Mike and the Mad Dog endorses Blue America's Jim Himes

Blue America's Donna Edwards just won her primary against Al Wynn and now we're ready to see Jim Himes take it to Chris Shays in CT.

You've got to hand it to Chris (blogger rage) Shays and the Republicans on this one. They take a non-partisan issue, and turn it into a partisan defense of Roger Clemens and inflame one of NY's (and the nation's) biggest sports talk shows "Mike and the Mad Dog." Chris Russo lives in Shays district (voted for him once) and was so incensed by Crazy Shaysie's antics that he's going to help Jim Himes get elected.

Mad Dog: "Here's the thing about Shays. I'm gonna go out of my way in November. We're gonna get him the hell out of Connecticut. We're gonna get Himes in there."

This is great news for Himes because Mike & Mad Dog own drive time radio on the AM dial in the NY/CT area. Growing up in NY, I listened to the launch of WFAN and I try to watch them whenever I take a break from the blogging world during the day. (which isn't that often) If you live in the area and are a sports fan---give their show a call at 718-937-6666.

MyLeftNutmeg:

After hearing Shays refer to McNamee as a "drug dealer" and spewing out what can only be described as complete nonsense, WFAN's sports radio personality (and former Shays supporter) Chris "Mad Dog" Russo saw the light.

Thanks for participating in this campaign. Donna Edwards and this campaign to elect progressives is one of the few things that give me hope lately. I appreciate that and the updates too.

They were rocking the Republicans yesterday-Don't get on their bad side-You're done once you are
Peace, jason

Wow, for someone who doesn't follow sports and had no dog in that hunt, I have never seen the Repukes get so worked up over what is clearly an egotistical liar.

Shays, Lund, and that old fat fuck Foxx were fit to be tied and should have been. When Foxx pulled up a poster of photos of Roger Clemens, she looked to be touching herself down ....there......in the nether regions.

First time I heard Mad Dog was his play by play in the film "Bad Lieutenant" ...Give 'em hell Dog

American men and women are dying and being wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan. The economy is in deep trouble. Our civil liberties are threatened on all sides. And Congress wants to talk about baseball?? No wonder they rank so low in the polls. Their priorities are all screwed up.

The Repugs certainly haven't had Barry Bonds' back like this. Wonder what the difference is?

I know this must come as a shock to you, but Congress can do more than one thing at a time. On the bright side, maybe this is keeping them from screwing something else up.

Well, if Roger Clemens can be used to unseat ReThugs and possibly ReThug-lite Democrats, then maybe Waxman's committe hearing wasn't that far off the mark in strategy to clean House of congress critters who won't listen to their districts that voted them in office.

Fat Albert Wynn is a glaringly good example.

Bonds is probably not a ReThug, that's why the GOP doesn't have his back.

Well that's cool. I still think yesteday's hearing was a show trial. Whatever works.

A couple of years ago Shays took an extremely disrespectful and disgusting tone with a Katrina victim during a hearing about what went wrong with New Orleans. She told him off, but I've had it in for this dipshit ever since.

Shays is a complete tooll and the last House repug in the New England area. Let's sweep him out this year.

Bonds is an a-hole.

To be fair, Clemens is no day at the beach either. So, fair question.

Shays took a beating from these guy. That's gotta hurt when sports fans turn against you.

Not for nothing, but to be technically correct - McNamee was a drug dealer/pusher, etc... by the strict definition - he was selling illegal drugs.

Now does that blunt the rest of Shays' idiocy - not in the slightest, but he did accurately characterize McNamee here.

As to the larger point - the whole show trial/public witch hunt yesterday was five hours of complete and utter nonsense.

Given that Shays is the last House Republican standing in New England and therefore has a target on his back the size of a cannon ball, you'd think he'd soften up and try to be Mr. Moderate to try and survive. Instead, he's become more of a Bush toady and a general A-hole. Someone needs to rethink his survival strategy.

I think Shays was operating under the flawed assumption that he'd be scoring points with Yankees fans by coming to Clemens' defense. While it's true that a lot of people in his district root for the Yanks, there's not a lot of love lost between the fans and Clemens. They see him as hired gun, which, come to think of it, might explain why Sheas like him.

Some background: Russo says he is a registered Republican and almost always votes that way, and Francesa says he's independent but leans Republican, so it was surprising to hear this yesterday. Usually when they talk about politics it's just your basic mainstream media talking points, which are easy to ignore. They are admittedly not that interested in politics.

But the most important thing to know about Chris Russo is that he is a long-time diehard SF Giants fan who has been taken to task for years for his support of Barry Bonds. Clemens getting caught up in this has been music to his ears. An unabashed Yankee hater now can link Bonds and Clemens and shove in down the majority of his listening audience. That's a major part of his rancor towards the Republicans and Shays for their behavior yesterday.

Also note that they did bash Shays pretty hard on his "conscientious objector" status during the Vietnam War. Said they have no respect for warmongering members of Congress who refused to serve during Vietnam. Said he was one of those that think it's okay for our sons and daughters to die in war, but don't make me or mine have to go.

Shays, Barton, Foxx and Issa were a disgrace with their obvious pandering to Clemens.

Someone should check to see if they or their staffers recieved any "gifts" from Clemens when he was lobbying congress last week. An autographed baseball from Clemens has a significant value on the market.

Please pardon me, but I thought this hearing yesterday was the biggest waste of time. While were talking about liars, McNamee parading around with a phoney mail order doctorate seems to be disingenuous. The mainstream media should be chastized for airing the whole thing while ignoring other more important hearings. Rape of female KBR contractors come to mind. The full hearing with "Eric the Blackwater Beard" would have been another good one. Whenever Congress whether Repug or Dem gets caught being petty, they always try to give themselves credibilty with the same slogan, "It's about the CHILDREN!!!" If it was really about the children they'd impeach the Shrub and Deadeye Dick.

GO SPORTS FANS GO !!

maybe some good will come from the bread & circus after all ..

At least they should be able to. Haven't seen it in eight years, though.

i just hope he get the same as bonds, HOF or not, but they will likely give him his namesake clemen-cy

Well hell has frozen over. Mike and the Mad Dog made sense yesterday! This Red Sox fan is stunned!

I don't know anything about the trainer. Sounds shady to me but who else are you going to get to juice you up? I think Clemens doth protest too much.

The most enlightening part of the proceedings for me was when the govt/law guy explained the procedure of contacting the players through the MLBPA. Clemens had plenty of opportunity to clear his name then.

my two cents.

Anybody against Shays is OK with me...

but God - these guys sound dumb.

Great. Wouldn't go against Shays on any issue except Roger Clemens. What's a matter 'mad dog'....Shays wouldn't torture Roger?

I know you guys think that any endorsement of a Dem is a good thing, but this is something I'd avoid...

Fatso & Fruitloops don't even know the minimum requirement about SPORTS, which is what they're paid to know about, and they know a helluva lot less about politics.

These two are tremendously entertaining, but dumber than a Hilton sister.

I'd like to nominate Nancy Pelosi as a "Bush Democrat". I grew up in San Francisco and am a lifelong Bay Area resident and also (shamefully) a lifelong Democrat. I cannot understand why a blow job rates impeachment but this fascist regime gets a pass. WTF?

As a New Yorker, I listen to and enjoy Mike and the Mad Dog. And I'll take this bonus from them. But it does reflect their sports parochialism that this is the issue that gets them interested in politics.

sorry john!!
i love your blog, send you money, but i got 2 beefs with you
1. howie klien and his love affair with himself
2. pro sports

i like to play sports, i used to love baseball
but that was before 1995

fuck pro sports!

(just another opiate of the people, consumerism at it's worst, forcing athletes to jeopardize their health and welfare for performance and dollars, millions of dollars we don't pay teachers or scientists...pimping beer, booty and ballgames to the idiot American masses so they won't read YOUR BLOG, or think, or act!!!!)

fuck sports talk shows!!

(schills for the aforementioned pro sports corporate meidatainment complex...losers who could be real journalists but instead spend a lifetime microanalysing a man hitting a leather covered ball with a stick...could anything be more ridiculous???????????????? )

do you do anything for entertainment?

god, im so sick of the elitests on this site

ever try to hit a professional curve ball or an exploding slider?

baseball is a thinking man's sport

i love russo

dude is also an sf giants fan, which makes him a masochist with good taste

now allow me to expose the hypocrisy of the sports establishment

these guys are outraged today, yet in 98, despite whispers of roid use by more than a few players, these same guys were all cheer-leading the hr chase by mcguire and sosa

and now, instead of attacking the owners and the commissioner of baseball, who not only turned their backs, but may have even assisted players in using, they are going after dumb ballplayers, who were only looking to excel and extend their careers

clemens is not a villain

and as a baseball fan, i for one am grateful to have been able to see this guy pitch for an extra 10 years

and if he doesnt make the hall, then they need to remove gaylord perry, who wrote a book on how he cheated for years

I was amazed to hear a couple of our local sports-talk radio host react pretty much the same way. The are normally big time right wing shills but one even vowed to change his voter registration because of the partisanship displayed by the Republicans at these hearings.
