Open Thread: UPDATE Servers down
UPDATE: We're having some technical problems right now so we haven't been able to post anything on Sunday so far. The techies are working on it and it'll be fixed soon....
(thanx to regular C&L commenter Karen for the image)
Oh noes! It's Mitt-ens the Pander Bear, your agent of change! (If that's what you want).
Open thread below, and of course the cool kids are also visiting the bonus South Carolina Primary Open Thread running at the same time...

Still think it's safe & should be mandatory Nicole?
Here's what I wrote a year ago on this blog -
I'm baffled as to why my favorite blog is advocating this insanity as a "no-brainer". I really hope Nicole looks at the deeper issues here and has a change of heart.

Well Nicole, have you?
Is Mitt an actual human being or a plastic automaton? Seriously, the guy's a robot.
i'm sad to be admitting. go ron paul stick it up the G.O.P. fannies.
Thanks to C&L for inventing this time machine. It is now 10:45 AM PT Sunday.
Since this is an open thread, I would like to offer my opinion that IRAQ is the top issue today, NOT the economy, and that we should not let the MILITARY-INDUSTRIAL-MEDIA COMPLEX tell us otherwise.
Yes we are greedy and we care a lot about the dollar, but at this point we are about to lose our country and our souls to this war. This EVERY American knows, even if it’s in their subconscious. Besides, when the politicians talk of bringing thje troops home, the applause is deafening, as opposed to the real but much milder enthusiasm over economic issues.
Michael Moore pointed out the real reason Obama has the support he does is that he SHOWED leadership and bravely spoke up against the war. I agree. That vote is overwhelmingly why I cannot support Hillary. She IS the status-quo, and she has PROVEN it when it mattered. She will remain a fine senator.
Only Obama can move the nation forward beyond Iraq. Even if he doesn’t get us out immediately (he won’t), the symbolic power of being led by someone who was against the war will be incalculable. And when you add the symbolism of post-race politics, that is change, and let’s admit it: Symbols are a huge aspect of leadership.
I have many issues with Obama, McClurkin and such, but still, I could feel the potential in him for the country… Please, let’s all be careful and stay vigilant about Iraq. “They” are trying to bury it. Do not let them, hold them accountable, and be very suspicious of whom burying Iraq benefits…

Is there a problem with Crooks and Liars?
In the past couple of days I've clicked on my bookmark for the site and arrived at a page to install WordPress. That aint right. Each time I waited for a while and was later able to get to the site. But now, this Open Thread from last night at 8:30pm has only 5 comments, so I assume that others have not been able to reach the site also.
Is everything OK, John?
Jon Stewart..."How bad do the Democrats have to be to pre-f*uckup the economy?" http://onegoodmove.org/1gm/1gmarchive/2008/01/its_the_economy_2.html
OK, C&L, you've solved time travel into the past.
Now let's see you do it for the future.
(I posted several times on this thread yesterday, Saturday, and here it is Sunday and I'm posting before the posts I made Saturday.....Weird??)
I think S.Carolina made it perfectly fucking clear to the DNC. Don't piss down our backs and tell us Hillary is "one of us". She's a corporate lawyer in a pant suit who was a phone call from divorcing Bill.
Its Obama and Edwards or nothing. Got it?

Yeah we lost a lot of comments here from last night. Hopefully we can fix it. If not... It's on to the Future... Go Democrats.

Are we trying to go back in time so that Obama won't have won yet? ;)
I think it's naive to think Obama can survive what's coming from the Right. There are many who think November is a slam dunk as in '04. These people are not going to give up power. Get ready to duck and possibly even cover. I swear-anything and everything is on the table with these lowlifes.
Happy Sunday Morning! See the Feb 5 polls for SUPER TUESDAY below. I hope Barack enjoyed S. Carolina, because he will probably only win two to four states on Feb. 5th.

This is one post that should have been left in the trash. The article is BS first headline has the HPV vaccine was prime suspect in deaths of 2 women. Then in the body the vaccine was "linked" to the deaths. And then dissolved into a 1:750,000 correlation as it was noted no causal link could be found.
Judicial Watch BS from the "government is evil" crowd.
squiggs - I think you owe an apology for this shallow, brain-dead comment.
The son of our "friend", Gadhafi, is behind terrorist attacks in Iraq. The FDA lies about cloning. Another Kennedy joins the Obama camp.
See what happens when you make Gizmo look like Mitt?
If Obama can survive an attack by the clintons, I imagine he can stand up to anyone or anything.

Do you think it should be mandatory?? How would that be any different than force-feeding drugs to mental patients? It's for their own good, right? Regardless of how you feel about vaccines, the controversy over mercury content, etc... the idea that they should be mandatory is creepy to say the least. The interesting thing about this particular vaccine is that you can be labeled a misogynist if you don't absolutely love it. You just want young women to get cervical cancer!
Even though he's very hard to like - I'm rooting hard for McCain....
I do this because imagine a general election with McCain and Obama. First off McCain is a horrible speaker and Obama would outshine him in every debate. Second off Obama would have it easy attacking Mccain on the "100 years in Iraq" pledge. It would just be like Mike Tyson in his prime vs a six year old.
Should Hillary get the nomination though we should just hand the Presidency to McCain or Romney
Well, now, PO'd Pat, if it were cricket, I might agree. But... football? Meh.
Then again, I'm in NZ, where 999 is the number of the beast Down Under.
budda @ 36:
Did you read Frank Rich's article in the NYT today? He tells you what he thinks would happen if the final candidates are Hillary and McCain. It isn't pretty.
DISCO INFERNO @ 22:
A nice bit of hopelessness from a Hillary supporter. When JFK said we could go to the moon was that false hope? When MLK gave his dream speech was that false hope? When Obama entered the campaign down everywhere was that false hope? Was it a fairytale that won Iowa? That closed the wide gap in NH? That won the most delegates in NV? That blew away the Clinton machine in SC? We are witnessing hope becoming reality in Obama's campaign. For you to make a post of hopelessness really saddens me because you are psychologically in a frame of thinking that says we can't - so let's just throw it to the slimy Mark Penn / Clinton bunch.
What you don't understand though is that this Obama message is sweeping the country. He was down big in SC up until last month - until they saw how filthy the Clinton family is and what a light in the darkness Obama is. He is a lily among thorns. We democrats see through the hateful and divisive politics of the Clinton family. We are changing everything.
With hard work we will come to equalize and show the nation just how serious we are.
Obama 2008!
And to his supporters - let's how them "yes we can."
The "Most Viewed" List on Google Video never ceased to amaze me lately. People must be waking up to what is really going on in this world. I wish the view counters Google used to use to show total views were still in use. The numbers must be astonishing.

Hey, if the Republicans can't campaign on any successes over the last decade at least they can promise more death and destruction at our expense.
I hope Rudy does a lot better down here in Florida than is expected. If McCain wins Florida I think he about locks up the nomination. Rudy or Mittens would be easier for Obama or Hillary or Edwards to take on. Trouble with McCain is he is the elderly candidate so whomever might debate him can't go too far. They must show respect for his age, his time as a POW, and let's face it, he would most likely get the sympathy vote from other elderly people.
pissed off patricia @ 38:
I am running late for something, so I couldn't read it all, but from what I read he is right on. Democrats need to make a change and get rid of the status quo in the party. These DLC democrats are nothing put pre Reagan republicans. So it is telling that establishment backs Hillary. But the people in the party fighting for hope and change their whole lives are supporting Obama. To see Ted Kennedy support Obama says it all. He is this generations JFK.
Ah! C&L is down! Anyone know a good methadone clinic open on Sundays?
For anyone who might have missed it today. Here's Caroline Kennedy's endorsement of Obama today.

It's Christmas in January!
Multiple states are discussing issuing arrest warrants for the President of the United States. This has been well thought out, is connected with well grounded legal theory, and is consistent with the duty of Americans to defend the US Constitution from domestic enemies. Congressional inaction on impeachment does not oblige We the People to remain silent or do nothing about alleged war crimes and the President's alleged criminal conduct.
Congress and the State leadership have failed to fully assert their oath to defend the US Constitution from domestic enemies. We the People may open discussions of issuing lawful arrest warrants not just against the President, but also those allegedly who have refused to fully assert their oath: Members of Congress, State representatives, and attorneys across the nation.
Power Retained By We the People: Vermont, Mass, and Kentucky discussing arrest warrants for President, consistent with the 10th Amendment. GMD The Constitution does not narrowly prohibit only Congress to take legal action. The Constitution only delegates the impeachment power of investigation/removal to the House and Senate. Rather, the power to arrest a sitting President is one that is retained by We the People, via the 10th Amendment.
Legal Scholar Discussion of Arresting A Sitting President: This approach of issuing arrest warrants and prosecuting a sitting President outside Congress, outside impeachment has been well discussed by legal scholars. [ Jonathan Turley, “From Pillar to Post”: The Prosecution of American Presidents, 37 American Criminal Law Review 1049, 1064-66 (2000). ] There is no legal bar for these arrest warrants to issue. Bush's name may be soon added to this database.
Legal Duty of Attorneys Generals: However, if a prosecutor refuses to consider this approach as a method to enforce the Constitution; or refuses to defend this Supreme Law from these alleged domestic enemies, they could be found complicit with alleged war crimes, in defiance of their attorney oath. Inaction on these types of alleged war crimes was the basis at Nuremberg to issue indictments against prosecutors, attorneys, and lawyers at the Justice Trial for their refusal to fully enforce Geneva against the Nazis. These issues must be examined by We the People in the Judicial system; they cannot be swept under the rug. Inaction could be a basis for state disciplinary boards to conduct investigations into prosecutors and disbar them for malfeasance in re alleged domestic enemies of the Supreme Law.
Untested: If you hear, "This is unprecedented" or "not allowed," respond with, "No, it is untested." It's time to use this approach. The Congress and State legislatures have impermissibly permitted these alleged war crimes to go ignored too long.
Sovereignty: It is time for We the People through the power of arrest and the grand jury process to force this President to account for the alleged wart crimes, breaches of the peace, and the defiance of his oath of office. If We the People do not take action to investigate these alleged war crimes, other nations -- under the principle of reciprocity and retaliation of Geneva -- make use any and all abuses this President is alleged to have committed against Americans. If we fail to assert the rule of law, we give up sovereignty: The power to self-govern. Refusing to prosecute a sitting President for alleged war crimes is, by definition, complicity with tyranny.
Please safeguard any evidence you may have that Members of Congress, state legislators, or other have attempted to block enforcement of these arrest warrants, or have made threats against anyone, or made promises to any one to dissuade action in enforcing the laws of war against the President.
Any effort to interfere with the lawful efforts to arrest the President or interrupt the proceedings could be adjudicated as alleged obstruction of justice. This may be adjudicated as a subsequent offense under the laws of war. The maximum penalty imposed by a war crimes tribunal includes the death penalty.

I've been watching McCain and his BFF, Liberman speaking live at a town hall meeting here in Fla (on C-span). They are almost lost among a sea of gray haired people. I think McCain will eventually lose his self-control as this goes on. He is known to have a hot temper plus the strain of campaigning might take a hell of a toll on him. We watched one president get old and basically lose it in office. This isn't the time to let that happen again.

mandatory in Virginia. Even Perry's
initial executive order gave parents the ability to opt out. And in Virgina the legislation was opt-in.
Mandatory. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means. When you can choose to not do something then it's not
compulsory or, permitting no option; not to be disregarded or modified. That's what mandatory means.
And let's not forget there was also how the government passed the National Childhood Vaccination Injury act so drug manufactures can't be
held liable. More FUD since the act specifically lists what vaccines
the act covered: diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio, measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, Haemophilus influenzae type b and varicella.
It's not a blanket covering any and all vaccines. Such an act does not exist.
As I said last night, you may think it's mandatory but it is not.

No, I know about the religious objection form. But they told me up front that I had to have the vaccines. I had to say "show me the law", after which time they spent 15 minutes or so digging it out of a file cabinet, then they told me I could opt out of all but one: the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella.) They said I had to have this one no matter what, but sure enough, on the last page of that packet was the religious objection form. I signed it because the hype about mercury in the vaccines was in the news at the time, but if I hadn't already known about that, they would have had me believing that I had to get the shot. And I'm sure a lot of other people think the same thing. "Oh, I can't register for classes unless I take the shot!" It's just not true. And thank you for your condescending vocabulary lesson, but the dictionary tells me that mandatory and compulsory are synonymns.
(Posting again since first time formatting got messed up and typos.)

Thing Fish, why did you post the same shit again AFTER I responded to you?
I never said it was mandatory. The first person to post on this suggested that Nicole Belle thinks it should be mandatory. I don't know what her position is, because I didn't read that article. I know it's not mandatory, and I don't think it should be. For the record, however, you're the one not using the word according to its dictionary meaning.

Well thank you for acknowledging that the vaccines are not mandatory (even though you started off complaining they were). Yes mandatory and compulsory are synonyms. That's what I said.
And I'll repeat it since you apparently missed my point the first time. In all cases parents can opt not to have the vaccine administered. Therefore not mandatory.
So you now you agree the vaccine is not mandatory. Then pray tell what is your problem with the HPV vaccine?
Thing Fish @ 65:

Wrong. I never said it was mandatory. I said it SHOULD NOT BE mandatory. The person who started this suggested that some people think it should be MADE mandatory, which I'm against. I have been consistent all along. You, however, have changed your definition of mandatory. First you said, "When you can choose to not do something then it’s not compulsory or, permitting no option; not to be disregarded or modified. That’s what mandatory means." ...Now all of a sudden you agree with the dictionary meaning. I never thought it was mandatory, and I don't think it should be. What is so hard to understand about that?

The UPside is the C&L addicts/ visitors grow in numbers. The downside: more MONEY os needed to run this. So, how abt kicking some $$$ to C&L ?? Might be prudent to do it once the systems are back to normal, so they get ALL what was contributed.
Otherwise we all better slow down (esp. w/b***t messages), and give C&L room to fix it. Only 9 days left to Feb 5th, the Super Tuesday w/22 states. Give John A. and the crew a chance to fix it.

Preacher Boob @ 70:
That's what I was wondering. Am I one of the "trolls" for responding to a post about vaccines, and continuing to post because someone misquoted me? Am I lumped in with the conspiracy theory crowd because I wanted to do more research before getting vaccines? I know that posts mean bandwidth, and the replies between me and Thing Fish started taking up a lot of room, but I was misquoted and words were put in my mouth which I didn't say, and I wanted to correct them. So am I the troll?
