Michelle Bachman Is Proud People Have To Work Two Jobs
By Nicole Belle Wednesday Jan 16, 2008 12:01pmTopping Congress's agenda as it returns this week is a plan to "jump-start the economy and try to shorten the slowdown that many economists say has already begun to take hold."
Today, Rep. Eric Cantor (VA), the chief deputy Republican whip in the House, unveiled his proposal to stimulate the economy. His legislation - the so-called Middle Class Job Protection Act - does nothing for the middle class. Instead, it reduces the corporate tax rate by 25 percent.
At a press conference today unveiling the stimulus proposal, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) justified the conservative plan to give tax breaks to corporations - instead of working Americans - by arguing that people actually like working long hours:
I am so proud to be from the state of Minnesota. We're the workingest state in the country, and the reason why we are, we have more people that are working longer hours, we have people that are working two jobs.
Bachmann's version of the American Dream is apparently working two full-time jobs and struggling to get by.
Hear that, John Edwards? Americans like working two jobs so corporations can get tax breaks. Two Americas, indeed.

"workingest"
is that a word
Ms. Backman, I'd like fries with that......and tonight I'd like my motel room a lot cleaner this time.
In other words, we're so happy to have
the most slaves.
workers = slaves (economic)
you people are all idiots. the best way to protect the middle class is to cut corporate tax rates. in case you forgot, it is CORPORATIONS that give people well-paying jobs so that we can have a middle class. not only to companies lay off employees when their costs (i.e. TAXES) increase, thus shrinking the middle class, but mostly those taxes get passed on to consumers via price increases (and oh no, this actually hurts more than just the middle class, it hits the lower classes hardest, where the percentage of their income spend on goods and services is much higher).
here is what I propose: go try to get a job from someone who is NOT rich, who is NOT part of a "big business" or corporation, and then tell me what allows there to be a large middle class in America. It certainly isnt the government, npo's or welfare recipients that create production, invent and distribute needed goods and services, and thus raise the standard of living for us ALL, INCLUDING paying wages that allow for a middle class. and lets not forget, just because some people are worthless (they have little or nothing to offer an employee) you think they deserve a free lunch; you say that tax breaks to companies are irresponsible, yet we need to increase the size of the welfare state and entitlements. Wake the fuck up already. youre not a cool, hip liberal. youre not a humanitarian, or an intellectual, or a proud "tree hugger". youre an idiot. COMPANIES INVEST IN PRODUCTION, AND CREATE JOBS ALONG THE WAY. without rich people and corporations, there would be no middle class; we would all be poor, leeching off the government for our food stamps and begging for whatever handouts our masters feel free to give us.
when you work, you EARN you money. yet you want to penalize those that do; thats why you oppose reducing the corporate tax rates. not to protect the middle class. if you cared about the middle class you would advocate FOR reducing tax rates, as ive just proven. your hypocracy shows through clearly, just like that of your wonderful leaders, who will run this country into the ground following your socialist agendas. the good news: you will be right along with everyone else, miserable crying "how did this happen?" and we will be the ones laughing, saying "yep, we told you so."
It's doesn't make any difference how many jobs you work.
The Old Economy is DEAD.
"Let them eat cake!" (And then a little later the Royalty was Beheaded)
He should finish it off by saying "Welcome to the New Guiled Age".
At least Bachmann speaks from experience; after all, she also has two jobs: Congresswoman and "corporate shill."
If only congress worked. Literally & figuratively.
Today, boys and girls our word for the week is "Disconnect".
Can you say that? Good. Let's use it in a sentence.
The legislators in Washington D.C. have a serious disconnect to the plights and needs of the American middle class.
Don't worry Duke McCain will save us.

My future grandchildren: "What was the middle class?"
How did MN elect such a bimbo anyway?
I thot us Okies was the workingest people in the country.
Reckon I'm gonna have to go out and take a third job to beat them Minnesot'ns.
when answering the question of a woman with three(?) jobs, didn't Bush once comment, "That's wonderful. Distinctly American."?
The Democrats will demand the middle class receive a token $150 tax rebate, then cave and agree to more corporate tax cuts
Could it be physically possible for these people to be more divorced from reality?
I can't see how.
I'm from Minnesota and I think I'm safe in speaking for most living here that working two jobs is not something we strive for. She was a nutjob in our state government and a nutjob now. I'd question how she was even elected but since we once elected Jesse "the body" for governor, I stopped asking those questions... they make my head explode.
And inflation is 6.2% for 2007. Raise you hand if you got a raise of 6.2% or better last year. Mine was 3% (I work for a non-profit and don't expect much) so I'm 3.2% in the hole. And most of the increased cost is due to the rising cost of oil. Lord Cheney is winning.
Shan @ 16:
I presume that it's less divorced from reality as divorced from a conscience. And it can get worse.
What a cow! Hey people of Minnesoda, you actually voted for this dufus? Have fun working dawn to dusk.
What's worse is, she is going to have some of the sheeple agree with her.
Powkat @ 18:
Notice how all this dynamic job creation we've had with Bush and the higher salaries have kept up with inflation?
Too bad the state is not the payiest state in the country, maybe then those with two jobs could afford a worthy lifestyle and...I don't know....lose one job to "spend more time with their family" like those fancy politicians like Bachman always do?!
Bachman is certifiable and a constant source of embarassment here in MN. Unfortunately she's not up for re-election in this cycle, but she should be getting the boot next time around.
Anyone have the clip of her swooning like a teenybopper before she got to kiss it?
[yes, I meant "it"].
This reminds me of Bush's gushing about the joys of working three jobs to make ends meet.
THE PRESIDENT: You work three jobs?
MS. MORNIN: Three jobs, yes.
THE PRESIDENT: Uniquely American, isn't it? I mean, that is fantastic that
you're doing that. (Applause.) Get any sleep? (Laughter.)
MS. MORNIN: Not much. Not much.
These people are swine.
I just don't understand what these people see when they close their eyes and envision the world. Do millions of people just disappear? Do giant corporations suddenly start doing what is right instead of what will make their bottom line look better? Does everyone just automatically know their place in the world and would never dream of striving to become one of the ruling elite? I just don't know.
P.D. @ 20:
Take it up with the 6th district, they're the ones that fell for this dolt. It was made abundantly clear what a religious nutjob she was, but she was able to squeak by the electorate. Hopefully the same electorate that's coming to the inescapable conclusion of what a monumental mistake they made.
L.A. Confidential @ 22:
take it one step further
notice how since the country's elites (GOP, Dem, business, media) bought into the reagonomics, washington consensus, corporate-overlord, neoliberal, economic ideology, we, as a nation, have sunk lower and lower since the early 80's.
yet, fools like this michelle 'empty vessel' bachman still scratch and bite for a continuation for the policies that have hurt millions of americans.
enough. enough trickle. enough corporate blowjobs. enough upper class coddling. enough.
Michelle {the oppressor} gets confused sometimes. I'm also from Mn. and I realize we deserve the scorn shown to us by falling bridges etc!!

One additional point is the the cost of energy and food is not part of the inflation numbers. Only after the price on these items has filtered through the economy and everything goes up.
the overarching mainstream economic view (from clinton to the late, not-so-great, friedman) is the problem.
privatization, corporate dominance, deregulation, etc
until that is confronted and challenged we will continuously have to swat at corporate favoritism (at the expense of the public) like this. it is the argument and debate we should be having.
Lets reduce her pay to ten bucks an hour. She then can achieve orgasm working 200 plus hours a week to maintain her lifestyle.
The rich are so good at class warfare, the middle class and poor don't even know it's going on over their heads.
Just remember folks, supporting family values has nothing whatsoever to do with valuing families.
Just more proof that practically any loose cannon can get elected to the House (see Katherine Harris in Florida). When I lived in Arkansas many years ago, they elected a certifiable moron named Tommy Robinson, who gained fame as the county sherrif. He turned out to be a crook as well as a Looney Toon. Embarrased the whole state of Arkansas -- and folks, that ain't easy!
I recently moved into her district. She drives me nuts.
Check out this quote:
"God then called me to run for the United States Congress, and I thought 'What in the world will that be for?' and my husband said 'You need to do this,' and I wasn’t so sure, and we took 3 days and we fasted and we prayed and ...he made that calling sure And its been now 22 months that I’ve been running for United States Congress. Who in their right mind would spend 2 years to run for a job that lasts 2 years? You’d have to be absolutely a fool to do that. You are now looking at a fool for Christ. This is a fool for Christ."
This woman sounds like a Katherine Harris clone. She's the kind of woman that gives other women a bad name.
So what is her total financial worth and where did it come from? She is fu*king clueless of what real life 24/7 is all about. Time for her to walk a life in the shoes of regular people.
I'd like to propose a law that protects endangered species by allowing them to be shot on sight, in vast numbers and with any weapon you can get your hands on. I call it the "2008 Don't Shoot Endangered Species on Sight Act".
Brilliant!
I talked with a gentleman 35 years my junior Who lost his job to out sourcing. One month later his wife lost hers the same way. She now works at McDonald's he delivers pizza and also works at Mcdonalds Bush economics at work 3 jobs replace 2 jobs at half the income and no health insurance and real jobs are out sourced. BTW throw 3 kids into the mix of course rethug thinking would be they where irresponsible having those children 10 years ago during the Clinton years
Tony K. @ 39:
Man, she has no idea the truth of those two last sentences. A fool indeed!
I'm surprised she found the time to take her lips off of some corporate lobbyists dick long enough to make that ignorant statement.
"Ok, Michele...you had your say, be a good Christian Republican woman, put your head back down and get back to work."
on the inane side... that picture. it looks like bachman is really going for it. that doesn't look like an innocent peck. it is a passionate monkey kiss.
watch your back bachman, condi is going to be fuming!!!
Samson- @ 45:
And George is thinking..."hmmm...tastes like ass."
Anyone running against her in Minnesota?
LibertyLover @ 47:
Someone would, but everybody's busy at their second job.
Watching Bernake testify today was surreal. He won't say it's a recession, but it is. Now the only things the Repubs are worried about is rescinding those obsene tax cuts. It makes me want to puke.
This woman worships Bush the way a puppy worships it's master. What dose that tell you about her mind?
So is Ms. Bachman working two jobs? And no, Congress doesn't count (it's not a real job).
konchster @ 42:
Last I heard Mcdonalds was going to out source the drive up window. They can't waste all that money paying someone to take orders.
OH GOD THE STUPID IT BURNS...
miss_kitty @ 48:
LOLOL! Well said!
She might have a point as we're seen Republicans vote for more and others don't vote or say a word. If we get a Republican President again Americans will be working 4 jobs and loving it.
Yes and this time the US will be owned by the Saudis who will collecting our tax dollars. Republicans have done a great job as robbing the US taxpayers while lining their pockets. Even the US Treasury Paulson is working hard to make sure he gets enough money for his personal company while he holds the job. Talk about inside trading at it's best yet not a word from the American people. Goldman Sachs was in on the scam from day one and always had big profits while other companies failed now we know why. Americans are left with just one choice either we pick a Republican or Hillary or Obama. With the choice of a Republican the Saudis will call in their loan and take over. If the pass to elections have shown the world anything about how smart Americans are I saw start learning how to speak the new American language which will be Arabic.
Somewhere Newt Gingrinch is smiling.
The Contract On America has been fufilled.
P.D. @ 49:
yeah, and pushing for a redx of corporate taxes
again, the same failed econ ideology that got us in this mess in the first place.
what was einstein's definition of insanity? Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
our "elected" officials are officially insane.
we have cut taxes for the wealthy and corporations, we have created a so-called "business friendly" environment, we have deregulated, privatized, created tax-havens, and tax loopholes for corporations. and... things are worse. so, what do our "elected" leaders propose? more of the same.
in-fucking-sanity
Guess its time to take the Boss' advice like he mentioned in 'Atlantic City'
Time to become a hired goon for the mob, just to make ends meet. I think I'll start in DC. Where's the baseball bat?
RayC @ 33:
Yes, "core inflation" - in other words, everything removed that might cause inflation. Of course, if the price of something goes down like computers - that always counts against core inflation. Quite convenient. The only thing core inflation really messures is wage inflation which only happens when too few people are chasing too many jobs. Not the case this time. Most of the inflation now is due to commodity competition which the government says is volatile and non-core. Social Security payments are measured on "Core", which is why a lot of poorer retired folks are getting screwed now.
If people don't work two jobs..the economy will slow...if that happens we'll slip into recession...then American businesses will begin to collapse...undermining our capacity to wage war against the terrorists...Iraq will fall...Iran will dominate us....and then......
THE TERRORISTS WIN!!
But...now worries...let's all SING! Gawwwwd....blesssss A MERRRR I CAAAAAA...LAAAAND THAT I LOOOOOOOVE....
Now get back to work.
We should email this quote to as many mainstream media outlets, particularly in her state and see if this gets any coverage.
I guess there is a disconnect because they do things differently on Bachman's planet.
Shan @ 16:
I'm with you! It's incredible how their fantasy has become our reality.
Work work work work
Work work work work
Workity work!
Wonderful work!
Workity work!
Wonderful
Work work work work
Work work work work
The stupid Reslug bitch just doesn't care about the dying middle class that she believes like to work 10 jobs, no sleep just to get by.
Remember the skit they used to do on Saturday Night Live where the actors were supposed to be people in some poor country and they would ask one another, "How many jobs do you have mon?" It was like the more jobs you had, the more you bragged about it. Maybe Ms Bachman thought that skit was real.
[Deleted. While not overt, the implication is fairly clear. We ask that posters not advocate violence against anyone else, no matter how odious we may all think them to be. Thanks-Sitemonitor]
woman? no a republican.
Bushy boy is passing on his herpes cold sore to his favorite Reslug whore.
God forbid a working person should be able to house, clothe, feed and entertain a family of four on one 40 hr/wk job. I vaguely recall a time when this was so. Am i mistaken?
americangoy @ 67:
Real nice.
The First Amendment does not say you have to be right or sane.
Ad hoc or emergency situations are always the best time to ram something through that might receive greater scrutiny under normal circumstances. Since most agree that we're now headed for recession, it's now a debate of how to best get an emergency influx of cash into the economy. The best way is to reduce taxes and let the government borrow the gap at a low interest rate. Since a tax cut is now the consensus, again everything is dumbed down again to class warfare. Too bad, it should be about how best to avoid a recession. So the key is not tax cuts per se, but what tax cuts will be the most effective at avoiding a bad recession, what everyone wants.
The problem with corporate tax cuts, is they're liable to just sit on the money. Many might see no good investment oportunities and just hoard the money and wait for the rcession to end. On the other hand tax cuts to lower income folks will have much more predictable outcomes - money will likely go to normal consumtion.
One problem with all this though, since we're so leveraged, we play a dangerous game with any tax cuts. If we overleveage our government spending, foreign investors might throw in the towel and we're in bigger trouble than when we started.
I'm from California so I had never heard of this woman before, but I just saw her on Hardball and can I say: WHAT A TOTAL NUT JOB!
Did people actually elect this woman? She's talking about having the press investigate every member of congress to see if they have a hidden anti-american agenda. Can you say "Senator Mc Carthy?"
Just search her medical records. And there are others like her in the House.
Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) justified the conservative plan to give tax breaks to corporations - instead of working Americans - by arguing that people actually like working long hours:
"I am so proud to be from the state of Minnesota. We’re the workingest state in the country, and the reason why we are, we have more people that are working longer hours, we have people that are working two jobs."
Bachmann’s version of the American Dream is apparently working two full-time jobs and struggling to get by.
This is an outrage Rep. Michele Bachmann . We are a free people and Not Your Slaves. I like working less and have more time for my family. Whatever happened to the Idea of a 4 day work week at the same pay as 5 days? Are we just economic slaves for the Corperation? This Corperation controling Government Must End! We Must ALL Say NO!!!!! To these Crooks or find a "Death Note" ;)
Screw tax cuts. Only increases inflation. I want REAL money put in my hand--don't give me tax breaks, give me a strong US dollar!! (And definitely don't give the tax breaks to corporations, because it DOESN'T trickle down!!)
pissed off patricia @ 66:
That was the Jamaican skit series on "In Living Color," mon. :D
LET THEM EAT CAKE!
Yes
The tax cut is going to help business expand and grow which will mean lower unemployment or at least keeping them from laying people off. Giving it to "working Americans" is only a short term fix, they spend $300 or whatever and in a few months they wants more!!
I want to have Edwards do something about this so I volunteered last night. It's not bad work- very flexible.
chris @ 77:
And right now Santa's little elves are busy building toys for all the good girls and boys for next Christmas!

klunk …hmmmm… i thought you guys abolished slavery… No They just made all people into slaves using the 16 amendment. Black White Yellow Blue Green Red it does'nt matter we are All Slaves Here in the U.S.S.A.
giantpeach @ 73:
A strong dollar is not what we need now. Its like swigging hard liquor when you're dehydrated. The export sector and foreign receipts are crucial to us now and it's only happening becuase of a weak dollar. Sounds like you've been listening a bit too much to Ron Paul.
chris @ 77:
Chris,
That may be the theory behind it, and in fact if it weren't for crooked executives it might have a chance at working. But the plain fact of the matter is, corporations have turned a blind eye to the needs of the workers for many years, choosing instead to reward their executives for "smart business decisions" (read: firing employees) with huge, multi-million-dollar bonuses.
If every CEO of every multi-billion-dollar company took a 5% decrease in salary, and the proceeds split among the non-executive personnel, the middle class would enjoy an economic boom unseen in the last century. But company after company after company has been lining the pockets of their executives with absolutely ludicrous salaries -- particularly gas and oil companies, who increase their CEO's bonuses every year while continuing to hike the price that we pay at the pump because "oil is is such short supply and we need to meet expenses."
That's GOP family values for you! Slave for the corporations and work two (or, better yet, three!) jobs! Who cares about you damn children?
unfrozencaveman @ 85:
Actually what we need is Productivity. What are we producing that gives the U.S. a competitive advantage?
Youtube?
I live in Northern MN. My wife and I work 2 jobs each and barely get by. NONE of the jobs in our house involve flipping burgers. I work in the IT industry and a local restaurant on the side. She manages an office of financial advisors and teaches at a private college. Bachman gets an 'F,' as in, "F you Bachman!" Hopefully Al Franken will help straighten all this out.
I would like a day off soon.
repubs want everyone to work in the conditions of Sinclair's The Jungle so we don't have time to be politically active to stop the second gilded age enablers
First, it was we must enslave the Africans because they're so damn "lazy and shiftless" and won't do anything unless we force them to (Karl Rove still uses this rhetoric to race bait). Then it was we can't give them land after we freed them because it would only encourage idleness and be nothing more than a handout...Now it's we can't help the worker because they love things this way, they love getting their jobs outsourced because the number of jobs they have is now a symbol of status. The more you have, the better off you are.
chris @ 77:
That's what a stimulus package is - a short term fix. This is about avoiding a recession that may be happening right now.
The economy's doing really well! Look how many jobs Americans are holding to make a living!
chris @ 77:
fool me once....
won't get fooled again.
and, in risk of upsetting your blissful ignorance, we--americans--have bent over backwards for corporations. we have allowed them to run roughshod over the country. and the thanks we get? outsourcing, dangerous products (toys, pet food, etc.), more extreme income disparity, etc.
your disdain for working americans is noted. you consider them like children that need to be guided by their corporate parents.

Aach, this deranged twat is doomed to ignominy. She will be marginalized in the tsunami election ahead and then be tossed in the mid term to follow. Minnesota is a teutonic schizoid place. Most cops would not waste time busting Larry Craig for bathroom cruising because they view it as yucky. They would prefer the glory of busting real criminals.
I was accosted by a little blonde Nazi cop in a bus terminal in Minneapolis who thought I had pot and he made me show him my smoldering Marlboro butt on the sidewalk before he went away. I hate that idiot teuton state and hope Al Franken upends it. I actually had an ounce of weed in my pocket and got baked in the Fargo ND Bus stop where no one gave a shit.
Can we discuss the unseemly influence of toxic Germans in America and their birthrates and their lack of clue about an English notion of a republic? I am very disturbed by the germanification of America. Look up German culture xenophobia, conceit and readiness to meddle and look up birthrates. I'd rather deport them than harmless meso American wrecks who are stigmatized as illegals.
Bachmann and the Republicans aren't worried about the working class. It's against their principles to help people. We know that already. The economic stimulus package they are pushing is a gift to Wall Street, in an attempt to slow the coming crash. Reducing corporate taxes has the same effect as lowering the cost of capital, it's an instant adjustment to the bottom line and earnings per share.
I have been posting that the Republican agenda is an economic agenda, following the Friedman Chicago School doctrine to the letter. If you look at their actions in that context, everything they have done, no matter how incompetent they seem for doing it, makes perfect sense.
There is a special place in hell reserved for these slimy bastards.

Aren't Republicans supposed to be pro-family? How can you spend any quality time with your family if you're working two jobs? How are you supposed to be involved in your kid's life if you're working 80 hours a week?
I love it corporations haven't paid their fair share when it comes to taxes for a long time now also for some moving offshore is the way to skirt taxes my question is Do these corporations still get government contracts?
I find it also funny that some in congress think it's fun working 2 jobs when those in congress seem to be doing anything but their jobs( off early for a football game off early to go on a fact finding mission ( taxpayer paid vacation)
I mean I am of an age when there was at least one parent at home and the family lived well.
Corporations are considered individuals so why aren't these individuals paying their taxes?
Notice the wording on the bill Middle class job protection act not corporation give away act shouldn't there be truth in wording oh that's right this is government who gave us the wording death tax

jackp @ 109:

I thought after Bachman's behavior at the last State of the Union address (where she clung to Bush like a stalker and squealed like a twelve year old girl at a Hanna Montana concert), she couldn't embarass herself any further. I was wrong. Speaking as someone who works two jobs, I don't do it for pride, okay? I do it to make ends meet. (And one thankfully is only part-time; I couldn't handle two full-time jobs.)
Stupid woman. Katherine Harris gets kicked out and she slides right into the slot of "Brainless GOP Bimbo."
unfrozencaveman @ 107:
Many major banks / financial institutions are reporting record losses, energy costs at record high, inflation high, record national debt, Trillion dollar cost of Iraq, etc. There is such too much bad economic news. I think we are seeing the results of 7 years of Bush Admin decisions and are in for a "rough patch". I sense that the politicians recognize it too - can see it in their faces & tone of voice!
Wait till they are on their death beds at 85 years of age and realized they spent their entire lives proudly working 2 jobs to pay for oil wars and tax cuts for the top 2%.
Boy, talk about regret.
This is the way they have always looked at the middle class. plus they think because hard working Americans take two jobs they can take credit for these "new" jobs they created. and still claim unemployment is down, well this of course is horse sh!t. unemployment will continue to rise as long as people have to "hog" two jobs in order to make ends meet.
bob @ 69:
No, not mistaken...my dad did this for years and was able to retire comfortably.
Then along came Reagan and Bush1 and well, you know the old saying...
the rest is history.
I wonder how much they paid her to say "workingest"--it sounds like she was channelling Bush.
Bush and Bernanke push corporate socialism
The financial types made, packaged and sold huge numbers of poor mortgages. As they traded these shoddy assets back and forth amongst themselves they, (Wall Street) paid themselves $25 billion in bonuses for 2006 and $32 billion for 2007.
Now Bernacke and Bush recommend a stimulus to replace the missing equity capital in the financial system. How can this not be called socialism? Or is socialistic tinkering with the system to protect the rich called a stimulus package while providing health care is oh so unAmerican.
The nation's debt has skyrocketed from six to nine trillion dollars under Bushco and as a legacy for his last year he will oversee spending a couple hundred billion dollars we don't have to bail out his cronies.
Meanwhile a useful scorecard to watch is that the Pound and the Euro continue to soar against the dollar even while Europe provides a social net for the health and retirement of their workers.
We get to inject billions into the economy in an act of corporate socialism; Wall Street takes out $57billion and yet helping the poor with medical bills and heating costs remains a danger to the American psyche.
As the accountants say: "Go figure."

Airbus has kicked our ass. The lower dollar means nothing, most international airlines have already upgraded their fleets and won't be doing so any time soon due to the global recession. Oh...even Federal Express placed orders for the A400 Doubledecker plane made by Airbus for use as a cargo carrier. The U.S. hasn't put out a major seller in YEARS. The 747 was the last one. Sure, lots of planes on the drawing boards or in prototype...but we aint' sold SHIT. That is why Bush went to Israel and Saudi Arabia...he is selling America's ONLY significant exportable product....WEAPONRY.

Here he comes, like clockwork on these economic topics. We don't want tax cuts you moron, we want a strong economy where our jobs aren't shipped overseas and we can work decent hours for a modest f*cking lifestyle. Not 2 or 3 jobs just to barely be able to pay for our food, shelter, heat, and gas. We don't want the people who continue to screw us year in and out to have even more money in which to scheme how they're going to screw us some more.
How about instead of some rich, fat ass, calculating jerk-off deciding whats a worthy investment, we have employee investment, in which employees own shares in their own company, thus having a say and reason to care. I mean, that is what a true "corporation" really should be right? No, instead we have a class who controls the money, and a class that slaves just to earn enough to get by. Get a f*cking clue for the last time, these economics are failing the country and your too deaf and dumb to even see it.
How much America has changed in 20 years... it's sad.
And so called "free market. supply siders" like Chris continue to spew the same old "trickle down" bullshit from the 80s.
The chickens have come home to roost. Our manufacturing base has been hollowed out. Sure, anyone can find "pockets' of growth, but the fact is....our trade deficit is ENTRENCHED. Any decrease is solely based on the value of the declining dollar, in keeping with CLASSIC economic theory. The result will be the total collapse of the U.S. dollar in order to bring the system back into equilibrium. Sounds great on paper...but it's really a bitch on the people that have to live through it.
Our budget deficit is entrenched. Want to fix it? RAISE TAXES. Where? On the people with the money....rich people and fat cat corporations. Basic economic theory. Of course, its a bitch on those that have to live through it...but of course...they created this mess...so...welcome to the free market. You fuck up...you pay. Period.
Stock Market fallling...oh geeez...ya think? Why? Falling profits due to increased prices on imports (refer to...American products shippped back to US...as the declining dollar has made those so-called cheap labor products EXPENSIVE...how'd that outsourcing thing work out for ya!).
Ok...class over. Have a nice day.
There are 2 Americas. At what point to we allow the conservative voting red states to secede the union in order to save the rest of the country? I don't know how much more constitution shredding, election tampering, court rigging, theocracy, deficit spending, warmongering and safety net pulling we can stand. Maybe it's time to cut the dead weight before the spreading cancer becomes inoperable. Consider letting the southern, central west and lower midwest states go while there is still something of this country left to save. I think our founding fathers would approve. I mean look at these presidential polls. After 10 years of a GOP congress and 7 years of Bush, 45% of this country would STILL vote for a Republican president! These idiots neve learn and they are dragging down the rest of the nation. The south wanted to secede the union during the civil war. I'm starting to think we should have let them go and I say this as a native southerner.
The RePug line is breathtakingly laughable-Except it's not funny. I read a PePug rag called 'TownHall' that 'reported' that ....get ready.....high oil prices are GOOD for the economy.

You're kidding right? Boeing is over inundated with orders for civilian aircraft-hence this announcement yesterday:
Boeing explains new 787 delay
---snip---
"...More than 50 customers have placed firm orders for 817 Dreamliners. It was not immediately clear how many of those customers will be affected by the latest delay...."
and this:
Boeing still No. 1 jet maker
---snip---
"...Boeing sold 72 more planes than its rival Airbus last year. And though Airbus delivered a dozen more airplanes, Boeing's deliveries included many more of the expensive wide-bodies, so it came out ahead on the total value of airplanes delivered..."
And,by the way, when people are too busy working to follow the Real issues that affect their lives,it suits the Thugs just fine.
Liberal AND Proud @ 123:
I realize everyone is entittled to their own world view on things, but you do a real diservice to yourself when you ramble on about stuff that is simply false. Airbus' struggles with the high Euro exchange rate have been well-documented.
On behalf of my fellow Minnesotans, i'm so very, very sorry.
I hated Michelle Bachman back when she was just a wild-eyed, batshit-insane, crucifix-humping dominionist.

Wealth goes to communities that own things, and almost everday we hear about a Middle Eastern entity buying a large stake in a US company at firesale prices. There's goes wealth and ownership...

Certainly not mistaken. ANY baby boomer should know this, because they grew up during a time when, in general, one income could support a household of 4. One of the cruelest and least understood things the republicans and corporate america did since Reagan was to begin the destruction of the American middle class, beginning with the necessity of having TWO incomes to support a household instead of one (to me, that's a 50% decrease in standard of living right there). Sure, there were new "toys" due to technology and whatever that people wanted to buy, and is one excuse used for needing two incomes. BUT...baby boomer's parents had lots of new toys as well compared to their parents of the Depression era, and guess what? They still could make it on one income.
When on God's Green Earth will people in this country come to their senses and realize that the first step in their financial destruction was the necessity of a two-income household to make ends meet? Wages certainly have not kept up with inflation. Which brings us to the 2nd part of this destruction which is now underway...the wholescale devaluation of the US Dollar and the shifting of wealth from the middle class to the rich via interest and debt.
Congratulations, Americans, we have voted for, allowed and aided (through greed) this wholesale transfer of wealth and the eventual demise of our economy which is well underway, We have been in recession for a year now, and the outcome of the housing disaster, devalued dollar, and loss of jobs will be as painful as the Depression of 1929. Probably hyperinflation first, then the inevitable after that.
(I"m sure I'll be slammed but it's hard to condense three decades of a contrived middle class decimation into one paragraph. Meanwhile, onward Christian (Republican) soldiers march on..towards your next war, to bankrupt the once-republic even more)
Bachmann's (a.k.a. Kissymonster) primary opponent, Bob Olson, in CD-6 came out with this response yesterday:

My point was that the game is already over. Sure, Boeing looks great in sales...but the bottom line is it is a race to the bottom. Boeing is selling a cheap asset based on a declining currency. By the time the planes delivered, the prices will have been negotiated down. The contracts will be cheaper than originally forecasted. Are we succeeding because our currency is collapsing faster than theirs...is that the root of our success? It's a hell of a way to run a busines or a country.
I thought the goal was to sell products successfuly because they are better...or are Boeing airplanes now the equivalent of the little green soldiers that we imported from Japan in the 1950s?
In the Bush vernacular, you have to interpret it by holding a mirror up to it and then reading what it really says: Middle Class Job Protection Act is Outsourcing Initiatives and Tax Breaks Act
We are to become mindless drones who serve at the pleasure of our corporate Masters. Just smart enough to make the machine run, and earn enough to keep us alive, but too smart or financially viable enough that we may get out of hand. We are all easily replaced or eliminated. There are thousands of illegal immigrants who would gladly do the job for far less.
And for the rest of it...all those free market, supply side spewing corporate CEOs and the enabling assmonkeys in the business press and ignorant morons that support the mindless flag waving, have destroyed this country through obscene "labor arbitrage", anti labor regulation, work rule abuse, and destruction of our manufacturing base which has led to the undermining of our currency and ultimately to the undermining of our very country, should be tried for treason and conspiracy to commit treason and hung from the very flagpoles from which they wave their flags.

No, workingest is not a word....Michele Bachmann is taking a page out of GW's book.
What a freaking dope...I don't no what is worse, the use of a non-word or the context in which she is using it.
I am off from 6pm until 9pm. Other than that, I work from 8am in the morning until 2am the following morning at two jobs. I work seven days a week. I haven't taken a vacation in I don't know how many years. I can't afford health isurance. And my primary form of recreation is praying that the car doesn't break down.
But at least I have a college education, so I'm less likely to say anything that includes a word like "workingest."
Bachmann can take a long suck off the snotty end of my fuckstick.
This woman has got to be the dumbest see you next Tuesday in Congress!
Can we PLEASE elect John Edwards?!?!
Liberal AND Proud @ 137:
So you're saying boeing airplanes are pieces of sh*t? Well if that is the case, we better stop walking, driving, bicycling all of which are much more dangerous than a boeing or any other airplane for that matter.
Spewing about those wonderful Boeing gains is so easy...because its easy to simply focus on "dollars". OOOOh....look at thooooose millions. The dollar is a declining asset. The goods that those dollars back are declining assets.
We're not all of a sudden becoming more competitive because of progress, innovation and talent...no...we're holding the biggest garage sale in history!!!
And spare me the typical right wing analogies comparing apples to oranges.
I didn't say that the planes are pieces of shit. I am saying that they aren't any better than Airbuses. They are selling because they are cheaper. Plain and simple. Not because of improved manufacturing processes, not because of increased profitablity....but because the U.S. DOLLAR is turning to SHIT.
meant increased productivity...not profitability.
