Our Future: Mythbusting Canadian Health Care: — Part 1
Good article and truthful. Hope Americans read it and learn instead of listening to political BS like the "universal healthcare" spin being fed to the MSM by Clinton. Universal insurance is NOT universal healthcare anymore than universal car insurance is free coverage for your car.
ConcernedCanuck @ 2:
We all realize that you hate Hillary Clinton with a white hot passion but stop trying to link Clinton to the insurance companies long term effort to bash any single payer health system. Singling her out is intellectually dishonest when you know there is hardly any difference between her plan and Obama's plan.
WoW!
There are a group of Vietnam veterans that are swift boatng McCAIN! Lots to read and veiw!

Make a note of the states Huckabee just won and do NOT....I repeat, do NOT go there!
Here's the skivvy from "StoptheACLU.com":
"Crossposted at Church and State
Well, I called it. Huckabee won 4 of 5 southern states. Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, and Tennessee. And picked up West Virginia too. So, make it 5 of 6. And NO ONE saw it coming." (Except, according to The Huckster, "God".)
Got that? Do NOT go to Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Tennessee or West Virginia. You may not come out alive. Or you may come out converted!!! Jesus!
RayC @ 3:
I was pointing out the obvious. Has nothing to do with Hillary or hating her. Has everything to do with pointing out the lie that is her policy promise. If Obama used the same spin on his healthcare plan, calling it universal healthcare, I would point out the same thing Ray. I've stated it before, I would never trade you healthcare for all the military in the world. I feel for you people, and despise politicians that lie about these quick fixes to your system. Only way to fix your system is if some politician has the gonads to tackle the insurance industy. So far, none have.
The manner in which Bush Co has so easily and effortlessly ripped this country off the past 7 years and consolidated this economic power and all the assets into the top 1% (75% of which are Republicans) is astounding.
Thats now $20 Trillion into the pockets of the Good Ol' Boys Party since Reagan, Bush Sr, and Bush Jr.
And guess who controls and owns majority say in everything from the banks to retail now?
Admitting you have no religion is not politically correct…
Wrong. Just more manufactured outrage on the left, like the "War On Christmas" is on the right. On the other hand, denigrating religious people is not politically correct, and has been particularly hazardous to the Democratic Party, as borne out by credible public opinion polls.

It is my contention that any single payer plan is dead in the water with the current campaign financing laws however, if as part of Clinton's or Obama's plans a provision for anyone to buy into medicare and a universal catastrophic coverage the influence of insurance companies would be greatly reduced. Maybe even to the point that a single payer or medicare for all would be possible.
ConcernedCanuck @ 6:
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't true Universal Healthcare where said care is fully paid for by the gov't through tax revenue? It isn't what our political hacks conveniently call universal healthcare where we still have to pay premiums.
Think "baby steps", people.
Thanks for cablegate!
I sent a tip to John A this past Monday the 4th (here it is):
"I didn't notice with all the super bowl and super Tuesday hoopla going on, so I figured you may not have either. Apparently several of the submarine fiber Internet cables were severed in the Middle East/Asia. When just two failed at the same point off Egypt, it was thought that it was accidental, but then a week later several more cables were cut in the Middle East and Asia affecting .. SeaMeWe-4 (South East Asia-Middle East-Western Europe-4) near Penang, Malaysia, the FLAG Europe-Asia near Alexandria, FLAG near the Dubai coast, FALCON near Bandar Abbas in Iran and SeaMeWe-4, also near Alexandria. Evidence that no ships were near the cables cut off Eqypt has also emerged. I can find no reference to it in the US media, but ABC in Australia has this story. There is also this and this from Dubai.
Google search on: Internet blackout submarine cables results in no MSM coverage, despite large business and call center interruptions (among many others). While bandwidth to Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain, Pakistan and India has been severely limited, Iran's main servers are experiencing 100% loss in packets.
It seems that it will be at least a week, February 12 at the soonest, to repair the cables off Alexandria, it will be up to two weeks before any of the other cables may be repaired.
I believe this merits a post on C&L.
In unrelated news, US anti-missile ship the USS San Jacinto, an AEGIS cruiser in the Ticonderoga Class to dock in Haifa Monday according to the Jerusalem Post."
That was Monday. After reading quite a bit, I now come up with more than 5... more like 8 which includes a previous unreported one January 23:one off of Marseille, France; two off of Alexandria, Egypt; one off of Dubai, in the Persian Gulf; one off of Bandar Abbas, Iran in the Persian Gulf; one between Qatar and the UAE, in the Persian Gulf; one in the Suez, Egypt; one near Penang, Malaysia and one initially unreported cable cut on 23 January 2008 unclear where, but seems to be in the Persian Gulf.
I have a bunch more links if anyone is interested, let me know.
ConcernedCanuck, OT, but I watched Escape to Canada the other night. Mostly about gay marriage & decriminalization of marijuana, but also had American military freedom seekers [aka, deserters].
Just goes to show what a humane and rational country looks like.
Obamamaniacs, just what is his position on those issues, as well as reproductive rights, because they sure aren't on his website.

No matter what they offer the end result is still going to be to further burden America’s future productivity and the sweat labor of its children to protect their excess gains and wealth.
Ain't Capitalism grand?
Super Tuesday’s alternative storyline
I do not take comfort in the dem turnout in the primaries. All the republicans need is a battle in November between their candidate (which could be anyone, no matter how lame) and the other contender. They make it a choice of either-or, make it seem like the difference is minimal and "all a wash", use well-directed slogans and ads, rig some votes, close the gap and then get the existing govt legal system to hand them the victory.
RayC @ 9:
Has universal auto insurance reduced insurance costs for anyone? Mine go up every year, and I'm in Canada. Has it stopped or reduced insurance companies? Not here. Phone around for a quote on your car or home, and you quickly find all companies are almost the same price, so I don't see how these schemes will work for you down there. It levels the playing field so that insurance companies ALL get money from someone.
This must be Bushes "tax cuts will create new jobs" plan he was pitching in 01 now starting to kick in.
"San Diego-based YouWalkAway.com, which for a fee of $1,000 purports to guide clients through the process of ditching their mortgages. It launched in early January, and says it has already signed up 180 clients."
Dr. Acula @ 10:
Universal healthcare here means no insurance industry premiums. What they want to do there is force everyone to have coverage, and the insurance industry is still involved. I don't see why it is necessary to have to go through and insurance company for your health. It seems ludicrous.
Microsoft loves the little guy, don'tcha know.

Excellent article about Canadian vs. US health care. That the provinces are actually the insurer is, perhaps, the most important point.
I much prefer the idea of the states being the main provider of health insurance, for mostly the same reasons that the article points out. The chain of responsibility is much easier for the citizens to control at the state level. And it is simply a more workable system. There is room for the federal government to be involved: in providing transferability and/or a last resort safety net.
The only reason that my House rep listens to me is because he drove my girlfriend to school when she was a kid. But the votes that i can personally rally for or against my state rep actually carry some weight.
ConcernedCanuck @ 17:
Never underestimate the ability of the system to figure out new ways to loot us of our hard earned money.
So we are the ones that ultimately go broke keeping the ultra-rich pampered with all their Ponzi Unit schemes.
ConcernedCanuck @ 15:
That's a straw-man argument. Auto insurance is mandatory with car registration where I live and there is no government alternative that insures those who cannot afford it. I campaigned hard for no fault insurance and against mandatory liability auto insurance. Insurance companies need badly to be more regulated. That has nothing to do with universal health insurance.
crushburger higganbotham @ 18:
I predict there is going to be a time-trend up and coming when people realize they are going to have to abandon their personal computers.
RayC @ 21:
While we are at it we need to begin regulating the Hospitals more heavily.
With the exception of a small handful of Blue Ribbon Units, (no poor folk need apply) most hospitals have staffs that may as well be working in a Jiffy Lube.
Just getting out of the hospital without getting some super bug these days is difficult. If the Hospital food doesn't kill you first.

And start working with their hands and getting back to basics, as one commenter on that site mentioned? Do you mean this is a deep societal issue, or just that we need to circumvent spying. If the latter, why not use deep encryption devices at home...work is a lost cause anyway, if you work for a large company.
L.A. Confidential @ 23:
Hospitals already are very heavily regulated and it is a main contributor to rising healthcare costs. Hospitals need to operate more efficiently but another huge pile of regulations isn't going to make that happen, quite the opposite in fact.
Breking news! Romney dropping out?
Speaking of healthcare......this just in....
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. will open its first in-store medical clinics under its own brand name after leasing space in dozens of stores to outside companies that operate the quick-service health stops.
The world’s largest retailer said Thursday it will open “The Clinic at Wal-Mart” as a joint venture with local hospital systems in Atlanta, Dallas and Little Rock, Ark., starting in April.

Good thing the Democratic Party, which is overwhelmingly composed of religious people, never does that.

Thanks for linking Sara Robinson's piece. It's thorough and fantastic, on an important subject our press doesn't like to cover.
RayC @ 22:
You just defeated your own argument in your second sentence though Ray. "Auto insurance is mandatory....." And so will your health insurance according to some, even to the point of garnishing your wages. The rest of your argument is arguing with me, but agreeing at the same time. Insurance, is insurance Ray. Matters not if it is auto, life or health. It's insurance, ran by the insurance industry. So, no, I am not making a strawman argument here.
L.A. Confidential @ 23:
Not as long as there are open standard (IEEE Posix Standard) you'll have xubuntu, Linux, Red Hat or compile your own OS.
ConcernedCanuck @ 36:
i have to agree. The model for health insurance they are proposing is very similar to the mandatory auto and home owner's insurance, but worse. With the former two you do have a choice: rent a home or don't drive. With health care, what is the choice? Death? If the income thresholds are anything like current DSS programs, what is the choice? Have your wage garnished and don't eat?
It is obvious that any compromise that allows health insurers at the table guarantees a profit driven system.
Universal, tax paid health care without a middleman is really the only way. I believe a minimum of care is a right.
I've been following the comments on single payer health care with interest. The comparisons with auto insurance don't make much sense to me. Where I come from auto insurance is mandatory. If you don't have it and can't afford it you can't legally drive. If you make health insurance mandatory for people who can't afford it now mean they can't legally live?
Rusty Shackleford @ 32:
True in regards to the party's stated platform, however the perceptions of the public are what they are, and the fact a "journalist" like Max Blumenthal attracts an audience only confirms the results of the Pew study.
Don't sign the petition. I did and started to receive emails from them. It as if they took my interest in their petition as interest in them as a group. Opting out is a also a pain in the ass. You have to dig through their website to find where it is, since there is no link in the email they send you. Let me be clear, they don't tell you that when you sign, you will begin to receive emails from them.
If you don't believe me, I can forward the email that was sent to me a couple of days ago to this site.
By the way, unlike completely socialized medicine, a single-payer system only takes the profit out of the insurance industry, but actual providers of health care will allowed to remain private and for-profit. Keep in mind it's free competition, coupled with entrepreneurs and corporations spurred on by the promise of a return on their investment, which has made our country (and health care system) so great. Nothing personal against Canada, but, for example, there are good reasons why Neil Young went to NYC to get his aneurysm fixed.
peaceful easy feeling @ 40:
No it doesn't, but thanks for playing.
Of course some American go up to Canada for unique treatments as well. Health outcomes from standard treatments are virtually the same. The provincial health systems send lots of people south or to other provinces when the system gets overloaded. This is more a reflection of timely availability then quality.
Interesting how the "Church of Reality" in adopting the UN Charter on Rights completely leaves out GLBT people in their LONG list of protected minorities. They do toss them a bone under "sexuality by stating that people have a right to "not be persecuted" for their sexuality. Aren't they kind? They also have a hetero only marriage policy.
It sounds to me like when it comes to GLBT people, the "Church of Reality" isn't much more based in reality than the Southern Baptist church I grew up in.
I'm sure the Southern Baptist Church Zeke grew up in and the Church of Reality are exactly the same. BWA HAHAHA. He's apparently so used to hearing religions attack homosexuals that by
notmentioning it, the Church of Reality is wrong.Comments are closed on this entry
