Wednesday's Worst Person in the Word segment on Countdown started off with Newt Gingrich taking the bronze for making the ridiculous statement that Bill & Hillary Clinton were attempting to get another 8 years in the White House, which has never been done -- except Poppy Bush & Jr. who will have amassed 12 years combined by January 2009. (not to mention Poppy's 8 years as VP) The silver went to Best Buy for having the nerve to set up a Heath Ledger display in stores pimping his movies before his autopsy had even been completed and the gold went to FOXNews' John Gibson. Gibson, in his coverage of Ledger's death on his radio show played the "I can't quit you" clip from Brokeback Mountain and said "well, he found out how to quit you, " that he was a drug addict and joked that he was depressed because he watched the Clinton, Obama debate. Now that's class...
Even Fox shouldn't put up with that sort of talk from Gibson. Enough is enough!
I guess there's a reason they're the worst people in the world, but god damn does some of this stuff surprise me.

Health Ledger wasn't even a "celebrity" in the sense that his daily exploits were fawned over and mocked. Wasn't Fox News that network that that breathlessly reported Anna Nicole's death as if it were big news for three months? Disgusting on so many levels.

How about The Huffington Post's Marc Cooper, who today cooly nots that another reason Hillary Clinton should not be the nomminee is that it will open Bill Clinton up to a lot of trashy gossip, which he was all too happy to get the ball rolling on. Cooper, an impressively rotund fellow who none the less has repeated called Micheal Moore a "fat slob" in print; recently told his alturnative readership that Clinton's win in NH was based on "too many old people, uneducated people, and unmarried women" voting. And I'm supposed to be bent out of shape over Micheal Savage?
Ariana Huffington's hatred of the Clintons seems to be the one souvenir she kept from her days of dinner parties with Newt Gingrich. Cooper, who wished Hillary Clinton "a miserable experience" when She annouced her run, was the go to guy for her campaign "coverage." Nobody on the blogosphere, by the way, called the HP on it's ruthless pimping of pre NH poles; and the cheap flip/flop Ariana did when they turned out to be wrong. Down with poles!
Huffington has a lot of nerve getting high and mighty about the Clinton's ethics. When it comes to fighting dirty, She and her "fat lieutenant" Marc Cooper are no slouches.
I'm really ashamed of Gibson. He came from my home town (Sacramento, CA) and I used to enjoy him on the local news. Now I see that he's just another in a long list of right-wing hatemongers, and perhaps one of the worst. May he get what he so richly deserves in the end, and may his end and demise come sooner rather than later.
Every time Gibby makes douchebag remarks like these, i can only surmise that someone should have given his parents something better to do on the night they conceived him. failing that, Gibson is an issue which his father should have shot into a sock or his mother should have swallowed.

I've been noticing more and more nastiness coming from the rabid right as of late. I suppose it's from watching their cesspool of a political party swirling down into the sewers from which it erupted.
They are now like these sodden pigs in a bar. Drunk and high on power for 7 years. Except the lights have come on, it's last call, and the party is over. Yet none of them have any money or credit. i know KO is cool, but since MSNBC is manufacturing consent with the power rankings that put Guiliani above Paul even though Paul has more votes, and that casts Edwards as a loser already...I think KO should bail from MSNBC or his credibilty will begin to shrink.

Best Buy: I believe that in 2005, 100% of their political donations went to republicans. Think about going someplace else the next time you're shopping. It might be a little more expensive, but why help fund the republican party? Take Costco, for example: I believe 100% of their donations went to Democrats.

HuffPo is a mere shadow of its former self. The rapidity of its decline into a corporate media whorehouse designed to attract the greatest number of lowest-common denominator eyeballs is astounding. The tabloid style photos (check out the one of Michelle Obama over there today. Hundreds of people have complained about it and it's still there.), the misleading headlines, the focus on the trivial, the desire to create news rather than report on it -- it's astounding. Her newest idea that we should shun polling is so hypocritical and transparent as to be shocking.

Dan Abrams had good coverage of this. He and his fellow talking heads were actually shocked and sincerely offended. He also made mention that the Phelps family plans to attend the funeral.

I believe if the phony American (listen to him change accent when he is in Australia) Murdoch has any balls, he should sack Gibson.

Don't hold me to this, but I could swear I just heard someone on the TV in the next room say something about Gibson, a 2 week suspension, and the Heath Ledger remarks. Google turns up nothing right now to confirm this, however.
I guess "people" like John Gibson are just wired differently than I am. I don't understand this kind of entertainment. A talented young actor has died. You don't have to weep or send flowers...but at least show him and his grieving family some respect. Just keep quiet. That's all you have to do.

The concept of disempowering the poles is alright with me, but Huffington might try it

The mix of Show biz and news doesn't need to be toxic, I thought it was weird to read
movie star blurbs telling me to read Naomi Klein, but that's harmless enough if it's
worth reading. At some point, as you suggest, it becomes as stupid as the right
wing Tabloid mantality. Salon, on the other hand, is really doing fine work. Some of there
writers are clearly for Obama, but they balance it out, and Joan Walsh is smart and
even handed.
Since it's somewhat silly early years, Salon has gone in the right direction while
the HP flys south.
