Clinton-era scandals. Moreover, in March 2007, Judicial Watch filed an ethics complaint against Senator Clinton for filing false financial disclosure forms with the U.S. Senate (again).

i know we are talking about personal holdings, and not campaign funds, but i think the following is important to never lose sight of.

hillary is not about change, nor liberal values (not that obama is either). hillary is about the status quo, american imperialism and neoliberal economic neocolonialism (just like bill)

"The US arms industry is backing Hillary Clinton for President and has all but abandoned its traditional allies in the Republican party. Mrs Clinton has also emerged as Wall Street's favourite. Investment bankers have opened their wallets in unprecedented numbers for the New York senator over the past three months and, in the process, dumped their earlier favourite, Barack Obama."
