"a liberal, and maybe an ARCH-liberal."

I fail to understand how any intelligent, well informed, US citizen could be proud of his/her country. Certainly, there are some things to be proud of, but the US record on everything from the environment to foreign interventions for the past century leaves much to be desired. And for a black woman to admit that pride in her country was long coming, it's not really that hard to understand.
Why isn't beck on fox? Wasn't he horrible enough for them?

The conservative movement has turned the word liberal into a dirty word. They use it as a pejorative sufficiently enough to make liberals recoil at being called liberals. It's stupid and partly our fault. Being called highly conservative doesn't take the negative connotation by everyone because they don't care and are proud of what they believe in. Obviously, we aren't there yet. So, call me liberal, highly liberal or arch-liberal - whatever. But guess what, most of America agrees with liberal positions more than conservative ones. That's only stupider than Beck's comment because it was even less 'creative.' Beck's comment at least used an ad hominem qualifier: "Ugly women are progressive, therefore progressives are ugly, therefore, don't be a progressive or you'll get ugly if you aren't already."
