Senate Race Outlook: An Analysis of Coattails
BooMan looks at the 23 Senate races in play this November and how well Barack Obama and/or Hillary Clinton have done during the primaries and should help put a Democrat in that seat.

Come-on Democrats, make our progressive dreams come true!
FRISTomania ?
Supporters on other continents - this: half-way between Tokyo, and Hiroshima..
Candidate Wins Support in the East. No, Farther East.
the US bottom line, as seen from Japan: .."over there a new wind is blowing.”
Frock Coats!
One seat away from kicking LIEberman to the curb!
Obama is the subject of many conversations here. he is referred to as the "Fresh Breeze".
Hopefully he'll be able to blow away the Stink of Bush.
Hopefully Democrats will take more seats in both Houses also and the government can get back to doing things the Real American way, instead of this fascist type government that is now running the country.

That would be pleasant wouldn't it?
BooMan's analysis is really informative and interesting. Thanks for the link, N.B.
Pretty interesting analysis. Hillary Clinton will easily cost the democrats at least a few seats - Colorado for sure. More importantly, Obama helps put another dozen in play in places like alaska and idaho that have no chance with Hillary Clinton. Their policy proposals may be very similar but the makeup of congress under each one as President may be very different. If it is a 50/50 senate, Hillary can croon all she wants about how her health care plan is better, it an't gonna happen with that kind of split. This should give all people planning to vote for Hillary some pause.
It's doubtful Hillary or Obama will cost any seats, since most of them are determined by local issues, not national.
ysbaddaden @ 10:
If Obama brings in 5% more voters to the voting booth on election day than Hillary would, those voters would be at least somewhat more likely to select Democrats downstream than republicans. That would be the difference in close elections. Also, in places like Idaho and Nebraska, the democratic senator might want to campaign publically with Obama, whereas Hillary would be avoided like the plague.
What Hillary lacks in coat tails, I'm sure she more than makes up for with panty shield wings.
Nicole,
How about doing a mini-expose on how many seats in either house held by Republicans are going completely unchallenged? It's true in my district - the Dems aren't even bothering to put up a nominee.
How the HELL can someone win if they aren't in the race?
It doesn't matter which coat Hillary wears, she won't be dragging too many votes along for the ride.
And it has nothing to do with the fact that the yellow one makes her look like a pear, or that the purple one makes her look like "Grimace" from the McDonald's gang.
It's because she's the most polarizing, divisive candidate the Democrats have trotted out in the last 50 years.
Did I miss the open Mississippi senate seat? (Lott's), which will be on the ballot in November. As I understand it, the Dems have a potentially strong candidate to run against the guy that was appointed last month. And Mississippi does have a big potential Black turnout and is certainly not a pro-Hilary state, in any respect.

Imagine Al Franken casting the deciding vote in the US Senate on impeaching Bush .

Creepy. Cultish.
I don't see why Democrats cannot just elect someone who can suppress voter turnout.
Don't get me wrong, democracy is still creepy and cultish, but with fewer people voting for a candidate, it would make it all seem less creepy.
Now, monarchy, that's not creepy at all. Despotism is OK, too.
A word of caution: Invoking the comparative performances of Hilary and Obama using caucuses is nowhere near as good a picture as can be seen by formal primaries. The latter are much more indicative of how the general "populace" view the two candidates.
Chico - Can a President be impeached when he's out of office?
Chico @ 17:
I heard his act. He does not have the stones for it.
i have no faith anythings going to get better!
This may be a dumb question, but aren't there 33 seats up for grabs this election? Every two years, one third of the senate is up for election. Once in a while there's 34 seats, but you know what I mean. :)
ysbaddaden @ 12:
Stupid sexist idiocy.
By the way John Amato how come no comment on the Michele Obama statement that she had nothing to be proud of regarding America until now that her husband is in the running....I jmena what about that ivy league educaton that was probalby subsidised by the government because she is black wouldn't she have been right in the middle of the prferentitial treatment for blacks episode of college education? Just wondering. How come not one bit about this story?
Saint Jack @ 14:
Actually it is the Republicans who have made her divisive it is just that people like you buy into the Republican garbage that they fill the air with 24/7 365.
BiffBurns @ 23:
The other Senate seats up for election this year are currently held by Democrats. The ones Booman is discussing are Republican-held seats.

I musta hurt somebody's eety beety wittle feelings.
Don'tcha belong in the thread where some radio DJ claimed Edwards used the word p**sy?
This is actually a MORE important fight than the White House.
No matter WHO wins the white house, we can better control the workings of the government through the legislative branch.
It is the real heart of our nation and we need to PAY CLOSER ATTENTION TO WHO GETS ELECTED IN BOTH THE HOUSE AND SENATE.
OK?
So let's get on it and start by re posting THIS story and many more like it FRONT AND CENTER......
VERY IMPORTANT ISSUE HERE.
The president "proposes"
the LEGISLATURE DISPOSES.
