(Not work safe)  George Carlin drops an f bomb, makes some not-so-family-friendly jokes, and re voting does not represent the opinions of Crooks and Liars, the left-wing blogosphere, its advertisers, affiliates, or corporate overlords.  (heh)

But the man sure is funny.

On topic check out Omnipotent Poobah's "The Seven Dirty Words Live On."    And I just found out George Carlin will have an HBO comedy special on March 1. (h/t Konagod)

If no one voted (literally no one), what would happen?

I think he's onto something.

We now have 15 minutes before the terrists law expires and we will be attacked. Noone knows where (except Bush who is in Africa) any guesses?

I was wondering if anyone has ever read any Kipling. This is the last verse of a poem called the "British Soldier"

When you're wounded and left on Afghanistan's plains,
And the women come out to cut up what remains,
Jest roll to your rifle and blow out your brains
An' go to your Gawd like a soldier.
Go, go, go like a soldier,
Go, go, go like a soldier,
Go, go, go like a soldier,
So-oldier _of_ the Queen!

George Carlin will have an HBO comedy special on March 1.

Looking forward to it...I hope it's a little more positive then his last show...the "Life is worth loosing" show was depressing!

ever wonder why rush limpballs always has a great big fat cigar in his mouth?

We live in a country that was traumatized by the anti war movement of the 1960's. But we figured out what the problem was.

Yep, you guessed it.

Liberal education.

You see, it seemed the college students back in that era were being taught how to think. The problem with this is that when students start thinking all hell breaks loose.

The solution?

Easy.

Now we teach students to make money.

Problem

Solved.

Actually it is the ignorance of the voter. I know Carlin is not ignorant but, he should show it by voting. It's harder for the average voter because of the media. The voter needs to be more involved.

I would have to disagree. If in your heart you can find noone to vote for or even vote against then not voting is the only rational choice. And i gotta tell you if i find a solid reason to not vote for Obama i may sit this one out.

I just want to end by saying i also disagree with anybody who says, "If you don't vote you have no right to complain."

It sounds nice, but the Constitution says otherwise. Freedom of speech is a protected right whether you vote or not.

And for clarification, my views of freedom of speech are more conservative than the current legal definition of not promoting a criminal act. It is there to permit an individual to present a view or belief from their conscience and allow others to judge and comment.

When you shout down someone having a minority position and tell them to go off in solitude you are telling that person to go kill their idea. Killing an idea without any argument or discussion is no different than telling a person to go kill themselves.

Society is made up of individuals. And all those individuals are equal. Individuals may be superior or inferior to others due to circumstances or abilities. But we must all be treat each other as equals. They all have the right to be heard and given opinion.

No person should be told to off themselves from society.

Boy I tell ya, the more one looks at the Iraq situation the more odd that situation gets. On March 2 Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is expected to meet with the Iraqi Government in Baghdad. The odd thing is, Ahmadinejad's will depend in large part on U.S. forces to provide the bulk of his security. The Shias can provide some but not all.

Next, this meeting could not be pulled off without the approval from Washington. I don't care what Washington says publicly about the Iraqi Government's capabilities but they are the ones that ultimately control Iraq. Therefore, it is not surprising to see the former "insurgent" Sunnis starting to pull away from their U.S. allies. We shall see how this turns out but it is strange to watch the Great Satan (U.S.) and the leading member of the Axis of Evil (Iran) working more and more together in public.

that stand-up had an erroneous conclusion. giving up is when you can't complain. Trying to improve life for yourself & those around you is the only path to any kind of peace.

Ummm.........actually, yes freedom of speech would allow you to "yap on like a yahoo" in a tree, on the sidewalk, in a tea kettle, in your front yard....remember one person's "yahoo in a tree" is another person's "freedom of conscience." Thingfish, are you a Zappa fan btw?

wow. I find Carlin sad.

Some of his other material may be funny, but acting like not voting is anything other than irresponsibly deferring your vote to everyone else in your precinct/district/state is ignorant and childish. What a tool.

"The public sucks. F#$& hope! F#@$ hope!"
Just another way to slip in that pro-Hillary message, huh? :-)

BG you are shameless... keep it up.

BTW, Deschutes Brewerey has a new Organic ale out called Green Lakes. It's fantastic.

Put a fork right through my finger the other day. Way funnier than anything Carlin's done in the last 20 years.

As Carlin said, the political system is a smokescreen to make people believe that they actually have a choice, you don't. Hillary and Barack have been hailed as the frontrunners for over a year. Do you know why this is? It's because the REAL people in charge, the ones who own the country (the same ones that Carlin talks about), know that the only danger they face is from the public and if the public is pushed far enough then we will rise up and slay these motherfuckers.

The REAL people in charge have been getting away with soo much shit for the last few decades and Bushco. was the last straw, this is the REAL reason a Republican won't be elected next year. Not because all of their candidates are stiff's, it's because the REAL people in charge know that the public's patience is almost at flash point and they would storm the White House and put McCain's head on a fucking pike is he were to be elected and what these people don't want is outright revolution.

So they back a Woman and an African American man to run on he "opposite" side to make it look like real progress is being made and thus placate those who would burn Washington to the ground. Of course they make sure to back two candidates that will sell their sould to become President, not because they want to do the job and serve the best interests of the American people, but because they want to secure a place in history.

The plan has always to pit Hillary supporters against Barack supporters so they'll all be too busy bitching at each other to sit back and say "why are THESE two people being shoved down our throats as the frontrunners"? That's not to say it isn't time for a Woman or African American President but you have to ask yourself "why these two, are these really the only two most qualified people in the country"?

All of you are being played for suckers and there won't be any change. Why will neither Clinton or Obama say what 70% of the country wants to hear, that is "My first act as President will be to order the arrest of George W Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Condolizza Rice, Albert Gonzalas, Paul Wolfowitz, David Tennent etc, etc... for War Crimes, War Profiteering and Treason among other crimes". I guarantee that the candidate that says that would landslide the Democrat nomination. If either said "I will have ALL of our troops homes within ONE year" that would double their chances.

But neither will happen, you know why? It's because they can't hold anyone in Bushco. responsible because then everyone else would have to be held accountable for their own crimes. Just watch, I would bet my life that neither Clinton or Obama will do anything about anyone in the Bush Administration or the crimes they have commited against this country. They'll just say "let the past be the past" and brush it off will bullshit about "moving forward", well I believe that NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW.

George Carlin is funny.

FBI operations that detected these programs were repeatedly warned off or even sabotaged; soon after the 2000 elections, several major surveillance operations run by DOJ and DoD that monitored al-Qaeda cells inside the U.S. were closed down – Able-Danger (DIA), Monarch Crossing (FBI), Catcher’s Mitt (FBI) -- removing surveillance and operational safeguards over al-Qaeda cells that had been in place. FBI field offices that detected several of the 9/11 hijackers were repeatedly denied HQ cooperation and CIA files sought to obtain FISA warrants. In the final months, the White House refused repeated requests by CIA Director Tenet and top CIA counter-terrorism officials to roll-up these terrorist cells.

The Bush family has destroyed the Republican party.

Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reed are in the same league as Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, power hungry and willing to do or say anything to get elected. This is why Pelosi and Reed will not perform their constitution duties and impeach Bush and Cheney.

It is inarguably batshit insane that Pelosi and Reed and the Democratic MAJORITY have not impeached Bushco. There crimes are soo vast and near cartoonishly evil that it is not possible for them not to act, but they haven't.

Why is that?

Well it could be that Bushco. has dug up soo much dirt on Pelosi and Reed that they are being blackmailed because, let's be clear on this, the illegal wiretapping ISN'T about terrorist's, it's about spying on political opponents and dissenters. This is the EXACT shit that Nixon got busted for. This is the ONLY reason why Pelosi would come out stating that "impeachment is off the table". Why else would she say that? She knew that a vast amount of American citizen's would support Bush and Cheney's impeachment and also knew that most American's that voted in 2006 would expect it. It's because she wanted to to make it clear that she had NO INTENTION to perform her constitutional duty.

Illegal wiretapping of Democratic opponents would also explain why Pelosi, Reed and the Democratic MAJORITY seem powerless against the Republicans who somehow manage to block every piece of legislation that the Dems to put forward. We know there are corrupt Dems so all Bushco. would have to do is blackmail enough Dems to side with the Republican's.

What's interesting about the USA is the way gun nuts go on about "from my cold dead hand" and will defend their right to bear arms to the death but they don't seem to give a flying fuck about the rest of the constitution. If most of them could read they would understand that the 2nd amendment wasn't created so that a bunch of asswipes could overcompensate for their small gentials, it was put in the constitution so that people would have the right to bear arms against their own goverment.

I find it funny that no one has taken a shot at either Cheney or Bush but then sensible people don't shoot elected officials, do they?

Perhaps if the other half of the public would care to get their fingers out of their butts every four years and vote respoinsibly, the odd candidate with a shread of decency or capability will actually get in.

Usefull to reduce these things to mathematical equations to prove or disprove the theorum.

If D+R, then D-R=0

But he is saying D+R=0, which can only be true if they are both 0 OR exact opposites, so D-R=2D, which makes intuitive sense cuz we could accomplish at least twice as much without R

Which can only mean one thing: D-R= 1 million less dead Iraquis, among other things, and not voting is only so much sputum.

That's pretty cool, Mike! It sounds like ol' Rud Kipling "got it." BTW, George Carlin might agree w/ me on this: American politicians don't learn anything from history.

Some people are salivating at the prospect of using 'swift boat' style smear ads against McCain. Probably the same people who were close to a nervous breakdown over what was done to Kerry. The morals and principles people supposedly have (and preach to others about), are just a facade which quickly crumbles once the true agenda is revealed.

My God...George Carlin is exactly right!

Thanks for the linky, bluegal! Can't wait for a dose of Carlin!

He's RIGHT! That's why we are laughing so fucking hard. The PUBLIC Sucks! Our presidents and congresspeople are elected by the Majority...NASCAR watching beer-sucking ignorant whores who will vote for any asshole as long as he gives them a tax cut and are too stupid to understand the concept of National Debt, who think wars are Macho and concern for the environment is faggy...so do we not deserve exactly what we get?

fwffawg says... "What’s interesting about the USA is the way gun nuts go on about “from my cold dead hand” and will defend their right to bear arms to the death but they don’t seem to give a flying fuck about the rest of the constitution."

Space Coyote says: Or how bout the people who say, "What part of illegal don't you understand?!" when it comes to illegal immigration... but wiretaps? ignored subpoenas? torture? What ever happened to "illegal is illegal is illegal"???

VOTING LEGITIMIZES A SYSTEM THAT IS OTHERWISE DEAD.

STOP VOTING. SEE WHAT ANY CORPORATE DICK SUxKING USA GOVERNMENT IS GOING TO DO WITH LESS THAN 20 PERCENT OF THE GENERAL VOTE BEING CAST ON E DAY.

YES, FUxK THEM.

Sorry, while I generally like George Carlin , I didn't laugh once at that clip.
Does he really feel the US would be in the same shape if Gore had been president?

Voting for politicians to 'represent' you is like a slave choosing his Master. Keep voting, sheeple!

Leonel@106: Hey! you want anyone to listen to anything you have to say, learn how to use your caps lock. Yelling at people dose not work on this site.

JT Lancer@108: And your solution to not voting is what?

I don't bother listening to clips of Carlin anymore. Maybe his older stuff.

Even if he does "freshen up" his stuff through the years. He sounds like a fucking grouch. If I want to hear from a grouch I'll read a columnist section in the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

fwffavvg Says your exactly right , the assholes who own this country led the sheep to the slaughterhouse , they cut out the few politicians who were really going to effect any change in this dictatorship , kucinich gravel edwards , and the sheep now follow the judas goats , clinton and obama , i guess pt barnum was right !thiers a sucker born every second ! nether of the government selected politicians will get us out of iraq or afganistan , will take back our civil rights bush stoled from us , words of promiss mean nothing when they come from the corporate elite that keep running this country, after you elect them they never remember what they said! youll get well we do have to leave iraq like i said , BUT! we got to do it slowly , and what they mean is after the oils gone , and sorry but i need them wire taps to protect you but ill get rid of them ten days before my last term in office is over ! and irans still on the table after all wont it help israel survive if we nuke iran to insure israels safety, fuck the women and children thier collateral damage , dont ask me how to fix this , you had your chance before you shit canned kucinich !!!!!!!!!you get what you pay for!!

Carlin is exactly right. Just look at the remaining candidates. A senile ol' bastard that is famous for not being a very good pilot. A religious nutbar praizin' the Lord for the entire US. A flashback to the days of good economy but angry politics where both parties fought her husband tooth and nail over everything. A black dude that gives speeches high on rhetoric.....umm...really.......is this the best? Wow.

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - The chief songwriter and founder of the band Boston has more than a feeling that he's being ripped off by Mike Huckabee. In a letter to the Republican presidential hopeful, Tom Scholz complains that Huckabee is using his 1970s smash hit song "More Than a Feeling" without his permission.
A former member of the band, Barry Goudreau, has appeared with Huckabee at campaign events, and they have played the song with Huckabee's band, Capitol Offense.

Scholz, who said Goudreau left the band more than 25 years ago after a three-year stint, objects to the implication that the band and one of its members has endorsed Huckabee's candidacy.

"Boston has never endorsed a political candidate, and with all due respect, would not start by endorsing a candidate who is the polar opposite of most everything Boston stands for," wrote Scholz, adding that he is supporting Democratic Sen. Barack Obama. "By using my song, and my band's name Boston, you have taken something of mine and used it to promote ideas to which I am opposed.

I have always been a fan of Carlin. But he is dead wrong. Actually the opposite is true. If everyone voted and voted their best interest the usa would be a better place. Since the poor and middle class out-number the rich IF the they voted to save themselves we would not vote for assholes like gwbush. But the GOP turns things around and gets everyone upset about one guy burning a flag, or some gays kissing so they throw out their best interests because of their bigotry and ignorance. Can anyone imagine how much fear would be caused if everyone voted? And they voted to better their own situations? No more wars, taxes fair for all, no suicidal trade agreements, and universal health care--wouldn't that be wonderful?

Where's the truth in this warmed over saying-profanities-passing for humor? Do you really think it matters nada that Bush was the prez-dent and not Gore? Would we really be in Iraq now? There seems to be some consensus that Carlin is funny, when really he's just cynical-nasty and dead-dead-dead wrong about voting.

George Carlin is one of the greatest stand up comedians/social commentators this country ever produced - right up there with Will Rogers and Lenny Bruce. George will always lay the Truth on ya - whether you want to hear it or not. As for his bit about voting, sometimes I feel just the way he does. Consider 2006, when we gave the keys to the House and Senate back to the Democrats. What has changed? Nothing. Bush and Cheney are still free to carry out their reign of Error; We're still in Iraq, and, most importantly, the Senate has recently voted (with the help of so called Democrats, including people like Jim Webb whom we specifically helped get elected to reign in Dear leader) to provide immunity to the telecom industry. So as far as I'm concerned, George Carlin is 100% correct in what he says, and I can't blame him one bit for feeling the way he does.

George Carlin Questions "Received Reality" Of 9/11 Story

gene214 @ 119:

Maybe it would briefly appear to be a better place if people always voted their best short term financial interest, but in the long term you can just as well kiss our overall freedom and prosperity goodbye. Fortunately for all of us, some people, both rich and poor alike, realize there are more important things than lining their own wallets and think/vote accordingly.

#83 fwffavvg :
Finally someone nails it. You're absolutely right about the sham these elections are. It's all theatre, to make the sheeple delude themselves into believing they have a voice., which they categorically do NOT have. You really imagine the administration went to all the trouble to trash the constitution, stack the courts, build concentration camps, acquiring dictatorial power just to hand it over to someone and then get to be impeached? The entire government has been blackmailed. Pelosi made that so obvious. That's why Gore wants no part of it because he knows something we don't know. It's also possible to connect the dots and see why they have been blackmailed. We are truly f*ed. There is nothing we can do about it. And you're right. Nothing will change. Nada.

Talk about non-sequiturs. The public sucks and is responsible for the pandering and mediocre politicians elected, so he trashes the public for continuing to vote. That's why European democracies never elect inspiring and gifted leaders who can guide us to a better future. Carlin has always been anarchic and apolitical, even when he wasn't incoherently stoned at concerts (like the one I saw him at 25 years ago). But lobbyists for special interests and billionnaire-funded ideological think tanks want you to opt out. George Will perpetually quotes his hero, Edmund Burke, on ABC today that "republics" are run by responsible representatives rather than democracies of chaotic, ignorant mobs who rush toward any charismatic Napoleon or Hitler. So Will and Carlin both win if we don't vote and surrender hope. Will gets a government aristocracy and Carlin fills his college tour coffers by thumbing his nose at government and at those naive enough to believe in change. Turn on, tune in, and drop out, George, but leave us out of your death spiral.

mystic @ 124:

The so-called "sheeple" who just chose Dona Edwards over Al Wynn certainly came across as if they have a voice.

Concentration camps? Interestingly, such extreme levels of "caution" have been expressed in the not-too-distant past.

In 1964, nearly 1,200 psychiatrists out of more than 12,000 polled by mail pronounced Barry Goldwater mentally unfit for high office. "If Goldwater wins the presidency," wrote one, "you and I will be among the first into concentration camps." This judgment was passed on a man who later became one of the nation's most fervent defenders of civil liberties and an advocate for including gays in the military.

http://www.csmonitor.com/2008/0128/p09s01-coop.html

As for Al Gore, he may no longer covet the presidency, but he's surely not coming across as a person who's been blackmailed into submission.

George Carlin Questions "Received Reality" Of 9/11 Story

Yeah, and Willie Nelson just poked his head up above the blue cloud long enough to say the same thing, but when you listen to their "reasoning," it's just not logically sound. Connecting circumstantial dots does not a cogent argument make.

When I listen to him I feel the temptation to embrace what he says. But his words are really embracing a form of despair. It's easy to embrace despair, given what has happened to our poor country during the last 8 years. But it's always better to resist despair, no matter what form it takes. We need to understand what has happened to our country and why, and we need to turn it around. If you are audacious enough to embrace hope in 2008, I think Carlin's words will just seem wrong.

My theory is that it's an act. He does not really believe what he says. He views himself as doing the left a service of voicing our despair and frustration, so that the choices are clear: hope or despair. I think he's right, he *is* doing us a service. Good job, George.

xoites defends Constitution @ 10:

Africa

Exactly. The Dumobcrats get exactly what they deserve every election for being SUCKERED by the media towards the GOP's dream opponents.

The public SUCKS.

When has the United States ever elected "inspiring and gifted leaders who can guide us to a better future" since the television age really began? Since Kennedy, it's been a bunch of retards leading this country down a path of mediocrity and incrementalism. Carter tried with energy and LBJ tried with the Great Society, but they were brought down by other a confluence of events that worked against them. Every other President hasn't led us towards anything, not even Clinton. Clinton was a good MANAGER, not a good leader.

THE ONLY WAY TO CHANGE THIS COUNTRY, is for the Democratically-controlled Congress to TAKE ON MEDIA CONSOLIDATION.

If the media is allowed to continue RUNNING THIS COUNTRY by manipulating the public to keep nominating losers and accepting the status quo, then nothing is going to change. The public is consistently MISINFORMED by the media, and people actually think things have any chance of changing?

Whatever. It's never going to happen until Congress puts the media back in its place.

The only time I laughed honestly during that movie "The Aristocrats" was when George did his version of the joke.

He's one of the very best, ever.

In the words of Winston Churchill, "The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter."

Winston Churchill was a British Empire, white man's burden 19th Century holdover. Actually, there are a lot of similarities between McCain and Churchill. Great for wartime and better at bricklaying during normal times.

You're just pouting. You may please yourself by pouting but it's really just masterbation.

Someone asked Duke Ellington once what he thought about the fact that he was not allowed to stay in the hotels his orchestra played in. He responded by saying "I take the energy it takes to pout and write some blues".

We should take the energy it takes to pout and reclaim this country for our kids...

The only thing I don't like (actually, borderline hate) about Carlin (who I do find hilarious otherwise) is how terribly, terribly wrong he is about the necessity of voting. I guess he doesn't understand the long-term, yet very vital dynamics of it. If we don't show the elite that the bewildered herd IS paying attention (by voting), then they will act just like spoiled kids when the parents are away... HORRIBLE. Yes, even worse than they do when the parent ARE home.

We need to keep voting for the lesser evils and over time, there will be less evil and.... who knows? Maybe, one day... we'll break on through to the other side and actually elect a force of good... instead of evil. Shouldn't we at least TRY, god dammit? It'll take many decades, but I would hope there are still some humans out there that still care somewhat about future generations beyond what is in front of our noses. If you don't vote, you're just another lazy, evil cog in human progression, period... I don't care how hip, cool or informed you THINK you are.

Such a shame such an otherwise, great guy can be so vitally fucking wrong about something so important.... and worse, be able to spread his ignorance with humor like a disease. I hope he wakes up and changes his tune... and soon.

How could you have watched the corporate conglomerate-owned media run the best dem candidates out of the campaign and still think that it's worth voting?

Thankyou!!!

Don't vote, it only encourages them.

Carlin is God.

Malachi Constant @ 144:

Vote for what? Just to legitimize Diebold. Oh, excuse me, I mean, "just to legitimize Premier Elections Solutions."

They must have consulted with Frank Luntz on a name change.
