The NYT exposes an authoritarian, vengeful and petty Rudolph Giuliani
By SilentPatriot Tuesday Jan 22, 2008 11:00am
The New York Times ran a fantastic front page article yesterday entitled "In Matters Big and Small, Crossing Giuliani Had Price" that goes into great detail about Giuliani's tenure as mayor and his frightening authoritarian streak. Would you believe St. Rudy of 9/11 had a man who complained about a questionable speed trap arrested on a 13 year old traffic-ticket warrant after he went to The Daily News with the story? That really shouldn't surprise you at this point, but I did learn a lot about this frankly terrifying candidate I didn't know.
Orangutan's comment from the other day (in which he quotes a 1994 Giuliani speech on crime) pretty much says it all:
“Freedom is about authority. Freedom is about the willingness of every single human being to cede to lawful authority a great deal of discretion about what you do.”
Paging Mr.Orwell. Mr.Orwell. In my humble opinion, Rudy Giuliani is by far the most extremist and dangerous of the Republican candidates that could succeed George W. Bush.
Former NYC mayor Ed Koch wrote a book some years back titled "Giuliani: Nasty Man" that chronicles all the extremism to come out of City Hall during the 1990's. Truly scary stuff.

roach powder works on these cocka roches!
This is news???? Uh, no.
An authoritarian and nasty republican? What is the world coming to?
We know. He's republican.
So has there been any further news on the whistle blower who outed those agencies for selling nuclear secrets?
Rudy has no chance of the nomination. He's just along for the ride, and hoping for a chance to 911 a few more times at the convention.
whoa, bet this will only pump him up to number one on tweety's slutball's 'power rankings' ............
Rudy's toast.
After coming in 3rd in Florida, he will slink back to NY, and his
consulting firm, bilking rich Oil Sheiks by selling his "so called"
ability to scam the system.
But, the bloom is off the rose, I think the phones may not
be ringing off the hook anymore.
Don't tell Judith (don't call me Judy) but it's time to stop
planning the new window treatments for the West Wing....
This guys inconsequential.
Why are we even wasting time on this nonsense?
I want to thank Mr. Guiliani for explaining the "1984" Party slogan, Freedom Is Slavery, better than anyone since Orwell. Only a true follower of Big Brother could have summed it up so well.
Too bad he won't be nominated. He would lose the election to just about any Dem. When he withdraws he will find a way to blame 911.
Rude-i likes to call it giving his enemies 'The Mussolini Headkick'!
(apologies to the band).
As one who lived through his reign, this ain't nothin'. The longer he stays in the race the more the country will discover what a truly despicable character he is... keep on running Rudy. If it's Rudy and Hillary, it might actually be an interesting race, but will doom our country either way...
I hope he doesn't disappear completely. Keeping Rudy around exemplifies first hand what is wrong with the reich-wingers. He's a perfect reminder.
Yep, me and my fellow NY'ers know about this as just ONE example of the BS that man is capable of.
Giuliani won't get the nomination, so don't worry.
coleshack @ 9:
yeah, that was peachy, wasn't it?
life in guiliani's united stadts of amerikkka!
Yes - he's a nasty bit for ure . . . .s
*
Good thing he's dropped to fourth in Florida. I'm betting it won't stay that way, though. After all, since the harder he campaigns, the less people like him, I figure he'll finish in sixth place about 15,000 votes behind Ron Paul, and 100,000 behind Romney or McCain.
Hegel much?
Posts on Giuliani, Huckabee, Thompson etc. are kicks against dead horses. The real news story for me today is that in the name of bipartisanship on the economy, the Democratic leadership is going to "stall" on the contempt charges against Harriet Miers and Josh Bolten. This is not a country of laws, folks, when the government and corporations will never be investigated or brought to trial. (But what a convenient word, "stall".) There are too many apparent quid pro quos going on between the Republicans and Democrats. Just yesterday it was announced that the Clinton WH records have been destroyed, and today this news about Bolten and Miers. I see lots of negative comments today on Nancy Pelosi and sometimes Harry Reid, but it is not the actions of these two alone but a party to party agreement which is the cause of the Bush administration getting away with everything, and I will not vote for another Democrat again unless he or she takes a clearly spelled out stand against this corruption and collusion.
Hmmm...
Man was speeding, didnt pay his fine, warrent was issued, was arrested.....
How dare NYC go after someone who:
1) Broke the law
2) Didnt pay the fine
Wow......
I agree Rudy is pretty bad, but Romney is definitely on the same level. Here is a link to a great article by Charlie Savage regarding the lust for power among the candidates.
http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2007/12/22/candidates_on_exec...
Like this clown has any chance of a nomination - but still, scary that enough there a re people, albeit a SMALL NUMBER of people, who would still vote for him - and solely for his SO-CALLED "heroics" on 9/11.
Oops, sorry, Rudy - you own the exclusive rights to "9/11" - do I owe you some kind of commission for saying it here?
You sniveling weasel!!! Come February 6th, the sun will shine bright that day you drop out of the race...but will it be for "health reasons" or because you're getting your lisping ass kicked by the American voters who despise everything you're made of? We'll soon see...
Rudy is well known for his totalitarian leanings. He has also trampled on freedom of expression for artists and said this as part of his court arguments:
But hey, You're in the 9/11 Generation! Come Alive!
Hmmm…
Man was speeding, didnt pay his fine, warrent was issued, was arrested…..
How dare NYC go after someone who:
1) Broke the law
2) Didnt pay the fine
Wow……
Hey now, and Rudy's ONE FAN makes an appearance! Are you the one who voted for him??
It's news because it's the slime-coated underbelly of what passes for leadership in America.
And there must be a school where they teach this crap, or perhaps it's one of those seminars you attend on a weekend when you're not having the police schlep your mistress around town and stand guard while you're porking her.
"There ought to be limits to freedom," George W. Bush once said, and that's exactly what his administration has wrought, both with our compliance and with the aid of weak-kneed Democrats who are more afraid of being cast as 'weak on terror' than standing strong against the fear mongers and faux patriots who are turning this country into the very thing we despise in others.
Rudy sounds like It from 'A Wrinkle in Time' - life is so much better if you submit to authority and become an unthinking drone with a pliant, easily-conditioned mind.
But Rudy's not alone. Hillary Clinton trotted out the 'We've got a lot of work to do' line - a favorite of Bush's from 2000, which basically said, "Get out of my way, peasant, you're interfering with my being president."
Anyone who's ever had a bad boss, or labored under an office buried in corporate speak will recognize that tone and that 'respect my authori-tay' crud. Hillary's even sailed the 'I make hard decisions all the time' line.

I'd say 'dead' rattlesnakes. Always a risk one of 'em is just napping, and will up and bite you. (Though I think Fab Freddy 'wouldn't go zoom if you put 2,000 volts through 'im,' to quote Monty Python.)
War Is Peace
George W. Bush: "You got to understand. When I talk about War, I'm talking about Peace.
Freedom Is Slavery
Illegal arrests, illegal eavesdropping, illegal searches and seizures, illegal trials, illegal imprisonment and illegal torture for your security.
Ignorance Is Strength
Erased tapes, sealed records, refusing to appear before congress, lying before congress and the ever-popular executive privilege.
Are we there yet, Mr. Orwell?
Chicago Joe @ 25:
Not even close......you're not as smart as you obviously think you are.
No, I'm actually smarter! :-)
“Freedom is about authority. Freedom is about the willingness of every single human being to cede to lawful authority a great deal of discretion about what you do.”
This is a religious notion too. This is how religious folk rationalize god's supposed authority over humans while still favoring 'freedom'.
Just sayin'
Chicago Joe @ 30:
Well, jeez, being from Chicago, you must be a Obama supporter...
I wouldnt vote for Rudy if it meaqnt a spot on the ticket. Only one individual out there worth a damn, and his name isnt Kucinich. (However, I thought Kucinich's cameo on TDS last week was hilarious)
Jay @ 21:
Is it routine in your world to look up someone's criminal record when they complain to you? And unless you ALWAYS observe traffic laws to the last jot, you really shouldn't throw stones ...
*bash* Oh, and by the way - you've got a busted taillight, Sir. I'll have to write you a citation.
*ZAP* Now, Sir, unless you comply, I'll have to taser you again.
*slam* Watch your head, Sir.
"It was a routine traffic stop, the suspect quickly became unreasonable and refused to comply with the officer's lawful orders, and had to be subdued using non-lethal means ..."
Jay @ 21
The man was innocent. There was no corpus delecti.
Rudy's problem is that he's living in the wrong place and time.
Sort of like some commenters -- right, left or otherwise -- who thrash around on the wrong blogs (I'll confess to that).
He would have been much more at home in, say, Nazi Germany.
Rudy, Vilified by NY Times, Changes His Stump Speech
Giuliani’s campaign is toast.
why bother posting articles about him?
fuck, this guy got off easy (the traffic ticket chill factor), rudy claims to have had people tortured when he was the DA.
an arrest warrant is better than torture. so, in that regard, i think rudy showed great restraint in not torturing this man. humanity does not come easy to this guy, so i think we should be appreciative when he acts less reptilian and more human. of course i am being snarky--rudy has no human side.
Chicago Joe @ 30:

Trying to figure out through your carefully orchestrated text above what direction you're going in, but I can't. So, let me see if I can figure this one...cuz I'm one of those Chicago dumbasses in your view. OK, you don't like Rudy or Kucinich...and obviously not Obama.
So, are you going to be man enough to enlighten us all on who you support? Or are you one of those who talks big (albeit obscurely), but waits until the a winner is pronounced before declaring sides?

After Florida, no one will care about this poor excuse for a man.
They can add him to the scrap heap with Reagan 2.0
The challenge with authoritarians like Bush the Lesser and Rudy is that they believe the only kind of freedom that exists is the one granted by their creator: the 'freedom' to comply. They are too stupid to see, giddy as they are about the opportunity to demonstrate it, that their version of 'freedom' is an oxymoron.
Ruuuuudi Ghouliani goodbye and good riddance.
In other words, perfect republican vice-president material.
amilius @ 42:
You have the freedom to do as you're told.
In other words, perfect republican vice-president material.
Wouldn't be surprised in the least if this was
Thindy Brady'sThe Exploiter'sRudy's plan the entire time! He could turn the next eight years into one long 9/11 exploitation ad.By then, he should be one wife #5 or 6, no?
Rudy makes Dick Cheney look like a bleeding heart Liberal - that's pretty fucking scary. Fortunately, his campaign is self-destructing. He's on shaky ground even here in Florida - the state on which he was pinning all his hopes of turning things around.
Looks like Judi Nathan will have to look for a new sugar daddy to glom onto when the candidacy and the 9/11 security biz go bust.
gene241,
I'm curious as to what people in Florida are thinking about his ads - I mean, some of this shit he's airing would never be aired in New York because people there would see the bullshit right from the start. What are people in Florida saying about his ads?
The video "Giuliani Time" is another excellent source depicting all the unconstitutional practices employed by Rudy as Mayor, from his battles with street vendors/book sellers/artists to denying funding to the Brooklyn Museum, all judged later to be unconstitutional, to his lies to the police and firefighters who eventually turned on him. Worth watching to see what a fascist he really is.
Wait a second. Wasn't Guiliani in Italy at one time and went by the name Il Duce?
I knew it. The policies and actions of Guiliani and Mussolini are very similar. In fact, they kind of look alike:
Mussolini speaks

Nice work Silent Patriot. You swiped my 1984 meme that followed from the Orangutan comment. Oh well. I guess it was pretty inescapable.
Chicago Joe @ 49:
I'm saying "BULLSHIT"! The first commercial he ran down here was all 9/11...terrorism...9/11... and the new one is about how much he did as mayor -- cut taxes, reduced welfare rolls, etc. A pack of lies. The piece de resistance is that he'll fix the nation's economy with - get this - the BIGGEST TAX CUT IN MODERN HISTORY!
i would agree with you if hillary had not disgraced him so badly in the senate race. although he does try to imitate a ceasar mentality, he is a very bad campaigner and i think hillary would once again trounce him
Jay @ 21:
Ya, thats not a big deal. However having a spokesperson for the NYPD MISTAKENLY claim he was a pedophile to the press is some pretty fucked up shit.
If you were not aware of the origin of the 1994 quote you could have assumed just as easily that it was a excerpt from Mein Kampf. Reichmarshal Rudy and Putzabee---two dangerous, scary people.
.
Never back the DRAG QUEEN of 9/11 into a corner.
.
L.A @#8 has it right... why waste space on this bitter toothache of a human being. He's not gonna win FLA or anything else.
Jay@21
Is this the same Jay who, back on August 3, was supporting the insurance companies against the Katrina victims who just wanted something for nothing?
There was a great New Yorker article about him recently, too. Apparently he can't tolerate even the tiniest bit of disagreement. Like Bush, he prizes loyalty above honesty or even competence.
One thing that um 911 taught me, is that Tutti Frutti Rudy is full of shit.
Don't forget, this is a "man" that said the the first thing he thought of after the towers were hit was "thank God dubyah is our president". He didn't think about the victims, the firefighters, the safety of the general public.....no, he was "thanking God" for herr dubyah.
We would be at war with Iran and a military dictatorship by the end of his first term if Rudy was elected. The 2010 and 2012 elections would either be rigged or canceled due to an "unspecified terrorist threat." That said if he doesn't win Florida AND New York (plus maybe California) he's done. He might be McCain's running mate though, which is even more scary than a Giuliani Presidency. Pat Buchanan said a McCain presidency would be Bush 2.0 and that's coming from Pat Buchanan! Obama/Edwards HAVE to win.
Orwell ain't got nothing to do with it, SilentPatriot. That statement is clearly indicative to myself of an authoritarian dictatorship. It's got the word "freedom" in there which probably fools those in this country who skipped history class, but only the craziest of despots and religious fanatics and, get this, CULT LEADERS make claims that the lives of those in the community or society should be run entirely by a "higher power" and that all personal decision making and control be given up.
SP, I think your joke would be better if it read, "Paging Jim Jones, Jim Jones . . . "
He's another Bush. Maybe worse.
Save a noose on the 911 justice gallows for Rudy. Do them all , just like the Lincoln conspirators, even if it takes a gallows half a mile long. Let them all swing together for our enjoyment. Thats something id pay to see , that and Bush drunk and high on cocaine ,eating pretzels and riding a bike without the training wheels.
Please, any Republican but Guiliani ! He is the only candidate that will actually make Bush look good. Guiliani is a bully that would not give a second thought to destroy anyone in his way. He can also lie with a straight face.
God forbid if this jerk becomes president.
Would Hitler be more or less forceful if he spoke with a lisp?
I bet you Michael Chertoff will be JuliAnna's running mate.
But glance away if it starts looking like their playing leap-frog.
This piece basically describes Cheney, only he's much more careful about keeping this stuff hidden.
Giuliani is Bush with a lisp. He might even be more insane, though.
Let's remember, Guiliani's hopes depend on Florida as much as Huckabee's do on Texas. If either of them fail to win either state, they're done for.
Has Guiliani stolen notes from Stalin? At least he hasn't said one infamous-quote-not-to-be-named regarding the poor....
THE HORSE RACE STARTED
and pot hole Rudy wants to stand by the FINISH LINE and claim Victory
h ah ah ah ha hah ha ha h ah ahha
Surprise. Surprise. Surprise. If Bush & Co. looted this country, think of what Giuliani & Co. could do.
RUDI GEE in '08
" Don't cross Him or He'll have ya Wacked ! "
Chicago Joe @ 23:
Nope... he'll say he's dropping out to spend more time with his family who can't stand the arrogant egomaniacal ba$tard. Great life you got goin' there, Roody!
I was delighted to read the article. As someone who got to see Rudy up close and personal (my boyfriend at the time worked in a senior spot in his administration), I was waiting for the truth to start to be seen. Think Mussolini, think thug with a law degree who likes to stand in a GOP three piece suit. That begins to show you the picture of how this guy leads and destroys his enemies, and trust me, he keeps lists of them!
McCain has been chosen by TPTB. Hence, the attacks on Rudy (good, he deserves it).
More war. More corruption. More lies.
Impeach. Indict. Imprison.
...
This article from the NYT would have impressed me a little more about 3-6 months ago, when it looked like Giuliani might actually win.
NYC Stu @ 77:
Is it any wonder that the cream of the neo-zio-cons are his "advisors?"
Another reason why Rudy "9/11" Giuliani is BAD for the country!

Living here in SoFla, knowing my Democratic primary vote is worthless (thanks Rethugs...), I'm looking forward to the BIG PARTY next Tuesday when we can all put Gouhli on a one-way Greyhound back to ground zero where the carpetbagging piece of shit belongs!
Message to Yew Norkers: Don't send us your garbage. Bury it up there where it belongs, say, in New Jersey...
The G man is a former federal prosecutor and a Republican hack.
What further information do we need?
Funny how nobody has pointed out that the NYTimes published the story only after it has become clear that Rudy will not become president.
