Democracy Now! Speaks With Primary Winner Donna Edwards

Democracy Now!'s Amy Goodman speaks to the winner of a hotly contested and closely watched primary challenge for Maryland's 4th District, Blue America candidate Donna Edwards. And just as important as having a solid, progressive Democrat running, Edwards' win is a shot across the bow to other Bush Dog Democrats that they should not consider their seats safe because they're in a blue district.

And I believe that those voices needed to be heard in the Congress by somebody who’s a standup Democrat who represents this congressional district. I think the voters got that message. And, you know, voters have an awful lot of things going on in their minds [inaudible]. We have a troubled economy. We’re facing record foreclosures in our congressional district, just like around the country. And we want somebody who really speaks for real change and who will make a difference in the lives of working people. And those messages came through yesterday.

The full interview and transcripts available at Democracy Now! NOW on PBS focused on the Edwards/Wynn race earlier with their Democrats Divided episode, also available online.

Al Wynn is gone. Now, if we could just unseat all the other corporatists shills, DINO's, and collaborators, starting with Steny Hoyer, Rahm Emanual, Nancy Pelosi....

Go Donna!

I'm so glad that "WynnBag" has been voted out. You are just across the border from my district but I was pulling for you anyway!!

Whoohoo! Bluedogs take heed.

Now now now, remember, we're just bloggers out here, we really don't make any difference or have any influence in the Beltway. We should just leave the politics to the political aristocracy...

...NOT!

♥I know this is way OT ... But this needs some attention.

Today we heard the house spend a whole day going on and on about Steroid use in Baseball.
They were very intense .... But meanwhile bush says:

"If Republicans and Democrats in the Senate can come together on a good piece of legislation, there's no reason why Republicans and Democrats in the House cannot pass the Senate bill immediately," Bush said in an Oval Office statement.

Senators passed the bill Tuesday by a vote of 68-29. It includes a controversial provision that would provide retroactive immunity to any telecommunications companies that helped the intelligence community eavesdrop on suspected terrorists.

Want to know what wrong with this government? And I'm not talking about Dem vs. Rep
The whole system is screwed, they waste time on bullshit while our Liberties and Rights are whittled away by bush and his band of Nazi's.

I got a letter in the mail from the RNC asking me for $25 membership fees to "defend against vicious attacks and outright distortions...get our message past the liberal media filter...fight the over $100 million raised by Hillary Clinton ...$500 million from Big Labor...fight Move-On and Hollywood elites...close the fund-raising gap...retain the White House". It ended up in the garbage after perusal.

By "Hollywood elites", are they talking about Arnold, Chuck Norris, and whoever that old guy is who endorsed McCain?

If it came with a postage-paid envelope, you can always tape it to a cinder block and mail it back - by law, they have to pay for it!

Nice, Donna Edwards looks like the real deal, not that fake-repuke-lite-ass Wynne.

Now, get those creeps like Pelosi and Reid and the other lap-dog spineless coWards out of office as well, and we might be able to get the country that the Repukes ruined back on the tracks.

I called my Bush-dog Senator's office today and asked the polite, naive women at the other end if she heard of Donna Edwards. She said yes. I then asked if she knew why Edwards won. She ventured this pearl of wisdom, "because she got more votes?".
I explained to her that Democrats who are paying attention are getting tired of their representatives voting with Bush time and time again and her boss man might consider listening to his constituents, just for the novelty of it.

Almost every blue candidate is a two-vote switch to our side on a variety of issues.

One less vote on the blue-dog, DINO, thug side.

One more for reality.

And she kicked Al's ass, Steny. So hard, I bet you're feeling some of the sting. Gotta have more people like Edwards.

Rovian tactic of falsely accusing the Democrats of what the Rethuglicans are guilty of. Believe what we tell you, not your own eyes. I can't wait to see these sorry bastards go down hard in November.

I am not familiar with Al Wynn, is he going to run as an independent and garner 100% of the Republican votes and 25% of the Democratic votes and use his new power to auction off his vote to who will ever give him the best committee seat?
I believe its called the Joe Lieberman plan.

I did CNN say if race was a factor in this election? :)

This is the best way to change Washington. Keep up the good work.

C&L AND ALL IT READERS AND SUPPORTERS SHOULD BE PROUD

THIS IS A MAJOR VICTORY FOR THE RATIONAL REVOLUTION

Wouldn't it be nice. Big Business won't let that happen in our lifetime though.

Why don't democrats show they have a spine and vote the Bush Blue Dogs out. Just talking about it, isn't getting it done.

With the exception of Ron Paul, every Republican and the blue dog Dems should be retired.

Yes, Pelosi. Yes, Reid. Yes, Conyers. Etc., etc..

...

WOOHOOO!!!!

This is awesome news!

Donna is great, and will be a truly fine Congresswoman! Imagine, representing your constituents!

While it is great to celebrate a new addition to the 'progressives' in congress, it would be well not to forget someone who has been fighting the good fight for all of his career. Dennis Kucinich! He has had zero support from the Pelosicrats (who supported Wynn because "... supporting encumbents is what we do") any probable actual undermining by tacit support for his opponent! Just one more shameful episode in the backstabbing, go-along-to-get-along dem leadership who are good at making promises to the left and performing like trained seals for the right.

Excellent! Donna Edwards wins despite Nancy Pelosi doing her best to re-elect Wynn.

Hmm. Along with postage paid Dem fund-raising letters, I have some pieces of heavy junk lying around I would like to get rid of...

amy goodman for president

listen to her interview with bill clinton in 2004...omg it makes me high!

This is cool. I am glad to see that her primary opponent had the class, good manners and grace to endorse her for the fall election. That is what Democratic party unity is all about. To win she will need money from now until the fall.

Let’s hope the top of the ticket has the same grace and interest in unity when the nomination process is over.

Another neat result of this election, is Thurmond and Wallace are rolling in their graves, and Trent Lott is pissing in his socks.

HELP! from NORTH CAROLINA! Okay, this is Congress, and I want to talk about the Senate. These efforts need to be made across the board. Look at us: how the dickens do you get rid of a $*% like Heath Shuler? Our choices were either him in his scarlet underwear or the one in the red suit. Or no one. If nothing's done, guess who we (my whole family and I) vote for next time?
