A daily visit to Informed Comment should be required reading for everyone who wants to know what is really happening in Iraq

So we murdered another 13 innocent Iraqi citizens Tuesday. Yeah yeah, I know, people die in war. Every American owes the people of Iraq their deepest apology for this shit storm we've created.

The basic philosophy of fascist organizations like the world bank is privatization. There is an argument I have with People that believe that privatization is the answer honestly think that it will be the best for all the people. I say they know exactly who will win and who will lose and in no way think privatization will benefit anyone but the already well off.

I nearly spit my coffee on my screen when I read the last line of the Danger Room post about the intelligence analysts saying they were on to Iranian blogs 'about 6 months before anyone else' what a crock.

The reason the cables have been cut is those same bloggers, all over the middle east, are giving the picture from their own point of view, which nearly always is NOWHERE NEAR what our fearless leaders would like us to believe. So now they have no voice, and our own government can push their half truths and outright lies with impunity, or so they think.

From Juan Cole of Informed Comment:

Al-Hayat reports in Arabic that in the negotiations over a status of forces agreement between Iraq and the US, the Iraqis are demanding a guarantee that the US will never attack a neighbor of Iraq from Iraqi soil. (I don't think that was what Cheney was going for).

Typical of this administration's blunders..

the world bank and the IMF are failed organizations, period. their's is a record of pure failure. the "developing" countries that strictly adhere to their neoliberal policies do not "develop" but instead become economically colonized by multinationals.

neoliberalism functions as economic neocolonialism, as it attempts to tie the hands of leaders of countries, demanding certain—corporate-friendly/people unfriendly—policies be enacted. this is facilitated through loans and financial assistance for developing countries, used as blackmail to feed corporate greed. neoliberalism is the late 20th–early 21st century strategy for core countries’ domination and exploitation of peripheral countries, for corporate financial gain. Which, must be noted, core countries’ policies, domestic and foreign, are dictated, by and large, by corporate demands.

and the tool for economic domination, for the past several decades, has been the IMF and the World Bank, as they effectively control domestic policy in sovereign states, even supposed democratic nations. the goal of these two institutions, since the 1980’s, has not been the amelioration of global instability, but the single-minded goal of driving up corporate profits. the effects of such policies on the citizens, impacted by the economic restructuring, are rarely considered, if at all.

and the DLC and major dem strategists (carville, devince, shrum, greenberg, etc.) not only preach this complete BS, they work in other countries to ensure that democracy is skewed to favor the rich, the few and the multinationals...

why do so many countries hate us? well, look to the economic neocolonialism of the IMF/WB... led by the US

I thought the Romney mention on this piece warranted showing this little gem:

and for a great example of this check out Cochabamba, Bolivia--and the Cochabamba Water War.

the IMF blackmailed Bolivia into signing the water of one of Bolivia's largest cities by threatening to withhold $600 million in debt relief if Bolivia did not sign over the right to ALL water in Cochabamba to a foreign multinational corporation (partially owned by bechtel). and, of course, the bolivian president at that time was a compromised, corporate lackey, neoliberal, nicknamed 'Goni', who was more than happy to sign over his national resources for the profit of the already rich.

the result:
-the people ended up having to pay btwn 25-30% of their monthly income on water alone
-water access plummeted, as people only had 2-3 hours of water access/day
-international mining companies, mega-agri business and other industries were given preferential treatment, human consumption was not given top billing
-the water law gave the multinational corporation rights to ALL water in cochabamba, including groundwater AND COLLECTED RAIN WATER.

It's not just the Republican candidates who are gung-ho about going to war with both Iraq and Iran.
